Ever wonder why the police and the justice system in NZ get labeled as being institutionally racist due to the high proportion of Maori in prison. But aren’t labeled as being institutionally sexist due to the high proportion of male prisoners. Why are there far more men in prison than women? Surely it’s down to policing….

  It’s also down to ethnic character. Some groups are inherently more violent than others. Look at dogs, some breeds likewise–care for a pitbull?

  Where I once worked there was a transient population of Maori shearing gangs.
  
  To put it bluntly the crime rate soared while these guys were in town for the shearing season.
  
  The Police did their thing as it was like shooting fish in a barrel.
  
  Basically this resulted in complaints of racial profiling as it was claimed the outsiders were being targeted.
  
  Don’t do the crime if you don’t want to do time….

    I have read of studies done (UK) on crime in estates etc
    
    It’s something like 80 % of the crime committed by a few families . All well known to the “authorities”.
    
    I’d warrant it’s the same evrywhere.

      Well known in NZ. Schools also know that the trouble makers are from a few families.
      
      One principal I heard say one day that he didn’t know 3 families could cause so much trouble. The three had packed up and gone to live in the country. Peace descended upon the school.
      
      There they started to cause trouble but the Principle called them all in and laid down the rules; such as come to school with lunch so you don’t need to steal someone else’s.
      They had been used to Mum giving them money to spend at the shop but there were no shops for about 10km.
      
      Police know this as well, indeed either Paula Bennett or Anne Tolley spoke about this a lot.

  1) Holding writers of 100-200 years ago to the PC niceties of current-year is stupid.
  2) Aborigines do score low on IQ tests. This is a complex issue. What does IQ measure? What biases does the test have? But merely mentioning this fact does not ipso-facto make you a racist.

    The purpose of IQ testing was predictability for work placement. There are standardised tests with national comparisons. Euro-Kiwi (Pakeha) mean IQ is 100 in line with Europe generally.
    
    Comparatively NZ Maori and Polynesia have a mean IQ’s of 85 with China 105. These are significant differences. The standard deviation for Euro-Kiwi is 15, putting their bottom third at IQ=85 or less. That is the same as the average for the Maori population. Those at IQ=85 are marginal for achieving work attainment skills. So half the Maori population cannot gain or are marginal for work skills. These statistical facts are buried in demographics.
    
    Schooling cannot help–these are innate differences. We need to seek hard for creative solutions to providing work for the lesser abled. Manual, factory work or even stuffing envelopes is not demeaning if it provides gainful employment and substantial independence. That problem too may be visited yet on the higher orders when further automation occurs.

      Would that IQ mean score of 85 for NZ Maori be for individuals who are at least half Maori? Would it include individuals with one grandparent (1/4 Maori) or one great grandparent (1/8th Maori)?
      
      Or would “Maori-ness” be determined by “feelz”?
      
      At what point would an individual (in IQ testing) be classified as Pakeha-European?

    Even so JamesP the Aborigines seem light on an IQ measure they predominantly very knowing from years of adherence to their centauries of culture. They learn new ways too. An Aborigine settlement beside a highway in Darwin included many who bore serious scars. Most gained when they wrapped their heads in a towel before walking in front of a speeding car. They retained their wits along with enjoying the cash benefit they were paid out for being injured. The lower IQ was later evident when asked what they later what they were normally doing these days. “I been Green Can dreamin on my silver pillow”.     May have something to do with pollution levels, but more likely spotty access to healthcare for the pecuniary challenged.

  Hi, here’s a respectful other view. The IPCC said in 2014 that at least 51% of global warming is caused by human induced emissions.
  
  That’s not to say that the factors contributing other ‘up to 49%’ can’t do something different to mean you see a drop in temperature.
  
  So I don’t think your point demonstrates great intellectual integrity to basically say it’s all a joke/ con.
  
  I think the real question is how senstitive the climate *actually* is to CO2 – the models seem to be running too hot, meaning the expected temperature increases are not eventuating (as found in Nature Geoscience last year).

    Always happy to enter into debate with well-reasoned and civilly worded gentle(persons) like yourself.
    
    My main concern is about the “A” in AGW. I absolutely support the hypothesis that the climate is changing – after all the geologic record shows that the climate has always changed. To whit, there will always be warming and cooling going on.
    
    My problem is with the mega-lie that there is an Anthropogenic component to the infinitesimally small temperature fluctuation that has fed the current socialist orgy of taxation in the name of “saving the planet”. For a start, it appears that CO2 is a lag indicator rather than a lead causal agent. Also, our science is so primitive and unrepeatable that the our best brains (personally I suspect they’re actually second-rate careerist brains rather than Einstein calibre types) have had to resort to “consensus” because of their inability to prove the bogus hypothesis.
    
    The geologic record shows that CO2 has been present in the Earth’s atmosphere at nearly 20 times the current level – yet somehow the Chicken Little ‘runaway global warming’ scenario peddled by the left and the MSM never eventuated.
    
    I could go on, but the problem is not with the detail, it is with the vastness of the fraud. Socialists in the past have used the big lie to build the fear they needed to create the space for their unconscionable evils – that evil socialist from the last century Goebbels advised the use of a
    
    “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie.       The edifice is corroding. The MSM are increasingly reporting the failure of the IPCC projections. Where has the warming got too over the last 20+ years?. Has the sun stolen it by taking away its spots? Some scientists are being reported as now expecting a cold several-hundred-years snap coming up; some have detected it has already started.
      
      The sea level hasn’t done the decent propaganda thing either. Turns out that there is no global sea level and the local changes are geologic or population (like sardines on land–Kirbati.)

        Again. I wanted National out. They are now a clear centre-left party, and one that is drifting further left all the time.
        
        The appointment of the infinitely ineffective Soimon has deepened my resolve to continue to vote for anyone other than National until they return to observing their values. I knew Winston was utterly self-serving and was only likely to do what was best for him. I just couldn’t vote for a party that set themselves up as the priest when really they were the pedophile. At least Labour are honest about their politics being left of centre.
        
        I fear for our nation if we go down the path the US has taken over the past 15 years with two centre-left parties being the only electoral options. Therefore the longer term interest for me is in National suffering so much that their hubris is washed away and they return to their political roots.
        
        On current form – I fear that is going to take us down a Germany-like path of utter progressive fucktardery – but I’m remaining ever-optimistic that the current leadership of cucks will go and decent folk will hold the reins one day.

        It was quite happy in the ground until things heated up.

      Hi Different Perspective, I would agree 100%. There is no doubt CO2 and temperature are correlated. The causation is the issue. I would argue that oceans control the heat budget much more than gasses in the atmosphere. Further, the saturation with respect to CO2 and the atmosphere with respect to temperature is hugely debated as is the actual mechanisms of the black body radiation involved. Unfortunately, a highly complex issue has been dumbed down to human released CO2, which supposedly has a simple solution. And no one is taking the solar physicists seriously who are warning of a Maunder Minimum type event in the near future.

      How to solve it?
      Reduce dependence of fossil fuels.
      Q: How will moving money to the 3rd world, solve it?
      A: It won’t, because our society (western) is dependent on it and 3rd world society will just spend money on using more fossil fuels, to be as wealthy as us.
      So the opposite result of what lefties SAY will happen. My opinion, the lefties don’t believe or care whether AGW is solved or not, they want POWER over the 3rd world, so make them dependent on them for it. Beware those in the 3rd world….”Greeks bearing gifts” the price of the gifts is subjugation.

    Funny Harkman back in the day well before global warming arrived the most widely accepted weather theory was based on a ten year cycle. Ten years cooling and the ten years warming sort of like the ribbons on the Morris dance. One way they wind up and the other they unwind. It also was understood if the northern hemisphere had a very cold winter it would also be a cold winter for the southern hemisphere. Likewise summers being hotter north then south with the usual pattern being observed of a colder winter being followed by a hotter summer. As a general run of events since they lacked the benefit of computer modelling which we know is wonderful but totally dependent on the raw date entered. Garbage in will only result in garbage out. This at a time when the radio doctor was telling people white bread is best since being made from grain than had completed the grinding process. While also saying there was more nutrition in the Weetbix box than there was in the contents and it was only the addition of milk that made the difference.

Police were called after All Blacks star Jordie Barrett ended up in a stranger’s house in the early hours yesterday after a night out. The 21-year-old brother of Beauden Barrett was discovered by two women in a Dunedin student flat about 5am.

But Casey told the Herald on Sunday the pair unwittingly entered the wrong house. Casey, 22, said it was a case of “a couple of muppets making a stupid error after a few beers”. The pair had stopped for McDonald’s and were eating in the living room when two women came out of their bedrooms, Casey said.

If there ever was more evidence needed that Trump is out to do horrible things to black folks in the US, the May employment stats show that more blacks than ever before are finding work and freeing themselves from the shackles of welfare dependency that Obama forged for them.

I’ve been watching CNN for mention of this and they seem to have somehow overlooked to report on this racism by Trump – funny that!

      I’m no expert on the American food stamp system, but I believe that mega employers such as Walmart paid their workers so poorly in some areas they qualified for welfare.
      Same sort of thing happens here with Working for Families. Poorly paid workers are subsidized by the taxpayer.

        Everyone in NZ is somewhat subsidised by the taxpayer: ACC, GP visits, medication costs, infrastructure, Working for Families etc. If we all had to pay full costs for everything (e.g. health insurance), many of us would be too poorly paid to cope.
        
        That doesn’t make it less valuable to be working, contributing what we can and building a career.

        MCos, you are correct with your comment about WFF being a subsidy and means to cover up for employers and poor rates of pay. This phenomenon became common in the UK as the GFC bit in 2008/10.
        
        1. Employers cut hours and wage rates;
        2. To keep “full employment” unions even arranged with employers to cut wages to just above the minimum wage, knowing the government would pay Working Tax Credits.
        
        It is a rort, that is not good for an economy in the long term.

      Right Harkman in large part due to the tax reductions which are now starting to show the tax take increasing due to the velocity of money. More jobs being created in vast numbers but most important is the attitude of the workforce who are happy and content with having more disposable income. They might not be getting any big jumps in their wage rate but at the end of the day they have a better wage slip that reminds them at least Donald Trump cares about them. He is doing nothing more or less than he promised and campaigned on to turn America around. Fix the domestic market then the rest of the world can take an example from this rapid improvement that they too could achieve.

Bowing to those more closely in the Beltway in Wellington on Friday it was suggested that all is not well on the 9th Floor and surrounds.
Heather Simpson, as ordained by H Clark is back and appears to believe she is in charge as she always was when she was Cindy and Robbo’s boss. She ran Clark’s office with a rod of iron as she did with Clark in New York, with the result that Clark was not wanted.
The new blood with Cindy do not like being usurped by her way of doing things – when they got on Cindy’s back they thought they were home and hose.
So she has been booted to head the Health Review (which was completed last year under National) to unloose her influence.
It is believed that this may be a good move as Prime Minister elected Peters is certainly in no way a friend of Simpson, and a real shit fight would ensue as he takes no notice of his instructions that presumably Simpson had a lot to deal with (Cindy hasn’t the intelligence to write such a letter).
I am not sure that Peters will take any notice of anybody currently on the 9th floor when he become Prime Minister shortly – that would be contrary to his long political way of life despite what Cindy and her cohorts think.
If what I understand has some truth then the fun has just begun as Minister’s will not know who they report to.

We will again see the Pareto distribution curve as the smaller northern minority get the bulk of the slush fund. How can the the coalition of losers keep tossing the money at NZ Firsts promises when they can’t fund most of what they promised themselves. The money that Winston and Jacinda promised the far north shows that this is all about Winston First and the poor poll results that could be seen as his Party not being able to survive, so the best way to address the problem is to get the bribes out early and spend money that should have gone on other more worthy promises. They say this money will create jobs, get the economy producing in Northland but how will that be achieved when the bro’s don’t want to even understand the word work let alone do it so does this mean more immigration numbers heading to do these jobs and stimulate the the far north economy just so Winston First can win the seat of Northland.

      @Vic Parking watching the annual dope round up by chopper can be fascinating in various parts of the mainland. Pine plantations of even young trees which start out densely planted conceal a lot of dope plants. The funniest event though was watching out the Engineers window at the Deniston mine office. The chopper hovered at the end of a small native bushed island and the guy retrieved several healthy plants on the way back to the dump site on the local rugby grounds.     We can do what we should have done and remove the restrictions on ecstasy, (which never killed anyone), set a reasonable standard for the use and again collect the tax.
    Then the police can get back to doing the hard yards and dealing with the meth.
    Which will probably become a much lesser problem with the above changes.

Classic. Anyone ever seen some of those websites dedicated to public works stuff ups? In particular pics of stuff-ups where road signs are put in the wrong place or most commonly road markers do horrible stuff ups (like swerving to avoid roadkill or driving over it or the really hilarious one where the road marker drove the marking truck home but forgot to turn it off and had street lines up their driveway). Well I was off for a walk Friday evening and my block is a trapezoid with the longer side having a triangular point (local government wants traffic to flow down my street not the street behind). Anyhow, there is no room for parking at this point of my block but the council decided somebody should place yellow ‘no parking’ markings there anyhow. But this is where the stupidity comes in, the marker has gone up to the first driveway on that side of the block and then about two metres past it and then the chap has realised, “Oh heck I’ve put yellow markings over over somebody’s driveway” and then they have tried covering up their ballsup with dark grey paint that only does about 97% and doesn’t cover the edges so there is a yellow edge. The stupidity of these people is staggering. Did they really believe no one would notice? ? I’d love to post a pic here.

Background: This study investigates whether assault frequency increased on days and in cities where candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton held campaign rallies prior to the 2016 US Presidential election.

Methods: We calculated city-level counts of police-reported assaults for 31 rallies for Donald Trump and 38 rallies for Hillary Clinton. Negative binomial models estimated the assault incidence on rally days (day 0) relative to that on eight control days for the same city (days -28, -21, -14, -7, +7, +14, +21, and +28).

Results: Cities experienced an increase in assaults (incidence rate ratio [IRR] = 1.12, 95% CI: 1.03–1.22) on the days of Donald Trump’s rallies, and no change in assaults on the days of Hillary Clinton’s rallies (IRR = 1.00; 95% CI: 0.94–1.06).

Conclusion: Assaults increased on days when cities hosted Donald Trump’s rallies during the 2016 Presidential election campaign.

    But artimisia this is another situation where the Fool Factor (unintended consequences) dominates so much “new” policy. The extra housing supplement that comes in the great Families Package due to kick in on July one actually removes points in that state house scheme. While the extra cash supplement helps in gaining a private rental there are none available in their location or price range or so many other hindrances from the COL that have reduced private rental stock. Thus though still entitled to go on the list for a state house they are further down the list because of how the points are allocated. An early home goal for the COL when giving people more achieves so much less.
    It is very much like MMP since the more electorate seats a party has the less each party vote is worth. The votes value is devalued by the algorithm applied hence a list only party get 100% vote value for all votes the highest electorate seat party gets only 25% vote value. Now how could that ever be considered proportional?

  You don’t have to like Robinson’s politics to be deeply concerned about the methods by which the establishment is working to silence him. Targeting an obnoxious individual with judicial vendetta to keep him quiet is not good for democracy or the rule of law – and the large numbers of relatively middle of the road people that have been seriously disturbed by the judiciaries’ actions in this case is pretty telling and will likely have some electoral consequences.

    Robinson is a in prison for contempt of court, which by pleading guilty he didn’t challenge. He had already received a three months suspended sentence on another occasion so the outcome this time was obvious.
    It’s as plain as night follows day that if he was not incarcerated he would have carried on as before until he was.

  Surely all these well intentioned schemes just inflate the price of housing? Like National’s laughable first home buyer subsidy, effectively adding $50,000 or more to the price of all entry level housing. If you give someone an extra 5% towards their deposit then they can borrow an extra $50,000 at a 10% deposit rate. So they can bid $50,000 more for a house.

  Actually no, it ‘conforms’ to their ideology. Socialists HATE those who are prosperous (except themselves of course), calling such people ‘Rich Pricks’.
  
  Therefore, what better way to undermine such individuals than to place ‘lower class’ state homes in the midst of such areas (although noticeably messers Adern, Twiford et al will NOT have any such homes near them!!)
  
  Historically, there was a very deliberate plan during the 1960’s to do exactly this, under a policy known variously as ‘Salt and pepper’ or ‘Shotgun’ housing, the rationale being that, by placing’lower class / state Type’ homes in perceived ‘Affluent’ areas, the inhabitants of such ‘state’ houses would be ‘improved’ and persuaded to ‘improve’ themselves.
  
  Unfortunately, the reverse hapened and the land and social values of hitherto ‘well-off’ suburbs declined markedly, as ‘the lower orders’ extended their ‘influence’.
  
  Given that human nature doesn’t change, this ‘new’ idea is merely the old scheme remembered. As with its predecessor, the end result will be the same.

The concept and measurement of “fairness” in taxation has been muddled by static views about
the apparent burden in a single year (without even considering the lock-in effect), rather than over
a lifetime. Young people begin their careers with valuable human capital, which depreciates in old
age and must be replaced by financial capital. The immediate burden of a capital gains tax falls
very heavily on the old. The U.S. capital gains tax accounts for a larger share of the tax burden
on elderly taxpayers earning less than $20,000 than it does for younger taxpayers earning more
than $100,000.
Note:
Australia doesn’t have Kiwi saver or National Super, who derive their income from the capital gain of share sale.
Shares are subject to CGT in Australia.

The taxpayer picked up the tab for eight chauffeurs used by ex-US president Barack Obama in his three day golf holiday here.

The total bill for his visit to New Zealand earlier this year was more than $30,0000 .

Documents released from the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) under the Official Information Act, show a break-down of the Government’s spending on the March visit.

welcoming powhiri came at a cost to the DIA of more than $4,500. Transport-related costs, including Crown cars, exceeded $21,500. Domestic travel, recovered salary costs from communications staff and sundry expenses brought the total bill to $31,960.30.

The DIA’s general manager of ministerial and secretariat services, Morag Ingram, said Obama’s brief stint in the country was “a private visit with government support”.

“The visit was accorded Guest of Government status by the prime minister,” Ingram said.

“The Department’s Visits and Ceremonial Office is responsible for supporting Guests of Government. The DIA role was one of logistical support and co-ordination of parts of the visit programme.”

Obama was brought here by the New Zealand United States Council with the financial support of Air New Zealand, Westpac and Mastercard.

He played two rounds of golf at exclusive courses alongside former PM John Key, then spoke at an invite-only dinner at Auckland’s Viaduct Events Centre.

Where did the taxpayer get any return from this vanity project?

Lost in translation

After living in Shanghai for 50 years a Chinese man decides to move to Australia.

He buys a small piece of land near Mt Isa.

A few days after moving in, the friendly Aussie Neighbour decides to go across and welcome the new guy to the Region.

He goes next door, but on his way up the driveway, he sees the Chinese Man running around his front yard chasing about 10 Hens.

In the jungle there lived a gorilla and a rhino. The gorilla and the rhino had been best mates for over 5 years. They went to the watering hole together and stuff.

The next year winter had finished and spring had sprung, and the gorilla was feeling a little randy. After about a month he hadn’t managed to pull and he was feeling more randy. After another month he still hadn’t so he was feeling even more randy.

One day he was walking through the jungle and there ahead of him was the rhino bent over drinking from the lake. This was too much for the gorilla who saw the rhino’s arse right there in front of him swaying gently from side to as he drank. The gorilla couldn’t contain himself any more and ran straight at the rhino and buggered him senseless for a good half-hour……all the time the rhino was screaming, “get off me, I’m going to kill you, you bastard!” but he couldn’t do anything because the gorilla was holding on too tight.

Eventually the gorilla finished and climbed off. “Right, now I’m going to kill you, you bastard!” the rhino shouted and started running after the gorilla. The gorilla was yelling, “We’ve been best mates for 5 years, we shouldn’t let a little thing like this come between us!” but the rhino wouldn’t have any of it and he was slowly catching up.

The gorilla ran into a camp where an explorer was sat in a chair reading the newspaper. He ran off to the north but he couldn’t get past the cliffs, so he ran back to the camp. He ran east but he couldn’t get past the river, so he ran back to the camp. He ran west but he couldn’t get through the undergrowth, so he ran back to the camp. Then he wrung the explorer’s neck, grabbed his clothes and newspaper, threw the explorer over the trees, sat down, and started to read.

The rhino ran into the camp. He ran off to the north, but couldn’t find the gorilla so he ran back into the camp. He ran off to the east, but couldn’t find the gorilla so he ran back into the camp. He ran off to the west, but couldn’t find the gorilla so he ran back into the camp.

“Excuse me,” he said, “but have you seen a gorilla around?”

        Surely all these well intentioned schemes just inflate the price of housing? Like National’s laughable first home buyer subsidy, effectively adding $50,000 or more to the price of all entry level housing. If you give someone an extra 5% towards their deposit then they can borrow an extra $50,000 at a 10% deposit rate. So they can bid $50,000 more for a house.
        
        All these bright, well intentioned bods are all from the same intelligentsia caste that created the house price problem in the first place, not to mention the leaky home fiasco. When will they actually identify the real causes of the house price bubble and stop believing in comfortable platitudes?

“China now has the toughest emissions standards in the world,” said an official of Japan’s Toppan Printing. “We have introduced environmental measures, but the regulations have been tightening faster than expected.”

The company was fined 2.35 million yuan ($368,000) in March 2017 for violating China’s air pollution standards at its Shanghai wrapping film plant, which was ordered to partially suspend operations. It has since spent several million dollars to introduce a new emissions treatment system and other upgrades, resuming full operations in April this year.

The Prime Minister’s “elephant in the room” has just got a bit bigger, with business confidence figures showing firms continue to remain pessimistic about the year ahead.

But ANZ’s chief economists Sharon Zollner says the reasons for the drop are not entirely the fault of the Government.

ANZ’s Business Confidence data shows a net 27% of businesses are pessimistic about the year ahead, down 4 points from April.

Firms’ views of their own activity, which has the stronger correlation with GDP growth, dipped from +18 to +14 points – the lowest reading since November.

Zollner says the survey shows there are a lot of tailwinds and headwinds in the economy right now – “but the headwinds are prevailing a little more.”

She says the construction sector is “no question” the area where businesses are the most pessimistic.

“[We’re hearing] anecdotes about cost overruns and project delays, about very, very thin and accidental negative margins and well-publicised losses.”

She says the retail sector is also downbeat.

Why the COL is so batshit crazy.

TOKYO — Liquefied natural gas plant investment in the U.S. is making a comeback. Resources exploration companies have until recently held off on spending, ever since oil prices collapsed starting in 2014.

But things are looking up. U.S. LNG producer Cheniere Energy has decided to construct a new plant in that country, the first such project in two years. Rising LNG imports to China are providing a tailwind for plant construction companies, which have been under pressure to land new orders.

On May 22, Cheniere announced that, in addition to two LNG plants under construction in Texas, it would expand the project by building a third plant. Planning, procurement and construction will be handled by U.S. engineering company Bechtel. The plant is slated to come online in 2021, with annual production capacity of 4.5 million tons. It is the first new LNG project construction in the U.S. in about two years, since Japan’s IHI issued construction orders for its facility in the state of Georgia in 2016.

All of this is happening against the background of rising exports to China. In February, Cheniere entered into a 25-year, long-term sales contract with China National Petroleum. With the prospect of a new LNG customer prompting fresh capital expenditure, the plan is for an annual 1.2 million tons of LNG to be exported from the newly expanded plant.

The Chinese government has launched a policy to switch from coal to natural gas in electricity production facilities and factories. In 2017, it became the world’s second-biggest importer of LNG, overtaking South Korea. Concerns are rising over a potential undersupply in 2022 as demand surges from emerging economies, triggering a strengthening of LNG plant investment.

A pilot is being praised for setting down a small plane on a Southern California street while avoiding power lines and traffic. … Video filmed from a car on the street shows the plane gliding over moving traffic to touch down in the middle of a wide road, near a set of traffic lights.

Preliminary police reports indicate that the pilot’s name was Dennis Horne. Now that name rings a bell!
