Or of daily front page coverage from the Herald’s much vaunted investigative team?       Are they responsible for completely burying all the cases from 2017 and 2018 which will make their way into courts (finally) this year?
      
      You’re free to manufacture a continuing “freaking outrage and all hell” while others get on with their lives and let the processes work through as they are with thousands of cases. Some cases on the lists which involve what many would see as heinous crimes are lined up with no freaking outrage and all hell.
      
      The outrage in the Labour camp situation would seem to be about politics not the alleged heinous acts.

        Wrong, an admission of guilt would have had the matter long done and dusted by now.
        
        That means the little toe rag is planning a defense which is likely to turn the offending back onto the victims.
        
        Had this matter been approached sympathetically by the labour party, which is what should have happened, these victims would be well on the way to recovery by now but they will have to relive the events again during the trial process. Really lovely victim abuse by the labour party and especially the little deviant and his mother.

      So a 16 yr old drive a stolen car thru red lights at 3 times the speed limit and refuses to stop.
      
      3 kids die in fireball after crashing.
      
      Very sad but what is the choice? Have a “no chase’ policy? No fucken way.
      
      If you flee then you take it upon your own shoulders. There has to be a zero tolerance policy, they will be caught and prosecuted 100% of the time AND the Judges need to get onboard with this and send a message. If you run then you get a proper spanking when you are up before the beak.

        He stole a car then would not stop when indicated to

        He drove hard at road spikes
        and so on and so forth.
        
        He killed himself and 2 x 13 year olds.
        Where is the Liebour Govt on Road deaths and suicides?
        Until they address this it is another – yep another- unfilled ‘promise’ a.k.a. ‘LIE’ from Liebour.
        
        Stopping road pursuits.
        Not an option.
        Drink drive stops etc will mean anyone can drive off and the police cannot pursue.
        Add at least 200 more road deaths p.a. from this.
        
        The blood is on the hands of the people who stop law enforcement.
        Former EPMU National Secretary responsible for Pike River, Andrew Little, wants to have less enforcement and allow criminals to take over the streets.
        We have seen eight years ago how his oversight and lack of enforcement of rules e.g. allowing gas sensors to be covered over in the mine, led to 29 deaths.
        The stopping of law enforcement will lead to more deaths, repeating every month, until crime is treated as crime.
        Andrew Little will be complicit – just like with Pike River – in these deaths and will have more blood on this hands.
        Of course the well-rewarded media will not report as such.
        
        I call Sunday night a suitable outcome under the circumstances given no other parties were killed or injured. Not optimal but acceptable.
        The behaviour at that age indicated a dark path. Now no other party can be injured by them.

        That means that 29% do not reoffend, not a good number but it shows that it is not neccessarily a “permanent” change.
        
        It is more likely that many are past redemption long before they get to prison. Check with your local probabtion service and you may be stunned at what they have to say.

        You give percentages of recidivism at 71%. I did not say that all will be permanently incarcerated but that’s the route to institutionalisation. It may be less than 20% but the numbers are significant. I have known such people commit crimes to get back inside. Further, to them being jailed is like being home with family. Crime they commit has ceased to have significant concern for them. It doesn’t bother sociopaths and if they are brutalised inside they return it.

      My parents raised four sons and a daughter, and whilst we lived at home, had to inform our parents where we would be and who we were with. Nothing overly strict or unusual, just mutually respectful. They could smell bullshit from a mile away, too.

      The loss of one of child is bloody tough so cannot imagine the grief losing two.
      I still blame weak justice for these deaths. If there was a knowledge of severe repercussions for stealing cars and failing to stop for police, I am sure there would be a monumental decrease in these crimes.

  Oh, no need to wait – No Right Turn has already come out and essentially labelled the police as murderers.
  
  This was a no-win situation for police. Some people (including NRT) have said the police should have let the car go and just arrested them later, but I call bollocks on that. For a start it was a stolen car, so police had no easy way to identify the occupants. But far more importantly , the way the car was being driven it represented a serious immediate hazard to members of the public. It needed to be stopped ASAP.

  I had an interesting discussion with a Twitter friend last night who argued that 16 year olds have no idea about consequences, as their brains are not yet fully developed. My response was that if 16 year olds cannot grasp consequences, they shouldn’t be allowed behind the wheel of one of those high-powered killing machines called a car.

  Let’s say three young guys steal a car then see a cop car while driving down Moorhouse Avenue. Reaction on seeing a cop car is to ‘gas it’ to get out of it before the cops can respond. So they go up to 130kph, run read lights and somehow negotiate the dog leg into Blenheim Road and keep going. They then collide with another car at the SH1 junction in Hornby, and the innocent occupants are injured/ killed.
  Meanwhile the cops in their car in Moorhouse Avenue are too scared stiff to even think of chasing the stolen car, so they radio ‘control’ who can do little but alert other cars who are in turn too scared to react in any way. Well, this is what a ‘no chase’ policy requires – just leave the offenders alone until they crash or run out of steam.
  Then the family and friends are understandably furious that their innocent loved ones have killed/ injured by a pack of hoons and demand ‘justice’. This seems to be the scenario ‘Stuff’ is demanding.
  
  Now look at reality. The patrol car signalled to the offenders to stop but when they did not, pulled back and radiod ‘control’ who arrange road spikes to be laid in Blenheim Road. No doubt a patrol would have been assigned to Hornby to direct traffic away from Blenheim Road. So the only people who were at risk from the road spikes were the offenders who perhaps had a 1 in 10 chance of hitting lamp post, tree, etc which was preferable.
  
  Which scenario is preferable?
  
  It is similar to the ethical dilemma cited with respect to self drive cars where if a collision is pending the self drive logic can either take action to save the occupants of its vehicle or can risk its occupants but save the occupants of the other vehicle.

    I think they should revise the policy like this:
    Make attempting to flee a VERY serious offence. Then change the policy to take down any fleeing vehicle as quickly as practical having regard for the safety of the general public. Essentially make fleeing a 100% losing option.
    
    It would be nice to have a no pursuit policy where the car owner was subsequently required to prove on the balance of probability they weren’t driving. But that doesn’t sort the stolen car cases and these seem to be a majority of dangerous chases.
    
    The current policy is having the unintended consequence of encouraging fleeing drivers to drive dangerously.

      The problem here is no level of penalty would be a deterrent for the first time someone tries it. Not even a Singapore style sentence is likely to be a deterrence in such cases. The offender perceives he has a realistic chance of avoiding consequences by driving off at speed and just wants to avoid consequences. The consequences are severe enough, making them more severe is unlikely to influence the offender’s decision making. Even more so if the offender is under the influence of drink or drugs.
      The Police can only respond the best they can to minimise consequences on a case by case basis. I would respect their judgment more than MSM (especially Stuff) armchair critics, or what the rellies of the offenders think should have happened.

  Reminds me of that scene in Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift when the two protagonists (who are in Japan) go speeding past a police car and the American visitor asks his Japanese friend why the police aren’t giving chase. It is explained to him that police only have a certain make of car which would never be able to catch the souped-up car the protagonists are driving, so they don’t even try.

As I was writing this, Helen Clark was denouncing the use of private investigators on Twitter. She failed to mention it was happening on her watch. A case of the magnitude of the White trial – where allegations of sexual and other abuse of children in the care of the state, a case where the Crown was at risk of monumental liability – would have definitely been flagged under the no surprises policy. A story that happened in our town last week our Supermarket was robbed of thousands of dollars worth of smokes and I am not talking retail price, so how can these young people parents not know what they are up to. These same youths are on camera in other robbers so why don’t they dob them in, but this is probably the start next it will be cars and another crash and the same people will be out in force blaming the police if they die.

So what does this mean? It means our sons and grandsons aren’t going to stand a chance.

      The APA conducted a survey in recent years about the effectiveness of their diagnosis/treatment modality prescribed. They recognised 200 valid different treatment methods among all the schools of teaching.
      The results horrified them as it showed that whatever they diagnosed and however they treated it the tested outcomes at the end of a 10 yr period could not be distinguished from each other. In short one therapy was as good as another among their members: pick your label and go for it.

That is, new ‘market stock’ is housing construction of: (a) the type the market wants; (b) where it wants it; and (c) within sound Development Ratios (e.g. 30% land cost and 70% construction cost). By contrast, new ‘bubble stock’ is: (a) where people don’t want it but the planners force it to be (e.g. high rise poky apartments within the urban boundaries or poorly located homes in satellite cities outside of the urban boundaries); (b) of the type real buyers – not speculators – don’t want; and (c) outside sound and normal Development Ratios (e.g. 60% land cost and 40% construction cost).

The project times for high rise ‘bubble stock’ typically takes many years, which impedes the ability of supply to respond adequately to demand. So I follow the link to check my local Auckland beach test results (Lawa) and it says, “Most councils monitor the water quality weekly over the summer months to inform the public of any immediate risk from contact with the water.”..but…”In the Auckland region, water quality is predicted using modelled data. The predicted water quality results are regularly updated to give a ‘real-time’ result. ” So while the Auckland Beach says last updated 15 minutes ago. That is predicted data. Worse it doesn’t show when the last time they took real tests were , any of the methodology, or any of the raw data. Why?! Seems completely unacceptable.       We have suffered for quite a while now with a massive shortage of skilled and semi skilled workers. It has always been the labour led governments that have made indolence an occupation which many of our bottom dwellers elect to pursue.
      
      I was involved in a small way with the labour shortage of the early to mid 70’s when NZ was forced to introduce an immigration scheme to encourage Pacific Islanders to come, reside and bring up their families to provide a work force.
      
      When you have the answer to the “education avoidance scheme” practiced so skilfully by our indigenous people we may well join the rest of the world with decent productivity.

        What about training young people, Tall Man? What sort of a country writes off a huge proportion of its young as useless, lazy people fit only to be perpetual drug addicts?
        
        We all but destroyed our apprenticeship system and on-job training and moved so many occupations’ training into tertiary institutions.
        
        I talked to a young NZ woman at a polytechnic who told me she was completing an IT degree that did not require her to learn how to code. She thinks she will get an IT administrative job.
        
        In contrast, look at the famous skill levels of Germany, which bases its vocational education on apprenticeships for several hundred occupations, including some that have come to require the flaky degrees churned out by our many tertiary institutions – polytechnics, wananga, universities, pseudo-universities and foreign-owned colleges.
        
        It is obvious that much of the pressure to bring in large numbers of immigrants from low-wage countries is to hold down wages.
        
        As for skilled workers, what has the student-visa scheme been but an immense scam? I heard first hand from a teacher in a private college that, when he questioned his ethnic-Indian IT pupils, fewer than 10 per cent of them planned to work in IT in New Zealand. Real estate sales and property development were the main ambition, and most were already working in fast-food joints.
        
        The idea that you can grow an economy by migration is a mirage. In the last reported quarter, GDP per capita fell ever so slightly. That likely means it is on the way down, and that we will be going backwards in wealth.

The electric scooter phenomenon or craze has been surprisingly sudden, but problems are emerging internationally.

The MIT Technology Review reports Lime scooters have stopped operations in Switzerland because of a fault that caused some scooters to brake suddenly.

It also reports the Disability Rights California has filed a suit alleging scooters are violating the Americans with Disabilities Act by blocking access to San Diego’s streets and sidewalks.

This raises the question of ACC contributions in NZ. Cyclists, as road users, escape their share of contributions to ACC in New Zealand. Are scooter users also to freeload on motorists, motorcyclists, and the commercial transport industry?

It is certainly a tragedy that three young boys lost their lives this past weekend in a fiery crash in Christchurch. Their families, if they had what we might consider a family, might grieve.

The youths stole a car, and attempted to outrun the police. The police called off the pursuit within minutes because of the hazardous driving, and laid spikes in an attempt to deflate the tyres of the car, driven by a 16yo driver who was driving at up to 130kmh in a 60k zone.

There has been no consideration by the media of the potential loss of life if the car he was driving had hit another car, with say some toddlers on-board.

And no consideration to the police, fire, ambulance personnel and even the tow-truck driver who responded and will never forget the scene that confronted them – the car horn that perpetually stayed on, the intense heat and flames, and the sickening smell of burning human flesh. Not to mention literally scraping up burnt body remains with a shovel.

Potentially the careers of at least three police officers are ruined. They will be stood down until at least one enquiry is completed. Mentally, they could struggle to return to work – ever.

Statistically speaking, most of us will never have to endure that scenario, unless we are in the aforementioned services, or the military

Where’s the support coming from? Not our journalists, that’s for sure.
