It is the Year of Delivery and June is only days away now. The government will have a long list of the delivered to roll out at every opportunity.

Mostly they will be for funding assigned, not for actual deliverables and outcomes. Just future possibilities that may or may not have targets or measurements. Flagship policies will be footnotes at best. Many will clap and cheer and believe.

      A 30 year plan is fine. Sydney has one. So does Melbourne. But things happen there. Every time I go for a drive in Sydney there is a new road being built.
      
      An announcement yesterday could have had a 30 year end point. But it needed firm funding commitments for the first 10 years with construction start dates.
      
      But more importantly it was missing the essential requirements to fix Wellington congestion. The Terrace tunnel is an insult to the Wellington population. Yet it is not part of the plan. So it fails right there.
      
      Wellington is not going to be fixed by cycleways and trams. The criminal stupidity of the Island Bay cycleway has killed the credibility of Wellington cycleway planners.
      
      The other thing that kills credibility is the behaviour of too many cyclists. I was visiting Wellington last week. Driving down Willis Street at 0530. A cyclist goes through a red light and his bike has no lights. I almost hit him. So we both stop. I get out and tell him that he almost got killed and riding in the dark without lights is idiotic. He told me to mind my own fucking business and took off. So maybe there is a 30 year plan for fixing people like him.
      
      Disclosure. I enjoy cycling for recreation and was in the sport. I also use public transport.

        i doubt in 30 years you will see anything from this plan. more than likely a real government will get in and have to fix up the huge mess left by this minister. hmmm, maybe that is the 30 year plan, fixing up what he didnt do

        Indeed, a plan with a 30 year goal and no short term priorities or deliverables, is not a plan at all. and any plan for Wellington that doesnt finish the Terrace Tunnel is a complete waste of space.
        
        I guess thats what happens when you fill the room with advocates for single interests, and tell everyone that their voice is of equal merit. Once you’ve finished scratching all the itches and oiling all the squeaky wheels, you are out of time and money, and there is still no plan.

      $6.4B? Before the full costs and benefits are known? Gee I seen to remember a time in which that would never happen, in fact if it somehow did the Minister would have been stood down or sacked, in fact the whole Cabinet that signed it off in the first place or the PM of the day would have been held to merciless account by the mainstream media for days if not weeks if not months until politicians heads were rolling.
      
      Gee come to think about it that time was anytime in NZ’s history prior to Sept 2017!
      
      Now it seems the MSM are deliberately turning a blind (or meek) eye to this obscene political incompetence and theatre we have in the form of the COL and their “Celebrity” selected Prime Minister!
      
      (Errr how long before the PRincess and COL’s knee-jerk populist posturing creates unintended consequences in which discussing the political past could be censured?? Heh just kidding!! But then again we’re talking about the COL which is rowing in all directions at times so who knows …..) 😉

  I heard Bagrie on the radio (about the only economist I listen to) go on about what a negative impact on the economy planting trees in perfectly good land for farming.
  
  Tree planting puts no money back into the economy for 25-30 years, whilst dairying or sheep and beef, employ millions of dollars of services over that same life span.

I understand anyone still holding a copy of Tarrant’s manifesto is liable for a $10,000 fine and if they distribute it the penalty can be up to a 14-year prison sentence – retrospective as these laws are, as it apparently dates back to the ‘publishing’ of the document (or video), not the date the censor’s decision was made.

But in respect to that, what is the crime called, and the penalty, for originating such material that can lead to the convictions and penalties mentioned above.

And will such crimes and penalties be added to the charges Tarrant already faces – 51 murders, and 39 attempted murders and…

Although Ardern has supposedly moved to eliminate such Internet use ever occurring again (until the next time), what of the perpetrator whose actions have prompted the distress (“We alone in New Zealand had 8000 people contact 1737 seeking support because they saw that video and they were so disturbed by it” – Ardern), effort and expense (French and other involvement) to date?

    Good point, a conspiracy theorist I once knew must be bonkers to believe alot of the stuff he does (flat earth etc). I would have thought his doctor would have had him seen to but guess not.
    
    So why isn’t Jacinda acknowledging there could be mental health issues at play here for those as you say that are involved and should be seeking help?

  If you read the release it does not specifically say trains. Puhinui is going to the transfer station for fast bus lanes to the airport and Manukau/Botany/Panmure.
  
  “To serve the upgraded station, the existing 380 airporter bus route will be changed and they say priority lanes will be provided along most of the route. ”
  
  The word trains to the airport are not mentioned.

So all that old testament law – stoning disobedient children, hating on homosexuals, and so on, was abolished. See Romans 10:4, Galatians 3:23-25 and Ephesians 2:15. Is was all just a placeholder to keep people ‘safe’ until Christ arrived.

So those who follow Christ and the New Testament really should not cite anything related to Mosaic
Law. The apostles made it clear that Mosaic law no longer applies. It is obsolete. It has fallen off the perch. It is no longer of this world. It is an ex-parrot.

Just saying.

  mjw – the law was for the people of Israel as God’s chosen people who were meant to be a light to the Gentiles (non Jews). Unfortunately they could not keep the law themselves and hardened their hearts to God’s prophets who urged them to repent.
  
  So with the coming of Christ we are now not under law but under grace. Christ’s death on the cross was the once and for all sacrifice for sins. Therefore the old sacrificial system has been overturned.
  
  So we no longer need to bring an animal to be sacrificed for our sins because Christ has paid the price for our sins himself.
  
  Regarding homosexuality the New Testament is still clear that it’s a sin. Whether this gets me fired from my employment or not, Romans 1 is very clear as is Revelation 21- the sexually immoral will be cast in the lake of burning fire.
  
  These words may be unpopular but neither me nor Israel Folau made them up. They are a warning to us all.

  I don’t agree with such folk, but they are no more harmful than the fire and brimstone sects of old who stood on corners with posters reading: “Repent the end is nigh.” Free societies didn’t punish such fanatics.

  Hi Scott, thanks for replying and I do acknowledge that you may be expressing your heartfelt religious beliefs. However, I don’t believe they are justified by the passages you quote.
  
  In Romans 1 Paul makes it pretty clear that God made those people subject to ‘shameful lusts’ and unnatural sexual relations. That is, God did it to them as punishment for rejection. They didn’t choose it. Elsewhere in Romans Paul says don’t question why God made you the way he did (The pot does not ask the potter …) but just get on with stuff. So arguably God made homosexuals the way they are, and they shouldn’t fight it.
  
  Paul he also makes it clear that the rules are for those who are weak in faith, and if you live in righteous faith you are fine, despite infringements of the rules. So again, I can’t get specific condemnation for homosexuals out of that.
  
  In fact, the condemnation is pretty specifically for those who reject God, and are then become fools and worship images of human beings and animals and reptiles. That is the actual sin he is railing against, and the other things are consequences, and are more broad ranging than homosexuality (e.g. they obviously include oral sex too).
  
  So my view is that a reading of all of Romans would say that a righteous homosexual couple who live in faithfulness to God and each other would be just fine. And in fact better than somebody who goes to church on Sunday and worships an image of a human being.
  
  Similarly, Revelations, sexual immorality is not defined. But the passage does specifically include liars and the unbelieving. So why pick on homosexuals? All adulterers and non-faithful are going into the lake of burning sulfur. All liars. But not necessarily homosexuals if they are not sexually immoral.
  
  So my view is that condemnation of homosexuals is not justified by the new testament. If anything, it is the opposite. By picking them out ahead of worshippers of human images, of liars, of unbelievers, it to me shows a latent prejudice that occurs independent of scripture. God made homosexuals the way they are. We should just get on with living our lives the way God made us. Paul says so.

    mjw – thanks for the thoughtful reply. Your reading however of scripture is not supported by scripture. Paul in Romans 1 is talking about the wrath of heaven being released on all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness (Romans 1:18).
    
    Paul then looks for an example of such wickedness. He settles on this – “Romans 1:26 (NIV 1984)
    26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.”
    
    I think that’s pretty clear? Homosexuality is mentioned also in 1 Corinthians 6:9 along the same lines. So the New Testament witness backs up what the Old Testament says.

Judging the boy because his clothes were not pink enough, making an example of him, then isolating him from his school community for not fitting in.

In over five decades of following politics I have watched politicians condemn the Maori Pacific Island and low class White communities to a life of prison poor help and low living standards.

Instead of providing high quality education and health the politicians have thrown money at them in the form of benefits or tax credits for those in work.

Bill English appeared to understand the problem and was developing programmes to drag these people out of a hand out mentality but alas was thrown out of office.

The Left in particular see these people was “their people” voter fodder to be bribed with hollow promises that have never been met.

Sadly nothing will change until the Political Class especially the Left develop the ethics and morals to develop and implement programmes that lift these people up rather than condemning them to what is now third and fourth generation of hopelessness.

To all National MP’s
As a National supporter for the past 47 years, I wish to voice my disgust at your actions in supporting the Government in the passing of the recent bill to make criminals of law abiding gun owners. I attended a recent meeting in Te Awamutu where MP’s Bishop and Kuriger were speaking about this very topic. I have never been in a group of people so hostile to anybody, let alone MPs. I would venture to say that about 300-350 people were there. Most would have been National party supporters. For how long, I can only guess. If they are like me, not for much longer, unless you change the way you are heading.

Your actions were despicable in casting aside the rights of law abiding citizens. All in the name of socialist ideology. I thought that was the purvue of the left. How wrong I am.
This will be posted on my blog site http://www.ysb.co.nz. It is a blog dedicated to upholding free speech and WAS a National Party support blog. Your actions mentioned above have seriously bought this support into question.

  Some good comments Nigel. What amuses me in a very sad and disturbing case of free-speech rights being trampled on is this – “we are committed to diversity and inclusion and there is no place for Israel Folau’s views”.
  
  Comments like that require a translator! The translation is this. Our major sponsor Qantas is very angry, particularly its homosexual CEO, and they have demanded that we get rid of Israel Folau. Therefore we are obediently falling in line and have sacked him.
  
  We are trying to hide our blatant trampling of free-speech under the guise of political correctness. But it is very difficult given the facts. The fact is that we are sacking someone, excluding him from playing rugby, all in the name of diversity and inclusion.
  
  We need to say this very quickly because diversity and inclusion does not obviously include God-fearing Polynesians who take their faith seriously and share their faith on social media. Those people we will exclude on the basis of diversity and inclusion.

  Qantas apparently has no non discrimination policy or if it does that policy is coloured by the inhabitant in the top job who took offense at what was said.
  
  Rather poor effort on their part. The Waratahs are now stuffed. Morale is everything and that will hit rock bottom.
  
  Rugby fans will not bother so to go as they go to watch top players like Folau. No bums on seats , no money.
  Qantas on a better day would have simply supported his right to his voice but said it wasn’t their policy as a business to adopt his values. That would have been the end of story.
  Now the lbgt’s whatever are worse off.

  Rugby Australia is being dictated to as in how it deals with Israel Falau by the CEO of Qantas a very driven poof who is using the threat of withdrawing the airline’s sponsorship as a weapon.
  This has some legs yet and it could well destroy RA already struggling against the explosion of support for Football across the continent and the entrenched strength of Rules in Victoria, NSW, SA and WA and League in NSW and Queensland with a one very successful club in Melbourne.

“I think Alabama has gone too far,” Robertson said Wednesday on “The 700 Club” before the bill was signed into law by Alabama’s Republican Gov. Kay Ivey. “It’s an extreme law.

“They want to challenge Roe v. Wade, but my humble view is that this is not the case that we want to bring to the Supreme Court, because I think this will lose.”

Robertson cited the law’s lack of exemptions for rape or incest and its punishment up to 99 years in prison for performing an abortion in the state.

When i logged back in to ‘GD’ last night to count up the number of upticks my comments had gathered, i was surprised to see just how long some things had been held up by the Mods.
I noticed ‘stephieboy’ had asked me a question, [timed at 1:02 pm] under my earlier ‘Royal Baby Watch’ post, yet it had taken over 5 hours to appear. So i’m sorry for not responding ‘Stephie’, but the reef-fish had well and truly moved on by then.
Anyway, if DPF could do with some extra assistance to keep the moderation more timely, my partner works from home 3 mornings a week, and indicated he would be more than willing to help in that regard. You only have to say the word.

  Second: Yes…funnily enough when the lefties want to bang on about “draconian” sentences they invariably go for US examples…but just across the ditch the Aussies have been way ahead of us for a long time when it comes to long minimum NPP’s for particularly egregious murderers…30 and 40 year NPP’s quite commonly handed down.
  
  Here we are still debating whether Tarrant will be the first to get the LWOP that has been available since 2010….and been sought at least four times to my knowledge, without success.

      Second: You are too kind…But no, I don’t believe Tarrant will escape with an insanity defence…although it would seem to me that it’s about the only defence open to him. There is just too much evidence that he knew exactly what he was doing, and that in the eyes of “the reasonable man” – if not to him – his actions were morally wrong.
      
      The only question will be whether he gets LWOP or not…if he doesn’t, we may as well remove it from the statute books.

        In his April 5 appearance in court via video link, Tarrant faced 50 charges of murder and 39 charges of attempted murder.
        Justice Mander ordered two mental health assessments to determine Tarrant’s fitness to plead but cautioned that the assessments were procedural and not to read to much into the orders.
        Tarrant was remanded in custody without plea till his next appearance on June 14.

While Maori language struggles in New Zealand, the internet is pushing English into new techno-pidgin languages and threatening to replace local languages which have small numbers of native speakers.

At the moment, more Chinese-native speakers than English-native speakers use the internet. Some expect English plus English pidgin languages to overtaken Chinese numbers in the near future.

Teenage and young adult internet users are creating the pidgins by merging their native languages with English. Franglais and Denglisch are examples from French-speaking and German-speaking countries. You can guess where Chinglish and Hinglish are developing.

If Maori (minus the Net-unfriendly macrons) were to surge, perhaps there would be a Minglish, though it would likely be headed off for the title by Malay (20 million speakers), Mongolian (about 7 million speakers in Mongolia and China), or Macedonian ( 1 to 2.5 million speakers).

The second link below is to a Dutch report on the rise of “Dutch English”, a rising local variant of English in a country where the vast majority of people speak English as well as Dutch.

Was whiling away the hours this morning in Whitcoulls when I saw a book called ‘The Bible’.
I’d heard a lot about this book, apparently it has been quite influential over the years.
I decided to have a look.
Shocked and appalled, in particular by a chapter called ‘Galatians’, and another ‘Revelations’, but there may be others.
Some remarks there that appear quite unkind to ‘immoral’ people. This could be hurtful and cause hurt feelings to some.

Who can I complain to, and how do we go about having this evil tome banned ?

Oh, I also saw a book by a Mr Hager that contained some nasty words about other New Zealanders.
Again, what is the process to have this examined and Mr Hager banned from further writings ?

Nicky Hager is invariably polite and measured in his speech and his writings. The nasty words you saw—I’m assuming you actually read a bit of it, unlike most of his detractors—were quotes from various National Party operatives, the nastiest of them being Cameron Slater, Judith Collins and Sir Douglas Graham’s halfwitted son.
