        Agreed, HC, and well written. Duncan Johnstone appears to know too little about cricket – its vicissitudes, its frustrations and its not-infrequent surprise outcomes.
        
        Let’s hope that he’s personally and professionally embarrassed to have written so negatively about NZ’s chances of beating most cricket followers’ ‘favourite’ for the World Cup, India. His feeling of “boredom” on the first day was matched – for most of us – by our patriotic hope of a NZ revival and victory on the follow-on day. Still, all was not lost for Johnstone – he at least got paid by Stuff for his writing-off of his readers’ hopes.

  John Armstrong cites Norway as the same population with charge points for EV’s everywhere, but neglects to mention these were derived with 500 billion euro reserves generated from carbon releasing oil. Ardern is simply the worst, but we are all to blame. New Zealand is profoundly ecounsustainable with oil driven tourism and agricultural production and oil driven exports.

  It is a clown article. If the government was “bold” as advocated by Armstrong, the country would be impoverished and the lights would go out.
  
  New Zealand is not Norway. That’s becauae we don’t have a trillion dollar wealth fund generated by oil exports. Oh the irony.
  
  New Zealand is just about the most difficult country in the world to materially reduce emissions. Every way we could do so is impoverishing. So you get this horrible cognitive dissonance in politicians. For example the most effective way to reduce emissions would be to actively discourage tourists from flying all the way to New Zealand.
  
  Back to electric cars. People will buy them when they offer a superior product at a comparable price to a petrol car. The problem there is that many New Zealanders only have the income to buy a cheap second hand car. The AVERAGE age of New Zealand cars is 14 years and that means that there are many well in excess of 20 years.
  
  I predict that the cognitive dissonance will continue. All is not lost. By 2035 you will see lots of people driving petrol cars manufactured betwen 2020 and 2030. And these cars will be much more fuel efficient than the fleet today.
  
  The second area of hope is methane emissions from cows. GE pastures offer a lot of promise by including an enzyme that cuts out methane. Oh damn no GE allowed in New Zealand.
  
  In summary, far from declaring an emergency we should sit back and relax. If we really want to help reduce global emissions, we could throw a modest amount of money to Mongolia to switch out their coal fired central heating. Cheap and easy emissions reductions.
  
  Maybe the Prime Minister could lobby Australia to switch out its massive coal plants in Queensland, NSW and Victoria to nuclear. That would put a huge dent in Australian emissions.

  Wanker went on his school holiday trip to Samoa, arived home and started complaining about the legal plastic bags from the dutyfree shop at arivals in Ak airport. Hay dickhead the bags were at the airport when you purchased you dutyfree when you left and in Somoa both ways and you only complain when you get back to Ak dutyfree.

  I now have to buy the same old single use plastic bags in bundles of 500 to do the same thing that the countdown/new world bags used to do for free. In addition, I am doing grocery shopping online, because they pack everything in PAPER bags for me, and they are useful for starting the fire.
  
  But I seem to have noticed that the waste stream now seems to be fuller than ever before with bits of plastic and other packaging? Admittedly, I used to just put these straight into the fire and they were gone, but now put them in a wheelie bin which seems to always be overflowing after a couple of days.

  Used one this morning for the redecorating. By covering a paint tray with a plastic bag you dont need to clean it out afterwards. Also, place your brush in a plastic bag and pop it in the fridge. Once again dont need to wash out the brush and can use it again tomorrow.

If anyone has any doubts about the madness that has been Teresa May’s leadership of the Conservative Party look no further than the recommendations endorsed by her former prisons minister Rory Stewart to give prisoners the keys to their cells as a reward for good behaviour. It’s all a bout ‘positive reinforcement’ and making crims feel better about themselves.

No doubt Andy will be picking up on this bright idea and suggesting it as another way to reduce the numbers in our own prisons.

In 1985 BBC witness tells us that the introduction of Tampons into China for the first time revolutionised the lives of women there ( as it did in the West) . Mensuration was up till then a taboo subject forcing women at times to be confined to their homes with only sandpapery toilet paper or old rags available.

Let’s just assume for a moment that the UK would in fact be economically worse off if they actually implement Brexit (which is not certain at all). What this view conveniently fails to take into account are the main reasons for Brexit: reclaiming national sovereignty (lost to Brussels), and arresting the subversion of British culture flowing from the deliberate cultural degradation we see from the mass influx of, particularly, people from demonstrably failed Islamic states.

So what if there is a (hypothetical) temporary negative impact on the economy? This entirely misses the point. Why do the Remoaners always push this line? Because they cannot advance an argument in relation to the factors I mention above.

Look at how the EU behaves: they are desperate to keep the UK in at any cost, because they are well aware that if the UK gets out, they will be fine and probably prosper. Other nations then will also want to get out, and the dominoes will fall. That will be the end of the proto-Globalist model that the EU exemplifies.

They are entering in such a manner and in such numbers because the policy is to let them in to vote for Big Government. Small government is typically a Western idea. If the policy is rescinded, they will stop endangering their children by attempting to get in across the Mediterranean. Lauren Southern, for instance, exposed the scam via covert recordings in her documentary ‘Borderless.’
    
    There is every objective indication that Western nations are in fact experiencing so-called ‘population replacement.’ Western fertility rates are well below the fertility rates of immigrants. Do the maths. It is happening all over the West, and it is the official policy, codified in the UN Migration Pact, which could well become ‘jus cogens’ (i.e. so widely adopted and recognised that it becomes international law). Don’t believe those who claim it will not bind NZ. The existing populace are encouraged to shut up and accept it as inevitable.

Also, applying for New Zealand to take them, would automatically draw attention to them, in the sense you may not be an asylum seeker, until you apply for asylum.

  I’ve said it before, here and elsewhere (and to GG herself, via email) — she is not the first refugee to serve in our parliament. A number of Maori MPS were refugees, and arguably (using the modern definition of a refugee) virtually all the Pakeha MPs were refugees as well.
  
  And one of our early Premiers, Sir Julius Vogel, was a refugee from anti-semetic persecution.

    The thing is that refugees don’t usually play up the refugee card. And they certainly don’t have a Facebook page that trumpets their status as a refugee.
    
    I had a friend who I had known for a couple of years before I found out from her father that the family had fled Poland in 1986 before the fall of communism. He had pissed off the government and his story of the escape was harrowing. My friend simply presents herself as a New Zealander with Polish heritage.

  A number of Labour councillors face opposition.

  Old news, been reviewed at least 3 times to my knowledge. Issues are:
  
  1. Great port, no doubt
  2. no facilities at all, would need to build a base from scratch, including dry dock
  3. Navy staff and families don’t want to go, so will make it as painful and expensive as possible (cf Airforce move to Ohakea).
  4 Devonport is the only facility in NZ with a Resource consent to load explosives, good luck getting one anywhere else, ever under the RMA.
  
  Other than that and a lazy 2-3 billion, its a great idea.

    The dry dock argument doesn’t work – the current one is too small and they need a new one anyway. May as well be at Marsden Point.
    And it could also be used for the inter-island ferries so they wouldn’t have to go to Singapore any more.

One of the girls i work with was originally from Christchurch. She was telling us last night that her parents have seen their Fire Insurance premium triple over the last 4 years.
It’s almost at the stage where its getting unaffordable for a lot of people living there.

This is such a good example of faulty thinking. So a tobacco company is promoting e cigarettes to Maori. Company points out that they do less harm. Minister is outraged. Company is evil. Wants to make money. Must be stopped.

Of course the company wants to make money. But that is not inconsistent with reducing harm for Maori tobacco addicts. Market economies deliver welfare improvements via profit maximisation.

I know in itself this is not a big issue. But the Minister has announced that she wants to “regulate” vaping and e cigarettes to protect people from tobacco companies. Who needs protecting? IIRC the numbers of young people taking up vaping are miniscule.

Interesting to look at politicians expenses and new creative accounting.

Back in first quarter 2017, there were just a handful reporting no expenses.
I guess this can happen, particularly politicians living in Wellington. Sub total was Wellington $417,536 non Wellington $78,775, air $566,563, surface 423,739, sub total $1,476614, clerks office $117,796

Rules changed with new government, have a look at first quarter 2019
There are 26 politicians reporting zero.
How can this be accurate, non Wellington politicians reporting no expenses.
Total comes out around the same but no expenses listed for the many many politicians.

NZ First, Greens, and Labour own all 24 zero spenders.
All national politicians have some expense.

You can call me a cynical old so and so, but I find it hard to believe most of these would have some expenses.
So from the start of this COL, the figures are just total bullshit and irrelevant.
There now a column for VIP Travel, the only reported travel in the period is Simon Bridges $7,711, Anne Tolley $2,584, appears no one else used VIP travel apart from The speaker reporting 2 x$45 and $491 over 9 months.
So Bridges, Tolley and Mallard are the only ones to utilise VIP Travel.
This would have to the best creative accounting known to man.
Does Julie Anne Genter ride her push bike from Auckland and sleep in a cardboard box in Wellington and eat mung beans she has begged for.
Four others greens appear give there service FOC
So 5 out of 8 greens have no expenses.
And hit me with a feather, 5 out of 8 NZ first have zero expenses.
This creative accounting has been going on since just after change of government.
No wonder Simon Bridges looks bad, just in NZ first and Greens their would millions going unreported.
Please tell me why I am wrong, if this is legal reporting, the country is doomed.

Again making an absolute mockery of the sport — whoever thought it would be a good idea to allow males to compete against females in weightlifting?

I get that Hubbard identifies as female … that is just fine, but don’t expect to compete against females without bringing the sport into disrepute!

Hubbard is stealing the medal from genuine female opponents.
