  onzo bikes appear to be only used by the homeless street kids who rip off the locking mechanism.
  
  lime scoots still seem to be popular – the clutter they add to the footpath bugs me – but they do provide some entertainment if you witness a rider coming off.
  
  the flamingo scooters tend to be ignored by everyone – not sure why?

Was it a Captain’s call for the PM to go from fence sitting to supporting the disaffected Maori rent-a-mob at the housing protest? Or was she worried Ms Davidson was getting all the selfies, leaving none for her? It has suddenly gone off the front page of the Herald and Stuff websites, so they must be confused as well.
Whatever the reason, the rule of law is the loser.

    $80 million to buy back the land, another $20 million+ to compensate Fletchers for the work they’ve already done. Then the local iwi will lodge a claim on the land because the Taniwha lives underneath it, and it will go through various Waitangi Tribunals, Environment Courts and consultation processes costing tens of millions, and will then be gifted back to iwi. Some time after that, iwi announce they are going into partnership with a construction company to build houses on it…..

      The main spokesman for the local Iwi have no problems with the development. I listed to Sean Plumkets interview with Peter Turei and it’s very illuminating. These agitators are being organised by the Green Party from what I can gather. Peter as Iwi spokesman, was very complimentary of Fletchers building. Every single of these protestors needs to be billed for any extra costs involved.

        As I have said elsewhere Brian, 78 mana whenua attended a meeting to vote on the Fletcher’s proposal, and of those, 75 voted in support. The mana whenua’s decision should stand, regardless of what Green Party MP’s who are NOT man whenua say and think.

    It will cost $100 million, being $80 million to Fletchers and $20 million for houses. Quarter of the land will go to iwi for housing. The rest to a public park.
    If all the land went to the iwi it would blow all the past and future Treaty settlements to hell. Te Kawerau a Maki is only a few hundred people. Getting $80 million worth of land would be completely disproportionate. It would other settlements like Ngapuhi would be in the billions.
    But one thing is clear. If you kick up enough fuss and are a favoured left cause, the government will crumble.

    To be fair, this for some reason always plays best when there is a Labour government – lefty MPs don’t understand property rights, the rule of law, and why trust in institutions matters.
    
    All this does is put back Maori housing partnerships another 10-15 years.

Another step along the Mudbrick Highway to the New Zealand version of the Venezuelan utopia.
Then she jumps on the RNZAF uber to another Pacific Island holiday , will probably declare a Climate “emergency” when she gets back and then jet off again so Clarke can go fishing at another spot somewhere in the Pacific.
I suspect she`s decided she`s only here for a good time not a long time and will milk the taxpayer for her own personal pleasure while she still can.

How I would like to jet off in a private airline to Tokolau for 6 days. (If they don’t breakdown). It is really because her whatever hasn’t finished filming from their Aitutaki holiday the other week. And Dad’s birthday.
She has to get fit for the next family return to New York in September once again where she can tell the UN world how great I am.
Maybe update her CV for when she is out of a job next year, but have to work on her Nobel Prize great persona.
The Maori at Ihumatao can sort themselves out, Nania is now in charge so she can rest in Tokolau along with the rest of the 1,600 people who live there and distribute some of our koha.
Goff has been told that he does not want bad publicity before his Council re election so close it down quickly.

……the paper calls this rag tag bunch “Dunedin people ” while , unless Insp Plod has been misquoted or taken out of context , following a common law breach , blocking the Queens highway , “were pleased with the protesters’ behaviour.”

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has vowed that no building will take place at Ihumātao while the government and other parties try to broker a solution.

Another remarkable “captain’s call”.

With the organisers of a stand-off at Ihumātao expecting 10,000 to 15,000 people to arrive this weekend to show their support in the battle against a proposed housing development in South Auckland, does anyone think any worker would turn up at the moment to do anything that looks like preparing to build a house?

Ive been pondering the Greens rise in the UMR poll to 9%.

It bears out Churchill who said;

“If your not a socialist at 20 you dont have a heart and if your not a conservative at 40 you dont have a brain.”

The male brain is not fully developed until mid 20s and the female a little sooner.

Alas with the growing numbers of young people with under developed brains the Greens will attract more votes and with the growing numbers of older voters who dont have a brain I fear those of us who are conservatives will be out in the cold in the future.

  Our youngest -now 34 has been a late starter for Uni (after many years in the work force). He says if you don’t do assignments along the line of what the Lecturer wants, you get a fail. I told him just to tow the line and get good results. It’s disgraceful being told how to think by some idiot that’s never had a proper job in his life. If he turns into a leftie he’ll be disinherited.

  I think Seymour’s/ACT’s time has come. I hope he understands this. Until now, ACT have been a party of slightly abstract (although very important) principles, meaning to many voters they were somewhat a novelty act.
  
  With the rise of collectivism and associated restrictions on individual rights and liberties (free expression, property rights etc.) his ‘libertarian’ principles are more relevant and in need of urgent affirmation and protection than ever.

I just happened to listen to Jack Tame’s 9am monologue on NewsTalkZB after catching the news and he was talking about being at his 99 year old great grandmothers birthday years ago and of the things she’d seen. He then opined about what he’d be able to tell his grandkids about – the time before we had cellphones etc. And how future generations might be shocked that we actually ate meat and drank milk.

He moved on to the real reason behind this reminiscence, and that is that the U.S has brought back the death penalty. He asks how he will tell his grandkids about this and how shocked and uncomprehending they will be at such barbarity of the state – how they could allow such a thing when the UN is against it, blah, blah.

I thought to myself – yet, I bet you are all for legalizing abortion, and for the practice itself being a woman’s right. I, myself, wonder how future generations will think of a generation where the state sanctioned the killing of our unborn sons and daughters; the barbaric practice of dismembering them in the womb and removing the parts piece by piece then tossing them in the garbage or worse (as has been done in America) selling the body parts to labs without the knowledge of the mothers.

This evil practice shocks me more than the death penalty for rapists and murderers. At least the babies are totally innocent of any crime, apart from being an inconvenience to the mother.

Anyone with in-depth knowledge of both those situations, knows that Trayvon was not a young boy, but a thug who had been found with items at school indicating he had been breaking and entering. Obama said he could have been his kid…… after Charlottesville, Pres Trump said good people on both sides, but his condemnation of nazis was omitted. I got a very late reply from complaint full of spelling mistakes saying that Jack’s show wasn’t news and he was right in his opinion. That was only half right, his show isn’t news.

I seldom agree with Willie Jackson on anything, but he’s pretty much spot on here. 78 mana whenua turned up to a meeting last year where the Fletcher’s deal was tabled, and 75 of those 78 supported it; a 96.15% majority. Jackson says that despite any injustices, the deal needs to be respected, and he’s dead right.

The people of Ihumātao were evicted during the Land Wars in 1863.
A few years later the land was acquired by the Crown, then granted to the Wallace family, Pakeha settlers who farmed it for the next 150 years.
But five years ago it was named as a Special Housing Area and in 2016 Fletcher Building bought it with plans to build almost 500 homes.
At that point, the protests started, with the group Save Our Unique Landscape, known as SOUL, setting up a camp to protect the land.

Little of which would seem helpful.
What does “evicted” mean in a historic context and was it legitimate (acceptable under the Treaty)
Does “acquired” mean “confiscated” as other sources state?
“Granted” to the Wallace family – so, “given to” or “purchased by”
Why protests after Fletcher bought it, not rather than in 2014 when it was designated “a Special Housing Area”?

But from this useless information, is not an obvious first question: Will Ardern (who will not be involved, but apparently now is) start at the point, roughly 150 years ago, when the Wallace family were “granted” the land, or more recently, when the family sold it?

And if they go back 150-170 years, what else that has since been settled will qualify for re-examination, since Ngai Tahu have established that no settlement is settled until top-ups or changes from subsequent settlements are considered – the open-ended settlement?

… Boston has just been named as the third most expensive city in America for housing costs. There are many reasons for this fact but the biggest issue is lack of housing supply. Recently on WBUR they had a story on the housing crisis in Boston. Real estate experts attribute the historically expensive housing market in part to historically low inventory: In 76 of the last 77 months tracked by the Massachusetts Association of Realtors (MAR), the group reported year-over-year declines in the number of homes for sale. In Massachusetts in July, the number of closed single-family home sales was up 3.3% over the year, according to the MAR. But more telling is the number of houses on the market, which was down more than 15% compared with July 2017, while prices were up 7.2%.

The inventory crunch has led to calls for cities and towns to modernize their zoning bylaws to allow for more housing, but an attempt to facilitate that process failed to make it through the state Legislature’s formal session earlier this summer. Amy Wallick, who’s vice chair of the MAR’s government affairs committee was quoted, “The more restrictive the zoning is, the less inventory we are going to have.”

It’s a supply-and-demand imbalance that analysts blame for soaring prices. Median single-family home prices in June hit a record high of $430,000, only to come down slightly in July.
