A very good strategic ploy by the US Republican Party with great rat cunning. Is Dominic Cummings moonlighting? They have selected a Trump supporting Iraqi refugee woman ,Dalia al Aqidi, to stand against Ilhan Oman for the 5th District House seat in Minnesota. That will force the Democrats to strongly support Oman or cut her loose. Either way is a win for the GoP. The Dems can then all be portrayed as hating America – great inspiration for flyover state voters, or without unity. The Republicans definitely want to take the house back and a win here would be a prize scalp. Even if they don’t win, there could be good swings in other seats because of it.

Chris Hipkins the minister of education is radically revamping education. Religious education becomes downgraded, parents now have to opt in for their children to receive religious education. But the new religion of climate change and socialism will be taught and given a massive boost.

That’s what socialists do. They push utopian dreams of heaven on earth while attacking actual heaven. Socialists don’t like anything not under their control and so always attack religion and eventually the church.

Now why is climate change actually socialism you might ask? Climate change is about the central obsession of the left, equality. Because of climate change the richer first world countries must slow down their economies and become carbon neutral and stifle economic growth. Meanwhile 3rd world countries like India get a free pass and can happily carry on polluting. Also China gets a free pass.

The result is that China and India will go up while America and other western nations go down. Hence equality. The socialist dream is realised. And that’s what will be taught in our schools under labour. The new religion of socialism and global warming.

    The State would not have manipulate historical temperature records or adjust tidal gauges reading. Nor all the misrepresentation that goes on about temperature readings pre WW2 would be necessary.

  For example, religious bodies, or races of people never try and get “their land” because it is sacred. They want it “back” so they can profit off it.

If this had been a dairy farm into a river, they would have been on the news every night, demanding action and law changes. As it is only harbours in their backyard and where only the hoi polloi have to swim (their class of voters go to overseas beaches that are swept clean every night by the servants), there has been silence. Their deplorables don’t matter. Could it be the realisation that ratepayer’s money will have to be diverted from Climate Extinction woke festivals to fix failed infrastructure? Or do they want the dairy farmers of Canterbury’s taxes to pay for it and they are trying to come up with a campaign to sell it?

No mana for Māori
A vote for the Mana Māori deal is a vote for National, says Labour’s Māori Development spokesperson Kelvin Davis.

“They’re welcome to each other. It’s only a matter of time before Māori work out there’s no mana in this deal.

“After nine years of this National Government, propped up by the Māori party, there’s not a lot to brag about. Māori are more likely to be overweight, depressed, homeless, incarcerated and uneducated according to these disturbing statistics produced under National’s watch.

“The Kiwi quarter acre dream is more of a nightmare as the housing crisis hits Māori hard. Māori are five times more likely to be homeless than Pākeha. Māori home ownership is 28 per cent compared with 56.8 per cent for Pākeha.

“The job market isn’t delivering for Māori either.

“The total number of Māori aged 15-24 not in employment, education or training has increased from 23,300 to 27,900. And it gets worse. Since National has been in office, the gap in median weekly earnings between Māori and Pākeha has grown 47 per cent.

“What’s even worse is the state of Māori health. Māori adults are 1.5 times more likely to have anxiety or depressive disorders. Māori adults are also 1.6 times more likely to have missed out on seeing their GP because they couldn’t afford it, in the last 12 months. Māori adults are 1.7 times more likely to be obese.

“These statistics paint a very poor picture of our people. This is what the Māori party has contributed to through its support plan with the National party.
“There’s no mana for Māori who support a waka that’s shackled to the National Party.

“Labour won six of the seven Māori seats at the last election. Māori deserve more support than what the Nats and their hopeless helpers have delivered,” says Kelvin Davis.

  Maori are highly tribal and the Maori Party are too sensible for most of the others. Large promises of handouts by the COL or positive responses to activists may help them keep their Maori power base. It won’t actually give them anything because they have plans to fritter it away.

One could speculate that our PM getting cosy with Facebook and Twitter is more about controlling contrary opinion than hosing any supposed threats.

This was in response to a post by a Wellington woman suggesting that instead of responding to Facebook/Twitter political adverts you don’t agree with, you report them. Could the Left be about to embark on a major censorship programme in election year?

  People reporting Facebook and Twitter ads they simply disagree with will likely get short shrift.
  
  OTOH, all political parties will also have to ensure that they don’t obfuscate, lie by omission, and outright get it completely wrong, as a large amount of people reporting ads will see them getting fact checked.
  
  Do remember, this works just as tough for the left as the right.
  
  Personally, I’d love to see political parties actually put up policies this year for us all to debate on, rather than try and score points against each other in order to win. I’m over this partisan shit.

  How is it that Labour is allowing Mark Zuckerburg through his company Facebook to control our next general election? How is it that the NZ MSM think that this is a good idea. I was under the impression that they thought it was there job to ‘hold politicians to account’. It just shows how little the media in this country is under the control of Labour. I wonder how much of our taxes are going to be paid to Facebook hence Zuckerburg for this service. I also thought we were against foreign companies and countries interfering in our elections. Fresh from not so long ago with her unilateral call to stop all gas and oil exploration in Taranaki . About to put the Private Property Rights of NZs in jeopardy . Yes she was just about to tell the protesters at Ihumatao they would be rewarded and compensated in kind. Even though that announcement and far reaching decision that would affect the Private Property Rights of all NZs.
In stepped our nemeses and her boss Winston Peters who for the time being has put a halt to it .
To think Ardern who only got the PMs job compliments of Peters seems to want to split the legal rights of Non Maori by sowing the seeds of dissension on their legal Private Property Rights with such an attempted decision is an abomination.
Perhaps NZs voters can now see that their goody two shoes PM known as “Commie Chic Comrade” Ardern has a total hidden agenda for the Nation of NZ. Yes most of us believed our Private Property Rights were sacred. Maybe not anymore.

I keep hearing about what central government can do about housing costs, yet in my limited knowledge, it is local government that allocates land and provides infrastructure such as power, roads, sewage, etc. And also sets the urban limit or whatever it is. And approves building permits, inspects builds etc.

They say that journalism is to inform and educate the reader, can I please be informed and educated on who runs what for housing and how long things take and what the process is? I feel this would be incredibly valuable information in this election year.

I’ve certainly missed the bit where she was stabbed in her electorate office like Dail Jones back in the 1980’s.

Yes, the PM, like many politicians before her, probably receives her share of abusive mail and social media, but “violent abuse”? Mr Harman, your hyperbole is unbecoming.

    Not at all Brian, but given that a number of our political leaders have been on the receiving end of ACTUAL acts of violence, and in one case very fortunate to survive being stabbed, to describe abuse which may or may not have been directed at Jacinda Ardern as “violent” is hyperbolic in the extreme.

MMP allows one minor party – even just its leader, and a few caucus members – to have free choice to decide which major party can form a Government.
And this is after the Election result is officially declared.
I believe it to be a form of dictatorship or a form of autocracy, but not democracy.
Try explaining it to someone in another country, and you will realise how fucking stupid it not only sounds, but actually is.

Negotiating policies is also a process that can destroy the integrity of what people voted for.
An “integrity” electoral law that preserves Parliament party numbers is a farce in that it of course only keeps list member numbers intact – it can not reserve electorate seat numbers (where a by-election allows seats to change) and it does absolutely nothing to preserve the integrity of the policies on which people voted.
It is entirely bizarre.

The main fault is parties which refuse to declare coalition partners, and so voters for such parties, like New Zealand First, are giving their vote to the party to just use as they see fit, AFTER they know the Election result. See? – absolutely fucking mad.

It is quite possible last Election that a greater number of New Zealand First voters believed Winston would go with National rather than Labour. However, no one will ever know. There is no evidence.

If this is the year of Truth in politics, Bridges should state he will not work with any other Party that does not declare coalition allegiance BEFORE the Election.

That should leave Winston and Ardern to decide where they stand on this issue in light of Ardern having declared it the year of Truth – and the rest of the world already knowing it is the year of the Rat.

It finally became clear why Shane Jones has been ripping into his coalition partners the Greens from time to time. The Greens wrote him a letter suggesting that he ‘chill out,’ a more polite version of what Jones might say after a wine or 2 … f up.
So what’s clear?
A demonstration of the col working together. I think many of us have at times thought the col was likely to beach itself with the Greens and Labour going one way and NZF another, in fact, Tony was again suggesting that yesterday on another thread. But what is more likely is that it is showing a Government capable of having many views and reaching consensus. Not everyone gets a cream cake but at times everyone will. Importantly there may be a blend of ages, cultures, and ethnicities, even different points of view on firearm law.
Looking at it another way the col, whether it is appreciated or not, brings more views to the table and, therefore, a better chance of consensus and the prospect of fewer people being left out.

  Yes, it’s certainly interesting when it gets out in the public. We’re all expecting it to blow up in their faces, and it doesn’t seem to. We can’t expect coalition partners to always agree on everything – they may as well unite under one party if that’s the case. Our perception of politics as being completely partisan causes this disconnect I believe, when in reality there are often many things we can all agree on, despite often having disparate opinions.

    For policies to be implemented a government of good faith needs a mandate.
    
    Apart from reducing immigration there was no common ground among the three parties in this coalition and even that “promise” only generated 43% support.
    
    The only party that could possibly claim a mandate would be National as 47% of the vote is as close as you can get.
    
    No labour policies gained a wide acceptance as apart from empty “promises” there were actually no policies offered by ardern.
    
    No voter actually took green policies seriously really and I doubt many “what’s in it for wynston” voters actually knew what the fuck he stood for apart from the removal of the maori seats and immigration cut to 10,000. That didn’t play out too well for them did it?

  Sure they are not one party, but they formed CoL and thus offered themselves to us as a viable package that work together – well.
  
  Imagine you hired a building firm made up of a plumber, electrician etc. Sure, it is fine if they have some low level disagreements, but it is not fine if they have a paint fight in your new lounge or sabotage eachothers’ work.
  
  But somehow politicians can behave like sugared up kids in a sandpit and that’s Ok.

  What errant nonsense Brian. On Thursday, the PM was dishing out warm fuzzies, telling anyone who would listen that election year would factual and positive, and within 24 hours her Deputy PM has crapped all over her from a great height with petty, spiteful attacks on National’s leadership.
  
  Ardern has little if any control over Peters, and he will continue to do what he wants, encouraging his mate Shane Jones to do likewise, and to push boundaries beyond their limits. Peters has already poured water on her grand plan for a settlement at Ihumatao, and will continue to undermine Ardern as the year progresses because he won’t get re-elected unless he draws a line between Labour and NZF.
  
  Peters has history in this regard. Even Helen Clark had to stand him aside as a Minister eventually. Unfortunately for all of us, Jacinda Ardern is not a shadow on Helen Clark in terms of her leadership ability. Hang on tight; things are about to get bumpy!

* In late September 1952, only months after a rash of “flying saucer” sightings over Washington, D.C. made headlines around the world, dozens of military officers participating in NATO exercises in the North Atlantic were struck by their own UFO fever.

Exercise Mainbrace was the largest peacetime military exercise since World War II. The war-game-style maneuvers simulated NATO’s response to a mock attack on Europe, presumably by the Soviet Union. The Mainbrace operation involved 200 ships, 1,000 planes and 80,000 soldiers from multiple NATO countries—including large deployments from the United States and the United Kingdom.

In a year dominated by news reports of UFO sightings, Pentagon officials half-joked with Naval Intelligence that they should keep an eye out for aliens during the NATO exercises, said Edward Ruppelt, the U.S. Air Force captain in charge of the top-secret Project Blue Book UFO investigations.

As it turns out, they weren’t off base. “[N]o one really expected the UFOs to show up,” Ruppelt wrote in his 1956 book, The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects. “Nevertheless, once again the UFOs were their old unpredictable selves—they were there.”*

    Probably because unlike you, most of them have a brain and know that landing in a public area with cloaking deactivated is going to scare the crap out of people. Same thing if you land a bunch of helicopter gunships into the campsite of an African tribe who have never seen the outside world.
    It would be completely irresponsible.
    
    Some of them probably operate to the prime directive – don’t interfere in civilisations that have not yet reached warp speed and capable of visiting or inflicting damage on other worlds. Isn’t that the same policies we have in protecting wildlife sanctuaries and primitive races that have never seen the outside world.
    
    Besides, if the ships are galaxy class with 5000 on board, I doubt that they are going to fit into the car park at Countdown. Probably park on the outer ring of the solar system or a lot further, cloaked, and shuttle in, cloaked, to check on progress.
    
    That would be intelligent, would it not? Or would you prefer gate crashing in with hob nail boots?

        Absolutely. That and the hundreds of sightings a year or two later “of space debris”, the size and shape of an empire battle Crusier, with visible lighting, and moving silently across the sky, visible through breaks in the cloud.

  Well, the Greens oppose any sort of military cooperation with our allies, so no surprises there. On the plus side, there is no real prospect of them having any influence on our defence policy.
  On the negative side, the biggest security danger to NZ is the labour party and the national party, whose thirst for Chinese communist funds could eventually get us excluded from our alliances.

Considering these sort of events are recorded in the Bible, this conclusion seems beyond idiotic.
If they produced evidence stating, for example, that Locus plagues have historically had a 7 year cycle but are now on a 2 year cycle or something like that, it might be worth thinking about… but oh no, it’s just any Locus plague now.

O.M.G. – what an abfab weekend this is going to be!
The sea is like glass. Just wandered back up from the beach to prepare lunch.
My partner drove over to the Hot Bread Shop in Manly earlier on. He was saying it appears to have new Vietnamese owners. Looks to me like mock-cream in the donuts now as well. Other than a few locals, the beach here is almost deserted. Although my partner said Manly was heaving – hoons everywhere. Was quite sad to read that Louise Nicholas’ daughter could be facing life in prison for supplying Meth 🙁

Sydney@1219: As it’s a long story, I would suggest tgat you Google ‘Ratana- Wiki’ and read what the resulting article says.

Labour go to Ratana Pa every year to remind that cult’s followers about how good Labour have been to both them as Ratana believers and to Maori generally over the past year, and that as a result they just HAVE to vote for Labour again to get more lolly.

Conversly, ( and by very strong implication), should ‘Ratana’s’ foolishly vote for the Nats, the world will end and the freebies will also end (even when NO freebies have been given out).

It’s a vote-catching exercise pure and simple, and the tragedy is that, being essentially tribal, the group’s adherants will unthinkingly vote as their leaders direct them to. Whether or not financial ‘incentives’ are given to said leaders to ‘persuade’ them to issue such a directive, could, of course, be debated.

The ‘Ratana’ vote is substantial and it is in Labour’s interest to ensure that it continues to come their way. Several years ago however, said vote went instead go to the Maori Party and the Labour Party lost all but one of the ‘Maori’ seats as a result!

The Labour Party has never forgotten, hence the ‘Annual’ visit to Ratana to ‘cosy up’ to the Ratana leadership, and remind them that they (Ratana) ‘owe’ Labour ( although exactly what is ‘owed’ is at times not defined).

This exercise is, of course, an annual one and will continue until Ratana leadership decide otherwise, at which point expect the usual ‘ Moon and stars’ promises from Labour.

For many years, and recognising the political realities (that Ratana and Labour were ‘joined at the hip’), the Nats did not in fact attend these gatherings, deeming them of little use. However John Key (I think) changed that and made a point of attending, if only to be ‘seen’ by the media. The Nats know that due to their different ideologies, they really have little in common with Ratana and so go for the photo ops and to remind those who might be interested, that there is in fact another non-Labour alternative political party available to them.

They say they are going to have completed a 1000+ bed hospital in Wuhan in less than 2 weeks.
The site is jam packed with excavators that look like they are just passing buckets of dirt amongst themselves. Not a dump truck in sight.

While I am at it, this climate change indoctrination from Hipkins and Shaw. I am assuming the teachers presenting this stuff will have university papers in at least 1st Year Geography where Climatology or Meteorology was taken. The problem with the whole understanding the climate issue is that it is insanely complicated and some of the best brains in the world can’t agree on what is actually going on. There seem to be three main groups emerging now, alarmists who maintain that CO2 is a major player in determing atmospheric temperature, luke warmists who maintain there will be minor increases with CO2 changes, and a whole bunch of physicists who maintain that temperature is purly a function of pressure, and is independent of the gasses that make up this pressure. But of course the science is settled. Greta said so.
