Guess what? The weather has been hot and dry, but nothing out of the ordinary. Definitely not unprecedented or even exceptional. The Federation drought was a lot worse.
The BoM create their publicity graphs by using a lot of stations with very short histories, or excluding the early info, because it gives the “wrong” impression. And suckers fall for it because it tells them what they want to hear.
If it isn’t the heat or the rainfall, what makes now different? It is the various governments’ policies, be it at local, state or Federal level. Rules made by people who don’t know history or wanting to appease a woke group. That is where the blame for the devastation from the fires lays. The Green apologists can spin all they like, and continue to trot out their Guardian or SMH opinion pieces, but the facts defeat them. They are at fault and have been caught out. They can’t talk facts so deal in feelings.

    I wish the fuel load question was being properly discussed and really analysed, instead of the MSM just pouncing only on climate change.
    
    Whether or not there is climate change involved, a dangerous fuel load is the only thing that can keep these huge fires burning.
    
    Occasionally, when fuel load does come up in the Australian media, some commentator claims that because of climate change there is too short a window for burn-offs. Then another replies that’s not true, their local greenies just forbade burn-offs.
    
    So where are the facts?
    
    And I’m not arguing pro or anti climate change here, my point is that in drought conditions fuel will burn, so must be reduced.

    Only if it is OK.
    The quality of met data is often appalling. Instances:
    Measured alongside jet exhausts at airports;
    Adjusted data so it accords with leaked emails recommendations as followed in NZ;
    Computed from that of far away sites in the absence of actual measurements at a specific location.
    
    Over 1/3 of the data used by the UN climates models is itself computed as there are no sensors in many places. The grid itself is large too as the computations would otherwise be impossible. Binary doesn’t do precise numbers easily so errors require rounding to be recycled for the next iteration.
    The future of the world hinges on computers and Greta–not.

    No mjw. They do not use “more data” . They don’t compare apples with oranges. It is easy to get hottest on record with 15 years of data. Not so easy with 150 years. And they smear data so results from one station are used to “correct” those nearby. Especially important when you sight new equipment in carparks or next to runways and that adjusts the properly sited info.
    They also don’t use all the data. No rainfall before 1900 and no temperatures before 1910, so they drop about 50 years of data.

    If you take climate data from 1970 until now instead of 1870 you will get entirely different results. Earlier data shows that what is happening now is not at all unusual.

    On a related issue. Water. 80 percent of Sydney water comes from Warragamba Dam. It is an enormous dam but it opened in 1960 when Sydney was a fraction of the size. There have been no dams built since, despite many suitable sites around Sydney. Because a new dam would be opposed by so many vocal groups.
    
    If the drought persists for a further two years, Sydney could come close to running out of water.
    
    For Australia to deal with the threats of drought, climate change etc they need the post war mentality of “Just get on and do it. “ That means two nuclear power plants and new large urban water supply dams for South East Australia. I’m not optimistic. The solution is so compelling so it is bound to never happen.
    
    On a smaller scale we have the same slow moving disaster in New Zealand. Ruinous resource management and planning laws. And billions wasted on useless programs and policies. I have never been so pessimistic about New Zealand’s future. For people with money it will still be OK. But the country will decline relative to the rest of the world, similar to the slide that Argentina commenced after WW2. And just like Argentina it will be totally preventable.

    You were shown the Newspaper articles from the 1800’s and early 1900′ where it was a lot hotter.
    You were also told , and shown again by CJames how the data given today in not corrupted.
    It doesn’t include earlier HOT temps.
    You also think that because it is not the fires start themselves.
    The real problem is you are too stupid to get it.
    Meanwhile 200 people have been arrested for arson.

  CJames – completely agree that is not due to climate change. Take a moment and Google about the Australian heatwave and resultant fires in 1896. Apparently the heat was so severe that the temperature got to almost 50°C. It was so hot that 400 people died. It was so hot that birds fell from the sky and people dropped dead in the street. Emergency trains were laid on so that people could escape to the cooler mountains.
  
  So Australia has had heat waves before. The problem is not climate change. It is the poor management of the forests which is to blame due to the extreme environmentalists.

    There are no articles in nz papers on bush fire management and it’s science and history. None -not a single article, on bush fire management and the role that this played in the fire. Despite this being the biggest issue raised by the volunteer fire association in Australia, and the history of cool burning and bush management by Aboriginal people. This is what the information and discussion should be about. But the journalists just want to run everything through their single issue climate change advocacy framework. Or criticisms of Scott Morrison because he is not hugging firefighters.

  850 Severe drought, with big losses of livestock across inland New South Wales and around the western rivers region.
  1864–66 (and 1868). The little data available indicates that this drought period was rather severe in Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia. This drought also helped fires in the Australia outback at the time.
  1877 All states affected by severe drought, with disastrous losses in Queensland. In Western Australia many native trees died, swamps dried up and crops failed.
  1880 to 1886 Drought in Victoria (northern areas and Gippsland); New South Wales (mainly northern wheat belt, Northern Tablelands and south coast); Queensland (1881–86, in south-east with breaks – otherwise mainly in coastal areas, the central highlands and central interior in 1883–86); and South Australia (1884–86, mainly in agricultural areas).
  1888 Extremely dry in Victoria (northern areas and Gippsland); Tasmania (1887–89 in the south); New South Wales had the driest year since records began; Queensland (1888–89) had a very severe drought, with much native scrub dying and native animals perishing; South Australia had one of its most severe droughts; and Western Australia (central agricultural areas) lost many sheep.[8]
  1897 Drought in much of Queensland, compared to 1883–84 droughts.[9]
  Note that many of these droughts were in areas now burning.
  Add the historical rainfall data into the analysis and a totally different picture emerges.

While senior congressional Democrats agree Soleimani was an “enemy” of the United States, leaders condemned the Trump administration for not notifying Congress ahead of the airstrike that killed the Iran Quds Force commander. On the Senate floor, Chuck Schumer said “the need for advance consultation and transparency with Congress was put in the Constitution for a reason.”

There is a very valid reason the Democretins are kept out of the loop, they just cannot be trusted, simple as that.
And now they are pissed off because Trump hasn`t killed as many foreign citizens as Bomber Obama and his Nobel or dragged the world into WW3.

      It can’t be the result of research. There are many grey areas that real scientists would acknowledge. It is it not even certain if CO2 is actually a green house gas. It’s use as a plant food is proven by horticulturalists but Arrhenius’s work published in 1896 is still in doubt.
      
      The drive for one world government, the money and political power is what is driving it all. Island states are hoping for massive transfers of wealth to compensate them for their fraud that their islands are sinking. Some of those have been outgrown and the human weight has had an effect! Look North of us to Kiripati.
      
      Al Gore runs a carbon market–he makes money off advocating climate change.
      Honesty and integrity is scarce. No one disagrees that it is undesirable to soil ones nest but planetary housekeeping issues have nothing to do with climate although often conflated.

        CO2 being heavier than air, if undisturbed, tends to drift closer to the ground where plants can gobble it up.
        
        CO2 /oxygen density ratio is higher at the bottom of a large undisturbed container than at the top.
        For example, in large grain silos where CO2 can chemically build up, the CO2 sinks more to the bottom. A worker who walks directly into the bottom of the silo may find that he has too much CO2/not enough oxygen and can’t breath properly.

        Jackrabbit, in general it is reasonable to conclude that the atmosphere is relatively well mixed as it is a turbulent environment. There is some sorting of CO2, but not a lot. Closed environments like a silo are significantly different and stratification will often occur if left undisturbed.

        Also note that CO2 does have active absorption bands in the infrared. These are largely saturated but there is additional absorption that can occur at the edges and a higher concentration adds depth to the absorption pathway.
        
        The classic effect of higher CO2 should be a decrease in the diurnal temperature variation, that is the earth will cool marginally less at night as more of the IR radiation energy is transferred to various molecules in the air, so less IR is lost to space.
        
        Temperature readings are not independent, they have a significant history component, that is each day is not independent of the temperature history, so a hot day has some influence on the next days temperature, a kind of “temperature memory” if you will. This BTW does complicate statistical treatment of temperature records as classic statistical measures give incorrect results when applied to such data – to be mildly technical the data is auto-correlated with a non zero p value.
        
        So warmer nights do lead to warmer days to some extent, but the primary effect of CO2 enrichment is not hotter daytime temperatures, that will potentially occur but more or less as a side effect because the day starts warmer than it otherwise might.

      If he stood close to a campfire and got burned, he would say that distance to the campfire has no effect on temperature.
      
      He would instead launch a campaign to blame his mates for eating too many takeaways resulting in farting too much, thereby raising the campfire temperature due to the increased methane and CO2.
      
      There is no logic in his brain. He has no awareness of science, and no ability to form rational thought.

        A 40 second burst from a Dew weapon, or weather modification machine, the latter of which have been around nearly a century, wlll have more effect on the planet than 87 billion cows farting in unison for the next 72 years.
        
        The earth tilting on its axis, as it does several times a year, altering the relative distance and exposure to the sun and thereby amount of heating heating. You might be familiar with this, it is called spring, summer, autumn and winter.
        
        Note that summer is more hotter than winter, and in some parts the world make summer can be tens of degrees hotter than winter. All because of inclination. Life would radically change if the seasons were permanently stuck in summer or winter.
        
        Now add in distance to the sun, which varies substantially. It may not be substantial to you, but it is substantial to planet earth. The amount of solar radiation varies substantially with distance.

You need to look at the geological record to understand climate variability on Earth, not some tarted up graphs showing selected records for the last 50 or 100 years.     Well, it worked in a lab with test tubes and did we know that shell fish didn’t have 100% spat survival rate and its all owing to CO2 making the sea acidic.
    Their breeding system allowed many spat to survive in tanks in controlled conditions but when they let them out into the real world reality struck 🙂

  Of course the research is only focused, on one thing, carbon footprint, however I have no doubt the research is flawed.
  
  If the research was extended to recuperation rates and survival rates, the above research would show a lowered survival rate.
  
  As it stands, the annual death toll from secondary infection, and medical misadventure while in hospital is over twice that of the road toll. Cutting out meat will only see that death toll rise.
  
  The danger of taking stats in isolation:
  They could put all hospital patients on a diet of water only, which would drop the carbon footprint to zero. Of course the survival rate would also drop to zero.

  Such nonsense in NZ! Our meat production doesn’t have the same ‘carbon footprint’ as factory farming, and our sheep and beef-filled hillsides can’t really be used for much else anyway.
  
  Plus the meat is local, while beans and grains (combination needed for protein) may well need to be imported.
  
  And more importantly for hospitals: people need protein for recovering and rebuilding.

  As far as I can ascertain Keith Kinnunen was not convicted of a felony, but a number of misdemeanors.
  He was therefore entitled to wander into the church with a gun. He didn’t burst in as some news reports say, but sat down and later on stood up and killed two people before a volunteer security guard killed him.
  The security guard let him into the church even though he could see he was wearing a disguise. Otherwise he would have recognized him and knew he was mentally unstable.

Jacinderella’s PR Army must be prioritising work for the international media, which might prove to have been a wise choice if she she loses this year’s election.

In the Daily Mail, usually on the centre-Right, the heading reads: “What REAL leadership looks like: Jacinda Ardern sends Australia another team of heroic firefighters to tackle killer bushfires”.

At the Beehive web site, the tone is more subdue release announcing another 22 firefighters to help fight the Australian fires. It’s made under the name of Ardern and NZ First’s Tracey Martin.

The Ardern boost likely comes from a Daily Mail correspondent who is an Aussie journo keen to roast Scott Morrison.

        Perhaps you could explain why the business owners in Auckland have been denied financial assistance while the road/rail construction has virtually crippled their business. Obviously White island is a terrible tragedy but the offer of assistance does seem premature especially if the businesses carried some level of natural disaster insurance.

I’ve been thinking about how the gummint could support Stuffed’s climate change crusade, and have come out with the following.

Newspapers use paper, which is made from trees, which help fight climate change. So, it makes sense that if the gummint can reduce the number of papers being printed, it will help the climate. So, how about a heavy tax on each papers’ daily distribution of physical newspapers – a good 100% on the sale price would work. This could be balanced by a mandatory reduction in paper production of 5% per year, to ensure that those who don’t have the ability or inclination to access the online versions can still buy a paper.

The tax could be used to support better broadband services. The media companies could make up the shortfall by increasing advertising costs and/or improving their standards from the rubbish they produce at the moment.

And in the words of the economic masterminds who currently run the country, if they can’t make a profit, they shouldn’t be in business.

Stuffed could hardly complain.

    I wood not know (see what I did there?), but if that is correct, reducing the number of papers being printed will have an even bigger impact. Think of the oil not being used to ship the wood!

    NZ wood pulp is primarily derived from Pinus species and is notably coarse. Useful primarily for cardboards and packaging, not suitable for papers used for printing.
    
    I would therefore think it pretty likely thatNZ imports the newsprint used for papers.

Did I believe, “150 million are already in the ground.”

Of course MPI / Forestry website invites you to “Check back regularly to see how we’re tracking to the goal of planting one billion trees by 2028.” [1]
And they said trees planted since the One Billion Tree programme was announced is –
149,160,000

… which is relatively close to Ardern’s figure, give or take a few thousand.

But that was the figure when she addressed the UN
and still is the figure this morning.

Are they taking a break too? Since September 24.
Because I don’t think Forestry has stopped at all in felling trees.

  Cindy’s promise of one billion trees, INCLUDED the 500M trees (50 million annually), planted by industry as part of reforestation after felling for use. Which is a net of zero.
  
  Essentially, she is rubber stamping and taking credit for something that was already happening, and without mentioning that just as many trees were being cut down as planted.

He went for a drive before to see it was any better over the other side at Little Manly – but as he just said, “Even there it’s blowing like a long legged blonde with overbite”

Mr partner just walked in after having a few with the boyz at the surf club.
He doesn’t get to hear talkback during the day, but was just listening to 1ZB in his car.

However even Blind Freddy can see that there is also a far more cynical campaign being waged against the PM that originated not from the bush but from the leafy and inner-city suburbs of Sydney and Melbourne – hashtag activists who are more angry at Morrison for winning the election than for anything he has or hasn’t done about the fires.

As has been noted, many of the same commentariat who condemned Morrison for not doing enough to fight fires condemned Tony Abbott for actually physically fighting fires.

It also insults the intelligence of every Australian to suggest that the same people who circulate pictures of the PM’s face etched on a ballsack are looking to him for guidance and reassurance in these troubled times.

If anything, they only want Morrison around so they can spit in his face. Hell, even all of Sydney Harbour couldn’t keep him safe from Tex Perkins.*
