I remember when

Fonterra will sell its two joint venture farms in China and expect to do so within this financial year.
It is continuing to reduce its Beingmate holding which stands at 2.8%. CR Miles Hurrell says they will continue to sell down their remaining shareholding.
‘We will grow the value of our Greater China business, by bringing milk to Chinese customers in innovative ways and partnering with local Chinese companies.’
Fonterra’s food service sales in China, post covid-19 shutdowns last year, have bounced back with a phenomenal 64% increase in earnings.
China foodservice business was $203m normalised earnings before interest and Tax (Ebit).

  Do you know the full capital costs of Fonterra’s China escapade? It would be interesting to evaluate Fonterra’s expansion of the last 20 odd years and judge whether it paid off. I expect dairyfarmers have lost money trying to muscle their way into world markets.

  Went to a farmers meeting in Opunake with Directors,a Local farmer got up and asked why we were giving our knowledge and support to China who will eventually do as they see fit when they have bastardised they system to their benefit/
  Basically made to look like a fool by Directors present and CEO.
  Never forgot that.

Michael Basset has been recently deplatformed / cancelled for raising similar concerns.

    If this “big idea” from the curriculum isn’t Critical Race Theory then Maori arrived in NZ on cruise liners:

    Kowtow seems to hope National will stand up for non-Maori New Zealanders. I wouldn’t count on that.
    
    For example the new MP for Invercargill, the white Penny Simmonds, climaxed an until-then passable maiden speech by singing a waiata written for her by Ngai Tahu.
    
    National doesn’t see the Leftist currents like Critical Race Theory in Maori identity politics.

        I have no problem in people speaking only in Te Reo (I won’t understand them) or people speaking only in English.
        It’s when people “use Te Reo” or rather, “drop in a few Te Reo terms,” to virtue signal when they speak English (which I am sure has to be a crime of cultural appropriation at the very least).

      Oxford University, a learning centre in England for 1000 years, is considering changing music courses to get away from white composers of the “slave period”. These include Beethoven and Mozart.
      
      Academics are deconstructing the university’s music offering after facing pressure to “decolonise” the curriculum following the Black Lives Matter protests.
      
      The Telegraph newspaper says it has seen proposals for changes to undergraduate courses, in which some staff question the current curriculum’s “complicity in white supremacy”.
      
      The Telegraph adds that academics have also proposed that musical skills such as learning to play the keyboard or conducting orchestras should no longer be compulsory because the repertoire “structurally centres white European music” which causes “students of colour great distress”.

  It’s bigger than just the history curriculum. Add in the Maori wards amendment bill and you will see a pattern.
  Google ‘He Puapua’ and you will find a government strategy to achieve a Maori takeover of much of the governance of New Zealand by 2040. This will include co-governance at all levels, takeover of private property, abolition of prisons, massive wealth transfer to name a few

    Yes, it’s more than just history. Check out the proposed new science standards that munge subjects together and require kids to “engage” with traditional maori knowledge as if it were science.

      It’s as though in the rising age of science in Europe after the Renaissance, governments ordered teaching of the Druids’ knowledge. “They set up Stonehenge on rudimentary star knowledge so they were as smart as Newton and Leibnitz.”
      
      There is no such thing as Maori science, and children need to know that teachers lie to them if they say Maori knowledge was/is science.

      If that is the biology curriculum it possibly explains why so many young Maori women become pregnant prior to age 17. How can one gain a very basic knowledge of biology with all that gobbledygook.

  They, Maori, cannot claim the protection of the treaty and keep on expressing regrets. Maori “history” for them largely ceased at 1840. They have been subjects of the English Crown since then. The land wars arose out of not following the treaty and the consequences are proper.

not only did Treasury and IRD warn the Government that the tax deduction changes would lead to an increase in rents. Treasury and IRD concluded the changes to the bright line test were “worse than doing nothing”.
That pretty much sums up this government. Worse than nothing.

  This govt is so incompetent that it needed a distraction. While every private property landlord can manage to run it successfully, even with hundreds of millions behind them the govt couldn’t do it. Kiwibuild was such a complete failure, they needed to punish those that showed them up.
  
  Replace ‘Landlords’ with ‘Kulaks’ and it’s straight out of Lenin’s playbook to divide people with hate. Please note the purge of Kulaks resulted 9 million deaths, at least will only result in tens of thousands homeless.

  NZ Vaccination Rollout Plan!
  Now – Group 1 Border and MIQ Workers
  From March – Group 2 Frontline workers and people in high-risk areas
  From May – Group 3 65+ and people with underlying health conditions or disabilities
  From July – Group 4 Everyone else aged 16 and over
  
  First time I’ve seen any detail of a rollout plan. Maybe because I refuse to read or view any garbage NZ Media! Thank goodness for Aljazeera, Netflix and Neon!

I also unfortunately have a herald subscription, but I have not seen anything on a rollout schedule. I did see the groupings defined but no schedule.     Hmm, this was pretty easy to find out a couple of weeks ago. All you had to do was a Goggle search.
    
    I am in Group 3. I would be surprised if I am able to be vaccinated in May. The plan just doesn’t seem to be in place to do that. Of course the catch is that it is “from May”, though the implication of the plan is that Group 3 will be vaccinated by July when Group 4 starts.

This Labour Government have had one fuckup after another and still haven’t been able to fix Health, Immigration, Housing or Social welfare with two Ministers already losing their jobs in the first term of Government. But the thing that’s gets most is this Government came to power on the back of preaching nine years of neglect from the previous Government and all they have done is at the present moment left these same Ministry ‘s like a bomb zone with no hope of recovery.
But the problem is we a nation of people that prefer the Prime Ministers kind and caring approach and visiting their children at school or promising them with lockdowns that is the only way to beat Covid- 19. Really I can’t see how we can survive this Government and their communist policies as they are causing so much damage to the economy that really we can’t afford.

      Actually there probably has been, and the great majority of it deliberately encouraged by the left. Under “Critical Race Theory”, those defined as “Black (or insert currently fashionable term for the melanin unchallenged) simply cannot be racist. Therefore if they then attack Asians because they are Asians, then that is not, and cannot be, racist, but is (apparently) caused by “White Supremacists” somehow.
      
      So Black attacks on Asians for being Asian is not racist by definition, therefore it is permissible.
      
      Worth noting too that those politicians most vocal about crimes against Asians are also those who directly support discrimination against asians in academic enrolment and selection. The Biden administration dropped the DOJ case against Harvard for its explicitly racist mechanism for selecting students which actively discriminates against Asians in particular.

  Thanks for that Chuck – I saw that a week or two ago, and it’s gone viral amongst Catholics – especially the younger ones. The priest is right – on two counts: many people (Catholics) don’t have the guts to stand up and condemn abortion as murder of the most vulnerable and innocent human beings.
  Secondly, he is right that the bishops( not all) are accountable for the failure to properly catechise & educate the faithful on the full teachings of the Church.
  And to that extent, I can’t dispute notrotsky’s little rant, except to say that the Church – which is the people – the vast majority of whom are not what he describes, but I understand where he got that point of view from.

  A lecture by a Catholic Priest on this matter is basically irrelevant. Most voters expect senior politicians to leave their religion at home and not take it into the halls of government. For instance, despite the conservative nature off Pacifica churches, most Pacifica people vote Labour. Voters make that separation, certainly so in New Zealand, but also to a significant extent in the US.
  
  That was the point that Chris Luxon made in his maiden speech. He was wanting to reassure voters that he won’t be guided by his religion on general government matters. He will need to be careful on his conscience votes. However, given that he will know the likely final result of such votes, he will know his personal views won’t make any difference to the outcome. Still, he will want to avoid being branded. His conscience vote on demonstrations outside abortion clinics won’t help him in that regard.

    Trump got elected in 2016 and maintains his popularity due to his public stance on abortion and his appointment of pro-life judges.
    
    In regards Luxon, there is no way he would change his stance on abortion he was offered leadership with National and ACT polling over 50%. Some NZ politicians have principles, not for sale.

  But what mostly worries Scout is how “they” (not including the baby though) is going to be treated by the medical professionals.
  Scout says Scout is trans, you see, and that seems to mean that “they” have to have special consideration taken of them as regards semantics, feelings, how they are addressed, what room they might be in etc.
  Scout also said they they might have to have a general anasthetic when they have the baby in case staff say something terribly upsetting about gender and pronouns during delivery.
  All about needy me, me, me and I,I,I.
  It must be very tiring having to live your life worrying all the time that people might call you by the wrong pronoun.
  On the other hand-

  A fairly straight forward case of fraud isn’t it ? How on earth did he think he was going to get away with it, though to be fair it looks like he was robbed in by an employee who probably knew that the invoices were fraudulent.
  
  I must say I thought that GST flows were cross checked so that the inputs by one were in fact correct. Maybe it’s at the sampling level and these transactions were never cross checked. I mean, the original claimed GST payments were never made as the invoices were fake, so I assumed that such fakery would be fairly easily uncovered by a fairly simple mechanism that checked actual GST returns with that claimed as inputs by others; but maybe that’s too hard. GST returns after all don’t list all transactions, just gross amounts, so maybe tricky to break it down by supplier.

Perhaps points to a reason why that location was selected – after the original idea of attacking GOP politicians was not followed through.

I think there is a good chance we will see this government implode. Its key personalities are deeply immature and they will be not be able to withstand the mounting pressure as this country’s economic and social conditions spin further out of control. We already know that Ardern can’t take the heat. Robbo’s egotistical facade is now also beginning to crack as he flounders around in the wake of this week’s impetuous announcement. They are clearly clutching at straws on the housing front and their actions will only aggravate the already dire situation.

There are at least a couple of other major issues on the horizon either of which could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. The Climate Change Commission’s unnecessary, insane and totalitarian recommendations would upend the kiwi way of life and affect everyone at the personal level – gas gas fired barbecues or water heating for goodness sake. If Ardern adopts them as she says she would she is on a hiding to nothing.

The “hate speech” legislation which would effectively place New Zealand under Sharia law when it comes to “blasphemy” could ignite massive protests including from the Old Left.

Neither Ardern nor anyone else in the Labour Ministry has the stamina or the intelligence to bear the consequences of the shit-storm they are creating by playing identity politics and through good old-fashioned incompetence. What will be the denouement?

  Body cameras are providing the proof required for prosecutions.

Duhhh! I’m not a rental owner but if I was and looking at rent controls I would put up the rents before the controls came into place. What an incredibly stupid thing to announce.
