  I think the greatest apology is due to the people who were forced into submission by coercive tactics and threats.
  
  They are the vulnerable, that relied on the experts and government guidance for their welfare. Their personal circumstances mean they are unable to make a personal choice and had to submit to pressure.
  
  I will acknowledge that I am fortunate and, yes. privileged. I have been able to refuse, because:
  * I am mortgage and debt free – removing many pressures.
  * my business model means I can. My skill set means I am in demand and I can work from home.
  * I have a solid background in both statistics and science, so I do not have to rely on the MSM and “experts”.
  * I have not been caught up in the social pressure.

    He is not making a call to insurrection.
    He is not calling for preople to execute anyone.
    He is not even wishing that on her.
    
    I cannot speak for KK, and unlike you I do not think I can read his mind.
    
    A “Ceausescu moment” does not mean a literal execution any more than the term “political suicide” means a literal suicide.
    
    History has proven to be unkind to tyrants. Many have been killed, literally. Others have faced political death – not a real physical death.
    
    If Ardern does not apologise at some stage very soon – before it is too late – she could very well end up as politically toxic goods – her UN career plans in tatters. For a power-hungry political climber like Ardern that is quite likely a fate worse than death.

Until now, I too worked for freedom under the radar, in my case almost totally isolated (and frequently derided) for decades.
  
  What is the most important thing? It’s not people, and it never was, and never can be. The most important thing is pure loving action at the right time – for the sake of all the people.

I was at the anti-mandate protest at Parliament again yesterday. The crowd was getting on for twice as large as it was on Friday.

For my volunteering stint, I was collecting rubbish around the site. So many people thanked me for what I was doing, but it really was a pleasure to be able to contribute.

I also had some more wonderful encounters. On the way down, I was sitting on the bus next to an old lady. We didn’t say much to one another, until she started waving enthusiastically to some protesters holding anti-mandate placards, as the bus neared the station. This gave me the opportunity to ask if she was going to the protest. She said she would like to, but that she felt too weak to do so. I told her I was going, and she could not express enough thanks for what I was doing. She said it made her feel proud because it was like the New Zealand of old, where people’s rights and liberties were respected. She started to get a bit emotional, and I’m not ashamed to admit I did, too.

I met a midwife who had been fired for not being vaxxed, and I met two former police officers who had been fired for the same reason. One of the former officers had 23 years’ experience, and I guess the other had much the same, judging by her age. Apparently, there is a support group for around 160 former officers who had been fired or put on indefinite unpaid leave.

I asked the two former officers if they would re-enrol, if they were offered their jobs back when the mandate ends, but both said No, they had had enough. 4+ decades of experience down the drain – what a waste.

Mrs Mandk met a couple from a small town in Central North Island who had both lost their jobs, he as a digger driver, she as a care giver. Worse still, the bank had just foreclosed on their mortgage, even though they were able to continue meeting the payments, with support from family.

I am sure there are lots of other protesters who have lost their jobs, or had family members who have experienced being fired.

I feel angry for these people, and I am angry at the PM, the government and all the other MPs, none of whom have had the courage to demand an end to the mandate. It seems to me that they are most concerned with keeping their snouts in the parliamentary trough.

Ardern won’t care, though. She obviously only cares about the possibility of people dying with/from COVID. She is too callous, even to acknowledge that there are diverse and large negative effects of the mandate.

Tragically, the negative effects will persist long after the mandate is gone and COVID is a memory.

  Did you even think about the businesses that can’t run while you say prayers on the front lawn of Parliament and block the streets, did you think about the jam for commuters that just want to lead their own lives to go to work and go home, or the students that can’t attend their university, the people told to take their masks off?

But I wish I was there for I am thinking of all of those Auckland businesses who couldn’t trade for 4 months, of all of the hospitality businesses whose trade is still compromised, of all those who have not been able to properly say farewell to departed loved ones, of all those who have had medical procedures deferred, of all those who are missing out of proven vaccinations, like measles and whooping cough.

    Amazing how people suddenly care about adverse effects on business and convenience to the public when there’s a protest for civil liberties. They don’t seem as interested in the affects of the ridiculous traffic light system or lockdowns on business. Anyway who do these protesters think they are, all that’s happened is they’ve lost their jobs and ok maybe a house by exercising a fundamental human right. The fact that that there’s no scientific basis for a mandate due to the vaccine not actually stopping transmission is a slight irritation I guess but think of the inconvenience to commuters.

    There are traffic detours in place. Not sure why students can’t attend their courses. Their only potential issues are when they and staff coming and going and how much of a problem is that in practice. It’s not like citizens are wearing body armour and linking arms to stop them entering buildings.

      I’m surprised the university has closed for 8 weeks, instead of reviewing it weekly based on the situation at the time. Do they have some inside links to the protest leaders that the protest will last at least that long? Or is this a signal of their lack of confidence in the police and in the government?

        I would figure it is based on the fact that the courses are organised around an 8 week semester. So if you lose half a 100-level course because of disturbances, you would not get enough info to enrol for the 200-level course that follows it ….

    Many people in Wellington are working from home so it must be quiet for businesses in that area anyway.
    
    On the positive side for those businesses, they have had 4 years of massive growth in the public service, adding many people to go shopping, eating in cafes and bars etc, apart from a few periods of lockdown, and the current protest period.
    
    The lockdowns and Working from Home policies for public service employees meant people had to stay away, whereas the protest is only an inconvenience for access.

      Certainly, some elements of New Zealand would like to see separate Maori functions. Whether in health or infrastructure or wherever. Labour has some sympathies for those people. But I’m also sure that sympathy will end just as fast as their political polling dries up.

        you need to see the wider context. New Zealand must adopt its first Emissions Reduction budget by 31 May this year, for the period 2022 to 2025. That budget will be attuned to a plan driven by the command economy approach evident in the Climate Commission’s recommendations in its report of last year. This government’s ideology will not allow it simply to let the ETS work its magic on its own .
        
        Establishing a monopoly over the procurement of imports sits alongside that approach. So does centralizing the management of all water related assets in New Zealand, for which legislation has been prepared for next month. Add to that the disestablishment of the DHBs and total control in the Health sector being centralized in Wellington.

        We have all sorts of centralised *management*, in both the private and public sector. We do that because it leverages skills, and ensures consistency of service.
        
        And we often have centralised *procurement*, for example Pharmac but it also happens in the private sector such as, gasp, Mitre 10 and Foodstuffs. We do that because it leverages economies of scale, and ensures consistency of product.
        
        I’m sure that you, Justitia and most commenters here benefit from those approaches.
        
        But none of that is a *centrally planned command economy*.
        
        Get back to me when a Kiwi Stalin arrives with a 5-year plan, nationalises all the private companies and farms, forces everyone to be employees of the state, and directs the economy. But as far as I can tell no political party here has ever even suggested such an approach let alone had it as a policy. So if that is “the word around Wellington” then it’s just word among the deluded.

  It is estimated that 14,000 people from throughout NZ took part.

      No Mike, There were almost 15,000 well behaved farmers from all over NZ who walked through Wellington that day – including me.
      They were supported by topdressing aircraft “buzzing” the beehive.
      The atmosphere from most Wellington residents was one of support with applause and congratulating the marchers.
      Muldoon had the courage to come out and speak to the protest and was very well received.
      His replacement Bolger is on record as calling the then Labour Government actions “evil”at subsequent protest meetings around the country!
      Today’s politicians have hidden in the Beehive like cowards.
      This is yet another Labour government ignoring the needs of New Zealand

    I took part as a teenager in Whangarei, I recall a lot of people in attendence in what was largely still a rural service center. Labour destroyed a lot of rural towns and people’s lives at the time.
    My impression is now that the protests were largely ineffective, that the politicians thought the marches, the devastation and suicides were a great joke.
    Until some angry famers got in Lange’s face and gave his car a good shaking, then the idea of the peasants revolting struck a bit closer to home.
    Groundswell and the current protests are failing in effectiveness because we are in fact feeding the sociopathic sadistic egos of politicians by admitting they have power over us and are hurting us.
    We need to get a bit smarter and identity how to make life uncomfortable for the oppressors, identify where the weak points are in their make up, without resorting to violence or getting offside with the population.

      I beg to disagree Matt. I was around and involved at the time including being in the Wellington march.
      
      Among many helpful outcomes the march achieved relief for farmers who were being put under by their bank. There were substantial debt write-offs, capital repayment postponing and other relief.
      
      Reality was previous governments let the economy get out of control. Inflation and interest rates well into double figures. A correction had to happen. It was ugly but inevitable. The marches did dull the sharpness of the sword.
      
      It is a reminder that there will have to be a correction after we get rid of this present govt. It will also be tough but inevitable.

  The mayor and other troughers complaining about the protesters camping out at parliament and blocking a few streets, the vast majority of wellingtonians would not notice it.
  
  It is not like they drive past parliament everyday.
  
  Then yet another water main breaks and several suburbs without water, I bet the residents noticed that.
  
  Local businesses complaining about a lack of customers when that is what the protest is about, apartheid.
  
  It sounds like they only want white (vaccinated ) customers not black (unvaccinated ) customers at their white (vaccinated ) only businesses.
  
  They would do very good business if they hung out a sign, all welcome, we don’t discriminate.
  
  But I really don’t see what all the fuss is about, the smelly infectious unvaccinated will pass covid around themselves and all die, problem solved.
  
  Crime is up they say, but most of our police force has been relocated to Wellington, so what are the crime stats. I suspect with so many police crime should be down.
  
  I suspect that the fringe groups causing problems outside camp freedom may be linked to the government, the police know them and ignore them . Or are the media interviewing their keyboards again and making it up.
  
  Given everybody has a camera these days where is the footage of this mystical magical crime wave hitting Wellington.
  
  Meanwhile I have a group of protesters heading down next week, these guys are very experienced, they know the law, they just needed some financial assistance.
  
  Party central will be the steps of parliament, party on. You certainly can’t party anywhere else,

        When I think of Russell Brown, which is very seldom, I recall most his strident advocacy for rational drug laws, care for the disabled, and public broadcasting, none of which causes have been helped by any government in my lifetime. So I am somewhat at a loss, but perhaps you can provide a more detailed critique to demonstrate that Mr Brown has always praised Labour and criticised National, even as both parties have pursued essentially identical policies in those same areas.

I flew down from Akl to Wgtn yesterday for the protest. I won’t repeat my assessment of the ground situation as it’s the same as ones mentioned here.
I asked my friend who picked me up from the airport if the protest had impacted him. He’s a lawyer that lives in Miramar and works on The Terrace and a few days in Johnsonville. He said no, not really. It will certainly be impacting people with offices immediately next to parliament but I’m skeptical it’s massively impacting Wellington. I think some arrangements should be made for the schools nearby but otherwise Wellington just needs to accept this is part of being a political city. Take the good with the bad. No doubt this will be an outrage to some of the more pampered BMW drivers that work in the area. Ending the mandates that will be unnecessary in a few months – if not now – is such a simple solution.
P.S. It’s laughable that the Labour aligned city councilors (and Labour-aligned National MP Nicola Willis) thought their little letter would have any influence. Lolz.

        OK, I’ll give you 2%.
        I’ve seen as high as 4% (in a ‘crowded’ country, which we are not). Let’s be generous and use 4%.
        
        So 96% chance it’s not going to help.
        But if you are concerned about catching a mild influenza-like illness (which Omicron IS), by all means, wear a mask. And a face-shield.
        Or just stay home. Actually that may be a bad idea, most accidents take place at home. Keep a helmet on, just in case.

The Manu Whenua of Wellington are Ngati Toa from Kawhia and Te Atiawa, their vassals of Taranaki. Together in the 1820s they genocided Ngai Tara, who had inhabited Wellington for hundreds of years.

At the risk of Godwinning, it’s like Germans proudly retaining ownership of houses stolen from Jews sent to the concentration camps.

Personally, I don’t know how Ngati Toa & Te Atiawa ki Te Whanganui a Tara descendants can look at themselves in the mirror.

  It appears that Trump will be running for president again. The mainstream media should thank him because he single handedly kept their ratings high during his presidential term. Now he’s not president outlets like CNN have lost most of their audience.
  
  Secondly Trump was right about everything. About China, about being spied on, about the need to take a balanced approach to covid etc etc. Regarding spying special counsel John Durham is getting to the bottom of the spying on Trump, the interception of electronic communications while Trump was running for office and even while he was president!
  
  Lastly Trump is a leader who wants to free up the economy and get people working again. What he doesn’t want to do is run every aspect of your life. He believes in freedom, unlike other current political leaders I could name.

  Actually, based on the judicial decisions that came out this week it’s more and more likely he is going away. As in “going away”.
  
  The NY AG had a huge win against him this week. The National Archives are going after him for having taken material – including “Top Secret” classified material – to Mar-A-Lago, and his tame reporter (Maggie Haberman) said he’d been showing those materials to punters there. And the Georgia prosecutor now has a special grand jury.
  
  Then Mazars said “Oh those 10 years of financial statements we did for him are inaccurate and we disavow all responsibility for them”. So presumably a bunch of lenders are now looking to foreclose.
  
  So it hasn’t been a great week for him.

I have wondered over the last few months who the people are that get medical exemptions from the jab. I don’t know of anyone personally, but through friends I have heard about people suffering anaphylaxis or myocarditis from the first dose, ending up in hospital for 4 days at deaths door, but getting a “no” from Bloomy. So do you have to die to get an exemption? Probably you’re not applying. So who are the 500 or so that HAVE received them?

I was talking talking to an (ex) psych nurse the other day (mandated out), and was able to enlighten me. He said that said 90 docs and psychiatrists at his DHB got medical exemptions from the jab because when all this kicked off they flat out said no, we won’t take it – and the hospital would not be able to operate with a loss that big. This is consistent with something i heard months ago, except this time it comes from a nurse who was told this by a doctor colleague. This nurse said that the biggest disappointment for him is that the docs subsequently failed to stand up for the nurses when it was their turn. So I guess they signed an NDA or something?

Anyone know anything?

  Yeah it is basically no one that gets them. Mrs wS works in health care, so is subject to the mandates. Had heart issues after the 2nd one, still ongoing nearly 6 months later but getting better, waiting to see a cardiologist (still, but on the list), been on beta blockers etc. GP says dont get the booster, you will end up in a really bad way, but you wont get an exemption. In the clinic they have applied for 3 females in similar circumstances, and it doesn’t even make it to the review panel. It sounds like just to make it to the review panel you have to have been very close to dieing, in hospital, with records, and in the records it has to say it was because of the vax. That is just to get to the panel. GP doesnt know of a single exemption being given out, none of her clinics patients have even ended up at being reviewed by the panel, just rejected outright.

    there was about a 10% increase in ‘excess deaths’ during the ’21 flu season in NZ (in absence of covid and most flus and colds), above those seen in the 2020 flu season when colds and flues were similarly absent. That’s about 2000 kiwis dead. Australia and Taiwan were similar. Can anyone offer an explanation for why that is definitely not down to the vaccine programs that were then underway in these three countries?

In 1977 there were long running protests against a proposal to expand the powers of the SIS to intercept private communications.

      Mallard’s fence is intended to keep New Zealanders from their own parliament.

I’ve always been a cynic but understand many people truly believe those fine gentlemen and women hanging in picture frames on their walls actually had their best interests at heart .
I believe many now don’t .

I think this govt hijacking a minor health crisis has destroyed trust in the govt for at least 70% of people .

Any govt . From now on .

The only way to reunite the nation would be to hv a royal commission and prosecute Brenda , chippy , Robbo , Hendy , wiles , little etc , the media aswell …. openly , in front of the nation . And lock them up . Let the people unite in vengeance.

This is a good read. Remarkably, Jacinda is saying you can demonstrate against the mandates but ‘anti vax’ messages will not be tolerated.

I agree with the author. People will not take the COVID vaccine for a variety of reasons. I may think that some of those reasons are silly but that is besides the point.

The COVID vaccines are a personal choice. I am much less tolerant of parents deciding not to vaccinate their children with an MMR vaccine with a 50 year track record. Because that is putting children in harm’s way.

These folk are not moving until the irrational vaccine pass system is dismantled. Or they are removed by hundreds of police with batons.

      Not quite 100% but the official data does show that the number of covid hospitalizations for the vaccinated is increasing rapidly but the number of hospitalization of the unvaccinated has been decreasing daily.
      
      Perhaps because the unvaccinated are not allowed to participate publicly or are taking a more cautious approach due to their vaccination status.

  The problem is that on Jacinda’s instruction all the protests (irrespective of the signs they are holding) are anti-vax, and the term “Anti-vax” has been broadened beyond someone who is sceptical of the medical technology of vaccination completely, to include people who have legitimate scepticism of safety and efficacy of an individual product.

Why the obsession people have for RATs?
We’re now dealing with the highly contagious but low virulence Omicron and BA.2 which is now displacing Omicron.
RATs and PCR tests were relevant for the more virulent and less contagious delta virus but now things are simper.
You will most likely get Omicron/BA.2, if you have symptoms you can assume you have it.
Most likely you caught it from someone with a vaccine pass.
It will give you a high degree of immunity from more virulent strains of COVID.

  My son is a school teacher. His wife is a school teacher. He tells me every school in Auckland, pretty much, has had someone down with the bug.
  He currently has hay fever, but he wants to know it’s not covid-19. He’s taken PCB test that takes up to five days to process, during which time he is away from work.
  If it comes back negative he goes through the same process again if, for example, he gets a cold.
  Regular rat testing, while not as accurate at least gives a good indication.
  My daughter’s husband works from home so he can just plough on if he’s waiting for the results of a PCR test.

Something amusing and non COVID.

I recently passed through Kaitāia. Northland has some great attractions. But sadly Kaitāia was not one of them. Gang members doing burnouts at the petrol station, run down and vacant buildings. General atmosphere of poverty. And curiously the staple diet seems to be fried chicken.

And so I was surprised to learn that Kaitāia has been voted “most beautiful small city in New Zealand.” ???

What are the judging criteria?

  I was in Kaitāia just prior to this Covid fiasco and stopped at a restaurant in the main street for lunch. whilst having lunch, a fight started outside with protagonists bouncing off the front window complete with some of the foulest language (not Te Reo) I’ve heard.
  Someone came from out the back of the restaurant and locked the door and assured all patrons there’s nothing to worry about, it happens almost every day. He went on to say the Police had been called but they hadn’t arrived when I left but an ambulance was in attendance.
  If that’s the author’s image of a beautiful small city, the author should give up that stuff he/she/it’s smoking/injecting. It can’t be good for humans.

  Bang on. Parts of Northland, and other far flung parts of the North Island, are real rat nests. There are gems there in the people and the attractions too, but there are places that wouldn’t be out of place in the third world. Drug addiction, gang control and abuse of the most heinous kinds are endemic. I’m on record as saying I’m happy to go there on a fishing holiday with my mates (we can manage ourselves) but wouldn’t take my family on holiday there. When I get lectured by woke types in Wellington on what they perceive as my right wing attitude to crime, I ask what their preferred method is doing to protect the victims of domestic abuse, child abuse etc in the Far North. Of course they haven’t even been there, much less mixed with the locals like I have.

Spent a great day at the protest. Met many people, including a former mayor of Taupo, an anaesthetist from Akl, a data scientist, several small business owners, high fived a lot of hippies and quite a few face tattooed Maori warriors.
Yes there are some conspiracy theorists. And drum circles. And heaps of hippies (might be safe to go to the coromandel again). But we are allowed to believe whatever we want, aren’t we?
What I didn’t find : white supremacists or racists.
Well worth the trip. Go if you can, see for yourself. And stop the mandates and Covid tyranny.

    From what I’ve seen, it has been speculated online that foreign assistance is helping Counter Spin (web platforms linked to Infowars and Steve Bannon).
    
    As far as politicians go, they have only really said that foreign themes have been imported. Which is reference to the QAnon themes, a global conspiracy about the vaccines etc. They haven’t said foreign money is funding it….   To be very specific, he said Omicron is a type of vaccine and it gives B and T cell immunity to Covid.
  
  As I understand it, with surviving Omicron infection (which is a highly likely outcome unless you can be knocked over by a feather already), the body is given a “mug shot” of a whole virus to “remember” and keep a watch out for, which would be superior to just giving the body a quickly fading mug shot of only the spike protein from the original covid strain (as in what most of the Covid prototype vaccines do).

Police could have acted sooner on Parliament protest – Cahill
Police have had to bring in more staff from across the country to help with the efforts in Wellington. There are about 200 staff that have to be available at any one time in case things escalated. The increase in resources in Wellington mean others in crisis are missing out.

“It’s victims of crime that are missing out, it’s victims of family violence, it’s people in a mental health crisis that police are just struggling to meet and certainly the minor investigations have to fall because police don’t have the resources,” says Cahill.

The police union expects this protest to last a couple of months.

  I cant exactly recall, but i think most all major mainstream online news sites removed the ability to comment on articles, it was under Cindys watch, and the CCH shooting was the reasoning behind it. I could be wrong though, but it was around that time.
  Prior to that, even stuffed comments policed as it was, was still gave one a bit a read into the public sentiment. that is completely gone now, only the most benign idiocy has a comment function, and even that can only be supportive.
  These media outlets are all fully captured, they are only function as advocacy journalism and that is only if it is 100% aligned with Cindys PR campaign.

    You can however listen through that to content.
    
    But all of the music on Concert FM, from classical through jazz, world music, ambient, contemporary, live concerts, is entirely apolitical, as are the announcers, hosts, curators.
    
    So, as National increasingly involves itself with music interludes and programmes – despite it being broadcast on FM in mono – none of that being objectionably political – the music is what it is – I intend to write to the CEO and technicians there, proposing that National should be in stereo, if they are going to broadcast shows and live songs – they don’t seem to realise that technically, only a few stereo microphone set-ups mix down well to mono – and that also, they should spend next money on upping the bitrate that they actually stream on.
    
    National is at spoken word level, but now doing music. Concert has all these downloads, but at well below the 320kbs max for mp3, almost CD-like.
    (I think they have them at 196kbs, must check.)
    
    World class classical internet radio streams do stream at 320kbs.
    
    That’s what the CEO should aspire to, IMO.
    
    Put National out on stereo, now that they’re doing so much music, and upgrade its bit-rate, and for Concert, raise the broadcast streaming bitrate, and – but this would no doubt cost – although maybe in future – make all those live recordings and program downloads available at 320kbs quality.
    
    This would be a far better legacy for a CEO …
    
    In the old days, bandwidth was expensive, as was local storage. These days it isn’t.
    
    So how about becoming world class, RNZ?

11:05am – The Government has denied rumours that they are planning on building a fence around Parliament as the protest stretches into a 13th day.

A government spokesperson told Newshub that, “Cabinet has no plans to build a fence around Parliament”.

I see the Ferald is still following the narrative that it’s the police’s fault that the protest has got so big. How can this be? This is all about Ardern & her government refusing to budge on even discussing the protestors concerns. This is a protest almost solely against the actions of Jacinda Ardern. This narrative can only be facilitated with the help of control over the two mainstream media outlets, The Ferald and $tuffed.

As useless as Coster is, this is not about him. I guess he’s prepared to take the hits for Ardern. What would he be on? I’m guessing around the $600-700k mark. I suppose he’ll hang in there for the whipping on that wicket.

Anybody with half a brain would realise it’s not possible to tow 400 cars and remove 1000+ people from an area in one go, without violence.

I see the Ferald and $tuffed are still maintaining the line that the protestors are abusive to passers by etc. This wasn’t what I saw when I went for a stroll through the protest site the other day. Where are they getting their material from?

  One other line the ‘bought out’ media (Ferald & $tuffed) seeming to be pursuing is that the housing market has plateaued. This would be due to the tanking of liquidity due to Minister Clark’s, (of mountain bike fame), poorly enacted CCCFA amendments basically sledgehammering anyone’s applications as of December wanting a loan. It has not only plateaued the market, it has also stopped the property market from functioning properly at any level. This will flow on to small business owners who have used their family homes as collateral for debt to fund their businesses.
  
  Liam Dann, another Ferald/Labour sycophant business reporter, has a piece on this and a similar article is appearing simulaneously in $tuffed today indicating that these lines of editorial have come from Ardern’s spin department.

  There is something quite sad about this. I have spoken to many cops over the last few days in and around parliament and my feeling is there morale is very low. This is rubbish work for them and they are not happy. Failed leadership over a period of time e has cumulatived in this Shambles and I’m betting there will be a many resignations soon. MiQ was taking its toll and this will be the last straw. Those that joined up to make a difference and believed in a better NZ, standing at Ease for 8 hours in the rain and cold, a mixture of abuse and symptahy from protesters, tortuous music from the home side, and forced to retreat many times as well as the embarressment of being trespassed from the camp and not knowing if they could enter. A lack of backing from the police minister and chief. These are dark days for the Bobby. The other thimg I have noticed is how out of shape many of them are, I know they have dropped the PCT standards, but they have no physical presence or intimidation factor at all. Our police force deserves better than the current leadership.

I remember when

When I first started working I was involved with the preparation of the company’s Woolstore staff wages.
From October to March, the period during which the main Wool Sales occured, they worked long hours.
The hours were so repetitive they still they remain in my memory.
During the working week they worked 12 hours a day, 8 Ordinary, 3 Time and a half and 1 hour Double Time.
At the weekends it was 12 hours on Saturday and 10 hours on Sunday.
Saturday 3 Time and a half and 9 Double Time and 10 hours Double Time on Sunday.
So they worked for up to 82 hours a week and were paid for 112 hours.
Most worked less than that but the whole of the period involved extensive overtime.
Their summer holidays were the statutory holidays each year.
I guess some of them suffered ‘burn out’ but don’t know of any.

I remember when

The number employed is high, and the economy has been performing well, but I was wondering what the wages bill total is and in what industries is it being earned.
We no longer have large numbers of those previously employed still working in the tourist industry.
Backpackers have largely disappeared.
Working visa numbers also seem to be far less than was previously the case.
Employers in many industries are crying out for seasonal staff.
There seems to be a large hole in business activity we are not hearing about.

Brian Tamaki’s daughter Jamie Warren, speaking at Parliament on behalf of the Freedoms and Rights Coalition, has laid out a list of demands for the Government.

In a statement from the coalition – which praised her for bringing “strong and decisive leadership to the protesters”, Warren laid out her four key points:

• End the mandates by March 1 2022
• Negotiation on March 1 with the Government on behalf of the protesters and the New Zealanders who support them
• A clear end date to the COVID-19 Health Response Acts and all its amendments
• Jobs reinstated to those affected by the mandates, and the back pay of wages lost as a result of them

Warren warns if the Government do not revoke the mandates, then Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern needs to resign and new elections be called.

“This has now gone beyond an arm wrestle to have the mandates removed, as the next chapter in this epic struggle for political change and the fight to get our country back, has just begun,” Warren said.

I see Andy Foster is asking government for money to support businesses affected by the protest. Where’s he been for the last two years? Government policy and absurd operational decisions (“working from home”) has made central Wellington a hitherto unseen ghost town. If businesses lack the financial resilience to ride out a protest that is not yet two weeks old perhaps he should look at how the service sector in Wellington had the rug pulled out from under it two years ago and was already blown to smithereens. What do you say about that Mr Foster?

Be good to know the BMI stats of those 100 people in hospital with covid. It’s quite a relevant stat. There’s a big difference as to whether a person ended up in hospital who has co morbidities and someone who did not and still ended up in hospital. I’m not wanting to know their names or anything. Just whether they are in the overweight/obese category.

Ethnicity stats would also be helpful. Then one could gauge how much of a threat covid is to themselves personally based on these stats. Why do the Ferald and $tuffed persist with numbers in hospital headlines that don’t mean anything without accompanying obesity and ethnicity stats.

  The lack of any pertinent information put my bullshit detectors upon alert as early as mid April 2020.
  In 0ver the past 22 months I have never personally heard of anybody who has been seriously infected with Covid-19. All news seems to have been, like my hands so often, sanitized.
  By the way, those few who have tested positive rate Covid as nothing like as serious as a severe hangover.

      I was asking how many of the 100 had been admitted for something else and were subsequently discovered to have covid, or were infected while in hospital.
      
      Just like there is a difference between dying from covid and dying with covid, there is a difference between being in hospital because of covid and being in hospital with covid.

  Are those in hospital due to covid, or in hospital with something else, say a gun shot wound, but tests show they may have covid?
  As we know, if they die, irrespective of the ral cause such as getting shot, it is a covid death.
  These are some fundamental facts we need to know, yest the MSM are incapable of asking simple questions.

  According to various numbers we have approx 2.5 beds per 1000 population.
  
  Assuming beds are reasonably full, that means 0.25% of all NZers are in hospital for all causes.
  
  Since likely only 50% or less of people infected with Omicron are getting tested, only 0.3% or so of them are in hospital.
  
  If only 0.3% or people with Omicron infections are in hospital and 0.25% of everyone is in hospital, then it really does not seem like Omicron is significantly more likely to get you in hospital than just being alive.

Will there ever be an end to the stuff whataboutism hit pieces on the stuff site berating the protestors and using the 97% vaxxed so we were right you were wrong, go home.

The real challenge the protestors seem to have is that they are not one story with one message, so rubbish click bated articles written by sanctimonious fantasists fill the gaps with absolutely anything that doesn’t hinder the covid media fund top up negotiations.

Not one person is in ICU today because of omicron.

What’s interesting over the last few years is how the company supplying the gov with its vaccine and with the documented history of deceit and incredible fines they paid because of that dishonesty have become a more reliable information source than the British Medical Journal who has been flagged by FB as an alt fact, conspiracy seeding little amature blog after posting an accurate article about that same company making the stuff they are wanting to inject into infants.
The post covid enquiry is going to be challenging for everyone involved.

Perhaps Jacinda could get a marketing job with pfizer if the UN gig gets cancelled?

    As its often said….
    If a female within Labour was genuinely respected when they said NO! to a male repeatedly and it was actually accepted the first time then two things would have happened….
    1. the females at the summer camp would not have been sexually predated upon and had to tell their story in court after the offending was buried.
    2. Andrew Little would have had to stay leader of the Labour party through the election.
    
    Then of course “whatabout” citizens of other countries have a choice of vaccine, not having to starve themselves to get out of MIQ or be pregnant with a useful skill set to embarrass the gov enough to get into MIQ.

      Ian – That’s incorrect. It’s ‘off label’ for covid but in NZ since the declaration from the Podium only a few selected Drs are allowed to prescribe it for the ‘on label’ indications. Go and ask your GP to prescribe you some and see what his response is.

      Around 15% of all meds prescribed in NZ are off-label.
      Around 50% of pediatric meds prescribed are off label.
      Many psychiatric meds are off-label.
      
      All off-label means is using the drug for something other than what it was approved for. Many drugs are found to have other benefits beyond their original approval and this use is off label.
      
      For example, a very common off-label usage is using asprin in low doses for heart attack prevention.

I am constantly fascinated by how intolerant the self-labelled “progressives” are of anything that offends their world view. The sound of collective media sphincters slamming shut because they have suddenly realised they are not universally beloved? The pursed lips of the PM when she says that this is not the way we protest in New Zealand? Mallard almost using the Clintonism of calling the protestors “deplorables”?
30% of NZ’ers oppose the mandates, most of them in the 30-50 age group. They will not be impressed, and I bet there’s more than a few Labour voters amongst them.
