  DPF may be interested to know that the guy who made this chart, Colin Wright (an evolutionary biologist of liberal inclination) had a WSJ article about it and the reactions to it, and since that seems to be paywalled here’s the Powerline guys with excerpts in Chart Wars. Key quote:

  One major change I have noted since my teens: it was always – and quite rightly – completely unacceptable for a man to grab a woman’s boob – and even worse if the grab was below the belt. But then things started to get complicated…if a woman was wearing – say – a plunging neckline it became unacceptable to look for more than a second or two at said cleavage…now it’s damn close to being an offence to even look – no matter how fleetingly.
  
  I have a 28 year old female friend…entirely platonic… she is quite open that she wears clingy clothing with plunging necklines “because I know my tits look good in tops like that”. Her female friends think there is either something seriously wrong with her, or at least she is some kind of traitor to her sex for being so open and honest.

    Same with out Thai friend now in Alaska. On Skype when her son was little, she used to say ‘excuse my boobs, I am just changing over feeding him’
    She is now around 36, and we have known her for 17 years. Not many people can go to the other side of the planet, and an Internet friend says “Here is the front door key, we are off to work”

      Funnily enough, David, you may have proved the cartoon correct.
      
      Many on the extreme left still consider Key as evil incarnate. (they can be identified quite easily as they refer to him as “Keys”).
      
      Key is a right leaning centrist pragmatist, and I see a lot of that in Luxon. This is the sort of leader that will get the job done. f the left think Key was too much, you can only imagine what they thought of Judith.

    Contrary to the Left’s hysteria, the “new normal” in the GOP is not Barnette but PC Republicans who, once they gain power, just end up ratifying liberal lies. It is an arrangement liberals should welcome. They propose liberal change and then “electable” Republicans enact it for them. Recall how the “electable” Arnold Schwarzenegger implemented Gray Davis’s agenda more effectively than Davis did.

It’s a bit like the great Mark Twain saying; “when I was 13 I couldn’t stand my father, I was against everything he stood for. By the time I was 21 I was amazed how much the old guy had changed.”
Take me. In my early 20’s I was an active member of the Values Party. We believed some really dumb stuff, like the No growth economy.
After a career working in the real world I now vote Act/National.

I watched the 1983 movie Trading Places last night.

It was a very interesting movie. It’s themes explored nature-vs-nurture, race relations, corruption, cooperate greed, class.. with generous amounts of karma.

Though I wan’t alive in 83, I imagine this movie would have been considered leftist for its time.. though I doubt it would be allowed to air today.

Hollywood was obviously pervasive in the 80’s, as such I felt this movie was an interesting snapshot juxtaposed to the “culture wars” of our time.

Though a comedy, I can’t imagine this movie not having had a cultural impact.

  kevn: Muller is quite frankly a fucking disgrace, and he’s got a bloody nerve remaining as an MP.
  
  His pathetic excuse when he resigned – that he didn’t understand the pressure being leader of the opposition entailed – was actually worse than pathetic: it meant he had been walking around parliament with blinkers on for a year or more.
  
  Opening myself up to ridicule here…when I became an MP in 2008 I harboured never expressed wishes to one day be a minister…I very quickly concluded that the obvious ones – Justice and Corrections – would probably be too much for my less than robust mental health, but I thought maybe I could do Police.
  
  I was fairly certain I could do the portfolio given out as a pat on the head to well behaved also rans: Minister for Courts.

I think my only critique would be that a few years ago, I’d have been standing by Conservative Dude’s right shoulder (as a social liberal and economic conservative) and I now understand what “reactionary” means. In response to the accelerating lunacy of the left, I’ve definitely taken a few steps to the right and have dug my heels in.

Joe Rogan made an interesting observation. He holds extraordinary power due to the fact that he’s merely engages with both sides of the political fence. He’s had Bernie Sanders and Tulsi Gabbard on his show and then would have Ben Shipiro (who he considers a friend) and Candace Owens a few weeks later.

His audience reach is on both sides of the political fence, as he considers himself a libertarian, but also hunts and mocks wokeness, and clearly had no time for AOC (or a certain NZ prime minister for that matter)

He notes that whenever he’s had someone on his show from the right, his leftist fans pile on the outage and send him hate messages. Yet when he has someone on the left, there’s silence from his audience.

Great meme. But the picture is a bit complicated in the states because the supposed “left” party, the Democrats, has now become the #1 War Party. The only Senate votes in opposition to the laundering of 40 billion more printed US dollars through Ukraine spending came from the GOP.

I’m… not sure that Elon is a reliable source of information on leftist politics?

“We were very wealthy,” says Errol [Elon’s father]. “We had so much money at times we couldn’t even close our safe.”

Also, As Elon has gotten older he has become more and more of a bussiness owner/employer – you know the specific demographic in society whose power left leaning politics is meant to keep in check. (I make no claims on the goodness of doing so, just that that is one of the goals of left leaning politics).

What this means is that Elon kind of started out as princeling, and has slid himself into the demographic that is often most at odds with left leaning politics. This doesn’t reveal hypocracy or even shifting goal posts on behalf of his “fellow liberles”.

It may well have happened! Culture and political movements changes over time! ….. but so do people.
Both those things are okay, and it feels weird having a “haha, stupid woke progressives” post on that.

….

OR it’s just a joke and I shouldn’t take it so seriously and shouldn’t bother to analysis it. That could be the case too.
