  As we begin the New Year, as many of us head to church, as many of us reflect on the year that’s gone, it would be appropriate to reflect on the importance of free speech and the search for truth.
  What has amazed me is the amount of suppression of the truth that we have suffered here in New Zealand since March 2020. Regarding the most important issue of the day, covid, the government has insisted that they alone know the truth and anything else is misinformation.
  
  The government insisted that the vaccine was safe and effective for everyone. The government also insisted that no other treatments are any good. There was no debate allowed on this issue. Indeed the big tech social media giants worked hard to suppress any debate. Here in New Zealand no one in the media would allow any debate on other possible treatments, for example ivermectin.
  
  This article may be of interest – “A variety of treatments emerged while the covid virus was raging. They included Hydroxychloroquine and others, like Ivermectin. Liberals denounced Ivermectin as a “horse dewormer,” even though it had been approved by the FDA for human use. It turns out that “Ivermectin Is Safe and Effective.”
  
  In a meta-analysis of 63 studies of ivermectin versus COVID-19 in humans, 100% of these have shown positive results. Over the 63 studies in meta-analysis, pooled effects showed 69% improvement in early treatment, and prophylactic use showed 86% improvement. Of those studies in the meta-analysis that were peer-reviewed, overall improvement in early treatment was found to be 70% (64% in randomized controlled trials), and 86% of those in which ivermectin was used prophylactically showed improvement (84% in randomized controlled trials).
  
  Mortality from COVID-19 over all time periods of delay in treatment was 76% improved over controls (69% in randomized controlled trials), whereas mortality was improved 84% in early treatment of COVID-19 (82% in randomized controlled trials).
  
  It is estimated that the likelihood of an ineffective treatment showing such positive results as the above results in the 63 studies in the meta-analysis to date is exceedingly small. That probability is estimated to be one in one trillion.

    Scott – good comments, but I would take the number of “covid deaths” with a very large pinch of salt.
    
    One of the biggest casualties in the last 3 years has been truth, and statistical manipulation has been one of the primary tools in this – along with the shill mainstream media and cowardly politicians.

      The Covid deaths is wholesale rubbish. My ex sister in law had invasive throat cancer for over 10 years. Only 52. She was in a Resthome, the Resthome got Covid and the sister inlaw died. Her death was listed as a Covid death. F! she died from cancer.

        This is where it is important to understand that Covid-19, like pneumonia, is a tipping point affliction. In a healthy individual, it does not kill, at worst it gives you a bad week or so.
        
        In those with other comorbidities Covid-19 will like the coin tipping game, taking the individual to the edge, and in some, sadly, over it.
        
        It is only this view of what Covid-19 is all about that gives the lead as to how to deal with it:
        
        1) Encourage healthy lifestyle and habits (exercise, lose weight, healthy diet)
        2) Put a protective net around vulnerable individuals – mainly the elderly and infirm, and those others suffering specific ailments. For the rest, let ‘er rip.
        
        As a side issue, anything with a safety record, and low cost such as Ivermectin should have been fully embraced – even if only to work with 5% of individuals.
        
        The total focus on an unproven and untested product, worldwide for all individuals, is still something I cannot fatham logically, without coming to the conclusion of collusion at the highest level, with a less than ethical and benign purpose.
        
        As they say, “follow the money”, and for me that appears to provide the most sound understanding to what has gone on, and sadly continuing to do so.

    Early treatment was totally disregarded for the warp speed wonder juice. Many died as a result.
    
    There is a very long list of questions about zero covid and the boosted clown show that will never be answered. There will never be a proper assessment of the covid policies over the last 3 years.
    
    In summary though Govt is very stupid and largely garbage and many people are cattle.

      I ordered Ivermectin from overseas as a prophylactic. I was unable to get it in NZ, even though it can be prescribed, doctors in NZ were basically barred from doing so or suffer severe punishment.
      Medsafe kindly destroyed my Ivermectin, a medication listed as “essential” on the WHO list, has won a Nobel prize and has been prescribed to billions without any problem whatsoever over the last 40 years or more.
      
      Instead, Medsafe attempted to coerce and bully me and my family into taking an experimental product which they never tested, yet told people over and over it was “safe and effective”.
      Of course we now know for a fact that this was a lie.
      
      And they wonder why so many people have lost all trust in the health system in NZ.

        When I finally got back home after nearly a year, after “winning” the lockup quarantine lottery = Feb last year (actually still this year where I am working now) I brought ivermectin, azithromycin and chloroquine with me. NZ Customs took the lot, even though I had split the quantities between 2 suitcases and even though I had less than 40 tabs/ caps in total. B******d-coated b******s with a b*****d filling.

        @Clan. I ordered Ivermectin through the main – only 20 tabs – from an out fit in Singapore (on line) and thery got through, so I told my mate, and he also aroded some & got it through. I guess we were lucky, but it was sent in just an ordinary enveloppe with the declaration calling them vitamin supplements.

    While you are at church, and reflecting on the concept of free speech, you may care to remember Giordano Bruno who was condemned to be burnt at the stake by the church for daring to declare that the Earth was not at the centre of the Universe and that the Universe did not rotate around the Earth.
    This was in his day heresy and the pope of the time ordered that he be executed. He was burnt at the stake on 16 February 1600 in Rome.
    That is what the church did to a man who sought, and taught, the truth.
    Can you really still think the Free Speech is allowed by such organisations?

      You are very selective in your criticism Alwynn. Bruno was excomunicated by the Lutherans & the Calvinists, and may have been done so also by the Anglicans when he spent time in Elizabeth I’s England, who was merrily hang, drawing and quartering Catholic lay people & priests.
      Sadly, the 16th – 18th centuries were a very sad time for all Christians & Muslims – it was a bloodthirsty time with – from our modern perspective – much wrong being done on all sides, and that is without mentioning the Battle of Vienna & the Battle of Lepanto where the Catholic armies & fleet defeated Islam & prevented them from taking over Europe.
      Not a good time in history by anyone’s standards.

        The fact that there has been no burnings at your church of late is because in the West clerics and churches have been defanged.
        
        It’s incumbent on us though to remember just how religious people acted before they were defanged and when they held the whip hand (we need only look to certain Islamic countries for recent examples) – and to do everything we can to prevent those days returning.

        The church has moved on! Well not very far.
        In 1992, after a mere 359 years they apologized for having condemned Galileo as a heretic and admitted that he might have had a point.
        Bruno on the other hand has never been considered as other than a heretic and the church has never shown any real sign of shame for their actions. The Jesuit cardinal who conducted his trial was canonized in 1930. Obviously he was thought to be a great chap.
        Bruno however is merely one of many people who organized religion has condemned. The last place one should go to to think about Free Speech is any place where religious observances are performed. Free Speech is anathema to religion in any shape or form.

    It should also be pointed out to those who don’t believe about Ivermectin that:
    
    [1] Ivermectin’s track record is such that safety was established in 1983, when it got approval for use in humans, after 17 years of research and years of approved use in animals. AND its 37 history of safety in humans.
    
    [2] If something is intrinsically safe, like Ivermectin, but supposedly not effective (however Ivermectin is effective) then there is no danger. Drinking a glass of whiskey when you have toothache may not be effective but is safe. You don’t see a total nationwide ban on Whiskey in case people drink it when they have toothache.
    
    [3] Ivermectin may have first been approved for use in animals, but considering human approval and long use of Ivermectin, denouncing Ivermectin as a “horse dewormer”, makes as much sense as denouncing Kelloggs Sultana Bran as pig or horse food. Bran was first used as animal feed.
    
    “You eating Sultana Bran – that’s stock food, and you ain’t a horse or a hen. Stop it.”

    Intelligent people, skilled in critical thinking, judge and determine the veracity and truthfulness of a statement or proposition based on the specifics and merits of that statement or proposition and how it relates to established science and / or reality.
    
    Unintelligent or people lacking in critical thinking skills, who are unable to process or evaluate specifics, predominantly rely on who said the statement and/or presented the proposition, instead of the content of the statement or proposition itself.
    
    If you wish to be a critical thinker and increase your intelligence, I suggest you aspire to focusing on the subject matter, not who said it.
    
    If you disagree, and want to stand on your dignity of only treating with any respect statements not made by anonymous people, I suggest your burn your bibles and any religious treatise, give away any books by Shakespeare and other authors that were pen names or front men to the real writers, and give away your TV set.
    
    The entire climate change argument that 97% of scientists agree on climate change is based on anonymous scientists and their statements. No-one has been able to find the 97%. They are invisible.
    
    Likewise, the entire mRNA vaccine “safety” statement was based on anonymous Pfizer testing, that was embargoed for 75 years.
    
    I disagree with you stance on KrazyKiwi, but given your stance of not buying into anonymous people and therefore by logical extension, anonymous scientists and anonymous and coveted vaccine data and trials, at least you agree with that the man-made climate change theory is a gigantic con, as is Covid and the mRNA vaccine.
    
    Unless of course, you have selective bias and operate on biased expediency instead of principle.

      And I went to it. And the speaker was behind a screen using a voice alterer so one could not figure age or gender or whatever of said speaker …
      
      And if I asked a question I would discover the audience had lots of hooded folk who would then get stuck into my intelligence, breeding etc.
      
      Would I feel I had learned something or would all I remember is the weird surroundings?

Various pundits on 2023 in Stuff. The word ‘division’ figures prominently. And there’s the R words. No mention of the other dividing R word, the 3000lb gorilla in the room. The pundits prefer examples of division like grocery bills and people living in homes with too many bedrooms.

1: Labour will get nastier and personal as their poll numbers continue to be poor.
2: Ardern will step down as PM for family reasons in Mar/Apr if poll numbers continue to fall. (citing Neive as being 5 now…school etc)
3: maori party will make many outlandish statements/announcements to keep them in the news.
4: Additional to #2….if Arden doesn’t step down (polls improve) she will shed (fake) tears in debates to show how much she cares about NZ and her ongoing help of child poverty.
4: Winston will beat the racial drum regarding maori and get offside with every party on the left. (But Labour will still not rule him out of a coalition)
5: There will be a sacking of a sitting MP by election day.
6: National and ACT will form the next Govt, Invite NZ1st to be part but not actually needing them….Winston will refuse.
7: Covid will continue to be everywhere but people get a more ‘meh’ attitude towards it and treat it as we have done with the flu for decades.
8: The Labour maori caucus fractures and loses the power they had in 2022, Jackson gets demoted/sidelined for repeated outlandish comments.
9: NZ economy in freefall, house price falls stabilise but inflation still a big problem, Orr still raises OCR.
10: NZ in recession/stagflation.
11: Mortgagee sales hit highest ever recorded, surpassing GFC.

So, in fact, the Treaty is just a Real-Estate Agreement – and a bloody badly written one at that – otherwise the United States of America Constitution would have been between George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and the Cherokee Chiefs, Cree, Chickasaw. Seminole and a few others ?

  I think the Treaty of Waitangi was an attempt to do better than had been done before, which is in itself a sign of progress. But progress isn’t linear, it’s more like a tide – it advances and recedes in waves, while still moving in its ultimate direction.
  
  The Treaty is not a Constitution. It wasn’t meant to be, or it would have been called that. It doesn’t detail how government is to be carried out, nor does it have any provision for amendment.
  
  To me, it puts governance in the hands of the Crown, guarantees Maori continued ownership of their property and gives them the rights and privileges of (then British, now New Zealand) citizenship.
  
  The sovereignty question is interesting, because while once it might have been seen as resting with the Crown on one side and Maori chiefs on the other, ideas have changed since then. British history is a tidal movement of extension of sovereignty – from the sovereign alone to all adult citizens. Since the Treaty gave Maori equal standing with British subjects, that surely means that today they all share in that equal sovereignty of the adult citizen. Any move toward chiefly rule is a step backwards from that. It disenfranchises non-chiefly Maori as much as it disenfranchises non-Maori New Zealanders.

    Easy to determine what it was in 1840, but what it is now?

      NZ’s constitution, similar to the UK’s, is a mixture of written and unwritten rules. There are NZ statutes which contain formal elements of the constitution, bits of old English legislation that have been explicitly retained in our law, pieces of common law, written and unwritten conventions, treaties and conventions that have been made part of our constitution, etc, etc.
      The TOW is clearly not a constitution for a polity but is interpreted in similar ways to broadly contemporary documents of enduring historical, and constitutional, significance. I’d venture to suggest that it will remain so unless an overwhelming majority of our elected representatives decides otherwise.

Another prediction missed for 2023 is if Scott Watson will win his appeal case in May. Interesting how a person in NZ can be sentenced for 17 years then kept in prison for another 5 years (at least) until he admits he’s guilty. But 501’s might soon be allowed to come to NZ free of any restrictions and not needing to continue any Parole restrictions they had in OZ.

    Like Peter Ellis, for example, imprisoned for crimes that not only did he not commit, they couldn’t possibly have occurred. Yes, I know he’s not a murderer like David Bain, for example, but in many eyes kiddy-fiddlers are worse than murderers, and especially so in prisons (I’m told).
    
    Ellis refused to admit his guilt and stopped going to parole hearings, he served every day of his sentence and nobody – prisoner or screw, laid a finger on i the entire time – and he refused to go into segregation.
    
    So the fact you refuse to admit guilt does not necessarily mean you like prison.

Globally in the ‘developed’ countries, autopsies are usually not being carried out even in the unexpected deaths of the previously-well younger cohort, and when they are, histopathological examination of the myocardium is not being done. I am a little – well, optimistic is the wrong work in this context – I expect that in months to come, people who have lost loved ones “unexpectedly” will be less academic in their pursuit of the truth and more focussed on the lying liars from Pfizer, MedSafe, the MOH, the Medical Council and the Government.

      A lot people in my life, including friends, business colleagues, suppliers and clients are either not vaccinated or got vaccinated only to save their business or livelihood.
      
      I count a dozen people directly in my life who have or are suffering from vaccine injuries, several of of whom could have easily died. When I count people I know or have met, who directly know people that have injuries or died, takes that figure into the hundreds.
      
      Ironically “vaccine indoctrinated” relatives and acquaintances, as proof of the safety of the mRNA, state they know no-one who is vaccine injured.
      
      That’s odd because some of those vaccine injured people that are known to me, are also known to the
      “vaccine indoctrinated” relatives and acquaintances.
      
      The reason the “vaccine indoctrinated” do not know anyone, is that the “vaccine injured” do not trust the “vaccine indoctrinated” enough to be open with them.
      
      Our govt made policies and laws silencing doctors and making it clear that spreading disinformation made you a terrorist. And spreading stories of vaccine deaths and injuries was deemed disinformation, so you can understand the vaccine injured confiding in only those people who are not judgemental and willing to listen.
      
      The true figures of Vaccine deaths and injuries in NZ is a horrible statistic, only suppressed and downplayed by the govt.

  Back in the old days car manufacturers we’re reluctant to introduce basic safety features because of the expense.
  The road toll was horrendous in NZ before seat belts, enforced speed limits, breath tests.

The UK’s John Campbell has gone from full on vaccine supporter to calling for the programme to be immediately stopped. This has been quite a long process. A classic example of someone actually studying the data and modifying position once new evidence is presented.

My name is John Campbell, I am a semi-retired clinical nurse, nurse lecturer, academic, researcher and author of numerous articles and two text books.

My specialisms are human physiology and pathophysiology, as applied to clinical practice. I have also produced many educational videos which are used extensively around the world.

In my view the UK health authorities should pause the current covid-19 vaccination programme, due to the risks associated with vaccination.

whether New Zealanders should all have equal political status, David Seymour has been absolutely unambiguous. He favours the repudiation of the UNDRIP on the grounds that we already have in Article III of the Treaty a guarantee that all New Zealanders have equal political rights. He is surely right: there can be no basis for treating some New Zealanders as having any kind of constitutional preference to any other New Zealander.

I’m told that a few weeks ago somebody who hoped to migrate to New Zealand from
Ireland was told by Immigration New Zealand to submit a 1000-word essay on the
Treaty as part of his application. WTF? The Treaty is nothing like the Constitution of the United States. The 3 Articles in the TOW do not cover 1000 words. Total bullshit.

  The 3 Articles are a Geoffrey Palmerism. They are not obvious or intermated in the original ToW, the one that was signed by the Queen’s Representative(s) and the majority of Maori Chiefs at the time.
  IMO, Palmer is a naive fool as intermated in an article called ‘The Dark Facts on the Waitangi Tribunal’ which is based on Palmer’s book ‘New Zealand’s Constitution in Crisis.

John Key in an interesting review of NZ-China relations in the Herald says China still has hundreds of millions of people it needs to move from the rural countryside to cities and towns and with this urbanisation will come massive economic stimulation.

Key is probably thinking about industrial growth, though scores of millions of young rural Chinese have already moved to the cities (China has at least 125 cities with a population of a million or more).

The next step will be consolidating millions of tiny rural holdings and villages to get the Agriculture Revolution firing, just as the land enclosures of Britain set agriculture production roaring, and the colonial settlement of New Zealand created a mini-powerhouse of food exports.

China’s land area is 35.25 times that of New Zealand’s, and 54.7 per cent of China’s land is agricultural compared with 43.2 per cent of New Zealand’s.

The coming spurt in China food production must make export competition hotter for New Zealand.

At the same time, animal rights activists and Greens and other climate extremists with their carbon trees will be making business harder for our farmers.

The Adrian Orr-Grant Robertson money-printing factory won’t help us.

  There will be no new urbanization revolution in China, or anywhere else. Everything everywhere is about to be upended by nascent AI. The long posited “singularity” If you look how remarkably competent ChatGPT is, and keep in mind it is already 2 years old (replacement GPT4 is nearing public release).
  
  Chat GPT is already on the edge of being able to replace most lawyers and many other professionals in simpler tasks, without any deliberate effort to make it more competent in anything other than general knowledge – so when that relatively simple specialist knowledge is added (just a few extra weeks training on complete contents of legal and medical libraries) in coming years huge swathes of the workforce are going to become unnecessary.
  
  Meaningful intellectual careers are going to become a rarity very soon, and our assumptions about the economy are going to be irrevocably broken.
  
  Everyone needs to educate themselves on what is about to happen to the world. I recommend watching interviews with Sam Altman and other Open AI researchers – they are at least out in the public, Google, Apple, Facebook etc are doing it all in relative secret, but are just as advanced.

    Many no doubt are. We’ve suffered the usual lot stopped in the middle of intersections while they wonder who they are, where they are going and why. One of the best efforts attempted to do a U turn onto the back of the ferry queue and succeeded only in getting stuck straight across the road blocking both lanes just as about 30 cars were trying to drive off the ferry. The clown had to drive up onto the footpath to let them through.
