Has anyone noticed that the government’s (and to a lesser extent National’s) policy on Net Zero and 100% renewables has descended into farce. At least it would be if they weren’t wasting billions of taxpayer dollars on it. And threatening to saddle future generations with crippling debts.
That is why Woods is continuing to push Lake Onslow – Labour can then continue to claim it will “solve” the issue. The proposal wasn’t viable at $4B, yet they still claim it makes sense at $16B. Would you let that kind of magical thinking exist in the accountants running your company?
Onslow won’t generate electricity. It will just give some previously generated electricity back – stepping in when the unreliables aren’t there. Like the other day at 8am when 1040MW of nameplate wind produced 2MW. That is not a misprint, just above zero. It may have actually been less than that as the grid doesn’t record negative values needed to keep the turbines rolling to prevent bearing damage when no wind to drive them.
So to give the surplus to fill the lake, they need to overbuild wind. Prices for wind farms means the power from the ones just built is more expensive than average grid price now. And the price is rapidly going up. New Zealand will need about an extra 50TWh a year from wind to meet their net zero target. Windfarms at best sites are about 45GWh p.a. a square kilometre. You can do the maths of how much land that is – mine says about twice the size of Lake Taupo. Taking into account the secondary effects will make it about ten times larger than the actual farm site. Remember each of those turbines needs a big road built to it and tonnes of concrete. Coming soon to a place near you will be the reality, even for suburbia and ten acre block country. Then you have all the transmission lines (extra costs) marching across the land.

But don’t worry. All the virtue signalling chardonnay set in leafy Auckland & Wellington won’t be affected – or maybe they will. The drone and flicker at their country estate could drive (in an EV of course) them away.

A notable quote I found this week. It is from Dr Angus Dalgleish, Professor of Oncology at St George’s University of London

As a practising oncologist I am seeing people with stable disease rapidly progress after being forced to have a booster, usually so they can travel. Even within my own personal contacts I am seeing B cell-based disease after the boosters. They describe being distinctly unwell a few days to weeks after the booster – one developing leukaemia, two work colleagues Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and an old friend who has felt like he has had Long Covid since receiving his booster and who, after getting severe bone pain, has been diagnosed as having multiple metastases from a rare B cell disorder. I am experienced enough to know that these are not the coincidental anecdotes that many suggest, especially as the same pattern is being seen in Germany, Australia and the USA.

This was in a letter from Dr Dalgleish to Karam Abbasi, the Editor in Chief of the BJM.

I wonder if Chris “Get Boosted” Bishop would care to comment?

      If I read the story correctly there’s a suggestion that our reduced mortality was due to lockdowns. I’m a bit perplexed by this as plenty of countries had lockdowns and also have _increased_ mortality.
      And so what, even if it’s true – lockdowns came with plenty of-ve consequences that Ashley didn’t have to concern himself with, but the rest of us are still working our way through.

I have 3 friends, we’re all of an age, all in the same suburb of Auckland, all connected to the same service organisation, all vaccinated, all with an SCC diagnosed in the same month.   Is anyone at all surprised that cancer etc get a boost from the “vax”?
  
  Consider how your immune system works. You can think about it as an old-style police force with bobbies on the beat looking for bad actors to confront and destroy. Something that comes along and should not be there: bacterium, virus, cancer cell, … it gets attacked.
  
  But a vaccine tells the immune system that there is a serious threat to watch for, so it has reduced resources to hunt down other diseases etc.
  
  Then comes the fake vaccine: Natural vaccines identify the nasties by a wide range of features. The new, synthetic vaccine says there is one, and only one, thing to look out for: a very specific spike protein.
  
  So know your whole immune system is geared up to watching for a specific spike protein. That is all. Anything else that does not exhibit that spike protein is ignored.
  
  It’s like the cops all responding to a fake bank robbery – they ignore people speeding or stealing cars they have been told there more important things.

    Over the long term excess deaths should average out to zero.
    
    Watching excess deaths too can bring up some very poor decision making because there are so many things that drive it.
    
    Human breeding and dying is not constant. Just look at the Baby Boomer wave.
    In the 1950s there was a wave of extra babies.
    In the 1960s they became a wave of primary school kids.
    In the 1970s they became a wave of secondary kids & university students.
    In the late 1970s/early 1980s there was a wave of weddings…
    And now they’re entering the zone where they are filling retirement villages and falling off the end of the perch.
    
    Also, bad flu will harvest hard. The grim reaper will carry off a lot that should have been next year’s crop. Next year there are fewer.
    
    Likewise, all the shutdowns and hand washing will likely keep away a bunch of flu-like diseases. Mortality will be low and the next year the Grim Reaper will pick up a bumper crop.

  The only difference between then and now is that daily data on deaths and cases isn’t reported daily by government and media to scare people like during lockdown. Doesn’t mean there are less cases or deaths. And most likely life would have just carried on the same way if we hadn’t had lockdowns etc.

    Ruawai – partly true, but the biggest difference is that Bloomfield used the cumulative data from the last 3 years. We cowered under our beds for much of the beginning.
    The numbers tell a completely different story once the jab rollout begins.
    
    I’ve given a link to an excellent report on it in my other post. Bloomfield is misconstruing the actual data in a most disingenuous way.

  The key point he is claiming is that NZ has negative excess mortality since the start of covid ergo, the policies he oversaw were a success and he’s a hero.
  
  Sir Ashley said he was greatly satisfied that three years on from the first lockdown, Aotearoa still had negative excess mortality.
  
  “What we found in Aotearoa – in 2020, 2021 – we had less deaths than you would have predicted based on the previous years. And whilst once the Omicron variant came along, yes, we did see Covid-related deaths, the numbers have climbed. Still, if you look over those three years, cumulatively, we’re still not back at the level, the number, you would have expected.
  
  Anyone with half a brain should have been able to see the obvious con job at work. CUMULATIVE deaths.
  Remember, we all hid under the bed for an extended period of time at the beginning. Nobody was doing anything, of course excess deaths were down in the first year and a bit.
  
  The real test is examining the numbers since the beginning of the jab rollout. That is a whole different narrative. Numbers increased and continue to do so. The relevant data and proper discussion is well explained here.
  
  As we enter into another year, excess all cause deaths for the first six weeks of 2023 in New Zealand are running at 700 deaths higher than the long term 2010 to 2019 average (as reported by the authoritative Human Mortality Database which tabulates official New Zealand government data).
  
  Allowing for an increase in the population of New Zealand since 2019 of 269,000, excess deaths are running approximately 17% above 2019 rates and 24% higher than the excess death rate over the same six week period in 2022. In other words, the rate of excess deaths appears to be accelerating.
  
  I can’t recommend reading the full post more highly. Anyone with evidence to counter this, please present it.

    Take me back to the good old days where the newspaper reported news. Eg, a car crashed here, or a lion escaped there.
    
    Now the media articles consist of “Politically compromised ex director General of Health tells us that everything he did during the pandemic was great and that we should do it again”. We aren’t smart enough to question him so we will just agree with him and demand you do the same. Or you are racist.
    
    He was so great in fact that he had to step down from his role in the middle of it all, just like the rest of those involved in this to confuse the trail.
    
    Never forget, this guy tried to have us beleive that someone caught covid off a lift button. The rest of the world had already figured out that covid was spread by aerosols but not ol’ Ash.

  On 3 February 2021, The Prime Minister of New Zealand @jacindaardern stated:
  
  “Medsafe’s decision is the culmination of a rigorous assessment process over many months to ensure the #Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is safe and effective to use here. It is informed by the most up-to-date medical and scientific data. We can have confidence in their decision.”
  
  She told us all that the vaccine was safe and effective, and this was repeated by MPs, Principles of schools, business owners, CEOs, influencers and journalists.
  
  However, Medsafe’s clinical assessment of the vaccine said no such thing. Rather, it found:
  
  – The duration of the vaccine protection has not been established beyond two months.
  
  – At this stage, there is limited evidence of protection against severe disease.
  
  – There is no long term safety follow-up information.
  
  – Vaccine prevention of asymptomatic infection and disease transmission has not been established.
  
  Tragically, we also now know that the vaccine is causing serious injury and death .

      Wow. One of the reasons I was apprehensive about getting Covid vaccines was Anaphylaxis. I had a bad attack that could have killed me. Drug that kicked it off was suxamethonium during a prostate biopsy. I was scared to the point of making sure the antidote was there right next to me when I got my first jab.
      I only got the second jab because of the passport blackmailing from Jaspinda.

        @ Ghost. Tell you what, I was 68 then, still fit, still working.
        Prostate biopsy under General Anesthetic, groin entry. (35 samples) I was not breathing so needed a tube into my lungs. Suxamethonium causes temporary paralysis.
        Things did not work out. A 60 minute procedure turned into way over 7 hours. 2 – 3 weeks to really recover. I just don’t want to go there again.

When will New Zealander’s wake up and realize the Government is not the only ones holding back our children in education with the choice of what our children need to learn, School Teachers are a percentage of the problem also with their out of date and race based subjects they want to teach.

  Not at all surprised to find, under the last, damning paragraph headed “What has she said?” that there was precisely nothing the slightest bit controversial. She issued this challenge to Chippy the Boy Wonder: “Let’s see what happens when you stop a woman who is a women’s rights campaigner, when you stop her from being able to come and facilitate the speech of women in your country.”

    Parker was asking, when they pulled up, where are the cops? And as her security took her to the podium, there was not one cop to be seen, and the protestors were surrounding the podium behind flimsy barriers, and they immediately advanced on the podium forming a crush. Again, no cops.

  Something like 20 high grade holiday homes at risk. Mainly exacerbated by strong easterlies now and then. The solution is relatively simple – put rip-rap (big rocks) along the foreshore. Unpalatable because it would make the beach unavailable for two weeks or so at Christmas. Hatepe has a similar problem westerlies.

The Minister of Education and some of our Primary School Principals tell us that they’ve been working on a plan for four years to revamp the School curriculum and strengthen Maths and Literacy teaching…

The Min Of Ed has just released the plan…… (well, half of it….)

In which we learn that kaiako (teachers) will:

*recognise that the artefacts, concepts, and ideas of maths are cultural

And to do this teachers and pupils will employ terms like these:
Data sovereignty, humanising mathematics, teaching maths for social justice (TMfSJ),
ethnomathematics,
maths + {conscientisation, equity, ethics, citizenship}.

Yes, I know it is all a bit much…. but relax, the Plan explicitly states:

Ākonga:
• are clear about what they are learning
• have a reduced cognitive load

  I noticed too that immediately upon National releasing their news yesterday the media companies had interviews with various teachers, academics and principals who almost all poo poo’d the initiatives.
  
  I saw not one random parent interviewed. Not one. I might have thought 8 or 9 out of 10 parents would be all for it, saying “great, when can it start?”
  
  But what do they know. It’s only the ‘experts’ who can speak on how and what our kids are taught.

      (I gather such a topic is now only taught at University Level)

Meanwhile enrolments at private schools are exploding as those who can afford and want a decent education for their children realise the state education system is crap.

The same is happening with private medical insurance……. under my policy I am guaranteed to see an oncologist within 5 working days of a GP referral for a cancer check.

If I went public for the same I will wait at least 4 months: An oncologist friend told me that in that four months many kiwis progress from stage three to four. Sobering if you can’t afford
medical insurance.

  And historically, Kiwis have pretty high rates of medical insurance use, which goes to show how long this has been a problem. I related the other day that I know a couple of civil servants, one working in the health sector, and they have medical insurance as part of their pay package.
  
  Great logic: you pay taxes to pay their salary *and* their medical insurance but if you want the same you can’t even claim a tax deduction for it. Same with sending your kids to a private school.
  
  You pay twice, and the goal of making you pay twice is to prevent you voting with your feet, because if you could there would be an exodus from the public systems showing them up for what they are. Unless you are well-off, Kiwis are imprisoned in a system that forces them to pay with no option but to take what the state rations out to them.

I had to look up the phrase “cognitive load” as it’s not something in common parlance down at Kaiti Mall.

It means how much information your working memory can hold at one time….

So it looks like our Min of Ed is doing all it can to ensure our learners/ākonga/학생/discipuli don’t stuff their brains with facts and information.

I wonder if it is too late for me to sue my old school for making me learn by heart tracts of the Bible, numerous hymns, names of the first Maori canoes, Latin conjugations, Times tables, Equations of motion etc, etc…..

I’m sure all that cognitive overload exhausted my delicate brain cells and prevented me from becoming a Labour voter.

  When I learned my times table (up to 12) I was sent to the Headmaster who congratulated me and gave me a pencil as a prize (usually being sent to the Headmaster was not that pleasant). Teacher encouraged us to learn the 16 times table (up to 9×16) as that often helped with mental arithmetic.

  Our target should be number one in the OECD. We should settle for nothing less. Let’s spare no expense, let nothing and no one stand in our way. Let’s be an example to the world. Let others flock to us to see how we did it.
  
  What’s stopping us? Why aren’t we number one already? We’re a tiny country geographically, relatively prosperous, small population, good civic institutions, stable politically, no war, excellent communications infrastructure.
  
  Let this be a massive great news story internationally. Something to make us feel proud of ourselves instead of the relentless diet of shit government delivery. Of constant failure.
  
  Within ten years we’re turning out Maori, Pacific, and all else, scientists, engineers, scholars, medicos, first-class trades people, horticulturists etc by the thousands annually. We are internationally renowned for the education and skill levels of our people.
  
  And the incumbents who poo poo? The teachers, unionists, academics and principals who say it all can’t happen, to slow down, who express ‘horror’ at the proposals? Well they are banished to the sidelines. They are the problem. Get rid of them. Laugh at them and then ignore them.
  
  And to pay for it? Cut out massive expenditure from lower priority government spending. Say to New Zealanders “We value our kids education more than these other things. So we’re going to stop those other things to make the money available for our kid’s and our country’s futures.
  
  Let the naysayers argue against it. That their pet projects should be prioritised over the education of our kids. I dare them.

  I made it along to watch the show. It was obvious before I arrived that no-one was going to hear from Posie Parker today. Unite had a truck parked by the park entrance nearest the rotunda, with multiple speakers mounted on it blasting out loud music.
  
  It was momentarily drowned out by a large group on noisy motorcycles, who turned up, stopped in the middle of the street while their leader appeared to do a piece to camera, then took off. Some of the protestors gathered at the edge of the park telling them to go home.
  
  About half an hour before the event was due to begin there were already large numbers of protestors on site, gathered around the fences with their placards and noisemakers. The walls of the rotunda had been plastered with posters by the protestors, partially torn down by Posie’s team.
  
  I didn’t see actual Nazis, but there were about 4 guys with face masks decorated with grinning teeth, and a man who kept demanding they take their masks off and show their faces. Oddly, he seemed unbothered by the large number of protestors who were masked.
  
  Once the event actually started, the protestors, who were already completely surrounding the rotunda surged forward through the barricades.
  Not long thereafter I heard a police officer say they were making a plan to get her out.
  
  They did, and as she was taken to a nearby police car, I saw the only “assault” I witnessed – a guy with a camera pushing a police officer.
  
  Later, Queen Street was treated to two marches in succession – apparently someone else had organised a march (I’m not sure what it was meant to be, but the bystander next to me felt it was anti-trans) and this was followed immediately by the pro-trans folks who’d now made it down the hill from Albert Park.
  
  Mostly I think it was sad. I don’t think Posie really posed a danger to the trans community and I suspect their leaders know that. Without their intervention, she would have spoken to a few dozen supporters and no-one would have noticed.
  They gave her enormous publicity, probably far more than whatever her actual message is really deserves.

Interesting to read in a Stuff report about tramper’s death reference to ” Hato Hone St John.”

The organisation, formerly St John Ambulance, says on its web site of the changed name (rather than adoption of a parallel name in a second language):

The name was not gifted by iwi – it is a literal translation of Saint John to Hato Hone. This has been guided by Hato Hone St John Kahui Mauaka Maori Responsiveness Team, in consultation with iwi. It is not a formal name change but it is a shift to fully incorporate the translation of our name.

Nothing wrong with having a Maori language name as well as an English language name, but St John Ambulance is forcing the Maori name into use in the English language. Very Woke, and part of the drift towards a New Zealand Pidgin.

“Hato” is a loan word for “saint” borrowed from English. “Hone” is a loan personal word from “John “.

At least “waka tūroro” doesn’t seem to have been adopted for ambulance vehicles. That Maori term translates as “sick canoe”.

In a funeral notice for a family member or friend you may want to say a donation would be appreciated to a particular charity.

Posy Parker should have the right to say that she wants safety for women.
She should be allowed to speak her opinion.
She was paint balled, harassed and scuffled and not even allowed to speak. We must allow speech which we do not agree with to be heard or we are intolerant. We should not fear speech.
She needs to be surrounded by police in Wellington next weekend and be allowed to speak her truth. We must not let the fascist Left decide who can and cannot speak. Freedom of speech should be permitted.

  Spinoff story at 1.51 pm said that she walked out onto the crossing trying to stop the motorcycles, recoiled from a strike and then walked back off the crossing, and then was helped to the ground by other people. The story seems to have changed since then.
  
  The motorcyclists revved their engines as they drove down the street, with protesters waving signs at them from the footpath. After half the bikes had driven past, Davidson stepped out onto the pedestrian crossing, holding her sign in one hand and motioning with her other hand for the bikers to stop. Footage seen by The Spinoff shows Davidson a few steps out on the pedestrian crossing as bikes continue to speed past her. Then, one bike appears to strike her, with its handlebar making contact with her stomach. Davidson recoiled and hunched over, clutching her stomach as she walked back to the protesters on the footpath, who helped her to the ground.

Personally, I believe that today’s events represented great politics from Mr. Hipkins.

During the Rona hoax, Hipkins and Cindy eliminated any and all free speech, for the best part of three years. When people tried to protest, he sent in the police in to smash them. That stopped the opposition in their tracks. He then smeared the protesters, and the rest is history.

This approach is straight from Chairman Mao manifesto The Little Red, at beginner level.

Today, Mr. Hipkins jumped to the advanced level. I suspect that he ordered Cuddles Coster to intervene as little as possible into the protest.

This time, Mr. Hipkins dealt with the problem of free speech by unleashing his Red Guards, to smash free speech by force.

I believe that Mr. Hipkins’ idea is to completely intimidate the Team of $55 million, the public, and any dissenters, so that they never dare to speak freely again.

People too afraid to offer any dissent should give Mr. Hipkins a great chance to win the next election.

History is written by the winners. Mr Hipkins is on fire.

  Posey got to the rotunda in a huddle of her supporters. Then the protesters started to surge forward and the barriers came down.
  
  The Police were at the back of the protest, on the edge of the park. One of Posey’s team managed to get out from the rotunda and was quite upset with the Police over their lack of action; they responded that they were organising to get Posey out.
  
  There were a group of them forming up at the roadside, getting ready to go in. But then Posey appeared, surrounded by her huddle again. The Police then surrounded her. I was surprised how far down the road they had to take her, followed by the crowd, before they got her into a Police car, and eventually got the car out through the crowd.
  
  I wouldn’t call it a riot. There were a lot of very noisy people and there were some taking physical action, but the majority were either standing still or walking. The organisers seemed to have some control – at one point, some of the crowd headed out of the park, following some of Posey’s intended audience, but I noticed they stopped at the edge of the park.

Today at 12.30pm a protest was held by a large group of what looked like 500 people. Mostly Maori and Pasifika. It could have been the New Conservatives or Destiny Church but I am not sure. They Clashed with The LGBTQI group who were at Posey Parkers Albert Street event.

I can confirm there were approx 20 police at Aotea square and queen st outside the Imax cinema. I counted 5 police cars and 4 bikes. WOW!! so they had their priorities sorted. What stunned me was the Trans groups had Soviet union flags and unite union flags. To me this is what the issue is for me.

The media incited violence against Posey by calling her a Nazi and an extremist. This was a call for someone to physically harm her. Imagine if she had no security? The police new and it is a disgrace. This could be the start of a shift in NZ. Will National Party rallies be met with crazy mobs? I took pics of the flags but unsure how to link to kiwiblog?

If it weren’t for the actions of the security guys, I think the trans mob would have killed KJK today.

I think she would have gone, or be taken, to the ground where she would have been trampled and/or stomped and kicked to death – such was the unhinged fury of many of the trans people present.

I also wouldn’t for a minute rule out the use of bladed weapons either which were extremely rare in my youth but seemingly ubiquitous these days.

What does that say about the mob today? Of their true nature?

And where were the police? They’ve known for days about this event. They will have been monitoring the social media posts of the protest organisers and known it had the potential to go bad. Hell, many here on LB have been openly predicting it this week.

Did the police massively drop the ball, or was this deliberate? Didn’t they have a duty to keep the crowds apart today? Why didn’t they carry out that duty?

The more I think about the police inaction today the more I am dismayed and lost for words.

KJK was physically attacked today. That tomato liquid could easily have been acid or instead of a liquid it could have been a knife or a gun.

Why wasn’t this foreseen and prevented?

Will we get answers? Will the Police Minister demand them? Or will she think KJK got what she deserved?

I think the Labour Party has some explaining to do.

What is really concerning me about these far left nutters stop someone from speaking is how low the MSM are now willing to go. The MSM are actively trying to pretend that it’s unclear what ‘side’ did the disruption / attacks. I mean, for f sake. Really? Have we really descended so far into banana f-ing republic that we now have the MSM running deflection for a bloody mob? Can’t wait for the CNN type headlines ‘mostly peaceful’ counter-protest!!!!

Can you imaging the outrage if this was reversed? If some nutters had sprayed a trans advocate and a rent-a-mob had tried to drown them out? The labour/green (and probably national) politicians would be fighting to get in front of a mic to condemn the actions of the mob. The police would be cracking skulls, and the media would be running a crusade against the protesters – they’d probably be doxxing the ringleaders!

But, other than Seymour, nothing.

I said it earlier. Shameful behaviour – absolutely shameful.

Well, I’m never looking at the trans lobby the same way ever again, after today.

I can’t quite believe that six or eight or so years ago I regarded myself as an ally and was supportive of the whole movement.

Then slowly as the demands became more extreme, I was a hater and a transphobe if I disagreed with the slightest bit of it.

Today we’ve seen the full flowering of the whole trans movement. Now that they have total ascendency in government, institutional and media support they are now the oppressors. Today was intolerant mob rule.

Might is right.

Speak against them and look out.

Nope, I now realise they’ve pushed me against them.

They have become the monsters.
