  ‘All Auckland bus driver Rajnish Trehan wanted was for an unruly passenger who refused to pay to stop shouting and show some respect to other public transport users.
  But his request for some common decency was met first with the passenger saying “This is my country, you are my servant”, and then with violence. Photos at the scene show a distraught Trehan bleeding from his facial wound. Later photos taken in hospital show a front tooth mostly dislodged and a gaping wound to his chin that required five stitches. He described the assailant as tall, in his mid-40s, and of Māori or Pacific Island descent, with short hair and a tattoo on his neck.’

      The criminal class don’t care . The courts have shown they refuse to protect the public by not imposing meaningful sentences and Labour , the last ruling power also showed it didn’t care about the public’s general safety because they literally wanted to wholesale release prisoners, much of that based on some very dodgy racial theories .

      Sherp: If we didn’t have ACC we would have the unedifying spectacle of ambulance chasing lawyers and all the ills that go with them. ACC has its downside(s) certainly, but overall by far a better system than the alternative.

        Disagree, but not entirely, ACC has it’s place…BUT…
        It doers not offer any deterrent to the perpetrator, in cases like this.
        or cases of personal negligence.
        eg
        Years ago, I was walking in LA, I stepped out onto the road, looking the Wrong way (like a stupid NZ tourist).
        Cars stopped up to 30m away, it was explained to me that, they are afraid of a law suit.
        Maybe in cases like this the victim could:
        1. Get fixed up by ACC (medical etc)
        2. Be open to bringing a lawsuit.
        3. the crown bringing a law suit to recover any monies for ACC.

    The bus depot supervisor seemed more concerned about the welfare of his bus than the welfare of his driver. In the absence of an ambo, surely the supervisor could have parked the bus up (on a bus stop! and taken the driver to hospital.
    As an aside, I doubt that Singapore bus drivers would be treated in this was by unruly passengers.

        “cis” describes a person whose gender identity corresponds to their sex assigned at birth, i.e., someone who is not transgender. So we have “cis women” and “trans women”.
        
        The prefix cis- is Latin and means “on this side of”.
        
        This nomenclature is recent. Prior to about 10 years ago we had “women” and “transvestites”. (Women who wanted to change into men were rare. I’m not sure they had a collective noun.)
        
        In turn we now don’t have “mothers” but “birthing persons” and so on and so on.

  There is a tenant advice and support Facebook page, and when tenants raise issues there advice mostly consists of apply to the Tenancy Tribunal and get a big payday. Sometimes it works, but often it doesn’t. The adjudicators tend to take a fairly even handed approach based on evidence presented. Stopping paying rent is not seen as helpful to a tenant’s case.
  
  Recent Wellington case, tenants applied for $100,000 compensation for a bunch of issues. End result $0.00 – dismissed, dismissed, dismissed ……
  
  The other end result is that tenant details in a failed (or mostly failed) case stay in very public bright lights for 3 years.

If yoi want to burn your eyes out, go read the newzealand sub reddit. Its interesting to me as it’s mostly young people (teens to around 25). It’s interesting their take on government, and how hilariously out of touch they are.

It’s very left wing, but the amount of political posts in there should prompt the right to actually engage and shut some of the nonsense down there.

  It has been done and it doesn’t work. Reddit by its nature promotes groupthink and the silencing of unpopular opinions. At least one regular poster there is some kind of labour activist (hardly need to say who, they post the same rubbish on other sites under the same handle) and has carte blanche to flood the subreddit with labour party agitprop.
  
  The Auckland subreddit is somewhat better but the Wellington one is simply atrocious – a clutch of students and unemployables trading tips on awful takeaway food, not a whisper of any adult priorities or concerns. I’d like to think that many of them would wise up if they owned property and paid their own bills but I’m not sure that’s necessarily true.

    The All Blacks aren’t playing badly. Winning both SA tests was not beyond them. Closing out the last 10 mins let them down. That’s mostly an experience thing, which will come with time. The Boks have that experience. If Razor had taken over last year, with Sam W, Brodie & Arron available to him, I think the WC Final might have gone differently. So according to the Police and deputy mayor of Auckland Desley Simpson, the Grey Lynn shooting is an isolated incident and all just within a small group of people that know each other. Well 5 cases of stabbing and shooting murders in one month in Auckland should concern anyone that lives next door or even in the same street where it’s happening. Imagine what that would be like Desley. But then maybe they live in a crime free zone. Talk about tone deaf.

Just two out of forty-odd Councils think their ratepayers should have a say on Maori wards. The rest think they know better, which underlines the disconnect between Councils and voters.

The terms in which the debate has been couched makes it seem that a “no” to Maori Wards is a “no” to Maori Councillors. It would be interesting to know how many General Ward Councillors are of Maori descent.

  Firstly – Councils are run by the government influenced staff not the electeds- and certainly not the ratepayers.
  Many mayors and councillors spend happy time having their egos massaged going to functions, openings and meetings where , for the most part, the others are attending because they want something or have just received something eg a grant or promise of same for the new sports complex, theatre etc. It is all very civilised and friendly.
  Yes, they will be fronted by single issue people who get on their case about rate rises, money wasted, more funding for this and that – but they are usually easy to brush off.
  Ratepayers “having a say” on anything is often only a last minute option and not one they would want to actively pursue.
  I suspect that many councils, large and small, will be thinking that wholeheartedly agreeing to Maori wards with no dissent and no referenda will result in more coin from central government to say thanks.
  So best not to rock that boat eh?

The series of racial attacks on people of Asian ethnicity are the result of telling one group of people that they truly belong here, are the master race here, while everybody else are ‘colonisers’, ‘Pakeha’ (outsiders), and ‘Tangata Tiriti’ (only allowed to be here through Maori agreement via ‘Te Tiriti o Waitangi’).         No. Vaccines were never associated with autism. In the “early 1960s” the only vaccines given in New Zealand were Smallpox, Diphtheria, Tetanus, Whooping cough, and Polio. Parents fell over themselves to get their children vaccinated because such parents had experienced first hand the horrors of these diseases.
        
        IIRC the first versions of the MMR vaccine came out in about 1970. Every New Zealander born before 1969 is considered immune from measles because before the vaccine measles was endemic.
        
        Sadly we now have people who have turned to myths, as humans have done for Millennia. People who believe that vaccines are harmful, despite all the evidence that they have saved untold millions from death and serious illness. People who believe that matauranga maori is “science” when it clearly is not.
        
        Eventually, rationality will prevail. On Maori “science”, vaccine phobia, on creationism and on the other threats to rationality. Sadly, it could take some time.

        Interesting, I had measles and mumps as a kid in late 70’s early 80’s as did most of my peers and my dad had mumps in early 80’s too. So it clearly wasn’t rolled out to whole population. I remember only pubescent girls getting rubella vaccine in mid-80’s

    Except that Maori are First Nation (arguably) but not indigenous. The meaning of indigenous has been changed in NZ to suit the claim. Maori came to NZ in the 13th. century from the Pacific islands, so cannot be indigenous.

The politically motivated lawfare assault on Trump has failed. Sentencing in the only case that has proceeded (so called hush money case) before the election has been delayed until after the election. The other cases have been dismissed or trials delayed until after the election. Trump now has a legally clear run up to the election. As the purpose of the lawfare cases was to prevent Trump becoming President, there is no point proceeding with them after the election, whether Trumps wins or looses. So I expect they will all disappear after the election.

  The brewery staff all decide that a certain type of beer is the best. They brew it and market it as the best beer. However the consumers don’t like it and most stop buying it. So the brewery responds by marketing that the consumers don’t have good taste and they are going to re-educate them to understand what good beer is. Despite this ongoing campaign the consumers continue to not like the beer so they go and find new beer suppliers, some begin to brew their own.
  
  The brewery staff start to get worried as they see their jobs are vulnerable. So they ask the government for support. The government must tax the new breweries and pass the tax back to them. They must also ban people from making their own beer. They tell the consumers to get stuffed because they are ignorant and wouldn’t know a good beer if it hit them in the face.
  
  The government give them money to produce even more unpopular beer. The consumers are now angry, they are paying tax on their new beer that the government is using to produce beer that is unpalatable. So the consumers vote out the government and the funding to the brewery is stopped.
  
  Brewing staff are laid off in massive numbers. They blame this on the unfair advantage that home brewers and their competitors have. The staff that remain attack the government as they are to blame for not funding them to produce beer that nobody wants to buy.
  
  Tame etc will continue to drive the masses away and blame us all for being wrong. They are like petulant children who will not see the error of their ways. We are all to blame!

Re the rugby:
Yesterday there were three games in the provincial championship (or whatever it is called).
In all three very competitive and entertaining match-ups, one team was well ahead at half time.
But the second halves saw each of the teams which were behind play determinedly well – two ending up winning.
The third lost only because of a long range penalty kick on full time.
Maybe the All Blacks and their coaches should take a look at how it’s done.

“Numerous” people have been shot near I-75 in Kentucky and a manhunt is underway for the suspect, according to authorities.

Just after 6.30pm, the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office announced that interstate highway at Exit 49 and US 25 — nine miles north of London — was closed due to an “active shooter situation.”

The authorities added that “numerous persons” have been shot near the highway. The Independent has emailed a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office for more information.

The shooter is still at large, according to police.

The word is “well”, not “good”.

But no, Anna did not make that mistake. Stuff did.

The real quote is “We only spoke about tactics five minutes before call room. After the heat, I knew if I could hold it together, I could run a really good time but I didn’t know that good.”

That is is a correct usage of “good”, but Stuff chose to chop up what she said to make a headline, and in doing so made her look illiterate.

These days there seems to be a lot of lefties on Kiwiblog.
I see this as good, and good without any nastiness. It works both ways.
NZ politic comment will increase especially about the Councils. America as well with the Nov 5th Election date in under two months.

  Indeed, I have no doubt whatsoever that he would be appalled were Kiwiblog to descend into being merely a right-wing echo chamber.

    I did not say they shouldn’t be here. I did say I see this as good.
    Things will change before Oct next year. I for one will be personally face to face putting pressure on local Councillors about the Maori Wards and no referendum. They want my vote then they need to earn it. I will have support to back it up.

I read from a recent visitor that Tonga is the meth capital of the Pacific. This surely can’t be the case for such a wonderous tourist spot?
