103 ways for local government to save money
The Taxpayer’s Union has done a report listing 103 ways local government can save money. Some of the more significant ones which I support are:
- Install water meters
- Avoid excessive advertising
- Do regional shared services
- Don’t rebrand
- Stop postal billing
- Sell unused assets
- Pay market rates for jobs, no more
- Stop corporate welfare
- Leave social housing to central government
- Let the ETS reduce greenhouse gas emissions
