Gone by the end of lunchtime! No surprise really, but the question now is, how soon will he be followed by DBP? The parallels between what Wishart is alleging now, and the assaults for which the police found a prima facie case are startling, to say the least. If Wishart’s allegations are not challenged, it seems to me to be totally unrealistic that BP could remain as Social Development minister, with responsibility for the Children, Young Persons and their Families Service – after all, you can hardly call his “leanings” compatible with family values – then again, this IS the Labour Government we’re talking about!

Just as aside – just read the NZ Hreald article about DBP, and was intrigued by the statement “Mr Benson-Pope said that he had taken legal advice about Investigate editor Ian Wishart and his lawyer had been in contact with television networks.” If DBP has nothing to hide, why would he be getting his lawyers to “heavy” TV networks?

Well he’s not going to say “yip, you got me” as he is a Labour MP afterall – they are pathalogically allergic to the up front, honest response.

When you don’t want to deny it outright or risk later being caught in a lie when all cards are played you say and do things that sound like denials. A tried a true tactic is to trot out the legal threats – remember Peron promising to set lawyers onto all who highlighted his dirty past? Nothing came of it.

Wishart isn’t stupid. His livlihood, his professional success is centred around the success of Investigate. He wouldn’t have printed such an obvious case for a claim of defamation without ensuring he could successfully defend such a charge with a defence of truth.

With respect jamie, you’ve misread my post. The existence of the EB’s is no more or less a secret than Southern Kinx. Your or I could probably join both on the same day.

I’m referring to the personal value systems of individuals voted to represent us in parliament. In that regard, and on the assumption that the DBP story is corroborated, his personal value system is confirmed as quite different from the happy family man image he presented on polling day. Some voters will feel misled by that.

And the same might have been said for ‘mainstream’ Don Brash. Even more so, I suppose, because there Brash was presumably/allegedly deceiving his wife, whereas Pope appears to have been partaking in his ‘deviant’ past-time with the knowledge of his spouse (correct me if I’m wrong).

but I suppose Brash’s indiscretion is now moot.

As we all know, the Labour Party doesn’t have any internal politicking or machinations; every member is squeaky-clean, there is no conniving, no manipulation, no special interest groups, no fringe organisations with any influence over the Labour Party, no large donors making anonymous or “arms-length” transactions, no special dealing…

You pinkos must wake up every morning with a constant sense of wonder as to how moral and proper your democratic party organisation is.

Don Brash is a very good man, who brought National to the brink of a historic win in 2005. If Labour hadn’t corruptly misappropriated public funds to outspend everybody else in the election campaign, Don Brash would be Prime Minister right now. He has more personal integrity in one strand of his combover than every Labour caucus member who has served as an MP in the last twenty years.

Fascinating how the Labour Party can dish the worst kind of political smear in recent history against a man they consistently had confidence in to run the New Zealand economy for 14 years, and the most you pinkos can do is gloat about doing him in.

I’m not surprised that Don Brash is quitting politics. The Labour Party carried out an act of political assassination using the filthiest tactics.

Be a bit careful not to get too far up the creek, IP. I gather (on the account of people who have seen it, none of whom are in the Labour Party) that at the least, Hager’s book will contain evidence that Dr Brash has not been entirely and at all times upfront with the public.

I’m not about to congratulate the Labour Party on achieving what they set out to do: to deliberately destroy a man they consistently supported as Reserve Bank Governor for fourteen years, for no reason other than that he was a direct threat to Labour retaining its baubles of office.

And I don’t really think it’s very tasteful for pinkos to be crowing about a deliberate and cynical plan to destroy somebody actually working.

Its a pretty simple equation really.

Even if, by the most warped type of partisan twisting of fact, you were able to make Brash & National out to be equally corrupt, dishonest & sleazy as Clark & Labour, there is one quite startling difference.

Brash has kept some vestige of personal honour by resigning.

DBP, Clark & Field have shown that they have none.

If this is a victory for Labour, then it really is a very sad indictment on the moral and ethical state of not only our politicians, but the country as a whole.

Sonic – I suspect that the worst case scenario is that he may have had some contact with the EB’s, or the Roundtable. Big f’ing deal – everyone seems to forget that we do actually live in a free country, and that organisations are allowed to support particular policital parties. Just ask your Union mates! Why is Union involvement in politics OK, and not a ‘vast left wing plot’.

National have to contend with the blend of fact and fiction that Hager is serving up and help get Key up to speed and resume attacking Labour for their corrupt governance. Thinking labour supporters (the minority) will be hoping the first two tasks occupy all National’s bandwidth, because there’s no shortage of corruption mud available for slinging at H1 Inc. The bulk of Labours supporters don’t care, don’t understand or can’t read.

Don may well have handed Key a poisoned chalice. The timing of his resignation is a final example of his political club foot. He says he is going to fight Hagars claims, then he resigns in the face of them, lending credence to whatever Hagar has on Key. The facts of it no longer matter politically, Hagar has been proven right by Dons surrender.

As far as Hagars book goes I’m interested in seeing if the ‘neocon’ stuff will turn out to be a misnomer. Hagar may have mislabled the American faction the Nats have been working with, as I doubt the neocons don’t give a rats about NZ. I’m guessing it’s christian coalition types and all around nice guy Grover Norquist, who has of course never been associated with corruption or electoral shennagins at all. no sir.

This from the washington post in Jan 04 (around the time of the emails Hagar has I’m guessing)….

The charges against Benson-Pope and Brash are not deviant sexual practices / affairs / whatever. The charges are hypocrisy.

Dr Brash paraded his marriage, but had an affair on the side. And yes, that fact that his affair was with a major right wing political lobbyist is important.

Mr Benson-Pope paraded his ‘normal heterosexual’ marriage when he was fronting for the civil unions legislation (which BTW, I support, as being better than nothing, but not nearly as good as it should have been i.e full marriage for same-sex couples).

I don’t like the sound of Mr Benson-Pope’s alleged sexual activities, but it does sound very much as though all the participants were consenting adults.

However, if the BDSM allegations are true, then there’s a rather nasty feel about Mr Benson-Pope’s treatment of school children. They were not, by any definition, consenting adults.

For the most part, whether you like it or not, “fundie” Christians tend to have a very traditional view of sex and those views are one of the distinctive elements of the Christian worldview and lifestyle.

The world by and large teaches that a person’s private life and their public behaviour can be kept separate. I don’t agree with that at all. Hence Christian views on matters such as this are relevant because, in this case, the subject’s private life is likely to spill over into his public life.

What a person does in their private life spills over into their public life, inevitably.

This fellow has been accused of engaging in public practices that indicate a connection between his attitudes supposedly in his private life and in his public life. The inference is plain.

Mr Mark Peck, another Labour member, fell from favour because in his private life he drank too much. This spilled over into his public life quite inevitably.

It’s simply naive and stupid to suggest that one’s private life can be so compartmentalised that it has no relevance to one’s public life.

Just as a wee reminder, watch the video from March 2006, with Chris Trotter and Rodney Hide both saying Benson Pope should resign and that Labour were absolute hypocrites in their treatment of him. Bear in mind, this is before all this other stuff came out.

So remember. He is still here because Helen Clark stood by him, just as she stood by Philip Field at the post-Ingram press conference.

Well, as long as the donkey was a consenting adult.

And as long as the teacher did not behave in ways that implied that the activities she engaged in in her private life were influencing the way she behaved towards my children in her capacity as their teacher.

And as long as she didn’t hold herself out to be happily married, in a standard heterosexual union, for political reasons.

I might find donkey fucking to be distasteful, just as I find brussels sprouts and Sing-Star to be distasteful, but not immoral.

So continuing the current theme, and with the deepest respect to donkey’s everywhere (incl our own dear kiwi_donkey) I have a question for animal rights folks (he ventured… hoping to attract the attention of a greenie or two)

It’s all fair game for the audience of Investigate magazine, most of whom tend to look outside the mainstream media. Wishart is giving this group what they expect from him.

You never know, because there could now be pressure from those conservative Dunedinites for DBP to retire quietly at the next election.

This sort of thing does smell – as a former National candidate John Connelly found out to his considerable discomfort.

– releasing his decision today while his advisors must have known that this DBP business was on the go
– having his press conference at 1 pm, ensuring the afternoon session of Parliament would be overshadowed by the announcement.

Parliament has just risen for two weeks. The damage potential is thus limited.

Brash could have left his announcement to Friday morning.

Y’know if Wishart’s story is right then DBP is a “sub” and not a “dom”. Sub’s take punishment not dish it out. So by that logic the kids should have been beating him not the otherway round.

Just a thought.

Oh and another thought how does Wishart’s article reconcile with this one he wrote in July 2000?

Sex, drugs, a horse, and a teenager. IAN WISHART wants to know whether the media realise they’re in a glass house.

Sex sells. And nowhere more so than on the desk of some bored news editor whose own life is so tedious they have to get their titillation from writing about other people’s pecadilloes.

So what if Mark Todd uses cocaine? If the Sunday Mirror had revealed that his horse had snorted the Colombian marching dust I’d probably be more concerned, but I can’t just get excited about Todd’s personal habits, if any.

In my career as a radio/TV/print journalistI have seen so many of my colleagues stoned, drunk or both in varying stages of moral decay. I don’t need to name names. They know who they are.

Narcotics are not something I’ve ever wanted to indulge in – apart from a brief fling with marijuana as a 20 year old radio reporter, which I quit because I felt it was fuzzing my short term memory.

But my fellow journalists not only went with dope, they progressively got stuck into harder narcotics like speed, ecstasy, cocaine, and even heroin.

In some places I worked, the sight of manic reporters with horribly glazed eyes and sinus problems was one of the amusing highlights of my day.

Hell, at Radio Hauraki in 1984 I came to work one day only to find that half of my fellow employees had been picked up in a dawn raid by police investigating a cocaine ring – the same investigation that saw a National MP left untouched by police because arresting the MP would have upset the Muldoon Government’s one seat majority and caused a snap election.

Now in the latter case had I known of the the MP’s involvement at the time I would have run it as a news story for obvious reasons – but not simply because the MP was using cocaine. The only news value in the story for me was that police allowed political pressure to influence their judgement.

And so back to Mark Todd. I, and I’m sure most New Zealanders, don’t want to know what he does in his spare time or who he does it with. The only legitimate news value in the Mirror story was whether or not any alleged drug taking would affect Todd’s equestrian performance.

As for the Dover Samuels affair, spare me! Regardless of whether he showed stupidity in getting involved with a teenage girl, unless it is shown that she was underage then he has done nothing illegal, no matter how much any of us may find it repugnant.

For the Prime Minister to sack him, before all the evidence is in and without allowing due process to be followed, shows how hollow the Government’s words are on our employment law – any employment lawyer worth his salt would have a field day with this on a personal grievance/unjustified dismissal basis.

Given that some MPs have paid out sums of $90,000 or more to extortionists to cover up sexual misdeeds, one wonders how long before the lid blows on that one.

Again the news value is not the sex, it is the fact that some of our MPs have been compromised and could be blackmailed into committing treason or corruption.

It is time for the media to watch the ball, not the balls.

Ever tried being a teacher? Those heroic folks take regular beatings – psychological, verbal and in some cases physical. Hey maybe the kids drove DBP to it, he’s probably safer at the kinx club than in the classroom!

If they gagged or tied up kids these days it would be a crime, and it would sit poorly with me, whether they got their rocks off or not, which is an irrelevance.

In days of greater permissiveness about violence towards children for disciplinary purposes, something heavily advocated by twits here, it would have sat badly with me too, but I probably wouldn’t have been able to do much about it. Again, not because of anyone secretly getting their rocks off, an unknowable unprovable assertion, but because I have never liked any form of corporal punishment or humiliation of children, because I didn’t like receiving it when I was a child, and not being a hypocrite is important to me.

I don’t claim to like DBP, but I still wouldn’t really care what he did in his spare time, other than as a form of mild amusement. If he was a good teacher, he’d still be a good teacher. Many who dealt out such things were – their classes had a lot less time-wasting larakin dicks acting the goat in there. Doesn’t mean I approve of their methods, but that was a different time, and a different kind of school to what I attended.

“SECRET RECORDING HOLDS KEY TO BENSON-POPE SEX ALLEGATIONS”

Investigate Online confirmed today it was in possession of a secret recording of a conversation involving members of a Dunedin sado-masochism group that confirmed David Benson-Pope’s involvement in the sadism ring and also discussed how to protect other members of the group by simply lying to the media.

The story broke on Wednesday evening when Investigate published a detailed article on its website alleging, among other things, that the Minister for Social Development, in charge of CYFS, had a sado-masochism fetish that included adult-child sexual discipline.

In the secret recording, one member of the “Southern Kinx” group can be heard confirming they had fed a journalist making inquiries about Benson-Pope “bullshit”, and that they had denied knowing other key members of the group as well.

The members can then be heard discussing how to combat the out-ing of “Panty”, which is short for Benson-Pope’s bondage nickname “Panty-slut-boy”, and its implications for the rest of the group.

The members refer to Benson-Pope by his proper name at times, and parts of the recording disclose extremely angry exchanges about the fact that the information has made it into the media.

There is also anger that “Panty’s” treatment of Bayfield High School students has brought attention on his involvement in the sado-masochism community.

Investigate Online is not releasing its extensive tapes and recordings for a number of reasons, including because they may become highly relevant to any court case, but has played the particular recording in question to selected media purely to confirm its bona fides, who have described it as “compelling”.

Investigate confirms it has further extensive information on Benson-Pope and a number of prominent Dunedin people and their partners who have been involved in the sado-masochism ring – some of them with Benson-Pope.

Investigate Online also has independent confirmation of a deliberate campaign by members of the Southern Kinx group to lie to the media – that confirmation has also been caught on tape.

Although websites run by the bondage groups have been either firewalled or shut down since the story went online, Investigate had already collected numerous photos and emails from the “members only” sections of those websites which are relevant to the investigation.

To date, David Benson-Pope has failed to issue any denial of his involvement in sado-masochism. We encourage Benson-Pope to issue a point by point denial of the detailed allegations in the article on Investigate’s website.

If a persons private sexual matters are his/her own business,and I think it is as long as its consensual,Im not forced to fund it and it doesn’t cause a conflict of interest etc…then therefore does it not follow that all of a persons private consenual activities that meet the above criteria are also no ones elses business ? Such as your income and what you choose to do with it…>
