More NCEA nonsense

A fascinating HoS story on all the ways NZQA uses to push up NCEA pass rates.

Karamu High School had a policy of only allowing students to take a test twice. They were told to stop this by NZQA as contrary to national practice to allow students to take the tests as often as necessary until they pass. Hey if it is multi-choice it can’t take too many goes.

Now remember they do not record failure. So the NCEA record will not show any difference between someone who passed the test on their first go, and someone who passed it on the eighth go.

Another school was told that even if a student failed two tests, one can take the good stuff from one test and add it to the good stuff from another test to declare they have passed.

And they wonder why employers (and parents and students) have so little faith in the system.
