Priest Off Add this story to Scoopit!.

Oh dear do not watch this if you are easily offended. It’s an ad for a new “Priest Off” spray which keeps them away from children who have been sprayed with it. Bitingly funny as National Banana often is.

Racist bastards….what about imams, rabbis and secular celebrants?

A Canadian style HRC is needed to deal with this.

    Quick…socialists arise.

  2. kiwitoffee (382) Says:

    When do I start laughing?

A couple of points spring to mind in response to this humourless drivel.

Firstly, sexual abuse by the clergy – or by anybody – is no laughing matter.

Secondly, the Catholic Church and the Pope himself have moved just this week to advance the process of reconciliation with the victims of these crimes. The perpetrators must be brought to justice and that process is, I imagine, now gathering pace after what seems to be a prolonged period of denial and delay.

But the video? It’s just another example of Americans not doing humour.

  3. Alces (310) Says:

    You’re a wee Catholic, aren’t you kiwi?

Better Pope baby fixes the priesthood as a an attractive refuge for kiddy molesters.
There’s your problem……it’s not just the irony deprivation thing.

  4. kiwitoffee (382) Says:

    Alces

I’ll decline your invitation to exchange abuse.

The fact is the Church is dealing with this serious problem. If you think this issue is representative of the role, place and value of the Church then you are much mistaken.

    Yeah right, when??

    Did we hit a nerve?

  6. Alces (310) Says:

    Ok, so you’re a Catholic….vested sensitivity accepted.

It’s your lack of appreciation of a wonderfully sardonic skit that’s more worrying.

I hesistate to recommend “The Life of Brian”.

Do you the world of good.

  7. Alces (310) Says:

    Kiwi..
    Errr….abuse?

What. where,? please quote any factual errors.

  8. Rex Widerstrom (4,529) Says:

No fear of molestation there. They just be strapping dynamite to the kid, trying to con him out of his pocket money, or… being so trite the kid wishes he was in Sunday School, respectively.

There. Now everyone can be offended by this thread and kiwitoffee needn’t feel alone :-D

  9. kiwitoffee (382) Says:

    Steve and Alces

No you haven’t hit a nerve at all.

Criticisms of the Church are predictable, boring and feed off the media’s need to appeal to lowest common denominator instincts.

Let’s agree on one thing: child abuse is a crime and the criminals need to be punished. Pope Benedict, as far as I can tell, is addressing the problem. It was discussed publicly this week during his visit to the US, I think.

My point is that this issue is used to criticise the Church and even religion as a whole and that’s not justified.

  10. Alces (310) Says:

    Let’s agree on one thing….

Religionists care more about their institutions than the criminal sleeze going on inside them.

    You poor bastard.

  11. kiwitoffee (382) Says:

    Rex

Sorry but I don’t feel offended. Really. I’m just pointing out what I see as weakness in the criticisms of the Church.

Oh, hang on, Alces has just referred to me as a ‘poor bastard’. Time to go.

  12. berend (964) Says:

kiwitoffee, paedophilia is a laughing matter, at least with the Roman Catholics. Did something to a kid? Go to Lourdes and God will forgive all your sins. Just a single journey will do. Nice hotels will cater to your every need. Multiple flights a day.

  13. goodgod (1,363) Says:

The funny thing is, it’s not about priests at all. It’s about protecting kids from gays. Oh my lord how homophobic of you David! I’m shocked.

  14. Alces (310) Says:

    kiwi ….

Exactly, that’s how the church dealt with it for 50 years…

Again…any factual errors with the “poor bastard” deal?

  15. side show bob (3,646) Says:

Fuck when are they bringing out the “socialist off”, I would take a gross of them.

  16. Steve (2,168) Says:

You were asked not to watch, but you did kiwitoffee.
It was your choice to watch, it was mine as well.
A little bit of satire about a known problem with the Catholics?
So now you decline and go off in a tangent.

Pope Benedict, as far as you can tell, is addressing the problem. It was discussed publicly this week during his visit to the US, I think.

    You Think?
nah kiwitoffee you cant think, just make an excuse for the abused.
Give me 50 demerits for saying Catholics suck

  17. Buggerlugs (1,609) Says:

I’m a Catholic and will always acknowledge my faith. Nevertheless, the Catholic Church is a fucking disgrace and deserves pisstakes like this. In New Zealand, it has become more of an old boys club (no pun intended) and is rapidly moving towards a left-wing happy clappy existence.

At least in the good old days of the Catholic Mafia you knew where you stood. Now you turn up to Mass and get hounded by fucking Radio Rhema tunes and the hellfire bit flies out the window.

Any priests who don’t toe the party line get pushed out, and don’t even get me started on their now shite schools.

  18. JC (628) Says:

So how do priests line up against, say, rabbis, other Christian denominations and teachers. What are the known or suspected percentages between the groups.

I have a good idea, but how many here do?

    JC

  19. Chris Diack (719) Says:

    Truly weak.

Not only has Pope Benedict XVI publicly spoken of his sense of personal shame regarding the abuse, he has instructed Bishops to meet with the victims as he has done.

He personally met with a handful of victims from the Archdiocese of Boston at the chapel in the residence of Archbishop Pietro Sambi the papal nuncio to Washington, D.C.

You can read about the affect of the meeting on both Benedict and Sambi here:

  20. Fletch (2,365) Says:

Abuse of children by anyone is a terrible thing, let alone priests; however, according to studies, their is higher incidence of abuse of children by family members and even teachers.

According to a survey by the Washington Post, over the last four decades, less than 1.5 percent of the estimated 60,000 or more men who have served in the Catholic clergy have been accused of child sexual abuse.[iv] According to a survey by the New York Times, 1.8 percent of all priests ordained from 1950 to 2001 have been accused of child sexual abuse.[v] Thomas Kane, author of Priests are People Too, estimates that between 1 and 1.5 percent of priests have had charges made against them.[vi] Of contemporary priests, the Associated Press found that approximately two-thirds of 1 percent of priests have charges pending against them.

    And teachers?

The American Medical Association found in 1986 that one in four girls, and one in eight boys, are sexually abused in or out of school before the age of 18. Two years later, a study included in The Handbook on Sexual Abuse of Children, reported that one in four girls, and one in six boys, is sexually abused by age 18.[xxix] It was reported in 1991 that 17.7 percent of males who graduated from high school, and 82.2 percent of females, reported sexual harassment by faculty or staff during their years in school. Fully 13.5 percent said they had sexual intercourse with their teacher.

Family actually has the highest incidence.

I am not trying to excuse wrongdoing, all child-abuse is a terrible thing, but sometimes it helps to put things in perspective.
As Cardinal Theodore McCarrick said when he visited New Zealand back in April 2007 –

“When civil society finally accepts the challenge of making its own statistical survey as carefully and thoroughly as the Catholic Church has, I think we will find that the statistics of the Church are nowhere near as bad as the statistics of the rest of society.”

What about the good job the other 98% of priests are doing, who give their whole lives to service?
The MSM loves to pick on the Church though.

And verily a river of sanctimonious gobshite doth spring forth upon the pages of the gospel of David.

Get over yourselves you god bothering numpty’s.
The Catholic church were forced to face the horrors that were perpetrated on the young in an almost industrial manner over decades. And they worked bloody hard to cover it up and buy silence.
The roman catholic church is all about money and it has been for over a thousand years.

Swap religionists for socialists as well.

Luckily for the socialists it appears they are all much less likely to get prostate cancer than the rest of us though.

As an officially church-sanctified injection of rectal fluid myself, I feel well qualified to comment on this one.

Basically, during my last visit to church, the priest told me that this sort of yucky stuff doesn’t really happen much these days…

I would have looked up at his face and told him I agreed with him, only my mouth was pretty full at the time.

  28. Hoolian (215) Says:

Funny, David! What a great sense of humour you have. Let’s make a total mockery of child abuse and promote it, that way we can all enjoy the anti-Catholic rampage that frequents this blog. Two thumbs up.

Seriously, why didn’t anyone think of this before? Priest-off? How funny it would be if they had a clip about obese-off? Or child-porn-off? I hope they do a series, and include rape-off and molest-off? I hope they continue to trivialise child molestation in any profession/section of society, just to give people an excuse not to take it seriously. Can’t wait for the one when they take the mickey out of the 10-year-old girl who got raped. That one will be a total killer.

DPF, do you have any standards at all?
