Final secret tape due today or tomorrow
November 4th, 2008 at 8:25 am by David FarrarHaving failed with the neutron bomb, I expect the final secret tape recording to be released to the media today or tomorrow. The rumour is it is of John Key. The last one was merely Bill English saying it is good to win elections, so not sure whether or not it will be in that vein or not.
It is worth remembering the context of these tape recordings. A Keystone Kop infiltrated a social cocktail function and lied to a number of MPs pretending to be a Young National. He advocated policy positions he did not believe in, trying to get the MPs to agree with him through sympathy so it would look like some sinister secret agenda.
MPs get pestered non stop at these social functions by party activists on various issues, and of course you tend to look for the merit of someone’s proposal rather than tell a party member and volunteer that their idea is fucking stupid.
My suggestion, for what it is worth, is that the media should demand the full tape recording from Mr Keystone Kop. Let people hear exactly the words he used to solicit a response, so any comments from the MP can be heard in context. Also to make sure that the full response from the MP is included, not just an extract that leaves out a vital part.

I’ve heard that the tape of Key is very, very damaging. It includes confessions that his favourite breakfast food is “babies on toast”, that he set fire to Michael Jackson’s hair, and that his favourite hobby is “pushing over elderly people”.
I can’t see National recovering from those revelations.

I have a preview of this secret tape:
Extract One:
BILL ENGLISH: “Forsooth, Mary, you’re a hot piece of trim. I’d love to drag you into that broom closet rip off your [inaudible], and [expletive omitted] like P-crazed possums. Go ask John and Bronagh if they’d be up for a foursome. No I haven’t had enough to drink.”
Extract Two:
JOHN KEY: “I guess I was mildly pro the Trojan War, but I was far too busy dating Penelope of Ithica to really pay much attention. And if I had to make a choice, I’d definitely go gay for Achillies.”
Extract Three:
Vote:MAURICE WILLIAMSON: “What do you mean it’s a fucking cash bar?”

Whatever is on the tape will only work against them. The trouble is they are to thick to understand this.
My concern is how we have developed so many New Zealanders that think the Green reds are an acceptable party.
Both Labour and the Greens are trying their very best to destroy a great Nations and to date have been very successful at it.
Our problem is the media gives no coverage to genuine sensible alternatives like The Family Party. http://www.familyparty.org.nz
Check them out, read their policies they are certainly advocating a direction that most NZ’s I talk to want to head in.
Just a pity they are not given a fair go at getting their message out! And we call this a democracy. Yeah Right!!

DPF is right, that IS what the media should do if they had a shred of honesty and objectivity.
The Nats need a few lessons from Lord Ashcroft on how to teach the media a lesson. You don’t HAVE to put up with their biases and their slimy little partisan activities and their outright frame-ups (like what they did to Don Brash). Trouble is, DPF and Murray McCully and all the rest of you is, if you let them get away with it once, and twice, and thrice…….if you ley them get away with it with Don Brash, you are asking to have them get away with it with your NEXT leader too, and the one after, and the one after. Somewhere along the line, you are going to have to realise that you’ve got nothing to lose by taking these bastards on head on in court and getting substantial damages awarded and getting guilty journos sacked and even jailed. Just ask Lord Ashcroft, if he didn’t tell you when he was out here recently.

Lindsay Addie said: “I heard that on the tape he confesses he did shout at his wife once, back in 1982″.
That is the rumour they are running with, but if you listen carefully, he is referring to the last time that he shouted her dinner before they got joint accounts. Labour misinterpreted it, hence Helen’s reference in the 1st leaders debate, and the coming shout-bomb…
…is bomb the new gate?…

The media always let Clark have a free ride. Remember when Don Brash got filmed wobbling a bit on a gang plank and they played it over and over, with the tone of commentary being that he was awkward he was and therefore couldl not be a PM. Helen falls flat on her face in a mall and there is practically nothing mentioned about it other than “the PM tripped over”.

There is one forgotten victim in this new “secret recordings” phenomenon in NZ politics.
The possibility of a “secret tapping” being “secretly taped” and then released to the media will surely be the death knell for cottaging by a spouse of a major NZ political figure. How will he be able to trust his new-found chum with this possibility looming…will performance anxiety spoil the whole “romantic” interlude?
Then again, the men’s rest rooms at LAX, Hagley Park etc will become safe again for non-cottaging users…which goes to prove that every cloud has a silver lining.

He had to shout to be heard over the sound of a low flying hovering F***ing great helicopter that had a weird bloke leaning out the door with a megaphone exhorting the local peasantry to do something unspeakable with their boats (or was that their votes?). Anyway it had something to do with tickling their foxes (or it could have been ticking their boxes I’m not certain). It was quite a to-do I’m telling you.

Free to slander? Oh right, you two are leftist barbarians: manners, style, professionalism, standards…the truth, you’re not interested in that.
the way you stop the press slandering is you take them to court to back up their claims or be sued. It’s very simple and it ensures a “free press”.

One of the tapes is of Maurice Williamson.
Interviewer: Maurice, what do you think of the credit crunch?

The other is of Lockwood Smith.

“Phil,
How would a political party go about not letting the media get away with it?”
Ryan, I said that they need a few lessons from Lord Ashcroft. I suggest you read Lord Ashcroft’s book, “Dirty Politics, Dirty Times” to see what I mean.
It requires deep pockets like Lord Ashcroft has, and teams of high powered lawyers, and expensive lawsuits, taken against demostrably dirty reporting. The status quo involves a lot of kow-towing to the media in the hope that they might not treat you so dirty forever. That is a forlorn hope where “conservatives” are concerned.
The Ashcroft approach has resulted in a lot more careful handling of the Tories in England by the media there, and is probably the main factor in the Tories getting back in the political race of late, after years of some of the best leadership material England could have had (William Hague, Michael Howard, Iain Duncan Smith) getting hounded into oblivion over trifles and non-issues, while Labour got a free pass on much worse stuff. Does that sound like a familiar situation by any chance?

Helen: ‘I always said [click] that the purpose of the Electoral Finance Act is[click] to remove [click] cancerous and corrosive[click] Exclusive [click] haters and wreckers [click] Brethren [click] from the Pacific.”
Piece of cake.
