Colin Peacock interviewing NBR’s editor Neville Gibson on Radio NZ Mediawatch this morning seemed to be laying into Gibson for suggesting mainstream media was pro-Labour.
I find Peacock fairly consistently left leaning. Talking to Neville this morning Peacock slipped in a “Hollow Man” reference, for example.
Has Peacock done anything in the media apart from being a state-financed critic? A more minor quibble is the way he sometimes says “thee” for “the”. Do you think he has a Quaker background?
Ugh, David, you added more trackers and such to the blog? I am blocking most stuff in Firefox, but I can’t load the blog anymore on my iPhone. Must take too long to load em all, or they stall out or something…
and then think about the fact that these people (journalists so called) set themselves up as arbitrators of what is right and good. Another arrogant left wing Bush bashing fuckwit posing as an intellectual bites the dust. Jezuz the NZ media is a disgrace.
I remember Noelle McCarthy from her 95BFM beginnings. I protested then at her ridiculous make-the-story-up-as-you-go methods, but found that her, umm, we’ll call them “bosses” were in love with the sound of her voice and didn’t much care about the veracity of what it said. She became more shrill, more extreme and more shameless in displaying her bias from that point on. At the same time, the station began running ad’s about how professionally investigative and indispensible their news team were, while those who had any spark of proffessionalism slipped off air.
Interesting now to see how those same “bosses” have ended up – one doing narrative for “The Zoo” TV series. And who could forget Russell Brown, now waffling his completely unbias days away on Public Address.
It’s always interesting to look back and see the turning points where the beginnings of professionalism is held in an organisation’s hands and then is usually thrown away in favour of sentimentalism.
Her VP nomination acceptance speech was amazing, energizing and excited millions. She was sharp, wholesome, down to earth, boldly conservative and beautiful. Then, the liberal media, blatantly committed to getting Obama elected, set out to destroy her. “Sarah Palin is stupid” was their mantra. Every late night talk show host, biased liberal TV interviewer, biased liberal newspaper reporter and democrat talking head united to create the paradigm, “Palin is an idiot”.
Suddenly, every word out of Sarah’s mouth was under severe scrutiny. Who could survive such a tsunami of attacks on their intellect? Meanwhile, Obama saying the US has 57 states barely drew a mention.
Even the National Organization for Women did not defend Palin. Her Conservative traditional values do not fit their liberal agenda. Palin chose to have her Down Syndrome baby rather than abort it. Sarah proved that a woman can have a thriving family and successful career. She loves and respects her husband without feeling subservient to him. All this rubs the NOW gang the wrong way. But what REALLY ticks them off, Sarah Palin is pretty.
What liberals did to this great woman was vicious and mean. And yet, liberals are perceived as the advocates of women and minorities. Here is the reality. If you’re black and become a U.S. Supreme Court Justice via education and hard work rather than Affirmative Action, liberals try to destroy you. If you’re a strong woman running for Vice President of the United States, they seek to destroy you for not subscribing to their left ideology.
When will folks “GET IT!” Liberals don’t give a hoot about women or minorities. They only worship at the feet of their gods which are Power and Control.

What an unbelievable job Wayne Bennett did with those Polynesians.
I was thinking that an Australian as Minister of Pacific Island Affairs might be a good idea.
Her VP nomination acceptance speech was amazing, energizing and excited millions.
Yes, because the script was written for her, all she had to do was perfom, and what a performance she put on.
Once she had to say her own words, once she was left with a journalist and no script writer, the facade that was sarah palin collapsed rapidly.
The GOP chaose her, and in so choosing, exposed just how limited their talent banks are. She was wheeled out, she was shot down in flames, and she has slunk back to obscurity. Get over it.
“The GOP chaose her, and in so choosing, exposed just how limited their talent banks are. She was wheeled out, she was shot down in flames, and she has slunk back to obscurity. Get over it.”
I really do think that says it all. The Repubs were on a hiding to nothing.
Palins candicacy was all they had to throw against Obama and after 8 years of Bush, she was a joke.
At local level she has an impressive record. she wasn’t ready for this and probably never will be.
Being one eyed about her is embarrassing yourself. But once McCain said “We have him where we want him”
I knew it was all over. he reminded me strongly of Goerrings assertion that the allies would not bomb Germany.
I thought Sarah Palin did well she more than matched the experienced BIDEN. Obama is only impressive when he lets loose with prepared oratory when asked direct questions he seems insecure and bumbling. Hilary on the other hand is a consumate politician and it will be interesting to see whether her light as secretary of state outshines that of her master.
“Yes, because the script was written for her, all she had to do was perfom, and what a performance she put on. Once she had to say her own words, once she was left with a journalist and no script writer, the facade that was sarah palin collapsed rapidly.”
You communists are such hate driven jokes. Everything you say is so full of holes, it merely shows that as so many people claim, leftism is a mental disease.
All politicians have their speeches written for them. Joe Biden plagiarises his. The prompter broke down during Palin’s speech and she delivered a large part from memory. When Obama’s prompter similarly malfunctioned, he stuttered like an idiot and couldn’t continue until it was repaired. Its not as if Palin sat in another room while the speech was prepared. Of course she would have had major input. No speechwriter imbued her with the poise, humor, experience, grace, and savvy that made her speech such a success. She has not sunk back into obscurity but has been offered a multi-million dollar book deal and will probably lead the Republican ticket in 2012. See? You’re just full of left wing bullshit. Pre-programmed left wing smears and talking points. Just another empty headed commie dipshit and you should consider yourself lucky your whining mindless worthless rubbish gets noticed.
“As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where– where do they go? It’s Alaska. It’s just right over the border.” –Sarah Palin, explaining why Alaska’s proximity to Russia gives her foreign policy experience, interview with CBS’s Katie Couric, Sept. 24, 2008 (Watch video clip)
“The liberal policy-makers have had their day and their way – and they have failed.
Nia Glassie and Duwayne Pailegutu are dead because of them and their policies. There is blood on their hands – and it is children’s blood. They protect the feckless, criminal, stupid underclass by encouraging them to breed, refusing to hold them to account, assuming that “education” is the answer, and thinking that placing at-risk children in the wider “whanau” is a solution”
More cackling from another empty headed communist hyena.
Alaska is the first line of defense in the US missile interceptor defense system. The 49th Missile Defense Battalion of the Alaska National Guard, of which Palin is Commander in Chief, is the unit that protects the entire USA from ballistic missile attacks. It’s on permanent active duty, unlike other Guard units. As governor of Alaska, Palin is briefed on highly classified military issues, homeland security, and counter-terrorism. Without a doubt, her exposure to classified material is far more extensive than Joe Biden’s.
She’s also the commander in chief of the Alaska State Defense Force (ASDF), a federally recognized militia incorporated into Homeland Security’s counter-terrorism plans. Palin is privy to military and intelligence secrets that are vital to the entire country’s defense. Given Alaska’s proximity to Russia Palin no doubt has extremely high level security clearances, and that is what she was referring to you gormless left wing media suckholing pinhead.
“Maj. Gen. Craig Campbell, adjutant general of the Alaska National Guard, considers Palin “extremely responsive and smart” and says she is in charge when it comes to in-state services, such as emergencies and natural disasters where the National Guard is the first responder.
But, in an interview with The Associated Press on Sunday, he said he and Palin play no role in national defense activities, even when they involve the Alaska National Guard. The entire operation is under federal control, and the governor is not briefed on situations.”
good god lloydois, looks like you’ve unmasked yoursel as another communist and no doubt part of the great liberal media conspiracy.
I wonder who redfrightened thinks the “liberal media” is. Fox? NBC? Time? My gosh, Rupert Murdoch is a commie? Say it isn’t so.
redfrightened’s biggest problem is fear – fear of the democratic process, the market place of ideas and the general intelligence of the elctorate, no matter how much he and his ilk have tried to destroy public education by turning it into a worker factory.
“But, in an interview with The Associated Press on Sunday, he said he and Palin play no role in national defense activities,”
Associated Press. You see, this is whyt you leftists are such dumbfucks. You read something from AP and run so gormelessly with it, when we on the right know that 99.99% of what AP writes from a political viewpoint is skewered to the left, so we take it with a grain of salt and then seek out the truth for ourselves.
From Craig Campbell’s own biography-
He is responsible to provide Army and Air National Guard military forces, a State Defense Force, and a Navy Militia that are fully prepared to protect Alaska from any threat, disaster, or emergency. He is also responsible to ensure that Alaska’s National Guard forces are ready to deploy worldwide and accomplish military missions in support of the national defense strategy. As Adjutant General and Commissioner for the State of Alaska, he is responsible for emergency services, homeland security, veteran affairs, a Counter-Drug Support Team, a Civil Support Team, and a Youth Challenge Program.
He also said this-
“I’ll tell you, in the last few days, I’ve been watching the press, and I’ve not been very pleased with what I’ve been seeing about the chastising of the National Guard by having it diminished by the insinuation that a commander-in-chief of the National Guard doesn’t really control the military. The National Guard has 500,000 people in it around this great country, serving in states and overseas. National Guards are state military forces run by governors, and Sarah Palin does it great.”
She’s even been to Kuwait on a training exercise. with the Guard The AP report is just more left wing media bias, pandering to pinheaded left wing idiots like you, and as usual, you’re sucked right in by it. Gormless knuckle dragger.
Now bring on the chimpanzee like wittering about he only did it to get the promotion. More unsubstantiated left wing crap. You freedom hating commie jerks are so predictable about all you’re good for is a bag of peanuts.
Hey dickwad, save your sad attempts to be funny for your left wing looney bin mates. Get off the computer and back to your basket weaving. I never look at leftist links, and anyway, the idea that communist scum like you should be spared anger is rapidly getting out of date loser. Wake up. We’re coming after you totalitarian ignoramuses.
Nope, its ignorant propagandizing communist knuckle draggers like you, bit by bit by bit reducing my choices and freedoms and incrementally destroying democracy with your hate driven smears against Sarah Palin or anyone who ever challenges your sick socialist ideas.
Redbaiter, better ease up those kilobytes… you might exceed your data cap and i dont think your welfare check will stretch to cover the cost. And then we would all be the poorer for the loss of your balanced and insightful commentary on this site
PS: I am sorry that your party vote for the Bill and Ben Party was wasted…
Please don’t presume to order me about you mental midget. I’ll use whatever kilobytes I choose, and its got fuck all to do with ill mannered poorly educated drop kicks like you.
“i dont think your welfare check”
and this attempted smear that leaves no doubt about your own cowardly ignorance, is supported by what evidence?
“And then we would all be”
“We all”???
Please specify who from this site has assigned you the right to express opinions on their behalf. If you cannot provide such IDs, I suggest you go see a psychiatrist and tell him you’re suffering from multiple personality disorder and delusions of grandeur/ megalomania. Don’t be embarrassed to admit it, there’s a lot of your kind out there suffering the same brain damage.
hmmmm, lets see
“ill mannered” and “smear”. Now who does that remind me of….
“Hey dickwad”; “ignorant propagandizing communist knuckle draggers like you”; “such dumbfucks”; “gormless left wing media suckholing pinhead”; “Just another empty headed commie dipshit”; “Bush bashing fuckwit”
charming stuff. Written by a true and erudite gentleman
As if a communist like you would know what a gentleman was. A representative of the most cruel and vicious ideology mankind has ever had to bear. A knuckle dragging loser whose forte is false allegations and smears of the type that have been used by every left wing monster from Joe Stalin to Mao to the totalitarian scum that govern China today. A jack booted ignoramus with a head full of the same contempt for humanity as the SS who bayoneted the Jews into the cattle cars during WWII. I know what you are dirtbag. You’re the face of totalitarianism, and all you’ve ever got is the same old same old tyrannical obsession to discredit your political opponents. You haven’t even tried an argument now in three posts.
To change topic, Matthew Hooton in this morning’s SST suggests that New Zealand should establish a non-elected Senate of the great and the good as a check against “bad policy”. He cites Ed Hillary and Peter Blake as examples of the sort of person who he would see as a Senator (pity they are both dead, but I guess he decided not to embarrass any living person by nominating them).
As with MMP, this idea continues the theme that there is a way of selecting wise people to govern us well.
Writing over 200 years ago in the Federalist Papers, James Madison told us that the root problem is that any method of selecting people to govern ends up selecting people to govern, with all their frailties and flaws:
“If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself. A dependence on the people is, no doubt, the primary control on the government; but experience has taught mankind the necessity of auxiliary precautions.”
Those “auxiliary provisions” include, in the case of the US: a federal structure; the separation of powers; checks and balances and, perhaps above all, the protections in the Bill of Rights and the other amendments to the Constitution (like the 14th, 15th and 19th).
The sooner we have a bill of rights in New Zealand preserving the right to free expression, privacy and property, the sooner will will have to stop mucking around with electoral systems.
I wonder who redfrightened thinks the “liberal media” is. Fox? NBC? Time? My gosh, Rupert Murdoch is a commie?
“Liberal media bias” is an invention of arsewipes like you and your bum buddie Rush Limbaugh because you HATE democracy and freedom. You then hide behind your media power and claim to be the victim, all the time creating new victims with your failed policies of the past.
Right wing trollops like you and your post turtle Palin stand against everything that is good about humanity.
What’s to respond to? The worthless assertions of some brain damaged commie retard that have been discredited so many times only someone severely intellectually handicapped would care to write them here again. Who cares?
What a pity that the point you make – which is one that needs nailing to the masthead of every publication in the country, supplemented by a bit of subliminal advertising during the soaps, so as to get it through to the majority – is lost amongst the usual “you’re a commie”, “no, you’re a fascist” general debate. I hope you’ll take the opportunity to repeat the point in future.
Hooton is deluded if he thinks there’s anyone “angelic” enough (to borrow from Madison) to rule without tending to despotism in some degree. What’s more, peddling such superficially appealing nonsense risks having people agree that, yes, they’ll slump in front of the telly and go on letting other people make their decisions for them, thanks.
He seems to be hankering for some sort of benign dictatorship, but suggesting we needn’t worry because the dictators won’t be politicians, they will have climbed a mountain or sailed a boat.
In fact that makes them no better nor worse than John Key or Phil Goff and certainly no more or less prone to hubris and corruption – but it does suggest their interests and talents lie elsewhere.
You’re right, of course, that the answer is a proper, enforceable Bill of Rights (and perhaps a Constitution). It’s something we to force onto the agenda of the promised review of MMP.
I’m with you redbaiter.
Thought the commentary both professional and from leftytrefties was vacous and vicious in the fundie religious sense.
She’s a straight talker and they don’t know what that is.
let alone how to deal with it.
Sadly McCain was a chump and I have a sneaking suspicion that he didn’t want to win, as he didn’t do all that he could early enough.
If I’d been him I would have turned up at the first TV speech with my birth certificate held it up and asked to see OB1’s.
At the second if he didn’t have his with him, I would have walked off stage.
Palin would have, as she has the balls too and isn’t just a mouthpiece.
it may well be that OB1 has a legal ID.
Then again, well that makes an interesting conundrum doesn’t it.
Wonder if the boys at Langley are working overtime to get it all right for him.
The Senate passed a resolution confirming that he is a “natural born Citizen” under Article II, Section 1, of the Constitution, on the grounds when he was born at the Coco Solo Naval Air Station in the Panama Canal Zone, Panama, the Canal was under U.S. control and that his father was on active service overseas. But it was always possible that if the result was close, someone would have challenged his nomination on the grounds that he was, in fact, an illegal alien!!

“hey Redbaiter,”
Hey dickwad, save your sad attempts to be funny for your left wing looney bin mates. Get off the computer and back to your basket weaving. I never look at leftist links, and anyway, the idea that communist scum like you should be spared anger is rapidly getting out of date loser. Wake up. We’re coming after you totalitarian ignoramuses.

“redfrightened’s biggest problem is fear”
Nope, its ignorant propagandizing communist knuckle draggers like you, bit by bit by bit reducing my choices and freedoms and incrementally destroying democracy with your hate driven smears against Sarah Palin or anyone who ever challenges your sick socialist ideas.
November 23rd, 2008 at 2:18 pm
Redbaiter, better ease up those kilobytes… you might exceed your data cap and i dont think your welfare check will stretch to cover the cost. And then we would all be the poorer for the loss of your balanced and insightful commentary on this site
PS: I am sorry that your party vote for the Bill and Ben Party was wasted…

“Redbaiter, better ease up those kilobytes… ”

“And then we would all be”
“We all”???
Please specify who from this site has assigned you the right to express opinions on their behalf. If you cannot provide such IDs, I suggest you go see a psychiatrist and tell him you’re suffering from multiple personality disorder and delusions of grandeur/ megalomania. Don’t be embarrassed to admit it, there’s a lot of your kind out there suffering the same brain damage.

“Written by a true and erudite gentleman”

Hey, redface, no response here I see.

“Hey, redface, no response here I see.”
What’s to respond to? The worthless assertions of some brain damaged commie retard that have been discredited so many times only someone severely intellectually handicapped would care to write them here again. Who cares?

““Liberal media bias” is an invention of arsewipes like you and your bum buddie Rush Limbaugh because you HATE democracy and freedom.”
what country are you in Jack?
Did you know the EFB was a communist bill to supplant democracy and freedom in New Zealand and they lost the elections.
Now they’ve turned face and don’t want it.
who ever you are, you are not relevant to this country and therefore this blog.
November 23rd, 2008 at 6:49 pm
Of course, why didn’t I see it? The EFA was another creation of the liberal media. Boy, they sure are powerful.
November 23rd, 2008 at 6:58 pm
Of course MyNameisWack, the liberal media are very good at influencing the moronic mass of people. The new world has bullshit as its median.

georgebolwing:

“Operation: Destroy Sarah Palin”

Turpin:
McCain was born in Panama!!!!!

Rex
Don’t worry, Madison’s quote is dear to my heart and I am sure that I will have ample opportunity to repeat it in the months ahead.
