God fearing citizens sidle down the footpaths of NZ clutching man hole covers to their arses as gangs of newly emboldened gays seeking marriage hunt their prey. Parks & streets throughout the land are a sea of KY Jelly & shitty condoms.
In the midst of this depravity who can save us? Andrei, kowtow, Reid, Fletch, Redbaiter? Where are you?
Clearly, there are serious questions to be asked about New Zealand’s economic policy and how we got into this mess. Why was it not better designed and managed, and more focussed, coordinated and strategic? Did the electorate simply get what it voted for, without realising what was really happening, or have New Zealanders not been well served over the years?
Underlining the current difficult situation, the government is spending at an unsustainable level and running large deficits (the opposite of saving). As a result, it is borrowing a hefty $300 million a week. It needs to return the Budget to a surplus of no less than 2% of GDP as soon as possible.
Looking ahead over the next 20 years or so, the government will face increasing costs from the effects of an ageing population. If the government is to keep its borrowing within a sustainable level (as it must) over this period, its options are to: substantially increase tax revenue, reduce government spending, or increase government sector productivity and performance. The first two options are clearly unpalatable. However, modelling shows that if the government can lift its performance and increase productivity by 2% a year for five years and 1% thereafter, there would be no need to raise taxes or cut government services. The SWG strongly recommends this.
On other government policy issues, SWG recommendations include:
- A much more strategic and integrated approach to policy generally.
- Serious consideration of the impact of the level and variability of immigration on national saving, and the impact that this might have on the living standards of New Zealanders. There are indications that our high immigration rate has pushed up government spending, house prices and business borrowing.
- Improving data on household and business saving.
“Property Council chief executive Connal Townsend said debate about the future ownership of the 16 Crafar dairy farms appeared to have tapped a racist vein, when the real issue was New Zealand’s willingness to value its own landholdings and provide certainty to people who can commit capital, generate local employment, and encourage economic growth.
“The Greens’ private members bill restricting, in other words banning, all sales of farm land of more than 5 hectares to an overseas investor was defeated last week by two votes.

Interesting thread on Whale Oil, where Redbaiter’s consistent theme of a National Party that has lost its ideological way seems to be gaining momentum, with many commenters supporting this POV.
Read it and weep Davinci (and other frantically obsessed deniers).
I see that Cullen gets a gong and FIGJAM Simon Power gets a QSO why don’t we give out awards to those that deserve them. Every year Malvina Major gets another bloody title, what for? Can’t be for entertainment.
“Clearly, there are serious questions to be asked about New Zealand’s economic policy and how we got into this mess.”
Yes, especially when one compares it to Singapore-
“no foreign debt, government surpluses every year since 1995, very stable economy that weathered the GFC and in 2010 was fastest-growing economy in the world. The 2011 budget surplus was US$2.3 billion, Singapore is now the third wealthiest nation on the planet, ”
(from the link I posted above)
But then Singapore isn’t full of brain fucked liberals like New Zealand is.
Interesting thread on Whale Oil, where Redbaiter’s consistent theme of a National Party that has lost its ideological way..
Impossibe. It cannot be. I deny it.
National, aka Labour lite, is a true bastion of the right, an advocate of freedom, individual responsibility, and free enterprise.
Our brave and enlightened party has never lost its way and continues to lead NZ towards an advanced stage of development thanks to its alliance with the forward-thinking Maori Party.
The Singapore state is the nations biggest landlord:
“One government agency manages 80 percent of the housing stock — all called public housing. It checks your age and whether you’re married to decide whether and when you’re eligible for an apartment. It decides what you’ll pay to occupy your flat, which local services will (or won’t) be provided. It even checks your ethnicity — every housing area has a set balance among the leading local ancestries — Chinese, Malay and Indian.
So unless you’re affluent enough to own a private home — and few Singaporeans are — the government’s Housing and Development Board is your all-powerful landlord. Ignore its rules and you’re out in the cold.” http://citiwire.net/columns/a-nation-of-public-housing/
Redbaiter – National voted 30 to 29 to support the Labour Party and the far left progressive lesbian Louisa Wall. These 30 politicians supported the lie that this was about “marriage equality” and continued to thrust this phrase into the spotlight in support of the propaganda strategies outlined by GayNZ.
It has never been about “marriage equality”, and those National Party politicians who promoted this lie, this utter untruth, this sick propaganda are either totally unprincipled or so gullible they prove themselves to be far too superficial to be representing anybody.
It has never been about “marriage equality”.
What then is it about?
What is the enormous gay movement conspiracy which Reid and Rebaiter see in this that some of us less intelligent morons are missing?
Ask the average Singaporean living here in Auckland and they’ll tell you they got out of Singapore because it’s all turning to shit. There is more that makes a country great than just it’s economy.
Why California Is Suddenly Adding Jobs Faster Than Texas
theory is that California’s economy thrives off housing, while Texas’ runs on oil. And lately, housing’s been on the mend, while oil hasn’t moved much year over year.
Ask the average Singaporean living here in Auckland and they’ll tell you they got out of Singapore because it’s all turning to shit. There is more that makes a country great than just it’s economy.
………
i think countries should aim for a secure ratio of population to natural resources.
Carlos, I know Singaporeans who have come to NZ and then left in disgust at the racism, the violent crime and the social disintegration and the high levels of taxation.
They see this country as a fast collapsing Progressive shit hole.

Redbaiter launches off in the third person. That always rings alarm bells!
I guess Singaporeans are hard to please. Ha ha ha!
Seriously though, I think New Zealand and Singapore are at opposite extremes in some ways. I’m not sure which country in the world has the right balance of strong economy, low crime, low taxes, liberty, good education, etc. Any ideas at to which country has a good balance of these and other factors currently? Monaco?
hj- “i think countries should aim for a secure ratio of population to natural resources.”
Singapore has no natural resources and the same population as NZ.
The real difference is they haven’t ever had a government that has fostered the notion that government exists to provide a free meal ticket to a legion of bludgers (such as Phil Ure and about a million more.)
The real difference is in the head.
The average Singaporean takes pride in providing for himself and his family.
They work. In real jobs.
The average NZer is a government dependent brain fucked Progressive.
Golden Dawn in Sweden..Todays street fights, tomorrows civil war..People join Golden dawn because no one else listens to their concerns re the muslim invasion.

Squealing like a stuck pig does not forward your cause.
It just marginalizes the views of the ultra conservative fundamental Christian community more into permanent irrelevance it deserves
. All ultra conservative Christians should support CCCP the inevitable hypocrisy, dishonesty and sectional infighting inherent in the combination of weird Christian beliefs so contained will do more to destroy a religious motivated political future then than any thing progressive liberals could do.Then rest of the country can continue its 170year record of being at the forefront of liberal PROGRESSIVE reform World wide without giving weight to the views of the few thousand archaic weirdos of chistiandom
BHudson- You’re right, Solid Energy did waste millions on clearly uneconomic Watermelon promoted projects.
So too did the National Party Blue Green stalwart Nick Smith, who ran around the country buying votes with taxpayer money and handing out millions in “grants” to the same sort of uneconomic bullshit industries.
We don’t hear what happened to these companies Smith gave this money to.
Another clear example of National Party betrayal of its founding principles-
“To promote good citizenship and self-reliance; to combat communism and socialism; to maintain freedom of contract; to encourage private enterprise; to safeguard individual rights and the privilege of ownership; to oppose interference by the State in business, and State control of industry”.
Smith is just another left wing infiltrator of National and like so many of his political colleagues, he should be in the Labour Party.

And they’re right.
So when ya leaving Red?
Whilst I agree with a lot of the things you bang on about you forget to point out that all the grass is not green in places like Singapore. They have little democratic freedom and I guess that would suit your ambitions to control, which is really your hallmark.
Muldoon tried that and it didn’t work.
We may not be the best Nation on Earth but show me one better. Show me one where you can go on like this and not get jailed.
Smith is just another left wing infiltrator of National….
I share this opinion and have it expressed myself many times before.
Nick Smith, the ETS co-father, is an utter disgrace and should be expelled from Labour lite.
@Griff
So what is your definition of “ultra conservative Christain” ?
Anyone who doesn’t denigh the deity of Christ and doesn’t fully completely and totally support all aspects of humanism?
Seriously dude you need to deal with your problem. Your foaming at the mouth hatred of Christians with Christian values needs therapy.
You really need to read about, “How to win Friends and Influence People ‘ Red.
If you think for one second that your tirades make a friend or bring people to your view you are deluded. Which is probably right.
Get up and go or a walk along the beach. Toss a stone in the tide and see what happens. It sinks just like your vitriolic responses to everyone.
You don’t and won’t make a difference except in your own deluded mind by treating others in that way.
Funnily enough I seem to recall having this conversation before, which proves the old adage that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.
If you keep doing the same thing why would you expect different results.
Now go exercise you legs instead of what you appear to use for a brain.
“Show me one where you can go on like this and not get jailed.”
Another cave dwelling retard full of decades old left wing bullshit. Read some Singaporean message boards you fucking sad uninformed loser.
“If you think for one second that your tirades make a friend or bring people to your view you are deluded. Which is probably right.”
A lie. Read some of my comments on Whaleoil that receive wide support, with one achieving almost 50 likes. Stop lying you cave dwelling retard. Its you that is isolated with your retarded decades old POV.
Fucking cave dwelling retard full of tired old left wing shit you are.
What stops people leaving Singapore?
What makes so many people immigrate there?
You sad fucking hopeless retard.
Quoted for laughs. You SHOULD be angry, the country is rejecting your obsolete homophobic worldview and moving on.
BTW – ever noticed how much “fun” people from Singapore are?
They all seem afraid of putting a foot wrong, lest they get arrested by the cops and shot.
I suppose if you’re a rancid old oligarch who just wants to sit in his counting-house, counting out his money it would be a good place to be.
I think Redbaiter make some very good points. When I was living in Auckland we had a family from Singapore in our church. He had just got a job working at the local service station. He said to me how amazed he was that people were coming in, filling up their cars, and leaving without paying. It was just amazing to him how often that happened because it obviously does not happen in Singapore.
But for my few cents worth, if we want less government and more freedom we are going exactly the wrong way. The government has now told us what marriage is. They have taken it upon themselves to fundamentally redefine an institution that has been one way for time immemorial and very soon will be another way, just because they say it is. That is the state fundamentally redefining a major institution of human society. If they can do that, who knows what else they might do?
The government also wants to tell you how big your showerheads should be, what lunches your children should eat at school, they will definitely be pushing the rainbow agenda in “health studies” at high school for your children, how your swimming pool should be fenced etc, etc. If you want government in every area of your life then you should vote national or labour. There appears to be no difference. I see National has a plan to phase out smoking by 2025 or somesuch nonsense. Who elected them to do that?
What we need is less government and more community groups and other organisations such as churches and service clubs. These are the little platoons that make up society and make up community.
We also need stronger families. One of the reasons we have weak families is that government has deprived them of function. Breakup with your spouse? No worries – the government will give you an emergency housing and the domestic purposes benefit ?
Even community initiatives are being taken over by government, like churches and other volunteers providing breakfast at schools for hungry children. This is a local initiative in many communities throughout New Zealand that requires no taxpayer money. Now the children’s Commissioner wants to spend $5 billion on a government program to fund breakfast in schools. That’s $5 billion of your tax payers money. That’s the government taking over the role of parents and giving children breakfast.
We desperately need a Conservative party in the New Zealand Parliament to stop this madness. Because government needs to do a lot less and become a lot more humble.
Never mind Baiter Boy….some of us have a smidgeon of sympathy for you. It can’t be much fun spending your days in your pensioner flat in front of a computer screen, the only interruptions to constant boredom consisting of pop up ads for penis enlargement & abusing your betters on Kiwiblog.
Why don’t you get a small animal for company? Have it declawed & its teeth pulled so it can’t retaliate.
Mock all you like. No one is claiming it’s the end of the world .
It is not parliament’s role to redefine marriage. It’s that simple.
But your deeply held anti Christian bigotry will not allow you to comment beyond throwing around childish insultsand making stupid comments. Other than that there is very little contribution from you on any topic.
Redsue would be incarcerated without trail indefinitely
Singapore takes 35% of salaries to finance a state investment fund run by the prime minister’s wife The government controls companies responsible for 60% of gross domestic product and 85% of its citizens live in public housing And is a country with stringent restrictions on the media and public information, limits on freedom of expression and assembly, and courts that help perpetuate the domination of the only ruling party the country has ever known
In 2010, Singapore was ranked in the last position among high-income countries for “fundamental rights” and “open government”, by the World Justice Project Rule of Law Index
Freedom in the World 2010: ranked Singapore 5 out of 7 for political freedom, and 4 out of 7 for civil liberties (where 1 is the most free), with an overall ranking of “partly free”.
The World Audit on corruption, democracy and freedom of press: ranked Singapore 69th for democracy, and 111th for freedom of press.
The Economist: Democracy Index 2007, ranked 82 out of 167 countries[
Reporters Without Borders: Worldwide Press Freedom Index 2009: ranked 133 out of 175 countries
Yes, I am not a Conservative party supporter as such for a number of reasons but I predict their popularity will rise considerably by the next election. People I talk to have had enough of the incessant liberalism, interesting.
I believe the Conservative Party will grow in popularity, mainly at the expense of National.
If I was a Right Winger, I’d start to look carefully at the Conservative Party list and ensure there are decent candidates. The last thing you want is an ACT or Christian Heritage repeat.
There is a small chance National/Conservatives/NZ First or Maori may just get there in 2014. National will have to make sure they don’t slip too far below 45% support. Under 42% would spell disaster for the Right.
No,you rarely comment on other religions and like your mates jump in with glee almost exclusively on Christian matters. Deny away.
You’re very good at making fun of others, but judging by most of your contributions, which are usually anti Christian or racist jokes, trawled from the internet and then regurgitated here you leave the impression of a fellow trying hard to prove he has a sense of humour when in fact you’re a sad unimaginative bigot.
In fact Kluelessgreg, I’ve made plenty of points today, and the only time I’ve been drawn off them is in responding to oxygen thieves like you, the kind who are too retarded to grasp any point anyway.
“you (nasska) leave the impression of a fellow trying hard to prove he has a sense of humour when in fact you’re a sad unimaginative bigot.”
Well said and spot on. In fact its a comment that applies equally well to most of the cowardly liberals/ progressives here who constantly and falsely claim majority support.
Kowtow
No one is claiming it’s the end of the world .
Reid and Andrei are no one then?
lance why dont you vote CCCP
because they are to extreme in their ultra conservative Christian views?
or is it that you know the hypocrisy will out eventually just like it did with Christian heritage?
I think the conservative party will grow in popularity until the next time Colin Craig goes large with a comment about how kiwi women are all promiscuous sluts or something like that. He might grow his party to the size of NZ First but that is it, the man is just too loose to really gain widespread support.
As long as Labour remain in disarray, there is a large pool of disaffected voters who used to be Labour but were more centre left than extreme left, who should be easy pickings for National. I reckon National support for gay marriage, keeping the interest off student loans anda few other things like that could really convert a lot of these people to the blue team.
OR National could go right, and really energise all the militant left against them in the hope of getting Wedbaiter’s vote and Manolo’s vote back.
John Key is just a sensible straight up business guy, so it’s not surprising to see which way he’s opted to go!
We don’t seem to get a lot of Muslims, Hindus or Mormons on these boards so it’s a little difficult to implement a strict quota system when winding up religious nutters.
“Hamnida (544) Says: August 31st, 2012 at 9:57 am
I believe the Conservative Party will grow in popularity, mainly at the expense of National.”
I agree with you Hamnida. There are people on all sides of the political spectrum who have become disappointed with the ever-increasing role of government and the amount of power they are taking unto themselves.
And of course the other issue is that sooner or later you run out of other people’s money to pay for all of these government programs. I mean this country is borrowing how much a week at the moment to stay solvent? It’s in the billions of dollars I think?
Now imagine if we had responsible parents who were looking after their children. We wouldn’t need domestic purposes benefit and working for families to name but two. That’s probably a few billion dollars of saving right there.
If we didn’t have a children’s commissioner advocating that we spend $5 billion on giving children breakfast. We would say $5 billion plus the children’s commissioner’s salary and his staff salaries. See there’s lots of savings to be made. We could have lower taxes and keep more of the money that we earn. And we wouldn’t end up insolvent like Greece.
Conservative policies for this country and this time I believe deserve our consideration.
Red have you actually spent any time on the ground in Singapore? I lived there for 3 years, and as an economist I feel a little qualified to comment. Singapore won through location – open borders for trade. Land at Changi, and you see the boats waiting to go. As an international transport hub that tiny island has boomed – but with such restrictive laws that even hard boiled socialists shudder.
But that’s ok with you – everyone lined up if the laws are ok’d by you, right? No gum, flush the toilet or be fined. It’s the most boring place to live ever. Try buying a car, getting your own house, you name it.
You’ve redefined your own stupidity by telling us how great this corrupt little country is. Look to the first family for proof of that, and your average Singaporean knows it all too well. As do the whores in the five floors of whores hotel. If its so fucking awesome, when you off compadre?
You can tell when Wedbaiter’s got no comback, he just smears (and swears) instead.
So you haven’t been in Singapore Wedbaiter, and as usual you’re just talking theoretical shit you’ve picked up on some Hurr durr! I hate rag heads, love freedom and my shotgun! website…?
Retard, I’ve got better things to do than respond seriously to the shit you write here. Where the fuck would any sane person draw the conclusion I have never been to Singapore? In fact I’ve lived there on and off quite frequently. Just go away you obsessive stalking bore.
British imperialism and colonialism had everything to do with it. Sinapore wouldn’t exist without that history and that history brings its unique context and laws. “Repressive” laws carried over from the evil white colonial masters who created a wealthy and vibrant city. Along with the hard working Chinese and many other factors.
Corruption is every where. True representative democracy? Where is that? Certainly not New Zealand. It’s a matter of degree.
Scott – I think we start the conversation from different places. I don’t believe New Zealand has a public debt problem. In fact, I believe our level of debt is extremely low by OECD standards. I think the Right try and create a ‘Government debt crisis’ in an attempt to achieve other political goals.
As far as benefits are concerned, I believe if you can not find work in near future, then you have an obligation to undertake further education and training.
There is a positive side to middle class WFF – it encourages them to have more children. You could exchange middle class WFF for an Australian system of one-off payments, say $10,000 per child.
In fact I’ve lived there on and off quite frequently. Just go away you obsessive stalking bore.
An obvious lie. If Singapore is Nirvana and New Zealand is some kind of brain-dead socialist shit hole, then an upwardly-mobile, highly capable champion like you wouldn’t still be here.
Nothing but lies and smears from Wedbaiter, it’s just another beautiful day on the internet…
Believe what you like retard, it what makes you wrong every time.
“And you wonder why people point and giggle?”
Lying again? Can’t you make a post that doesn’t incorporate a smear and a lie? I’ve just pointed out your previous lies in saying no one agrees with me. Plenty of peopel agree with me and more and more people do everyday. Stay bogged in the progressive shit retard. Enjoy yourself.
There’s consistencies and inconsistencies in the New Zealand First approach to referenda.
They say that any conscience vote should go to a referrendum – and asked for that to happen with the marriage bill. But they didn’t seem to make the stand on the alcohol purchase age bill.
And with the marriage bill they were the only party to vote 100% against it – that doesn’t seem to reflect public opinion on the issue, nor does indicate they consulted with the people on it (unless they have ignored the people).
Really? I have never read anything you have written attacking Bhuddism, Islam or Hinduism. I might have missed it of course.
When was the last time we had one of their followers around here arguing a point of politics? Did we hear anything about representatives from those religions lobbying MPs on recent votes?
You can only shoot the targets put in front of you…

“OUCH!. Duncan Garner gets some well-deserved biff for a Wed interview”
A great post as usual on what has become a must read blog.
However I am confused as to why you would also praise Duncan Garner, and also why you would apparently still expect objectivity.
I’m well past that point and over expecting any truth or objectivity from NZ’s media.
They are all working for the Progressive / Marxist political cadre that controls our media and our education system and particularly our journalism schools, where for years now they have been taught to advocate for Progressive political ideas rather than to work as real journalists/ reporters.
That’s what they are.
It’s a denial of reality to ever expect any political fairness or objectivity in reporting when the craft of journalism has over the years been so institutionally and methodically corrupted.
Today’s so called journalists are almost all just political agents. If we can do anything about it it is only to stop reading listening and watching the outlets that employ them. EOS.
Of more interest to me is the disparity in punishment given out by our judiciary
one year jail for 80,000 worth of fraud
if the perpetrator had have defrauded investors of a tens of millions of dollars they would have received a few hundred hours of community service
In this respect our courts have totally lost the plot. There should not be one tire of punishment for the rich and another for the poor
Singapore has always interested me – I have traded with Singaporeans and have had Government Department contacts. There is a huge underground class system, never really acknowledged, as power lies within it.
I was interested to read recently in John R Bradley’s book “After the Arab Spring” where comparisons of a numer of states were reviewed. I quote re Singapore which I find succint.
“The problem with the Singapore model of governance – restricting political freedoms for security and the greater economic good – that it only works if the ruling elite, and above all the man at the helm, leads by example, avoiding the temptations offerred by high office and near total control of the political apparatus”.
Singapore v’s NZ makes for interesting comparisons. In NZ people throw their chewing gum in the urinal and piss all over the toilet seat. I like the state housing policy of Singapore (with reservations) as the state is getting the capital gains and they can depreciate and rebuild in a timely fashion with a clear slate. We still don’t have the institutions to strike a right balance as our democracy has the error factor due to political influence by powerful groups and crowding by factions (as in the Green franchise).
I think though that island states with few resources and large populations are vulnerable and the prime example is Japan in the face of a rising China.
One further point I don’t think NZ owes it to the rest of the world to relieve their over population.
“The problem with the Singapore model of governance – restricting political freedoms for security and the greater economic good – that it only works if the ruling elite, and above all the man at the helm, leads by example, avoiding the temptations offerred by high office and near total control of the political apparatus”.
…….
and what can we expect? insurance companies have a 3 type rule on peoples claims. 1 third valid, 1 third fraudulent, 1 third at the margin?? When it comes to welfare the left say “studies were done and only a(n acceptably) small proportion were free loaders”. In Christchurch a lot of people are getting old driveways replaced because of a little crack here and there (including my staunchly Christian neighbours)..
How long must we suffer the abysmal standard adopted by the melons in Parliament. I can understand that the little oik Hughes wears such appalling suits and ties because he when he got in he probably didn’t have enough saved up from his paper round to purchase any decent kit. But Wussell has no such excuse. Pale lime green shirts FFS. Cool in the 70s but puhleeze!! And those ties – urgh. Even car salesmen stopped wearing them about thirty years ago. It’s no wonder that by and large kiwis regard parliamentarians with such distain.
Look past Redbaiter’s vitriol, and he talks a lot of sense.
If this SSM bill passes on National’s watch, it’s a bridge too far. They HAVE continued the Labour policies of welfare dependency vot buying and social engineering.
I agree with other comments that we have reached a political tipping point in NZ , and there will be a major swing back to proper conservatism.
As In read it, there was prolonged and repeated fraud in this case. If there is prolonged and repeated fraud in any case then jail is almost inevitable. The lesser sentences to which you refer are more likely the cases involving false statements on a prospectus. These do not, always, involve fraud but jail is common but not inevitable.
thedavinci, I’m impressed with your impeccable sartorial taste.
You’re 100% correct in decrying the Luddite’s dress code. Most of them (men and women) wear abhorrent pieces that put together resemble an indecent collage.
It isn’t even as if they could be accussed of raiding the Sallies Op shop because the type of kit they wear would have stopped turning up there about twenty years ago. I know they would all feel much happier wearing the same poorly tailored grey uniforms and really, if this is the best they can do, maybe they should go for it. It wouldn’t tell us anything we don’t know already.

Well won’t that be good. They can take the lefty sooks from National with them and we can achieve reds ultimate aim. We can have the National Party to go back to its founding principles and have it propped up by the Cons rather than the hori’s.
Look forward to it.
Problem for Red though is which will he join. The Nats. in their new incarnation of the Cons with their religious bigotry.
What is the punishment in Singapore with running over ethnic Chinese c.f. NZ law? Mr Barr was convicted of GBH…The judge accused the media of schadenfreude. Water rights, Maori rights
31 August 2012, by Gavin White
When we asked SAYit panel members to suggest topics for questions they would like to see in an upcoming survey, many of the suggestions related to Maori rights and the place of the Treaty in New Zealand today. While this is always a hot topic in New Zealand society, the controversy over the water rights claim has clearly brought that to the fore. We asked New Zealanders for their views on:
To what extent should the Treaty be taken into account government decisions today?
Is their impression that government funding mostly delivered on the basis of need or do Maori receive help on the basis of race not need?
The results reveal a lot of angst about Maori rights. For the question on the role of the Treaty today, respondents had to choose between three options:
24% said that the treaty was a living document which established an ongoing partnership between the Crown and Maori and which needs to be taken into account in most Government policies today.
42% thought instead that it was our founding document which required the Government to protect Maori and redress past grievances, but which has sometimes been taken too far.
31% chose the third option, which was that it as a historical document that has little relevance to New Zealand today.
A good NZ run-down on Romney’s speech (which has just finished) and the tone of the Republican convention in Tampa FL can be seen here. http://conzervative.wordpress.com
The first and abiding impression i get is that how
parsimoniously we in Nz are served by such a ghost of a hope by a non entity, shallow, go with the wind,
flake who came in with so much promise and has delivered so little.
i speak of…John Key.
Dear John, take on board, “leaders do not respond to popular opinion, they create it.”
Fuck off John, New Zealand needs a leader.
It’s not you John. Some of us hoped it may be you.
The Black and Tan one offending the Irish for atrocities a case in point .
It was the Irish who knicknamed them the Black and Tans(due to the mixed colour of their uniforms) after a famous pack of hounds.
And despite claims to the contrary, in Ireland some people used to mix Guinness with ale or lager and have been known to call it a “black and tan”.

Black & Tan, the beer mix, is a Northern English bit of slang in the UK and it would be undavisable to order one in many pubs in Ireland. It became “hip” to order them in the south of england in the 80s.
Why the fuck is this baby not being bought back to New Zealand for treatment? His chances are slim or fuck all if he stays in a third world hospital. Be nice if the NZ government could do something useful like helping troubled expats instead of frigging around with the drinking age:
Well not the sort of atmosphere we’re used to in Aotearoa……no clouds. Having said that on the one occasion I ventured into the Australian outback the periods just after dawn & just before dusk produced similar views.
It’s just that we’ve been “educated” to expect you’d see complete black and heaps of stars, just like you see here if you can get to places without the light pollution. Just like on the moon. Whether it’s “day” or night. But we don’t here. That’s interesting.
@kowtow it does depend on whether you’re talking orange or green as the Black & Tans only really targeted the IRA from memory (too lazy to google). I did say many and not all pubs.
I grew up in Liverpool a city with a huge irish influence and you could not order a black and tan in some pubs. Nan was irish and would get into verbal abuse of the black and tans after a few guinness and whiskey. My northern irish flatmates also confirmed it could get you in to trouble. Often called a 1/2 and 1/2 as well – the drink this time.
Though I agree taking offense at it is pretty dim when no offense is intended – it’s obvious from context that a black and tan in a pub is a guiness and bitter and even in an intensely irish influenced place like liverpool it was fine in most pubs.
….”The colors on this panorama are enchanced to give the same colors as it would have under lights on earth.”…..
Whatever process they used to bring up the colours might well have destroyed the contrast that highlighted the stars. Still I see where you’re coming from.
An Irishman was making his way back home through a dingy alleyway after a long day at work one night…
Suddenly out of the darkness, a balaclava-wearing pair of nutjobs jumped him…
They tried to instantly wrestle him to the ground. He fought them off.
They tried punching and striking him. He dodged, ducked, and dipped out the way.
They tried hitting him with bricks, even a crowbar. Yet he took their best shots and managed to still remain standing.
They.
Furious and intense fighting ensued over the next 2 minutes with both of these muggers trying their utmost to floor our Irish hero. It was truly brutal stuff.
Yet after the brawl, they manage to overcome the poor guy who was beaten to a pulp and had put up a fight like Rocky Balboa himself.
The muggers searched him and found only a small amount of change and a few worthless documents in his briefcase – they asked him why he fought like such a champion for such worthless shit????
”ohhhhhh i thought you were looking for the fockin’ £200 in my shoe” came the reply….

republicans tend to be really up themselves and have actually created the climate of fear and hatred that pervades much of the discourse around these things. They have taken on the mantle of victimhood and milked it for all it’s worth. Hollywood only perpetuates this bollocks.
Guinness is a really good example of Irish stereotype hypocrisy. The Guinness family epitomise everything that the republican tradition hate. Anglo Irish ascendancy,Protestant, wealth, privelige, influence etc and you couldn’t get a more Irish symbol?
I wasn’t surprised to learn that the Royal British Legion regularly had Poppy Day in Ireland after the Great War (10,s of thousands of volunteers) but it was republican bully boy thugs who threatened them off the streets. They wanted to create their own version of history and sadly through terrorism succeeded.

“Slattery’s Mounted Foot”
by Percy French (1889)
You’ve heard of Julius Ceasar and the great Napolean too,
And how the Cork militia beat the Turks at Waterloo;
But there’s a page of glory that as yet remains uncut,
And that’s the warlike story of old Slattery’s Mounted Fut.
This gallant corps was organised by Slattery and his son,
A noble-hearted poacher with a double-breasted gun.
And many a head was broken, aye, and many an eye was shot,
When practising maneuvers in the Slattery’s Mounted Fut.
Chorus
And down from the mountains came the squadrons and platoons,
Four-and-twenty fighting men and a couple of stout gossoons;
When going into action held each musket by the butt,
We sang this song and marched along, the Slattery’s mounted Fut.
Well, first we reconnoitered ’round O’Sullivan’s Shabeen—
It used to be a chop house but we called it the canteen;
And there we saw a notice which the bravest heart unnerved:
“All liquor must be settled for before the drink is served.”
So on we marched, but soon again each warrior’s heart grew pale,
For rising high in front of us we saw the county jail;
And when the army faced about, ’twas just in time to find,
A couple of stout policemen had surrounded us behind.
Chorus
And down from the mountains came the squadrons and platoons,
Four-and-twenty fighting men and a couple of stout gossoons.
When going into action held each musket by the butt
We sang the song and marched along, the Slattery’s mounted fut.”
“We’ll cross the ditch,” our leader cried, “and take the forward flank;”
But yells of consternation here arose from every rank;
For posted high upon a tree we very plainly saw:
“Trespassers prosecuted, in accordance with the law.”
“We’re foiled!” exclaimed bold Slattery, “here ends our grand campaign,
‘Tis merely throwing life away to face that raging drain;
I’m not as bold as lions but I’m braver than a hen,
And he that fights and runs away will live to fight again.”
Chorus
So back to the mountains went the squadrons and platoons,
Four-and-twenty fighting men and a couple of stout gossoons.
When going into action held each musket by the butt,
We sang this song and marched along, the Slattery’s mounted Fut.
We reached the mountains safely, though all stiff and sore with cramp.
Each took a whet of whiskey straight to dissipate the damp;
And when they loaded all their pipes, bold Slattery up and said:
Today’s immortal fight will be remembered by the dead.”
“I never shall forget,” said he, “while this brave heart shall beat,
The eager way you followed when I headed the retreat.
Ye preferred the soldier’s maxim, when desisting from the strife:
‘Best be a coward for five minutes than a dead man all your life.’”
Chorus
And back to the mountains came the squadrons and platoons,
Four and twenty fighting men and a couple of stout gossoons,
When going into action held each musket by the butt,
We sang this song and marched along, the slattery’s mounted fut!
In the wee hours of the morning three Irish robbers meet and embark on their plans to get rich. Once inside the bank, efforts at disabling the internal security system get under way immediately. The robbers, expecting to find one or two huge safes filled with cash and valuables were more than surprised to see hundreds of smaller safes scattered strategically throughout the bank.
The first safe’s combination was cracked, and inside the robbers found only a bowl of vanilla pudding. “Well,” said one robber to another, “at least we got a bit to eat.” They opened up the second safe and it also contained nothing but vanilla pudding, and the process continued until all the safes were opened and there was not one dollar, a diamond, nor an ounce of gold to be found.
Instead, all the safes contained containers of pudding. Disappointed, each of the mobsters made a quiet exit, leaving with nothing more than queasy, uncomfortably full stomachs.
The following morning, a Dublin newspaper headline read: “IRELAND’S LARGEST SPERM BANK ROBBED EARLY THIS MORNING…”
Remember I said more than a year ago Obama might play the race card in his campaign and when the Zimmerman-Martin incident arose earlier this year I said it was an opportunity for the “system” to operate in that play? Well, guess what?

Two beggars are sitting side by side on a street in Rome, Italy.
One has a Cross in front of him; the other one is holding the Star of David.
Many people go by, look at both beggars, but only put money into the hat of the beggar sitting behind the Cross.
The Pope comes by. He stops to watch the throngs of people giving money to the beggar who holds the Cross while none give to the beggar holding the Star of David.
Finally, the Pope approaches the beggar with the Star of David and says, “My poor fellow, don’t you understand? This is a Catholic country; this city is the seat of Catholicism. People aren’t going to give you money if you sit there with a Star of David in front of you, especially when you’re sitting beside a beggar who is holding a Cross. In fact, they would probably give more money to him just out of spite.”
The beggar with the Star of David listened to the Pope, smiled, and turned to the beggar with the Cross and said, “Moishe, would you look who’s trying to teach the Goldstein brothers about marketing!”

SWG Report:
The Government’s role

“The Green Party co-leader, Dr Russel Norman’s reported called for changes to overseas investment rules so foreign interests can only lease New Zealand property sends a terrible message to the global community that this country is off limits to much-needed capital.”

Ignore its rules and you’re out in the cold.”

It has never been about “marriage equality”, and those National Party politicians who promoted this lie, this utter untruth, this sick propaganda are either totally unprincipled or so gullible they prove themselves to be far too superficial to be representing anybody.

Singapore has won through location………
a tad more complex than that.

EOS.

Singapore has always interested me – I have traded with Singaporeans and have had Government Department contacts. There is a huge underground class system, never really acknowledged, as power lies within it.
Vote:I was interested to read recently in John R Bradley’s book “After the Arab Spring” where comparisons of a numer of states were reviewed.
August 31st, 2012 at 11:14 am
Vote:One further point I don’t think NZ owes it to the rest of the world to relieve their over population.

Vote:42% thought instead that it was our founding document which required the Government to protect Maori and redress past grievances, but which has sometimes been taken too far.
31% chose the third option, which was that it as a historical document that has little relevance to New Zealand today.

Vote:The muggers searched him and found only a small amount of change and a few worthless documents in his briefcase – they asked him why he fought like such a champion for such worthless shit????

You’ve heard of Julius Ceasar and the great Napolean too,
And how the Cork militia beat the Turks at Waterloo;
Chorus
And down from the mountains came the squadrons and platoons,
Four-and-twenty fighting men and a couple of stout gossoons;
When going into action held each musket by the butt,
We sang this song and marched along, the Slattery’s mounted Fut.
Well, first we reconnoitered ’round O’Sullivan’s Shabeen—
It used to be a chop house but we called it the canteen;
And there we saw a notice which the bravest heart unnerved:
“All liquor must be settled for before the drink is served.”
So on we marched, but soon again each warrior’s heart grew pale,
For rising high in front of us we saw the county jail;
But yells of consternation here arose from every rank;
For posted high upon a tree we very plainly saw:
“Trespassers prosecuted, in accordance with the law.”
“We’re foiled!” exclaimed bold Slattery, “here ends our grand campaign,
‘Tis merely throwing life away to face that raging drain;
Each took a whet of whiskey straight to dissipate the damp;
Chorus
Vote:And back to the mountains came the squadrons and platoons,
Four and twenty fighting men and a couple of stout gossoons,
When going into action held each musket by the butt,
We sang this song and marched along, the slattery’s mounted fut!

The following morning, a Dublin newspaper headline read: “IRELAND’S LARGEST SPERM BANK ROBBED EARLY THIS MORNING…”

poor wittle kpowtow s all ofended by the jokes

Vote:The world will not end that’s a typical Christian belief like the rapture, spirits and the rest of the mumbo jumbo.

you sound like a good old fashioned goat fucker doom merchant from the Middle east to me.
It was the Greeks who put everyone wrong on the sun old boy not the Christians. They just adopted the science of the day.
So the observed science of the day was wrong, Just like today’s “science” of gwobal warming is wrong!
We live and learn,as long as we’re not too arrogant and think we have all the answers,eh gwiff?
