Denying a relationship

A man linked to the failed Auckland mayoral campaign of John Palino has again denied being in a relationship with a woman who had a two-year affair with Auckland Mayor Len Brown.
Luigi Wewege today issued a statement denying he had been in a relationship with Bevan Chuang. It follows a TV appearance by Chuang last night in which she said she was in a “love triangle” with Brown and Wewege, who was a worker in the Palino election campaign.
I’m confused.
There seem to be only two possibilities here:
- Wewege is claiming he has never had sex with Chuang, despite the sexual tones of his numerous texts, and is calling Chuang a liar
- Wewege is saying that he was having sex with her, but that doesn’t make it a relationship
Not sure what good he thought he was doing by putting out that statement.
Chuang also said she was in love with Wewege and he was a “sweet talker”. He had offered her a marriage proposal and offers to go on romantic holidays
Either Chuang is lying or Wewege is lying. There doesn’t seem a lot of common ground there.
