Dennis Horne

The level of CO2 in the atmosphere has increased from 270 to 400 ppm. The greenhouse effect is well understood and a 40% increase in an important greenhouse gas might be expected to change the climate; there are questions to be answered.

The opposite to this statement is: increasing the level of CO2 by 40% cannot affect the climate; this is what anthropogenic climate change deniers believe.

Newspaper deadlines;
A tornado went through Mount Maunganui at 8 p.m. last night.
It did not warrant mention in this morning’s Waikato Times.
Apparently the paper is printed outside of Hamilton and their deadline is something silly for a morning paper. Why don’t they get it printed in Timaru and have a 1 p.m. deadline? If you are going to be silly, be real silly.

Yoza – John Key is OUR (as in New Zealand) Prime Minister; the spitting left just cannot get over the fact that John Key represents ALL of New Zealand (whether they like it or not, and most don’t)

Heh, yeah, nice Gotcha ‘journalism’ by Espiner Yoza and quite funny too but to be fair to Finlayson the point he was trying to make was that there are extreme views on both sides of the political divide and Key’s hyperbole just happened to fit his analogy.

It’s not as if hyperbole from the left couldn’t be used out of context to distort reality ay?

Its not often we receive a warning on national news that the news item we are about to hear may be too gruesome for some to listen to. Yesterday morning we did. It was an article about a panda being killed and sold as meat. This followed an article about 42 Christians being slain by ISIS for which there was no warning.

There isn’t really a direct equivalent of KB, the closest is probably conservativehome.com except that it’s not a one-man operation, it’s sensible right-leaning analysis with columnists who have real inside contacts. I use Guido (order-order.com) as my first point of contact with political goings-on at home and that’s probably closer from the point of view of the commentariat.

Never in my life have I heard such a fascistic idea from a supposedly “democratic” government. This is not about “managing the economy”, it’s about total control of the citizenship.

All these vainglorious politicians thinking they can manage the economy and put an end to the “boom and bust” cycle. As Austrian economists explained almost a century ago, is the result of fractional reserve banking, amplified by the existence of Central Banks and of Fiat (out of thin air) money since 1971. As our debt as money Fiat system dies it’s inevitable death, these sorts of proposals are going to become all too common.

Never in recent memory as the populace needed to be more on guard to defend their historic liberties in this, the 800th year of Magna Carta.

We also have him as registerer of the domain name http://www.changetheflag.nz an organisation that says it is “an independent, non-political, design-neutral society” yet the major part of its personnel makeup is a John Key’s office staffer and Lewis Holden, a National Party candidate from the last election.

I see there has been a large gang brawl in Kaikohe. They have been rushing police in from all over the area to control it. Why bother? They should just ring fence the place and give them all some knives to play with. I’m sick of this trash giving northland a bad name. Insurance claims are starting to come in from the floods and tornado yesterday, but Insurance Council CEO Tim Grafton says it will take time for the full damage to be assessed.

“It takes some weeks for us to get the numbers of claims and costs of damage from our members,” he said.

The uptick in weather related claims could make premiums more expensive in the years to come.

“On the back of one storm you can’t make a scientific conclusion. What we do say is that there’s a vast body of literature from the IPCC [International Panel on Climate Change] that points to New Zealand becoming wetter from the west and dryer on the east,” he said.

“The nature of insurance is that is is renewed on an annual basis, and premiums are calculated at that time. If over the years you get to the point where properties were flooded several times a year then the responses are quite predictable – they become certainties not risks, and insurance companies will respond accordingly.”

So who asked the US to confront the PRC? More than likely the US decided its rights to the area rested entirely on its doctrine of exceptionalism, the same doctrine that saw the US slaughter hundreds of thousands of Filipinos during its invasion of 1899 and the same doctrine which saw the US slaughter millions of Vietnamese, Cambodians and Laotians during its onslaught against South East Asia during the 60s and 70s.

But why would anyone worry about a mountain of ‘oriental’ corpses, stephieboy, when what’s really important is US corporate access to the natural resources in the area. I mean, after the massacres the US had committed in the Philippines and Vietnam you could hardly argue the US was confronting the PRC out of concern for the welfare of the other players in the region.

What I want to know is why have there not been ‘MAN ON THE MOON’ headlines about the fact that currently in the Auckland region, according to the 2013 census, there is over a city’s worth of EMPTY private sector houses.

Over 22,000 houses are sitting empty in the Auckland region.

They obviously have not been bought to be occupied – by the buyer- or they would not be empty.

They have not been purchased to be rented by those who bought them – or they would not be empty.

22,000 empty houses in the Auckland region while other Aucklanders are living in garages, caravans, cars or sleeping on Queen Street – on the street.

How on earth is this right?

So – we have a housing crisis with 22,000 empty houses and then we have this ‘bubble and fluff’ myth that there’s an extra million people coming to Auckland, which I challenged in a petition that was accepted by the Social Services Select Committee and resulted in an inquiry, and Report of that Social Services Select Committee:

We heard and received evidence from the petitioner, but note that the matters she raised have been addressed publicly by the Auckland Council in statements posted on its website and issued to media.

The Auckland Council’s Chief Planning Officer has said that while Auckland may not grow by one million people by 2041 (the high-growth projection), Auckland Council is preparing for it.

The city has historically met the high-growth projection, and it is therefore prudent for the council to plan accordingly.

He said that the city needs to be prepared for, and infrastructure needs to be able to cope with, growth. He pointed out that the “Unitary Plan”, which is a part of the Auckland Spatial Plan, sets out only rules for development.

We understand that actual development would be undertaken only in response to demand. My response was that I didn’t ask whether or not it was ‘reasonable’ – I asked whether or not it was ‘LAWFUL’.

Under the law – spatial planning is supposed to be ‘evidentially based’.

“(a)recognise and describe Auckland’s role in New Zealand; and

I said to the MPs by telephone conference, I said what was the point of you MPs making the law – if you do not follow it yourselves?

Now what concerns me is that this ‘bubble and fluff’ extra million people coming to Auckland, has generated this ‘Special Housing Areas’, which has acted as the means not to ‘regenerate communities’ – but to dislocate and ruin, wreck and bulldoze through communities, as State housing tenants are being forced out.

Now we have the Tamaki Redevelopment Company, which has morphed from this project that was supposed to help and make things better for State housing tenants, and improve their houses blah blah …
which some tenants picked straight away was actually going to be a form of ‘ethnic cleansing’ of tenants, and they have been absolutely right.

That is the situation.

Who is going to benefit from the transfer of 2,800 Housing New Zealand properties to the Tamaki Redevelopment Company?

Those property developers who have been licking their slobbering chops for years over this prime real estate in Tamaki, for quite some time.

And where it gets really dodgy, is that the question is, how many National Party MPs are investing in property in Auckland?

Because there is a ‘Register of Pecuniary Interests’ for MPs, these things can be tracked.

How many of the Select Committee members on the Social Services Select Committee, who said it was ‘reasonable’ to accept the ‘high population growth projections’ are ones who are investing in Auckland property?

Where is the ‘Register of Pecuniary Interests’ for you elected representatives. for the Boards of (Council Controlled Organisations) CCOs, for the Executive Staff of Auckland Council and and CCOs, when it comes to property?

How can we ‘follow the dollar’, and make sure that you people are doing things in a way that benefits the public majority, unless we have this transparency?

I’m letting you know, that is one thing that I will be doing, is that I will be seeking a law change so that there is a mandatory requirement for local authority elected representatives and staff, CCO Boards, and Executive Staff to complete a full, mandatory ‘Register of Pecuniary Interests’.

So we can see that there isn’t ‘nest-feathering’ going on, and these changes that are happening to the Auckland region are being pushed by people, who are actually not, in my view, working in the interests of the public majority.

As I finish, I’d just like to advise you that I was contacted by Parliament yesterday, and I have been invited by the Local Government and Environment Select Committee to give a 20 minutes presentation, at Parliament next Thursday, to my petition, calling for an urgent inquiry into the alleged failure of the Local Government Commissioners to carry out ‘due diligence’ and exercise their statutory duties arising from the Local Government Act, regarding the Wellington Draft Reorganisation Proposal.

And I will be giving facts and evidence about the purported ‘efficiencies’ arising from this forced Auckland ‘amalgamation’, this Auckland ‘Supercity’, how, to use the vernacular, it has basically been a crock for the public majority.”

Graham McCready and his attempted private prosecution of John Key for alleged ‘male assaults female’ – my considered opinion:

If the Chief District Court Judge had ruled in favour of the hearing of oral evidence, then witness summonses would have been issued for those witnesses ruled critical to the proceedings, whose ‘heresay’ evidence would have then been turned into ‘admissible’ evidence.

That’s what happened in the John Banks case.

I know, because I was the ‘process server’ who personally served the witness subpoenas which resulted in Kim Dotcom, his former lawyer and bodyguard, and the CEO of Sky City into Court.

In my view, the Chief District Court Judge should have followed the same process.

Graham McCready tried to contact Amanda Bailey.

I passed on information to the Unite Union, regarding the legal process of this attempted ‘private prosecution’ – given the legal precedent that was made with Graham McCready’s private prosecution of John Banks.

I also made the point, that on this matter, it was not Graham McCready, who was the ‘main enemy’ – as it were.

Given that Amanda Bailey’s ‘side of the story’ was already well and truly in the public domain, having being published on Martyn Bradbury’s ‘Daily Blog’, all that would have been required would have been to turn the same information in ‘her story’ to a ‘sworn statement’?

Good on Amanda Bailey for having the guts to go public on how she was repeatedly bullied, harassed, and assaulted by the Prime Minister John Key.

What other customer goes into a cafe with a bevy of bodyguards who are sworn Police Officers, and whose job, as I understand it, is to protect the Prime Minister from ‘unwanted touching / harrassment / assault’ by any other person?

The power imbalance could not be greater, in my opinion.

What would have happened if Amanda Bailey had lashed out and hit the Prime Minister?

Would these sworn Police Officers just have seen THAT as some sort of private social matter, and equally done nothing?

Yeah right…..

Auckland Mayor Len Brown won’t have to face a private prosecution over corruption allegations, after the solicitor-general ruled there was not enough evidence to go to court.

Serial litigant and retired accountant Graham McCready lodged papers in Auckland District Court in January, alleging Mr Brown had accepted bribes from SkyCity.

He said the mayor had failed to declare a conflict of interest when voting on decisions involving the casino company, despite accepting free upgrades.

However, Mr McCready later found out he required the solicitor-general’s permission to bring the private prosecution.
Today, that permission was denied.

“I have decided to refuse your request on the grounds the evidential test for prosecution is not met,” solicitor-general Michael Heron said in a letter to Mr McCready.

Mr Heron said he considered submissions from both Mr McCready and Mr Brown’s lawyer Philip Skelton QC in making the decision.

He said while he is satisfied complimentary hotel rooms and upgrades are “capable” of amounting to a bribe, there is no evidence to link them with any act done by Mr Brown in his official capacity.

“It’s the right outcome,” Mr Skelton told NZ Newswire.
“Putting someone through a prosecution when there’s no evidence is expensive and time consuming and that’s what the requirement to get leave is all about, to try and avoid that happening.”

The allegations by Mr McCready followed an Ernst & Young report commissioned after revelations of Mr Brown’s extramarital affair with Bevan Chuang in October.

The report found Mr Brown didn’t declare nearly $40,000 worth of hotel upgrades, but said he did not use council funds on his two-year affair with Ms Chuang.

Penny, how can he justify this private prosecution without the cooperation of the alleged victim?

Where is your evidence that the DPS officers were actually in the café? I have heard that they did not enter the café, but rather stay outside whilst the PM and his wife are inside. Tell me Penny, how does your opinion on the perceived power imbalance justify you and Mr McCready going against the wishes of Ms Bailey and bullying her into legal action she does not want?

Your post clearly shows you are working with Mr McCready in this and therefore you are, by association, as much of a bully as Mr McCready.

Penny, tell me how your, and Mr McCready’s actions are any different to what you allege of the PM? You are bullying and harassing her into doing something she does not wish you to do. It is not your decision on what another person should take legal action over when it relates to them.

The Crusaders were having a blub about the Blues trying to flog Tabi Matson (sp?) one of their coaches while he was still contracted to the Crusader franchise. Till end of ’16 season.

In my view (quite contrary to Dime) the Crusaders were very justified in having a whine. Its not on for one franchise to undermine another just because they (the Blues) hired an utter shit coach (Kirwin) and now are trying desperately to get rid of him.

Blues were hopeful of getting Matson to say he would come save the Blues then the Blues management would have pressured the NZRFU to get a release from the Crusaders.

But in the end its all over anyways…Matson was far to sensible to go anywhere near the toxic Blues management team.

IMHO Tana Umunga is the only one who has a chance to reform the blues from the ground up. Mark Hammet would have been worth a nudge too but he is in Cardif.

Following his own independent path by continuing legal action on behalf of a young woman who doesn’t want it is not being a man, it is the case of a male bullying a female.

A real man would listen to what the alleged victim wanted and follow her wishes, not do what he wants and run roughshod over the wishes of the young woman in question.

I’m relieved to hear it Nostra…..there would be nothing worse than sleeping rough AND being uncounted by the parasites on the council. 🙂

I dont know, just looking at that cardboard box setup Nasska, looks pretty damn comfortable to me and probably a damn sight cleaner than her Kingsland hovel !~
