Hysteria

No Right Turn has rather hysterically labelled National, the National Front, on the basis of a press release saying “Labour can no longer sit on the fence. The Government must now make it clear where it stands on Maori issues and the place of the Treaty – so the public can make an informed choice about our country’s direction.”

Sigh, this is the intellectual equivalent of calling someone you don’t like a Nazi.

The Government has shown considerable duplicity on treaty and Maori issues, and it is quite legitimate to call on them to state their position. Representing this as a hoice between Maori and Pakeha is quite wrong. The Massey University survey last year showed that the majority of Maori backed time limits on treaty claims, crown ownership of the foreshore etc.
