Unsafe Sex Law

The Press reports that a Christchurch man has been convicted for unsafe sex.

I was unaware the Prostitution Reform Act was this specific, but indeed Section 9(1) says “A person must not provide or receive commercial sexual services unless he or she has taken all reasonable steps to ensure a prophylactic sheath or other appropriate barrier is used if those services involve vaginal, anal, or oral penetration or another activity with a similar or greater risk of acquiring or transmitting sexually transmissible infections.”

I did wonder somewhat about how you would be unaware the guy had removed it, but thinking more about it, yeah I suppose it would be possible. People can post the different ways in comments if they want 🙂

Incidentially Section 9(2) makes it an offence to even say “I’ve been tested and am STD/HIV free” in the provision or receipt of ‘commercial sexual services”.

Just glad it only applies to commercial transactions, rather than romantic ones!
