Wheatgate

The big story today in Australia is the admission by the managing director of the Australian Wheat Board they they agreed to million dollar bribes to Saddam Hussein’s regime.

After denying it 11 times, the MD admitted “We had to, we had to, we had no option.”

This has the potential to damage the Government, including Foreign Minister Downer who faces questions about if or when he was informed. AWB notes indicate they decided to tell him at some stage in the future, probably after any war.
