Electoral Bribery

A hui has heard a proposal to ban Maori not registered on the Maori electoral roll from accessing money from tribal lands and settlements.

This would be tribal bribery if it was implemented. Iwi members have a hereditary right to the proceeds of settlements and banning people who choose not to go on the Maori roll is just as undemocratic as banning people who don’t vote for a preferred party.
