This does of course conflate two issues – one National’s acknowledged overspend on broadcast advertising, and two potential overspend on the election as a whole. Do we know whether the mistake National made in it’s broadcasting spend impacted on it’s overall spend? If National spent up to the maximum allowed on the election, does the extra $112,000 get added on to the $2M and change and push National over the same limit Labour went over?

Anyone know?

She is not helping matters by putting up irrelevant fabrications. She misappropriated tax payers’ money for the benefit of the Labour Party. The matter has gone to the Police who will not limit their inquiry to the over spending under the Electoral Act. They are the meat in the sandwich but it was the Labour Party that put them there when they decided to take a very aggressive interpreation of how the Leaders’ fund should be spent. It would have been very easy to get a “safe harbour” interpreation from the AG, but she went out of her way to avoid him as there were plans afoot for the pledge card with the money. Tough, let us see how our institutions deal with this.

Look, as John Armstrong pointed out a while ago this has nothing to do with facts. It’s all about providing soundbites to be dutifully broadcast, and construct a legal and political defence if several members of Labour’s campaign team end up in court.

And, Graeme, as far as I’m aware National would still be under the total campaign spending limit.

Come on Helen, how about a bit of integrity and honesty, Take some responsibilty for your actions and your party’s spending of public money for political gain! Oh thats right you dont have any say on how the labour card was paid for,, and thats not your real picture, or signature, while comming clean on those facts why not come out of the closet as well! sweety.

Craig is right – both sides got public money, but Nats/Act etc were under the limit.

Spending public money is not a corrupt practice.

Breaching the spending cap *is*.

Of course Labour are positioning like made: if the police prosecute the PM could very well be charged (her name on the pledge card).

Which is why – in several australian states – when things get this bad, when the govt is referred to the police by electoral watchdogs or the ICAC or whoever – the premier resigns on the spot. Before the police investigation. Before charges are laid.

Neither through paintergate, corngate, speedgate, doonegate or any fricken gate has this PM taken a rap over the knuckles. And to expect our Police to procecute anyone in the Liar-bour party is really dillusional!!

Only one person has the balls to procecute & that person is the PM himself!

Why do you continue to lie about your overspending at the elections
Why do you continue to lie about your feminist agenda
