Cullen lashes UN report

Oh Dr Cullen can be a delight to observe when he really goes for someone. His observation that the UN Special Rapporteur Professor Rodolfo Stavenhagen thought most Maori lived in isolated rural settlements did more to undermine the credibility of his report than all the other attacks on it.

To compensate though, the NZ Herald editorial has defended the report and says it deserves better than some of the derision that has greeted it. Mind you the same editorial rewrites history by claiming that the famous Orewa speech rules out services delivered “by Maori for Maori”. For the benefit of their editorial writer I quote the speech:

“Similarly, a National Government will continue to fund Te Kohanga Reo, Kaupapa Maori, Wananga and Maori primary health providers
