Ummm not sure I do know anyone who is pro-polygamy. I suppose if it involves Jessica Simpson and Kylie Bax I could support polygamy but as a general rule I’m against it 🙂

Just curious David, but why are you against it? If all parties freely consent then theoretically there should be little objection to such an arrangement.

If more than two people wish to live together as an extended couple that is not illegal. However calling it a marriage is another thing.

And I will make an observation that the vast majority of polygamous relationships tend to involve very evil creepy psychotic men, and a truckload of abused women and children.

Yeh right, did your pastor tell you that ?

This book is worth a read, it can be hard going in some parts but it explains in good detail the history of manogomy. The role of the church and the protection of lineage and the class structure etc.

I would say the problem is that the government wants to be involved in how people live together.
HOWEVER if we want to have a definition such that “a man/woman is parried to the first person of he opposite sex with which they form a “marriage contract” that’s ok as long as they themselves are free to define it differently.

1) the media/society will highlight the examples that fit our perception
2) people who concentrate on looking normal will also tend to obey social mores – those who don’t are more likely to be “creepy”

Helen thinks the Exclusive Brethren are a scary religious sect, she might even use the word creepy, DPF thinks polygamous relationships are creepy…

It’s a shame really DPF, I never thought that like Helen you would just throw derogatory labels at things you didn’t understand.

I said the vast majority appeqar to be creepy with abusive evil old men such as Bert Potter etc, and are rife with child abuse which is very creepy.
