Malloy seems to think the argument is fairly clear cut. So do I. But if the legality of the spending is that clear cut (like Awatere-Huata using public money for her operation) then that brings into sharp focus whether criminal conduct is involved. The involvemnet of these high profile silks will ensure this court case which was initially dismissed as a stunt by ourleftie blog mates will be treated very seriously by the Courts and so it should. The constitutional issues involved are of the utmost seriousness.

It doesn’t matter how the court case comes out – or rather it shouldn’t.

Neither should it matter whether this was technicall illegal or not.

I hope that when all of this is said and done that Helen publicly thanks Darnton for helping her to keep her election promise of a new standard of openness and accountability.

The problem is that at least 30% of the population of NZ only care about two things from their government:

1)That the government sneer at their perceived social betters, and
2)That the goverment steal their assets and give it to them.

Labour voters are stupid, venan and all too often badly bred.

Is this the same 30% that suffer from what can probably only be described as ‘Robin Hood Syndrome’ ?

Saddly though the lessons of history are ignored but the principal is applied to their own agenda.

The real Robin Hood stole from the rich. The rich in Robin Hood’s case were the land owners, gentry, tax takers, the aristocracy IE: The Govt of the time.

Robin Hood would be spinning wildly in his grave if he knew that a Govt taking from one bunch of citisens to give to another held up his acts as a principal for their activities.

Robin Hood did not social engineer Sherwood Forest. He did return taxes unfairly taken to their rightfull owners, not just his supporters. Robin Hood did not punish workers or take from them to support his cause.

Hmm. The real Robin Hood is a fictional character.

The “government of the day” was in fact illegal in that the country at the time was being administered in a corrupt manner by John who was using vast amounts of tax money to buy support rather than gough it over to get him brother Richard (lawful ruler by the grace of god) released from prison.

The rest is spin by Sir Walter Scott who wrote a good yarn but was about as factual as a modern journalist.

Helen staring as Prince John however isn’t too much of a stretch.

Now can we find a bunch of Barons who want to force some reforms on her…

The real thing to watch out for now, is the the little lap dog. I am willing to put down a fiver that within the next two weeks, the little yapper will start to “question” certain Lab “issues” and slowly slime his way slightly north of Helen and Mikey. The problem is that the damage he did to NZ1 might just be fatal.

Oh well, maybe there is an opening in the seafood industry?!

Bernard Darnton and the Libertarianz could hold their party conference in a telephone box. I wonder where the money for this prosecution is coming from? Given its all about political spending, I think that both Bernard and National ought to come clean about the source of all the cash they are awash with, it simply isn’t ethical to possibly hide a big business agenda behind anonymous funding.

Sinner – the Chief Electoral Officer has done no such thing, nor has the Auditor General. What sort of fantasy land do you all live in? One where just by asserting corruption you believe that your party should be able to just take power? The final report hasn’t come out yet, the matter is far more complex than you simplistic idealogues claim, plus add to all this that most academic studies indicate that election spending is not a major decider of votes.

Anyway, if it is now acceptable to just make things up and state them as fact…

Another leftist moron. The CEO recommended that the election be anulled due to gross and egregious corruption, that all left wing parties be permanantly banished from all political activity, and that a fresh vote for our true natural rulers be undertaken as soon as possible.

Toms has a point. A lot of people want to bring the Labour Party down though, so it is in their interest to come clean on this.

My husband and I supported them financially in the last election, but would not support them in this endeavour because of their drooling admiration for George Bush (the most anti-libertarian ever), and their neocon, war-mongering agenda.

So yes — disclosure please.

Hi Graeme – nothing is free. If the QC wants to embarrass the govt and is giving his services free good for him – I support him – but people are being asked to donate and many have. If the donations are for incidentals let that be known.

In another incident Peter Cresswell asked for donations re defamation by Annette Presley. I presume that never came to anything – so was the money used to buy beer?

People have a right to know.

OK so just for once jono…

read about e.g. the Greiner scandal here:

NSW – not the most squeaky clean jurisdiction. Greiner resigned when ICAC referred his action to the police as corrupt. The case eventually went to court and Greiner was cleared — but no matter – he resigned when a constitutional body cited him for corruption

The chief electoral officer has done this to Helen; the police in finding a case to answer has done more; the AG is reportedly likely to weigh in even further.

Arguably (and I guess the CPS took this position) in a Westminster system the police shouldn’t prosecute the PM (once reason why NSW has an ICAC) rather there should be a political solution. And that solution should have been the immediate resignation of everone in Labour connected with the corrupt practice.

None of these are a matter of far-right public opinion.
Rather (indeed, rather sadly) they are a matter of public fact.

I bet Tony Molloy is doing this for the pleasure of seeing the Divine Heavenly Beloved Leader nailed She was frothing on Holmes this morning rabbiting about where the money was coming from Poor thing The end is near unless she can nobble the High Court like she did the Police. I bet her little helpers like H2 are out and about “suggesting” what might befall any timid enough not to dismiss the action as irrelevant.

But also: oh the delicious thought of Peters, Dunne and the Greens now agonising over their positions. Having come out publicly supporting Labour and now being guilty by association they must be in a real quandary over how to distance themselves from the lies, collusion, criminality, corruption, smears, tawdry accusations and spin that the public are being shown as the Government’s stance.

Let us not forget that we are talking about not just Labour but the Government with a capital G. While I shudder to think how this appears around the world (think bananas and aid rorts)there is a boil to be lanced here and a number of people are going to get covered in pus in the process.

If Helen is found guilty she must resign. In fact in any reputable Westminster systems she would have resigned already having been fingered by the Auditor General and others.

The rules are very clear about campaign funding and the Auditor Generals reports in the past have been like beatings using a wet bus ticket. For the auditor general to make the conclusions he has then she is in deep trouble.

If she survives this, I would have grave concerns about the mainstream NZ media being impartial and in fact am amazed by the latitude given to Helen to muddy the waters with irrelevancies.
