Two media criticisms

Two events last week were, I believe, poorly covered by the media.

The first was Winston Peter’s ridicolous attack on Don Brash, labelling him evil for the comments over bloodlines. The fact that Peters said the same thing six years ago was a major story. If the media can tut tut for months over whether Don should be calling Labour corrupt over the pledge card, they should be highlighting the hypocrisy of what Winston said, and the fact his comments can only be seen as a way to demonise Don Brash – not actual outrage over what he said.

The honourable exceptions go to the NZ Herald and NewstalkZB for their coverage. The Dom Post however almost totally ignored this.

The second relates to the Brash letter to the Police Commissioner. I heard and read more coverage of Annette King accusing Brash of various sins than what Brash said. There has been almost no analysis of the substance – was the Police investigation competent. Unless one read it on the Internet, the average NZer would have no idea of the substance of why Brash wrote that letter.
