I think I just threw up in my mouth. Still, reinforces my perceptions re the innate homoerotic nature of most male dominated sporting codes 😛

While on the subject of knickers, I’ve been waiting for mention of the bizzare trial in Sydney involving “our” Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and John “Sadie the Cleaning Lady” Farnham.

I’m amazed NZ bloggers aren’t cringing with embarrassment. Seems “our” Kiri reneged on a contract to perform with Farnham (whose “farewell” tours are now a standing joke – think he’s on his fourth) after she watched a video and saw ladies throwing their knickers at him.

Seems she was deeply offended and not, as I first assumed, alarmed by the safety implications of being buried under a middle aged woman’s underwear, which could usually, with the addition of a couple of tent poles, serve to house a small family.

She then compounded this preciousness by demanding that everyone in court refer to her as Dame Kiri, thank you very much.

Good grief.

No contract was “reneged” upon. No written contract had been agreed upon, there were only “emails of interest.”

Secondly, she is perfectly within her rights to be offended at such behaviour. I make no apologies for sounding precious and hoity-toity on this one. Classical Music + Underpant throwing just isn’t right.

At the risk of being thrashed soundly upon my leiderhosen, I must take issue with Ms Von Trapp. (And since my name isn’t Benson Pope, I’m not doing this to be deliberately provocative).

I’m only going on the way the story is being reported but it’s being characterised as her having ‘cancelled’ the performances. Though it seems she was dealing only with her agent, who then spoke to the promoters, and so on…

Frankly I don’t care about the concerts but her behaviour in court is doing her no favours. Her insistence on being called “Dame Kiri” was excused by her saying she thought Ms Te Kanawa is “far too large for anyone to pronounce”.

She’s also quoted as having “reservations” as to whether the Australian Philharmonic were good enough to accompany her.

It was revealed during the trial that she agreed to meet Farnham in Auckland but demanded that the promoter provide a helicopter to then fly her to Hawkes Bay for her birthday party, but threw a tantrum when Farnham didn’t show (his plane was fogged in, apparently).

Then on the way out of court her three “minders” blocked others from entering the lift!

Ideas well abover her station, methinks. What ever happened to the NZ tradition of egalitarianism?!

I attended the Sevens today and I spent more time people watching than concentrating on the rugby – much to hubby’s disgust.

My favourite costume for sheer chutzpah, were the group of around half a dozen guys with black t-shirts saying “Hung like a ….

and a quick look at the crotch area revealed a horse’s head strapped on!!!! Very funny and very clever, very un-PC.

Judging by all the other goggle-eyed women bailing the guys up for further questioning, I guess they caused quite a stir.

Politically speaking, I can’t see many hardcore PC Labour Party people approving of the frivolity of the Sevens – what with all all those tits’n’bums hanging out, wanton beer drinking, dodgy costumes, mass consumption of fast food and of course the rugby itself, it was marvellous being in such a PC-free zone.

.When I first heard that there were some Borats on TV Sevens rugby wearing their sling-shots I flipped out and actually watched TVNZ news hoping for a good view.Nada…as usual..pathetic,non-offensive rubbish.Do I have to resort to the internet to see anything at all interesting,offensive,informative or provocative?yep.Mark Sainsbury is about as interesting as a baby’s rusk.
