No award again for Nancy Wake

If the Government doesn’t want to go the normal way of third term Governments, it could start by recognising Nancy Wake in the official Honour’s list.

Really it is pathetic to be making excuses for not honouring her, because she was *only* born here. This woman is a living legend and a hero. We should be doing everything possible to honour her and associate her with NZ. This woman is 94 years old and still boasts that she has kept her NZ passport from her infancy and self identifies as NZ over Australia. And Australia has made her a Companion of the Order of Australia.

National in its third term was just like this current Govt. More obsessed with following the bureaucratic guidelines, than doing the right thing. This is why in 1999 it got into a shitfight with Plunket over $500,000 for Plunket Line – it put its own regard for the “rules” above doing the right thing.

Will a single person in NZ be disadvantaged by giving Nancy Wake a NZ honour? No. Will it be hugely popular? Yes. So why is the Govt not doing it? Because it has third termitis.
