Dire times for the civil service

Good God there is a hard job in front of the State Services Commission to gain the trust of the public.

It transpires only three people knew of what Benson-Pope said to Logan – DBP, Logan and Mark Prebble. And all three “forgot” to mention it to anyone, and even wrote articles that contradicted what they knew.

The SSC’s role is to keep the rest of the public service “honest” and performing to the highest standards. They can’t investigate themselves and have credibility. They have to have at least a Judge do the inquiry.

How can an inquiry reporting to the Commissioner deal with how and why the Commissioner did not tell the Deputy Commissioner what he knew, and how he wrote an article for a newspaper which contradicted what he knew.
