Field to stand trial

Newstalk ZB reports:

The Chief High Court Judge has given permission for police to lay criminal charges against Mangere MP Phillip Field The Chief High Court Judge has granted leave for police to prosecute Phillip Field.

Police had to seek a determination from the High Court as to whether they can proceed with the 15 counts of bribery they are seeking to lay against the Mangere MP.

Justice Randerson says the material presented is sufficient to grant the leave to prosecute. He says the allegations against Mr Field are extremely serious and there is strong public interest to see them fully tested in a Court of Law.

Justice Randerson says he is satisfied no improper pressure has been brought to bear on the investigation of the alleged offences, or the decision to prosecute.

Taito Phillip Field will not be the only one worried.  I think Damien O’Connor has a lot of questions to answer on what he was told, and when.

And let us remember, that Helen Clark and Michael Cullen have both said the only thing Field is guilty of, is being extra helpful to his constituents.  We’ll find out if a jury agrees with them.
