Further law changes to come

An informative article in the Herald on further law changes, and possible timings. The summary is:

  • Repeal Biofuels law (this law was oppossed by the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment, and similiar laws overseas have caused massive starvation as land is converted from food production to biofuels) to go through all stages
  • Giving Police power to issue on-the-spot protection orders to go through all stages
  • EFA Repeal Bill to be introduced in February (yay)
  • RMA amendments to be introduced in February, and advisory group to be named this week
  • Other laws expected to be introduced but not passed this week are the transitional relief package, DNA testing of persons arrested, no parole for worst offenders, new sentences for the Youth Court and a victims’ levy on criminals

That should keep the Law & Order Select Committee busy!
