Tertiary Education Commission

Further restructuring at the TEC, is likely to reduce staff levels by 70.

While unfortunate for the individuals involved, it is a good thing overall.

Labour set up TEC. We used to survive fine without one. As I understand it, around 25 staff worked on tertiary issues at the Ministry of Education.

TEC skyrocketed to 450 staff. And frankly it was adding little value – huge scams took place which it did nothing about. Hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars went on so called free educational courses that had next to no value.

This will reduce TEC to 292.5 jobs. That’s a start, but not a finish.
