A mate snapped this at Wilton Otari Bush. They checked there was no disabled sign at the front.

So which Embassy was the Diplomat from?

From the number plate I suspect it’s either from the Cooks or Fiji.

Ah yes, German motors – the mark of true personal superiority, in anyone’s language. Your mate should have really saluted the driver of that car and offered to perform oral favours.

(I have no idea which embassy runs this car though…)

No, if you were a real megalomaniac you’d order something like a 7 series BMW so you didn’t feel the bumps when your driver ran down a few of the hoi polloi while doing 160 km/h with you sitting in the back pretending to be the dictator of some tinpot South Pacific nation.

Rex – I have encountered a wide variety of German car owners in my time…

I have noticed that all German cars regardless of make, model or engine displacement (with the exception of the original air-cooled Volkswagens) appear to make their drivers think they are Rudolf Carraciola lining the Silver Arrow up at the start of the Hunaudieres straight; and once das supercharger-spiegel lights up, all lesser peasants and non-aryans had better damn well get out of the way if they know what’s good for them!!

I have to admit that one of the things I do not miss about Wellington is the unbelievable ignorance of those driving DC plated cars.

The Terrace, Karori, Kelburn and parts of Khandallah are a bloody danger to your life when these idiots are on the road.

Well diagnosed PS, and well acknowledged Ratbiter. Oddly enough, never really noticed that tendency in any Euro drivers, far more seen (IMHO) in drivers of Evo’s, WRX Subarus, Civic Type R’s and Nissan Skylines. There is one local Audi that’s a bit impatient, but as it’s an RS6, that I can understand.

This country is full of low lifes who park in these spots.

Even worse, are those who use disabled permits when they are not authorised to have one.

Saw that the other day, couple of young maori fellas, parked in one of those parks. I noticed they had a permit, but there was no way that either of them were disabled.

Was going to say something, but, they might have knifed me.

I assume that youve all sent a message to Mr. Amris Hassan – the indonesian ambassador – suggesting that their drivers have a bit of respect for the disabled.
this isnt like ignoring parking tickets – its like telling your disabled parents that they can go jump.

Too right! The RiotACT blog has had discussions about the behaviour of DC drivers and the Canberra Times regularly publishes the names of the diplomatic missions with the most unpaid parking and traffic fines. The worst incident was in the 80s when a DC car ran a red light at a major intersection, killing a mother and her teenage daughter.

However Canberra drivers have learned to spot the distinctive DC plates (dark blue letters/numbers on a light blue background) which are very different to any Australian state/territory number plates. From the photo here it appears that the DC cars in NZ have plates that are similar to regular NZ number plates and don’t stand out as much as the ones here. When you see the DC plates you know to be very cautious as they are likely to do something stupid on the road.
