When you have people trying to argue with a straight face over whether history’s greatest monsters were left or right wing, you know that therer is only one place for the political discourse to go: up, hopefully.

Ted Bundy was left wing! Preferential selection of women!
David Grey was right wing! He owned guns!

@transmogrifier Pretty sure Hitler only made it into the top 3 on “History’s Greatest Monsters” (Fox, Saturdays 7:30) after Mao and Stalin. Clark was 3875th.

‘Those who leave school and get a job pay to educate those who leave school and get a degree’.

In view of what you have just written , what about those Maori (and note that it is ONLY Maori) who leave school, DON’T get a job (because they can’t be bothered to do so – the ‘benefit’ is an easier option) but who now (according to Herr Sharples latest diktat) MUST be allowed into Uni as of right’ – even if they do not have the academic inclination or mental ability to actually do the work , but only because of their skin colour?

As they are obviously not working (by choice), so therefore have delibrately chosen not to educate those who want to go to uni, where does this fit into the scheme of things you have just espoused?

Well most NZers in reality have a lousy standard of living. Most NZer’s are up to the eyeballs in debt. Most Nzer’s are afraid that their education system, their hospital and medical system, their old age pensions are failing or will fail by the time they need them. Many NZer’s finish school with poor education, many NZer,s cannot manage money, many NZers fail in society generally. abd that’s despite the fact the Many, many NZer’s work extremely hard. Many of the best move offshore and succeed.
So something just ain’t right. I have never subscribed to the view that most Kiwi’s in the workforce are lazy for its simply not the case. Many suffer from appalling management,(you know the ones who were privileged enough to be funded to uni.), and those same people suffer from the elitist attitude that is expounded from our education system and vested upon us via politics.

We are all citizens of this country but we are not all treated as equals. If we were then an ordinary working man who drives a truck, builds things etc would not pay for others to go to university. They would pay their own way just like he has to when he wants to upgrade his license.

There’s a middle class privilege in that and its just one small example of where we go wrong.
So any suggestion that current policy just needs tweaking shows a lamentable understanding of NZ and NZ politics and by implication political and social policy. Current policy is not about making all NZer’s wealthy, in fact the last few years demonstrate quiet clearly that indeed NZer’s wealth has gone way backwards.
The only politicians that have publicly said so and acknowledge the need to change have been Sir Roger, Hyde, and to some extent Key. I have no doubt that if Key could shunt English we would get some real action and movement into our nations and therefore all NZer’s wealth status in the world. Won’t happen while the Catholics hold power.
