….. given it was kicked off by the usual US-overwhelmed-with-Christian-fanatics artiste I thought that Darwin: The Revengination” might be amusing, plus a couple of quotes:

With the way in which the christian far right control the movie censorship board over there, there is a tendency to be rather relaxed towards violence, but to freak out about sex.

IV2, seems about average for the murder cases I’ve studied, however I don’t think it seems sufficient (in the sense of being comnparable with other similar murders) when you take into account its aggravated nature, brutality shown, complete lack of remorse etc. I would of thought over 20 may have been more likely.

I wouldnt call myself religious at all, but I am a big believer in karma, so perhaps Clayton Weatherston will get what is coming to him in prison, and for that I would not shed a tear

Apropos the Dom’s article about the need for a single National Health Board: In 1987, when the break-up of the old Health Department was being vigorously pursued, a medical-specialist friend of mine commented that we should ‘wait about 20 years or so – it will all come back-together and they will be calling for a Centralised Health Authority (aka a ‘Health Department’) again’.

It seems he wasn’t too far out. . .

One thing though – given that the socialists are always pushing the ‘consolidation’ ‘government control over everything’ -line, (in the name of increased efficiency, and value for money – naturally), why did Dear Leader and her sycophants NEVER dis-establish the DHB’s and reconstitute the Health Department?

That fact has always been a puzzlement – perhaps one of her supporters here can enlighten me?

Staffed dunno if you can explain to me, but I’m not sure how things really work around the actual mechanis of financing such a massive national deficit and debt? Bit of a noob on this issue.

When people talk about printing money, are they meaning selling more US Treasury bonds etc etc, or the government just taking on debt from foreign sources?
Or does it literally mean just printing money? I find it kind of hard to believe there wouldnt be laws against this. Hence Ron Paul’s calls to audit the Fed perhaps?

nickb – the US national debt sitting a 11.8 trillion should be scary enough on its own, however if you want to spook yourself go and Google fractional reserve banking. Spend a few hours researching it for yourself with an open mind. That shout make you crap your pants. Also their is an extremely strong rumour that the Federal Reserve is not a US government institution, that it is about as “federal” as federal express. Even the Fed’s own website obfuscates but ultimately says:

“The twelve regional Federal Reserve Banks, which were established by Congress as the operating arms of the nation’s central banking system, are organized much like private corporations–possibly leading to some confusion about “ownership.” For example, the Reserve Banks issue shares of stock to member banks.” If it looks like a pig and grunts…..

From Wikipedia:

“The Federal Reserve is regarded as a private banking system. According to the Federal Reserve, there are presently five different parts of the Federal Reserve System:[7]

1. The presidentially appointed Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, a private agency in Washington, D.C.

After you screw your head up reading all that get your hands on a copy of a DVD called “”The Money Masters” and another one called “Money as Debt” (1 and 2). They can be found to download for free on the net if you look for them. After that you might be ready for “Zeitgeist Addendum” which does a nice job of explaining why the market is in freefall. Those who say the recession is over are dreamers, the only thing keeping the thing afloat temporarily is the trillions of dollars that have been thrown at it. It won’t keep happening and they haven’t fixed the fundamentals. Wall Street is still packaging shit and selling it on and still paying the big bonuses to people who are still failing.

As far as the recession being over? Someone said it well, “We are at the end of the beginning”.

I know what you mean about the first one, I take it with a pinch of salt but who knows what the truth is.

I was initially very sceptical about Addendum but I have been trying to take it apart for 6 months, researching, asking questions. The more I read the stronger their claims about the financial systems get. I have yet to get a straight answer from some of the so called experts who dismiss it as bullshit and I have asked a few. Try asking where the money comes from when we borrow it, I thought the whole world was in debt? I asked our Reserve Bank and they sent me a link to the usual economic obfuscation. I wrote back and asked simply, who do we get it from? No answer. Somebody is fucking loaded!

For some reason the “conspiracy theorists” seem to do a much better job of putting their case over than those who claim to be telling the truth. Surely a few nut jobs can’t be that hard to discredit?!
Maybe the people who ridicule it should put their own little piece together in a similar format to show people how stupid we’ve all been! The nutters seem to make all the good movies!
