Welcome to another day where by those of us on the right, wait ever so patiently for those on the PC left to gain some realization that what they are backing policy wise etc etc is not going to work, yet carry on with trying to sell this PC garbage….

If we sit back and say, ok, the whole left agenda of PC’ness and that all criminals can be reformed etc etc is going to work, how many years will it take? I am yet to see any indication that the left thinking is working…… This is what so so amuses me about lefties….. I dont see it being able to work, human beings need to have fear of consequences, accountability etc etc…….

Hope that makes sense, as I have said before, am not great at putting things greatly worded as some on here……

There are many examples of people who have committed a crime, reformed, and never offended again.

There are also others who do reoffend, but generally because they have no fear of consequences, no matter what they are or they think they’ll never get caught.

Some countries execute murderers. Do people in tose countries still murder? Yes.

Can you back that up with fugures? I can. In the US, it is 4.28 murders per 100000 people, in New Zealand it is 1.11 per 100,000. http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_mur_percap-crime-murders-per-capita

What do we have that the US doesn’t have?

Dig a little further, and you’ll find Texas has the highest execution rate in the US, yet still averages around 6 murders per 100,000 while New Hampshire, where there is no death penalty, the murder rate per 100,000 is below 2.

Then you go off on some stupid and illogical rant about what you suppose is my team, knowing nothing about the way I vote or political allegiances I may or may not have.

Get a clue.

Since the criminals who get caught and suffer the consequences are the foolish ones who think they will not get caught. So the punishment is less important than the cause of the crime. The clever criminal gets away with it. But the individual doesn’t know if they are clever or not until after the act when they do or don’t get caught. The sensible individual plays safe and doesn’t commit the crime, controls their irrational actions etc. But living conditions determine a persons actions and if people live in a responsible society they are less likely to act irrationally which suggests to me the difference in statistics between Texas and New Zealand. NZ is not perfect but rather better than Texas I think.

You need to dig further and look where the murders happen in Texas. Some areas are particularly bad – especially the big cities. New Hampshire has about ten people and no metropolis’ to speak of. A lot less poor people as well.

very good article, something I’ve been saying too for a couple of years. Be careful though, “Big Government” is becoming a populist catch phrase on the internet and rolls off the tongue easily, don’t let it stop you examining all the information and making your own mind up.
Big government is certainly bad but it wasn’t they who caused the crap we are witnessing, that was financial traders who leech from the productive elements in society without contributing jack shit. Don’t deflect from the core problem. Big government is a side issue. The biggest mistake big government made was bailing these thieving bastards out.

Unless of course you subscribe to the view (that many do) that government and big business are the same beast. That it is irrelevant who the head of state is, the power brokers are the money behind the men.

If that is the case then the job ahead is massive and the upheaval will be traumatic as we aren’t just talking about getting rid of a few bad businesses, but major political and societal change – revolution in some form or other. I don’t know the truth yet, too much “stuff” out there but the next few years will be interesting.

“Too big to fail” is the problem. Let them go, we will work it out. The bastards produce nothing so what will we miss?

Greenspan then later helicopter Ben bailed out their incompetent friends. The taxpayer picks up the tab.

The Jap government bailed out their moron banks in the late 1980s and the country is still in a mess. In 1997 Korea the idiot corporations went to the wall and the clever corporations got market share and the country took off.

In the US thanks to government the same idiots are running banking. Blame big government. They are the cause of all of the trouble.

Same Nickb. If they said that in a certain area that’s particularly impoverished, that an extra effort had been made, and all of those recipients happened to be Maori, I’d be okay with it. But to state that they’re receiving it purely on race then there can be no possible justification for it.

Isn’t this the kind of stuff we voted Labour out for?
It just makes me mad in the sense that it is specifically targeting race, yet other low income earners who cannot afford to insulate their own homes (includes other Maori as well) are subsidising it in part through their taxes.

Imagine how much more stimulus the economy could have been given if the billion or so this will cost was given straight back in tax cuts than creating a beauracratic monster to implement all this.

If the Geographical Names Board is to live up to its own PC-bropartheid ethics it should immediately change its own name to Takotoranga Papa Ingoa Poari.

In the meantime, W(h)anganui raises Maori spelling of English terms. If English speakers are to use the precise Maori term, why not vice-versa. For example how about Maori calling computer hardware just that instead of “taputapu rorohiko ” or just “aircraft” for aircraft instead of: aropereina, eropereina, rererangi, wakarere, or waka rererang?

Or, if Maori are allowed to create their own names, usually by alliteration, why can’t other New Zealanders do the same: e.g. Wanganui without an H.

And I agree with Scanner at 12.41. Who the hell gave the Federation of Mountain Clubs a say over our spelling of our cities’ names? It wouldn’t be a hairy-legged female climber now in Hononga o Amerika?

So today we hear that Mowree are crying “tears of joy” over the Geographical boards racist decision, we also hear that the female co-leader is “over the moon” about the spelling change.

Where are the tears of anger every time we see one of their kids killed?, where is the outrage from the female co-leader of the Mowree party when one of their kids is killed?

toad, what was the question that was being answered? I can think of atleast two:
1) Is Wanganui the correct spelling of a colonial settlement?
2) Is Wanganui the correct spelling of a descriptive name given to a region by Maori pre-settlement?

I wonder if the written Maori language doesn’t need updating. If indeed it’s a silent h as used locally, then perhaps written Maori needs a new mechanism of representing that state. For neither “w” nor “wh” would truly represent the status of the sound required as currently implemented. I don’t think the right questions are being asked and as such we’re getting the wrong answers.

george if anyone close to me is either raped or the victim of sexual abuse, when I have finished with the guilty party, he or she will be beyond treatment, and as for the victim I will gladly pay out of my own pocket to get them well, if that can possibly be accomplished, which in crimes of this nature most victims never get truly better.

I found out today that the United Kingdom has reduced VAT from 17.5% down to 13.5% or 15% [ depends on how you are working it I gather] to help the country recover from the recession. Awhile back I heard talk of us increasing GST to 15% or 20% … how dumb can people get?

Why is it that we seem to jump up and down so much over trivial things? Either way it’s hardly going to rock the universe.

My view on Laws is a bit different, he comes across as fuck knuckle to me. But what’s a letter?

georgedarroch, I also hope that is never the case. However, regardless of how close to me someone is that has that happen to them I would still consider that it wasn’t an accident and that ACC is the wrong institution to be handling treatment and claims.
Now I only hope the mental illness that is covered under ACC is only when it results from an accident, otherwise that’s what our public health service is for.

Gravedigger … I thought along your lines on the subject until I happened on Pablo’s thread in Kiwipolitico. A thoughful coverage of numerous angles. Basically in days without communication it was a fun and AOK thing, but today with free communication there are implications which should be considered. The act was AOK but taking a photo and its propagation was not very sensible.
