Van pins man after ‘car surfing’ stunt goes wrong
Christchurch man was crushed after the van on which he and four others were “car surfing” rolled on Okains Bay beach yesterday.
The man was riding on the van’s roof on the Banks Peninsula beach after an all-night rave party in a cave.
The van rolled in soft sand, landing on its roof and pinning the man by his torso.
He was revived at the scene by a passer-by before being airlifted to hospital.
Okains Bay Camping Ground caretaker Alan Watt said he was going to the cave about 7.40am yesterday to ask the partygoers to turn down their music when he saw the van “having a rip up the beach”.
It disappeared out of sight and when he reached the van it was on its roof with its former passengers spread around it.
“There was a gentleman partially pinned under it. He had stopped breathing. I managed to co-ordinate enough of the idiots to push the van off him. We did CPR and got him to come round again.”

Is car surfing illegal? Perhaps the injured bozo could be fined to cover the cost of his airlift and hospital treatment. No that won’t happen. I’ll pay for it. So will you.

Oh and love the phraseology. The chap riding on the top of the car, who became pinned was a gentleman, while the passengers were the idiots!

If Nick Smith is so concerned about the “blowout” of ACC why did he refuse leave to David Parker to introduce Parker’s member’s bill titled Injury Prevention, Rehabilitation and Compensation (Change of Date for Full Funding) Amendment Bill?

This bill would have extended the time required for full funding of ACC liabilities to 2019, just as Smith is proposing today.

I guess if the problem was solved he could’nt then jump up and down and thrash the issue in an effort to denigrate ACC and prepare it for sale.

[DPF: Delaying the date of full liability funding does in no way solve all of ACC’s problems which was the Labour Party massively increasing entitlements without funding them]

With scammers and fraudsters and people who think it’s fun to place damaging programmes in other people’s computers plus those who think it is fun to bring down the computer system of a large organisation I wonder if it will be possible in the future for them to make computing systems just about unusable. I wouldn’t be surprised to find some businesses going back to paper systems. I keep wondering what nasty programmes are going around inside my computer that I am unaware of. A betting company called Centerbet operating from Alice Springs in Australia was forced to close when extortionists flooded their computers with false messages stopping genuine customers from getting through. They did this after Centerbet refused to pay money demanded. This seems to be a modern version of the old protection money racket.

I am wondering if even emails from a source with a Micrososft headline is genuine. If Firefox or Microsoft are inviting me to download some updated version is it genuine? What is stop scammers from hiding a malicious programme behind a genuine computer authority’s layout?

In earlier days a safebreaker specialising in lock picking at least had to be a local person. Now the computer breakers can operate from the other side of the world.

My sympathies go out to all those Jafa’s stuck in traffic this morning because of the stupid actions of management. The extra on the wage bill would be a small add-on to each fare, instead the company is loosing $150Tplus a day in revenue … quite dumb.

Bob … awhile back, last year I think, I kept on getting messages from [server] telling me to urgently validate my connection password etc or it would be cancelled … I wasn’t sure it was genuine so I waited for the cancellation …. it has yet to happen 🙂

McAleer asked Gore if he’d done anything to correct “errors” a British judge had found in Gore’s movie. Gore responded, though he declined to addess the alleged inaccuracies, saying the film had been approved overall for showing in schools in the UK.

McAleer then said Gore had misrepresented the status of polar bears as endangered from melting Arctic sea ice and alleged that the bears’ numbers were increasing. The two jousted back and forth, saying the same thing repeatedly, so, with perhaps a dozen people waiting their chance to ask questions as well, I went to McAleer and asked him to sit down.

After a brief tug of war over the mic, it was cut off, and he sat down.

bus drivers get $14 an hour..

rubbish truck drivers get $22 per hr..

I wish the bus company did have the balls to sack these idiots and hire new people. I am sorry but aside from an endorsement on their drivers license that says they can drive a bus they are unskilled and working in an industry that relies on subsidies to get by.

I have a good idea, how about we pay them by commission on the number of passengers they carry on each trip. I don’t know say 50c per person and see if they can make a living wage that way.

Reasons why looking after a baby is harder for a man than a woman:

1. Men don’t have mammaries to flop out when baby needs a mother’s comfort.

2. Women don’t have to shave in the morning. Distractions that work long enough to face wash, brush and floss teeth always expires in its interest to the baby just as the man gets out the razor.

3. Women don’t need 90 uninterrupted minutes to watch replays of football, league, Indy Car, etc…

4. Women don’t have the same distractions as men around all those spunky young mothers at Mainly Music, swimming lessons, playgrounds (esp malls) etc.

5. Baby always looks prettier when dressed by Mummy – what is this colour coding rubbish?

I’m afraid the party here lacking understand is not Philu, in this case.

Work to rule is actually setting out to do exactly what the employees are contracted to do, nothing less, nothing more. In practise, we all go beyond the our strict contractual requirements and, in fact, most companies struggle to operate without this voluntary extra-contractual employee cooperation.

Legally, it is defined as a strike because it is considered a conspiracy by employees, The earliest trade union organisers in Britain were jailed and deported under criminal conspiracy charges (Google “tolpuddle four” ). It’s difficult to see an employer under the hammer for completely fulfiiling the terms of the contract, but no more, but this is exactly what is happening here. It all has to do with the origins of our English Common Law system.

Just a couple of instances of how the bus drivers were intending to work to rule – actually take contractually specified meal breaks and no more speeding to keep up to schedule. So we see the managers of the bus company actively encourage, even demand, their drivers to break the law.

My formal qualifications to comment on this, in case anyone is interested Advanced Employment Law (a Stage III paper) Massey University 1997.

Tenuous, I know, but better than most.

I have just received in the post an unsolicited invoice from a company called NZ Business Online, purporting itself to be NZ’s Leading Business Directory. In said invoice they have informed me that the invoice was generated because I listed my company on their website. The “Company’ is the Rugby Club of which I am the treasurer, and it’s not a Super 14 franchise, it’s a local club on Auckland’s North Shore. The listing on their website is the clubs name, postal address and phone number, or what you would find in the phone book! For this “service” which is completely unsolicted, they have the gall to send me an invoice for $110.25.

I wonder how many gullible people simply pay the invoice! The Invoice contains e-mail contacts and a phone number to reing. I rang the number, and from the 2 options to pick from, you get a recorded message referring you back to the e-mail address.

Can we spread the word on these fraudsters please, it’s positvely nigerian in intent and purpose.

Peter George – I’d not dose a child with those mixtures anyway Peter, nor would I drink them myself (never have) and I was amused at the timing of the release of those findings just a couple of days before Nanny McKey’s announcement of the ban.
The issue is, many, many people choose to treat their coughs with those mixtures – or should I say chose. Now, Key has chosen for them, without consultation, certainly without support from the general public. Gotta laugh at the way this Government is trampling over personal choice, after having berated Labour for it so stridently. Nanny State indeed! We’re opening wide and taking our medicine alright, because Nanny, we now learn, knows best!
What’s next I wonder? Won’t be long til we find out!

That’s right Phil – he can tear up their contracts. So how much would that prolong the chaos for Auckland commuters until alternative services were contracted? Sending you an invoice is direct fraud though, you should report it at least to the commerce commission. I don’t know if the police will handle this sort of crime though, I think they tend to think it is a civil matter. I’d give it a try anyway though.

I recommend all of you who are in business to follow the links above though, so you are aware of the practice of listing a company on an online directory without getting consent first, and then trying to coerce a listing fee out of the company later, or in ROWIWOR’s case just sending an invoice without even going trying to legitimise it.

These lazy, ungrateful bus driver chappies should accept the offer which has been made to them and return to work.

The last few days have been awfully annoying – having to use the train or borrow motorised vehicles from my chums, and time the buses were running again.

On an amusing note… have you noticed how eliminating the ‘public’ transport – the buses, during the last few days has meant Auckland’s roads are no longer gridlocked? ..the direct opposite of the green argument! hahahahahahahaha!!

The buses are not running because NZ Pus have locked the drivers out. The drivers are quite prepared to work according to the terms of their existing employment agreement.

So you are wrong on both counts.

BTW, I work in Mt Eden. Tomorrow I have to get to Takapuna for work by 11am. Here’s how it looks like I can do it:

Depart my office 8.40am for Mt Eden train station to catch train to Britomart – arrive Britomart 9.03am.

Depart Ferry Building 9.09am on ferry to Devonport – arrive Devonport 9.32am.

Depart Devonport 10.14am on Ritchies Bus – arrive Takapuna 10.42am.

My partner worked nights and I worked days Kris, both fulltime until she did fulltime tertiary plus part time nights, so we both shared the child care. My only regret is that I didn’t have more time to spend with my kids – it was hard at times but I found it very rewarding. And it hasn’t put me off sex at all.

I don’t know. I can imagine doing it once the kids got to school age. I’m a pretty sweet cook, and I enjoy cooking for loved ones. I could probably leaaaaarrn to be a bit tidier and clean up. I could help kids with schoolwork. And I might be able to get some writing done in any gaps that came up.

But since you’ve entered into the debate, the point, little pointless magpie man, is that whereas it might be OF concern to people who actually make a contribution, why on earth would it be THE concern of anyone who chooses to sit on his/her bottom doing nothing when he/she is perfectly capable of doing something. And anyway, why would such an individual give a flying proverbial about the prospect of the system being rorted by someone else? If such a person was in fact likely to be outraged, then he/she would be working and wouldn’t be sitting at home watching tele.

Yeah Ryan, it’s all the tidying up after the little darlings that would drive me nuts. I enjoy cooking and helping with homework, etc but prefer doing it after work and on weekends. It’s the missus’ job during the day. I never did look any good in a skirt.

Wearing a skirt is more something I could imagine Phool in as he leads by example on the many different aspects of home life; how to readjust the cushions on the couch, how to maximise your benefit claim, how to roll a good doobie …

Yeah, I’ve got that bridge building manual. I find it very handy as an engineer.
If one uses it in conjuction with ‘the Manual’ one can end up with quite an impressive “spiritual ivory tower”.
But the thing I am most enthusiatic about is the ‘mansion’ I have commissioned. It is currently under construction in a ‘far away land’. NZ Bus are raking it in, with their $21m a year to run Wellington buses and the other $20m that goes to the other companies to run buses. Of course, they get $9m to just own the trolley buses. They don’t have to run them to get that, just keep the excuses flowing. Then they get an extra subsidy for every diesel bus they run, so if they’re not running trolley buses then GWRC pay them even more because they have to run a diesel bus in its place. Then they put fares up, and the subsidy increases year-on-year by about $4m.

Not to mention the non-refundable advance fare cashflow they get from the Snapper card – which is rapidly turning into a “Snapper or pay through the nose” fare. 20% off with the Snapper, and they increase the cash fares and discount tickets to make them unviable for anything more than occasional trips.

But now people who aren’t even pro-union – like me – are looking at Auckland and their $94m subsidy and thinking, what the fuck? NZ Bus are trying to frame it like a strike – which is kind of working – but the reality is that the situation is being reported correctly, so work to rule – no speeding, no going out on buses with defects, no going out on buses without radios – is what the unions decided, and work to rule is what NZ Bus locked them out on.

Public transport is a disgrace – not because it’s bad as such, but because people pay so fucking much for it, through rates and directly, and it’s all for the purposes of propping up Infratil’s monopoly.

Infratil’s shares were gaining on the chance of hope, and they’ve lost five cents on that recovery since Friday and ten cents on the week. Now ARC are talking about dropping the contract for non-delivery? If they do that, then NZ Bus are at serious risk of having their other contracts reviewed.

How the fuck is this looking after shareholder interests? Who wants to invest in a NZ company that can’t even negotiate with its staff? 20% return? That’s a PR pipe dream, a figure plucked from nowhere. Infratil and NZ Bus don’t give a shit about making good on the subsidies they’re getting for any of their services, or the passengers who pay them directly. They want to squeeze a monopoly for an extraordinary benefit, and they’re in danger of screwing their shareholders now because of this dumb arrogance.

And now they’re going to have real trouble backing down.

No, no Cerium – it’s the citizenship that’s pre-approved, or will have been when I arrive in the new country.
The mansion has been contracted out about thirty years ago. I just had to sign the legal documents to initiate construction; all other permits, etc are the responsibility of the ‘Main Contractor’. He’s awesome at design this Guy, and He’s looking after all the costs as well. Once I set up house, you should come and visit. But you’ll need to arrange for citizenship approval in advance; it’s the only stipulation to gain entry to this particular country. Don’t put off the application, though, it’s always best to do it as soon as possible.
