Just read about a lady who was mistreated by ACC:

It goes to show the lefts argument against ACC being privatised is full of sh!t. I’ve heard many claims that service levels will go down, well it sounds like they don’t have very far down to go.

CARACAS, Venezuela – President Hugo Chavez’ decision to devalue Venezuela’s currency for the first time in nearly five years aims to stretch his government’s oil earnings further and counter a recession by increasing spending.

The devaluation of the bolivar lessens a wide gap with the black-market exchange rate for dollars and will unavoidably push inflation — already the highest in Latin America at 25 percent — to even higher levels.

Opposition leaders on Saturday called the devaluation a blow to Venezuelans that will make them pay through inflation while letting the government instantly convert its oil earnings into more cash domestically to boost spending ahead of congressional elections.

“Venezuelans’ standard of living has been devalued,” said Antonio Ledezma, Caracas’ opposition mayor.

Finance Minister Ali Rodriguez said the devaluation announced by Chavez on Friday night should add to inflation by 3 percent to 5 percent this year. Some economists predict a much bigger leap.

Dozens of Venezuelans lined up in Caracas on Saturday outside stores that sell electronics and appliances, trying to buy items that they fear soon will be considerably more expensive.

“When I heard about the dollar, I didn’t think twice about it. I got some of the last cash out of my account and I came to buy my washing machine,” said Iraima Rodriguez, a 31-year-old secretary. “Whenever they devalue, the prices go sky-high.”

Reading the fact that Mahamad is the most popular boys name in the UK amongst other places is down right scary… ALong with the fact that in 20 years, a third of the EU population will be Muslims……… This is way scary….

It is good to see they have been looking at a better way to deal with this:

Sweeping changes to the way sexual offence cases are handled by the courts are on the cards as government-ordered research throws new light on how the current system is failing victims.

The Law Commission has been instructed to look into whether an inquisitorial system should be used in sexual abuse cases, amid concern the current adversarial system is defective, and that rapists may be getting off scot-free.

But there could be more to this than helping where mainly female victims are at a severe disadvantage….

Does this mean it could also potentially address difficulties men can have in child abuse cases particularly relating to custody battles?

I think our immigration laws are childish and silly.

If it were up to me I would ‘open the doors’ tomorrow and allow, say, the first five million or so chaps who apply for residency to come here without restriction or having to jump through hoops to do so.

We in New Zealand live in paradise and the more chaps residing in our great nation – the better; and therefore anyone wishing to live here should be able to do so without a seemingly endless battle with the State in order to qualify.

New Zealand will become a considerably more successful and rich Country if the population is raised from 4 million to 9 or 10 million in a short space of time and the ACT/National Socialist government is doing a great disservice by continuing with roadblocks to higher immigration.

Open the doors and let the new chums in!

CharlieBrown, that discussed me. Although I don’t know the whole story, that email the acc EMPLOYEE signaled the arrogance of ACC and most bureaucracies. She used I not WE. The tone of that email told me that the public is working for ACC specifically this arrogant EMPLOYEE. We are their employers and should be treated with respect. This is one of the reasons I despise bureaucrats. The other reason is they waste so much money!!!!

Like the Libertarian fuckwit Elijah, you put no value on what you have, or what you have gained from traditional Judeo-Christian Western culture.

“Open the doors and let the new chums in!” proclaims Elijah in one of the best indicators you’d ever get as to why one should never vote Libertarian. What if they’re 10 or 20 million fervent believers in Red Chinese Communism Elijah? What if they’re 30 million illiterate and unskilled Somalis? What if they’re 50 million rabid Iranian Islamics?

Like Progressives everywhere, you put no value whatsoever on what you have now, and show no inclination to defend or protect it. You want it watered down, and our European traditions treated as a doormat for every other culture, no matter how uncivilized or barbaric.

If you believe so sincerely in immigration, then why not do it yourselves.

Might I suggest the Sudan as the first place you should try, so that just maybe, you might think back to the west one day and lament the time you believed its customs and traditions were of no value to you.

People name their kids Mohammed in the UK, and this will bring about “hard-line Islamic culture becoming the dominant NZ culture”? I think you missed a few steps.

Consider this: it doesn’t take all that much to be the most popular name of kids in the UK. Most people in the UK have no particular reason to name their kids one thing or another, whereas Muslims have a tendency to name their kids Muhammad, Ahmed, Ali, Aisha, etc., after major figures in their religion.

Think about how many names there are for non-Muslim Brits to choose from. Thousands and thousands. Even the most common names – Jack, Tom, Harry, Richard, etc – aren’t picked by that many non-Muslim Brits in proportion to all the other names they might use – Jonathan, Luke, Ryan, Elliott.

Do you see? In a country of tens of thousands of names, 0.5% of the population all naming their kids similarly are very likely to make that name one of the most popular for newly born kids.

Like the Libertarian fuckwit Elijah, you put no value on what you have, or what you have gained from traditional Judeo-Christian Western culture.

You demonstrably have no idea what I put value on. But plenty of the reasons I think you’re wrong come from my Judeo-Christian Western cultural heritage.

Here’s my thoughts about the recent snow storms in the UK:

The Brown Labour government have been one of the most consistent and loudest doom mongers vis-a-vis climate change. Regardless of the anthropogenic global warming to and fro, we’ll say that climate change is a natural process and inevitable, which it is. For the last five years, they’ve been warning the British people about climate meltdown: more extreme weather, hotter summers and colder winters. This naturally entails more snow and ice and blocked, impassable roads. The British Government has been receiving said advice and warnings from the experts and in tow relay the same doom to the public to get them on board the bandwagon.

So, in spite of all this advice and warnings and doom for years on end: why is the government so hopelessly ill-prepared for this? Surely, they’d be stocking up on rock salt and grit and expanding Britain’s strategic gas reserves. Nope. Councils are prioritising grit, they’ve ordered more from the Mediterreanean (!) which won’t arrive until the 21st (!!) and they’ve got eight days of gas reserves left at best. Whole communities are sealed off from the outside world. And yet, despite this, the Labour government would rather seal itself in a Green bubble and stab each other in the back. Hundreds of millions of pounds to the Third World in order to “adapt” to climate change when the most unprepared on this issue seems to be Britain itself!

How could they have got this all completely wrong? Is the left hand not telling the right hand what it’s doing? Is it all just a load of hokey? Do the British Government just not care about its own people in the face of postcolonial guilt? Remember when Brown was jumping up and down with the floods back in 2007 compared to the non-interest showed now? Is Gordon Brown really that malevolent?

A Conservative government cannot come soon enough, regardless of David Tennant’s whining.

Yes Ryan, you’re a very reasonable person on many things but if you’re sanguine with the idea of having mad mullahs in charge of real nukes with real delivery capability then I’m afraid I’m not with you on that.

Let me however define what is and isn’t a mad mullah.

A mad mullah looks like this and lives round here.

Some people think that a mad mullah looks like this or this but they are wrong and are sadly suffering from the well known propaganda-induced-useful-idiot delusional syndrome surprisingly common amongst people who think that Fox News is indeed, “fair and balanced.”

Actually no. If you take various variations of Mohammed it totals 5090 out of 339910 (1.5%).
Jack has 8007. And variations of that increase it more.
Plus there is also Jacob (3128) etc, and plenty of variations of John of which Jack is related.

The 3% of the population of the UK that are Muslim “outbreeding” non-Muslims until they reach overwhelming numbers and suddenly participate in some kind of coordinated uprising and gain control of nuclear weapons is given to me as a nightmare scenario – and something a few people in this thread are genuinely worried about.

I was not clear. I am not sanguine about the idea of “mad mullahs” with nuclear weapons. I am just equally unhappy about the idea of anyone with nuclear weapons. I think they are monuments to mankind’s incredible stupidity.

Starboard, I’ve already explained this to you. I will explain it again.

Non-Muslim parents in the UK name their kids a great variety of things.

Muslim parents have a tendency to name their kids after early Islamic figures.

Think of all the people in the UK who had kids last year, then narrow that down to the ones who had boys, then narrow that down to the ones who – out of ALL THE NAMES THEY COULD HAVE CHOSEN – named their boy “Harry”.

All this statistic means is that the number of Muslims in the UK who had boys last year and named them Mohammed – as has been very common in Muslim families for centuries – just recently crept higher than the tiny number of people who went with Harry.

Do you see how tiny that number is?

Not sure where you get your numbers from, but Mohammed was No 17 in 2007 in the UK and No 16 in England and Wales in 2008

More maths – and even the variations of Mohammed I totaled combined only rank 11th, and some of them are different names:
Mohammed, Mohammad, Mohamed, Mahamed, Mahmoud, Mahammed, Mohammod, Mohmmed, Mahmud
Mohamedamin, Mohanad, Mahmood, Mohmed, Mohmmad, Mohaned, Mahamad, Mahammad

In Iran Mohammad is most popular followed by Ali.
In Iraq it is Ali, then Muhammed.

In the UK Ali is only 436. So Ryan could be right, they may be trying to be inflammatory and make you worry about them.

QUEENSLAND state school students will for the first time be encouraged to sing the New Zealand national anthem to commemorate Anzac Day.

Premier Anna Bligh will write to principals asking them to play God Defend New Zealand, along with the Australian national anthem, at school ceremonies.

Her request, as chairwoman of the Anzac Day Commemoration Committee, could be controversial considering the rivalry between the Tasman neighbours, particularly in sport.

Queensland continues to be a magnet for Kiwis, with 11,700 settling here in the past year.

More than 150,000 live in the Sunshine State, about 40 per cent of all New Zealanders in Australia. Trade between the countries is worth about $2.8 billion.

Ms Bligh said it was time to mark NZ’s contribution to Australia by playing God Defend New Zealand.

“This would be a fitting tribute and suitable recognition of the members of the New Zealand armed forces who have served alongside the men and women of our Australian armed forces during wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations,” Ms Bligh said.

“I encourage you to give favourable consideration to this request when planning the 2010 Anzac Day ceremony.”

The Premier said schools could obtain free copies of the Kiwi anthem on CD or the sheet music. It would be up to individual schools whether they got the children to sing the song or just listen to God Defend New Zealand.

The New Zealand consulate office in Brisbane said it was unlikely that schools in NZ would reciprocate, but a spokesman said Ms Bligh’s direction to state schools was a “wonderful gesture”.

Anzac Day – April 25 – falls on a Sunday this year, so the public holiday will be held the following day.

Queensland Principals Association chairman Norm Hart said it was “an interesting idea”.

He said Ms Bligh had called on schools to improve numeracy and literacy, with a target of being one of the top three states in the country, and the focus was on that rather that extracurricular activities.

“If she is saying our students have to learn the lyrics and sing it, then I am less impressed,” Mr Hart said.
