John Davy the maori tv ceo who lied on his CV has just complained about his sentence compared to Mary Ann Thomson.

Davy, was jailed for 8 months (out in 3) . I thought that was harsh, if everyone was jailed for lying on their cv, there would be a lot of people in jail.

Thompson, was given a small fine and a couple of weeks community service, for a crime which was far more expansive in both duration , damage, and in the level of deception.

This, should be investigated, why was Davy given such a harsh sentence compared to this Thompson woman. Yet another injustice of the NZ legal system I’m afraid.

Nothing but another sop to the racist Maori Party. in other words, Neville Key’s way of bribing them to come along to vote with the National Party when the time comes to inflict higher taxes on the rest of us, e.g., ACC, ETS.

You can also see it as quid-pro-quo for passing the seabed and foreshore legislation, where the Maori Party gets its deadly wishes against the rest of the population.

In the vocabulary of the National Party’s minions and acolytes the process is called democracy or MMP accommodation. For me it reeks of expediency and a complete lack of principles, nothing unexpected from the Nats.

Political cowardice at its worst.

I thought the general advice was for Maori to work out how to address their social problems themselves. But now a Maori initiative to try and deal with their problems get’s off the ground everyone just tries to shoot it down? No pleasing some people.

So what should they do Steve? Nothing? And just keep watching their own abuse and keep taking the abuse from all those who think they know better?

I think it should be supported and given a go. If it doesn’t work then try something else. The status quo is not delivering.

Or maybe you have a better suggestion?

I see that a rates revolt is brewing in Auckland. Citizens and councils are considering a plan whereby any rates paid are put into a temporary financial management fund or escrow until there has been more time and thought given about the so-called Super City.

Citizens and councils are considering a legal rebellion ‘No vote, no pay’ local body boycott , writes John Landrigan.

Sire, sire, the peasants are revolting.

The well-worn line may not be the most diplomatic way to summarise the actions of the region’s irate ratepayers, but it looks as if it is becoming accurate.

The Aucklander is now presenting the Auckland region with its only chance to vote “yes or no” to the Government’s plans to merge our eight councils. A select committee is due to report to Parliament on May 24 with its proposals for the third and final Act to shunt the changes through.

In the meantime, a council-backed rates revolt is the latest action proposed to stop the amalgamation and the public’s assets being put in the hands of Wellington-appointed boards.

The concept: ratepayers could put their rates into a temporary financial management fund until Auckland’s voice is heard.

It has the backing of some current city councillors and at least one deputy mayor.

Long-time bureaucrat battler and water rights campaigner Penny Bright is addressing all councils – except Auckland City because Mayor John Banks refused her speaking rights – on the idea of setting up an “escrow” fund.

Holding rates money in escrow, according to Ms Bright, would allow more time to hold an official vote on the Government’s fast, sweeping changes.

Also it might be said that his employment wasn’t directly attributable to the State Services Commission and all the other state whatevers that govern top appointments?
Plus as he embarrassed the tight whomever, he needed to be made an example of?
maybe he was just unlucky, I’m told by lawyer friends that the judiciary is a crapshoot some days.

Just read the piece David did.
I thought a con man was one who lied.
Seems they both did and she from within with high patronage.
and the claim of a PhD was not crucial to her getting the jobs she gained

so why make such a fuss of it if it wasn’t crucial.
Did she lie and was the level of lying the same?
Angels on apinhead to me.

It leaves a taste in my mouth like that retrospective law so that Dunhovan (Labour) could stay an MP when he broke the law by getting a 2nd citizenship.

I was just about to post on that. I’m certainly not in favour of nanny state regulation but this is something I have felt strongly about for a long time. RTDs are specifically aimed at the young and getting them hooked on alcohol. Yes they are convenient and I even know a couple of adult friends who have one from time to time but they are aimed at youth, plain and simple. This is one of the few times I believe something should be banned.

All RTDs and premixes should be taken from the shelves.

A family member stays with us who is at UNI and they drink RTD’s, theyhave one or two and never get drunk.
So you say we should ban something because it does such harm to people?
What about all the many people like my family member who don’t get pissed like the idiots on RTD’s?

We are fighting that same lazy mentality in WTN as our city councillors look to ban ALL people from having a drink in public because the NZPolice can’t deal with drunks in Newtown.
All the evidence shows Courtney Place and the allyways nearby to be a problem area after 12 midnight, But they aren’t being closed to protect people.

MikeNZ – I hear you and agree with most of what you say, but surely you have to agree the brightly coloured lolly water on the market is aimed at the youth? Some of the RTDs are more mature but too many are well named alcopops. Bright purple, orange, green etc with relatively high alcohol content and a shitload of sugar to make them taste like lemonade.

If you follow that link that Jack5 gave you will see what I am saying. An 8% alcohol, bright red lolly water drink called Bigfoot is aimed at nothing else but someone (mainly very young) getting absolutely trashed as quickly as possible. There is not even a pretense at telling people how to drink sensibly.
As I said, I have friends who drink RTDs from time to time. I have even had the odd one but I see them for what they are.

If cigarettes were packaged like that and made to taste like chocolate I think their might be some outrage?

New followers of Kiwiblog may be mystified by the attack on other readers by Philu. Below I post a piece from five years ago on Kiwiblog in which Philu details his own background.

Philu sometimes lapses into strings of hard-to-follow comments disrupted by such abuse of grammar as to make them almost unintelligible. These may be an attempt to publicise his own lonely, ignored blog. If you find these outbursts hard to ignore, there is software available for the Firefox web browser which allows you to strip them out of Kiwiblog.

I find it interesting that on Philu’s own desolate, widely ignored blog, he professes to hate racism, yet he shows strong prejudice against Neanderthals. Bit like allegedly part-Jewish Hitler hating Jews?

i am currently developing a news/info/opinion/debate website; which is a component in a larger plan involving radio/tv broadcasting.

So Gooner, if you’re watching, your suggestion that we buy Greece is nothing short of inspired – the kind of thinking that is well beyond the grasp of the sorry-arsed and visionless done nothing that counts pinkos that used to run our joint. Hopefully JK will pick up on this.

The poms are fucked, the yanks are too preoccupied, the Aussies are ruled by fuckwit, so our only competition will be the Russkies (too hot & sunny for them – they’ll go all lobster like) the Chinese who are more likely to want peanut oil than olive oil, and the Arabs who I see as the real competition. But if we’re quick, and sneaky, we might just pull it off.

with the bubble and squeaks being 300 billion (!!) quid out the back door don’t you think
that buying them out might be a bit out of our reach ?

We’re not exactly flush ourselves, borrowing 240 million a week, but I admire the chutzpah.
Maybe we could send all our surplus civil servants over there to placate the angry hordes.

How could a country of 14 million get 300 billion quid in debt ?
Keeping an eye on what your politicians are up to is a tedious but necessary evil.

It’ll be just like JK having his condo in Hawaii – but much much better. And as for sending civil servants there, to hell with that – they can stay home and do some real bloody work for a change. It’ll be us mate, sitting on the terrace, looking out over the med, a cool libation at hand …

JK can get the whole tourism thing going, and we can use the tourism revenues to subsidise the cost of holidays there for all those families who’ve had parents working double shifts whilst Klerk’nco shafted them and let deadbeats like the mad magpie suck on the fiscal tit. Maybe we could have the rugby world cup final up there – the hotel revenue from that alone would pay off the national debt …
