Yvette, I have Instapaper for my iPhone. It’s good, but I prefer Read It Later which does the same thing but which seems to have nicer formatting when you read it. It’s worth having one of them. When you see an article you like, you click the Instapaper or Read It Later button on your desktop browser. Then when you start the application on your iPhone it downloads the article to your phone. After this it’s on your phone, so u don’t need a connection (maybe you’re somewhere you can’t get it) and still read it.

Also. the first time i struck the word’ raghead’ it was from Andy McNab, a term the British SAS
used to refer to insurgents in Iraq. Not the worst of words really. Still i absolutely accept
that this is Davids blog and he sets the rules.

One Term John, eh Phil?

Our first 3 News Reid Research poll in the election year sees Prime Minister John Key continue his commanding lead over Labour and its leader Phil Goff.

But New Zealand First and its leader Winston Peters are starting to show some signs of life.

Mr Key started the year in a bold but risky way, saying he wanted to partially privatise some state assets – something 60 percent of Kiwis in the 3 News Reid Research poll were against.

But that has had very little impact on National’s overall poll ratings.

The numbers show:

* National sheds a point to 54.6
* Labour drops back to 30.9
* Greens are strong at 8.2
* New Zealand First moved from 1.9 to 3.3 – the highest level of support for Winston Peters’ party since 2008.

“I think it shows the public are rewarding us for being honest and upfront,” says Mr Key.

To get the Treasury Benches, Goff has to try and cut deals with the Greens (who voted to censure Peters for misleading Parliament), with the Maori Party (with or without Hone Harawira and his puppet-mistress mother) and with Winston Peters (who hates the Greens and the Maori Party). FFS man; Goff can’t even manage Labour’s caucus, let alone that dysfunctional family. You talk about one-term John; that’d be one-month Phil!

IV2; mm the numbers were down 4% for the Nats. continuing the trend. Using the numbers supplied by Espiner on seats in the house on present polling it showed that the Nats will require ACT+Dunne to govern or alternative they will require the Maori.
If Maori go with green and Labour then it will get interesting if NZF take a seat or two. One term it just might be and remember we still have the winter and 6 months to go. (and we could well lose the world cup as well)

A British man living in Auckland has been wrongly identified in a letter drop as one of the young boys who murdered English toddler James Bulger nearly 20 years ago.

The pamphlets, dropped in letterboxes on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula falsely claim the man to be Robert Thompson and urge residents to take “safety precautions”, the Herald on Sunday reported.

Written by a British group called James Bulger’s Memorial Group of Concerned Citizens, it asks: “Are You Living Next to a Monstrous Murderer?”

“Thompson’s new identity … we suspect could be that of a young man living at Whangaparaoa Peninsula with UK relatives. Do you recognise this boy as a man of approximately 27 years of age living in your neighbourhood? If so please ensure you exercise normal safety precautions,” the leaflet said.

Police have determined the man is not Thompson and have labelled the letter as “scaremongering”.

Two-year-old James was brutally murdered by 10-year-olds Jon Venables and Thompson in Liverpool in 1993.

His mutilated body was found on a railway line two days after his disappearance.

The man identified in the letter moved to New Zealand four years ago and is now applying for citizenship.

Thompson and Venables were released from youth detention centres in 2001 and released to secret locations under new identities.

A British newspaper alleged Thompson would be sent to New Zealand, a claim denied by then Prime Minister Helen Clark.

Venables has since been jailed again, for possessing child pornography.

Here a little story of Work and Income, a client and a huge debt.

One of my family has a rental house in a provincial town. Nice house and so on.
The property manager found a new tenant a week or two before Xmas. Tenant arranged for W & I to pay four weeks bond and a week in advance. Time came to pick up the key and the tenant didn’t arrive. PM chased up the tenant but seems they disappeared, so in due course recovered all the money through Tenancy Tribunal and eventually found another tenant.

So when preparing the house for the new tenant the letter box was emptied out and hullo lots of bills and stuff and a letter from collections at W & I. (now I know we are not supposed to open this stuff but when you are a landlord you learn that’s how you find them ). Anyway this letter is from W & I Collections, dated just a few days after the above said bond and rental was paid to the PM’s bank account and is a

FINAL WARNING Please DO NOT IGNORE.

request to the proposed tenant to pay back to W & I the not inconsiderable sum of just over $39000.00.

Yep that’s right $39000.00

Now how in GODs name did Miss Bennets staff manage to lend this person more money when she already had this debt.
Way to go yet to sort out the system.

About 300,000 welfare beneficiaries who are judged to be capable of work will face a day of reckoning tomorrow when the Government receives a report that recommends they be forced to look for jobs.

A welfare working group chaired by economist Paula Rebstock is poised to recommend a package of radical changes which Ms Rebstock says will be “more extensive than what most have ever done in a one-off reform”.

Rebel MP ‘wanted job as a minister’

The Government’s arch critic, Hone Harawira, wanted to become a minister when the Maori Party first went into coalition with National in 2008, according to a confidential statement by caucus colleague Te Ururoa Flavell.

In his submission to today’s disciplinary committee hearing against Mr Harawira, obtained by the Herald, Mr Flavell said both he and the Te Tai Tokerau MP were prepared to take up ministerial positions – belying Mr Harawira’s recent strong criticisms of his party for staying in the coalition.

“Put it this way: If he was to have received a ministerial position, would he still be writing to criticise the relationship? Answer: I doubt it.”
