Thanks for the pics link, I had to laugh though with the reporter’s comment, “One mistake could result in a total wipe-out.”

Sounds like a 70’s comment.

Back from a bit of a vodka redbull fueled trip to a casino in the most beautiful setting imaginable near a mountainous lake.

Woke up Saurday morning about 6 am in a bar after seemingly having a pretty good night’s sleep…but getting lost as I was on the wrong part of the train…in retrospect.

Over here, the train parts separate so being caned was never going to end well. I had a roll me own cigarette in my pocket and could vaguely remember friendly locals. When I snuck out the bar a very friendly staff member chased me down the street and told me to get on the otther train line. Nice. I thanked her and went on my way.

I always remember some movie at an AA meeting and some chick stood up and said she had been sober for three years and then she lapsed and woke up in park somewhere. I would have been pretty impressed with that. The best I ever woke up was in a partly demolished Beijing building. It was freezing and winter and I had stolen someone’s bed. I wandered to the subway and went home.

Pretty nice time at the lake place, though just before I entered the casino (the blackjack tables open at 3pm) enjoying the view of the lake and the hills, quite magificent, I noticed a dark squirrel dart across the road and play and look for food a few meters from me.

I didn’t really pay it much attention but I did notice about twenty minutes later it kept trying to cross the road back home and had to keep stopping and running back for cars.

It was bouncing up and down with it’s frizzy tail in the air and when it did try to frog it across all bouncing and energetic the poor bugger got hit by a car and I watched it die still trying to bounce up and down with its wrecked body.

The stupid thing was that if it hadn’t done all the bouncing up and down the car would have just gone harmlessly over it.

I actually had to look away as a girl was walking past it as it spasmed with a small dog.

I had a cat die the same way years ago in my arms. A truely horrible thing to witness at close quarters.

Anyway, that was not the energy I needed a few minutes before I entered the casino.

The result was inevitable.

A few hours later I returned to the body as it seemed it was being run over by mountain-bikers and I wanted to throw it off the pavement.

I was surprised that the fur came off in my fingers already from its tail.

Anyway sorry for the rant.

Hope I didn’t spoil anyone’s morning.

With no due respect, you are either a first year law student, thick, or most likely both. Unless specified in advance, the rules of providing witness in court cases only constrains the witness’s comments to the specifics of the questions answered. Anything else is subject to free comment, unless, again, there is a court order against it. So far there have been none constraining me.

I agree with you that the Crown may try to make my writings a point of order but that is a sign of desperation that the defense will gladly exploit. Rather than argue the merits of the case the Crown will argue against third part “prejudice.” As part of an argument for conviction, or even appeal, that is unconvincing, especially if it is about anything other than what my sworn testimony. This may be a hard concept for you to grasp in Criminal Law 101, but please try.

I suggest that for you to advance in law school you must continue to bat your eyes at professors, cite them needlessly in your briefs and by all means show up at every social event with a disposition to flatter. Otherwise you have zero chance of making it to 3rd year.

Always such a pleasure to be patronised by such a learned man as yourself.

I am aware, thank you, of the ‘free comment’ thing.
Being ALLOWED to comment on matters not directly related to the substance of the case and that comment being WISE are, however, very different things.

Given that the case is to be heard by a judge sitting alone, the defence’s nice, impartial witness having told the world in advance he thinks it’s “a travesty of justice” might just sway even the most upstanding and professional of judges just a little against him.

And while it is possible, I am sure, to be neutral about the guilt or innocence of the accused while thinking the proceedings are “a travesty of justice,” I suspect even very clever people would query a little your repeated claim to be “a neutral observer.”

As a politics expert, I’m sure you are aware that perception often proves stronger than the facts.

Especially with remarks anticipating that the Crown will be “desperate”.

If the defence (‘c,’ by the way: ‘s’ is American) are relying on presenting you as a neutral witness, to strengthen their case, do ask them if they are thrilled by you airing opinions on any aspect of it in advance for the whole world to read.

But clearly, you are way and above needing kindly advice from stupid girlies.
Offering any in the first place, that WAS stupid of me.

Has the Supreme Court made a ruling on this matter ‘Mary Rose’?

News to me.

Last I heard leave had been granted to appeal to the Supreme Court on the right to trial by jury?

Even more reason for potential witnesses not to comment on ANY aspect of the case in advance.

Jurors are told to ignore anything they may have read/read (present tense) about a case outside the courtroom.
They may also be told that a person’s opinions on the procedures should be distinguished from their opinions on the facts of the case.

They may find it even harder than a judge to make that distinction.

Previously, you have taken KIND advice by people wanting to be HELPFUL on how to make your posts more readable as criticism of you and duly shot the messenger. And the good professor likewise took well-meant advice so very badly.

If you can’t distinguish between advice and criticism, do you expect juries to distinguish between bias against the proceedings and bias in favour of the defendants?

The good professor may not be in contempt of court. Being publicly contemptuous OF the court may be legal, but I wouldn’t call it wise.

Any more than a uni professor publicly advising female students to bat their eyes to get better grades.

Oh, perhaps he didn’t say that directly. But the perception is there now for any of his students to read
