Captain Charged:

The container ship “The Rena’s” captain liked to entertain his crew with a few magic tricks. Problem was, his smart ass parrot would always give away the trick. “The card’s up his sleeve!” it would squawk, or “The dove’s in his pocket!” or “The ferret’s in his undies!”

One day the captain was so busy downloading porn, that he didn’t realize that the ship had gone of course, and had hit a reef off Tauranga. Luckily, when the ship sank, the captain managed to rescue the parrot, and they scrambled onto a floating door.

Whilst waiting to be rescued, the parrot uncharacteristically said nothing. He just stared at the captain quizzically.
Finally, he broke the silence.

“Okay, I give up.” He squawked, “Where have you hidden the ship?”

Latest one I have heard of is that having a president would be cheaper, how the hell can it be cheaper if the country is holding an election for a president.
Or do you trust the latest bunch of self servers across the house to pick the best person for the job with the public having no say ?
You republicans would believe politicians when they rant we would not put some tired old political hack from our party in as el presidente ?

Mallard is, once again, talking crap. Good exercise requires a min of 20 minutes a day 4-5 days a week to be effective. This sounds suspiciously like a union bribe.

I have a better idea Trev. Privatise education and give people their tax money back so they can send their children to schools that are not staffed by unionised Labour flunkies pretending to be teachers.

Thats because there are no good arguments in favour of it.

It would not be cheaper. It would in fact be vastly more expensive.

It would be politicised, which means a currently neutral constitutional arrangement would become yet another political football.

Labour will, once back in power, claim that its underfunded, and then increase its size and power, adding yet more statism to an already over-politicised country.

Liberals would insist on “diversity” and that the President is “representative”, which means no white males allowed.

In short, the whole idea is mindless and stupid.

I understand why the cultural vandals on the Left support it. They want to destroy every last vestige of our British/European cultural roots.

Why anybody on the Right would support it is beyond me.

Arguing for less government on the one hand, and then arguing for republicanism is like screwing to promote virginity.

But then, the cultural vandals have sadly invaded our Tory party, trying desperately to turn it into a pale imitation of Labour.

Eternal shame upon them.

May be true, but the simplest and most compelling argument ror republicanism is that it is most appropriate for a sovereign nation to have a home national as head of state.

The ideal candidate for president would be a part European/Polynesian/Indian/Chinese.

This is the real reason the liberal-secular elites are targeting the Crown. They want to drag us down into the gutter, to destroy any vestige or reminder of the Higher Order. This is a war between an ideology that wants to turn our nation to grubby and shallow materialism, and one that wants a nation infused with spiritual values, moral virtue and heroism.

Sadly, whether New Zealanders want it or not, we will most likely have republicanism forced upon us. The demonic liberal elites, their shallow materialistic souls prostituted to the false idols of secularism, humanism, globalism and egalitarianism, are demanding we “discuss” it every other day, and by “discussion” they mean they talk and we obey.

They care nothing for our nation. They are traitors who have sold themselves for thirty pieces of silver to the powers and principalities of the UN.

Make no mistake. This is a spiritual war, and the enemy has the advantage. They control the media, the language, the state. They cannot be reasoned with. They must be defeated.

Depends on the type of exercise and its purpose. For many types of exercise 5 times a week is excessive. When I was body building, I trained 6 days a week, but that as specialised training, upper, mid and lower body on separate days and agonist muscles day 1, antagonist muscles day 2 for each of the 3 areas.

Now I do light weights (60% 1RM) 3 days a week to maintain a normal body mass.

And yes, I am a fully qualified fitness instructor.

You’re right in the first part of your statement though. The Wednesday afternoon set aside is the situation in the UK (or at least it was back when I was in school rugby teams), I haven’t bothered to check the Sport England stats but I’d bet a sizeable amount that NZ’s sport participation rates are much higher than the UK’s.

Still, I have been doing boxing fitness for the last three years, and it does help with motivation to have someone encouraging you and showing you the right way to do things.

Go Slovakia!

Slovakia has, as I’ve mentioned before, done almost all the right things over the past decade, adopting a flat tax, selling off state industries, reforming its pension system and shrinking its public sector as a percentage of GDP. Told that they would be punished for their surplus so as to reward Greece for its deficit, Slovaks understandably bridled.

Their liberal party, SaS and, even more so, our conservative ally, OKS, argued that, instead of imposing its model on Slovakia, the EU should learn from the Slovak experience.

We had PE 2x a week (40min) and sports aft 1x (1hr30) week plus rugby on Sat mornings and basketball and soccer after school in their seasons.
Swimming in spring/summer was torture as it was so cold most of the time and rained some too, but that’s London for you.

Just about the worst kind of voyeurism in my book.

For the record, I didn’t ‘click’ and it wasn’t because I’m squeamish.

What is it about people who cannot simply accept that being blown to bits is a gruesome thing, but instead have some sick voyeuristic craving to validate what requires little imagination?

We occasionally see death in the course of the presentation of news events. But the notion of actually wanting to watch something specifically to see someone maimed or killed seems rather sick.

Why is it that sports people, actors and some public figures lie about how tall they are? Alfe langer was alway 5′ 6″ or 5′ 8″ tall, Matt Damon supposed to be 5′ 11″ etc etc. Anyone with a modest IQ know a fib when they see one in this regard. Why do it? Is it ego?

Mr Key has provided a breath of fresh air to the body politic. New Zealanders enjoy having a confident, upbeat prime minister devoid of airs and graces.

However, style is not a substitute for substance. The country does not need a dilettante prime minister. It needs someone whose No1 priority is the state of the nation. Less blokey joshing and more attention to detail would be in everyone’s interests.

Time to buckle down

If he doesn’t show more seriousness quickly it could be more than Rena running ragged.

If you leave your statement at that you are correct, whatever “the left” is. What about the centre?

I think cooperation and tolerance of differences is far more important than fighting some obscure theoretical battle to the bitter end.

It’s futile thinking you can destroy vague ideology. And more futile thinking you can undo history, there has been a lot of elightenment since the Enlightenment and that is far more likely to continue rather than somehow reversing to the dark ages.

2) The enlightenment was simply a paradigm shift from antiquated erroneous assumptions to a greater understanding of our environment and ideas. How can a greater understanding of things be a bad thing?

Actually, I didn’t mean it that way, or I wouldn’t have made a fuss. I was attacking the idea of flagellation rather than the Christian church. To me there is something disturbingly psychotic about its practice aside from its religiosity. I know that many within the church agree that it is a bad practice.

Yes Scott, I too was referring to flagellation – but I take your point and how it could be misconstrued.
I guess to understand flagellation you need to have an understanding of the spirituality of ‘mortifying the flesh. It si an ancient practice in Christianity, and also other religions and pre-dates christianity. In fact, some of the ancient pagan religions – and even some extreme sects of hinduism and islam – practice it also. The difference is that the other religions did/do it to induce a trance like state. This is not the case with christianity.

Wth the attitudes of our day – the avoidance of pain and the seeking of pleasure – I can see why many people including christians find this a rather distasteful practice, and because of that find something disordered about it. The fact remains however, that it is still a practice in some parts of the world, and in some christian communities – particularly some religious orders – like Opus Dei. But that is not to say that it is practiced by all the members, or that it is a necessity.

Madness.

The Republicans might like to reflect on the fact that Rasmussen Reports shows the so-called generic Republican candidate to be beating Obama 47-41 while the actual Republican candidates are losing.

You don’t cooperate and tolerate evil. Would you cooperate and tolerate Nazi’s? No. There are many things you are intolerant of, many perhaps rightly so. Me too. We are no different in that respect. The difference is that I make a choice about what I believe and follow that, rather than claim some theoretical non-existent centrist pragmatism that is really just a lack of coherent thinking and ideological backbone.

Technology is not the issue. The ancient Egyptians, the Classical Romans, and Medieval Europe had technology. It did not arise out of thin air after the so-called enlightenment. Technological innovation is a given.

Destroying the so-called enlightenment is simply a matter of witnessing and waiting. The modern world is busy eating itself. Its demise is every bit as inevitable as the sun setting.

That is actually untrue. It was a couple of people and the rest of the Republicans were booing and shushing the two disruptors.
Of course, that didn’t stop Obama and the Left using the story as if it were true.

A woman who was actually at the event speaks out –

I want to put this on the record now about an incident that happened at tonight’s Republican debate. It’s important that the truth is shared, because I have already seen liberal bloggers and some people on Twitter completely distorting what happened.
The debate included video questions that were submitted on YouTube, and one came from a soldier serving in Iraq who is gay and asked about the candidates’ opinions on don’t ask don’t tell. There was audible booing after his question…however, please note that it was not the crowd booing. It was only one or two people.

On the Enlightenment he says It was not a “greater understanding”, it was a descent into ignorance and darkness.

Yes, all that pesky sciency stuff about germ theory, the discovery of bacterial causes for disease, the discovery of how the human body functions and how illness can be cured.

Lee01 cannot abide that, as it shows his “saviour” up for the deluded lunatic crank he was, although he was a Man of his time, believeing that all illness was caused by “sin”, not by germs or bacteria or degeneration of heritability, etc.

And this, is the same Jesus who cursed a tree because it would not give him fruit, out of season.

Is it any wonder that science and knowledge frightens Lee01? It undermines the whole edifice of his “faith” aka believing in something demonstarbly false because you want to believe, regardless of the evidence.

People like that are dangerous and should be kept locked up.

That is actually untrue. It was a couple of people and the rest of the Republicans were booing and shushing the two disruptors.
Of course, that didn’t stop Obama and the Left using the story as if it were true.

Well other people in the crowd can be forgiven given that they didn’t have a microphone to voice their disgust. But Megyn Kelly and Rick Santorum had a microphone. Where was their condemnation of this appalling behaviour? I didn’t notice it. Santorum just went on to say how that gay soldier will have to go back into the closet and the crowd applauded.

And how is the substance of what Santorum said any worse than the guys booing? The idea that sex isn’t a thing in the military is a load of bollocks. It’s not like you walk up to any soldier and you wonder whether they are straight or gay. The presumption is that they are straight because most people are, and if you happen to meet their opposite sex partner they don’t get chucked out of the military because their sexuality was revealed. On the other hand gays were expected to keep their life a secret and if it was found out they get chucked out despite their service to their country. It’s disgusting and quite frankly it’s that attitude which is more insulting to that soldier than any booing could ever be. Booing has no effect. Bigoted attitudes on the other hand do have an effect and well done to the current administration for ending this ridiculous discrimination.

BTW I notice no mention of the cheering at the high rate of executions in Texas because that was obviously more than just a couple trouble makers. I find it’s one thing to believe the death penalty is a necessary punishment and deterrent, it’s quite another to cheer because a lot of executions have been carried out. Murder and execution is not a football game but the crazier elements on the right act like it is. It just goes to show the backwards mindset of a large portion of Republicans that they would cheer such a thing.

I already referred to this across on the Diversity At Radio NZ thread, where I pointed out this event where union leader Jimmy Hoffa Jr said of the Tea Party:

President Obama, this is your army. We are ready to march. Let’s take these son of bitches out and give America back to an America where we belong,”

In response to which President Obama had nothing critical to say, even as he spoke just a little later at the same gathering. Nothing.

What was that the left-wing were saying about “extremist crazies”?

Oh – and the need for civility too. I seem to recall hearing an awful lot about that a few months ago when the need to avoid “inciting violence” was supposedly paramount.

Muhahahaha.

Between the tired old tactics of deligitimisation around “extremists” and now this blatant repetition of the latest Democratic Underground talking points (or is it the Daily Kos), Weihana’s really taken over the mikenmild task of putting these forward with sweet reasonableness.

As it happens the Democrat Senate could not even be bothered dealing with Obama’s Jobs Bill until “other matters” were cleared out of the way – at least according to Senate Leader Harry Reid. Which just shows you both the degree of importance the Democrats attached to their President’s bill as well as the degree of confidence that it’s a solution that can be sold the American people.

Of course it’s a good thing they were willing to dally on the bill, since Obama turned out to not actually have one ready to submit the day after he delivered his We must pass this bill now speech a month ago. What an incompetent wind bag. It was so bad that even Senate Democrats were getting pissed off at him over this.

And now the US left are talking up the opinion polls and Obama has said he’ll take the attack directly to Republicans who vote against this. The response to which has been laughter from the GOP.

It seems to escape the dwindling bands of Obama supporters in the US but “the American People” gave their verdict on the first stimulus bill (not to mention Obamacare and all it’s oncoming tax hikes after 2014) in November 2010, after almost two years of protests against such vast increases (perhaps I should say “extremist” for a debate framing laugh) in Federal spending. That’s why the GOP won such a historic sweep after having been booted from the House themselves just four years earlier.

They and their voters know exactly why they were sent to Congress: to stop these insane spendups. I doubt even the often weak-kneed GOP will be willing to turn in the face of that mandate just to appease the lowest common denominator of nationwide, averaged opinion polls and the snarls of the average MSNBC/CNN talking head.

Obviously Obama and the far left think “tax the rich” is a winner. In reality it’s the last gasp of a desperate President. He and the rest of the left need to watch this interview with the founder of BET (Black Entertainment Television) to see how badly this gambit is going to fail.
