Quick questions for Mr Asness:
How were you enough of a dumbfuck that in 2008 all those aspects of Obama somehow escaped you? Did his honeyed words in private fund-raising sessions blind you so much that you could not be bothered getting off your ass to investigate his 20 years of marination in left-wing circles?
And if you are that dumb, why on earth would anybody trust your “judgement” about Mitt Romney? Are you actually as smart as you (and others) would imply your wealth makes you, or was it made the old-fashioned way through Wall Street/Ivy League connections?

It’s just joana that many of us don’t actually really think NZ is controlled by corporate greed because that is not how our Westminster democracy is setup and it’s not how politics operates in this country.

If someone has a childish fantasy in their own mind about how people are being controlled by faceless malevolent entities then normally its the person with that fantasy who needs to explain it, not the other way round.

That’s how it normally works.

The motive behind the occupiers.

Whilst I agree with their objective in that fractional reserve centralised banking is at the heart of our economic woes and should be destroyed immediately, I’m not sure that a non-violent sit-in style movement is going to make a jot of difference in terms of achieving such.

Effectively to change this one would need to replace virtually the entire Congress for long-term corrupt pork-belly practices over decades and generations, remove all of the lobbyists from every industry not just banking but big pharma, health, defence and all the rest of it, change the way the PACs operate in particular AIPAC but there are many more which need changing, re-structure campaign funding so election once again is based on merit not on how much money the winning candidate can bring to bear. And that’s just the political system in one country, it’s not the financial system and it’s not the military-industrial complex and both of those need to be changed, as well.

Then you move into the diplomatic field and you’d have to change the way the UN operates since the Security Council veto is obviously mis-used all the time by all sides so fuck that, you’d eliminate the CFR, then in the UK same with Chatham House, scatter the think tanks like the Tavistock Institute and the Rand Corporation to the four winds, change the relationship that the City has to the Monarchy, re-structure the Vatican, and on and on and on.

So I’m not sure all of that’s going to happen straight away based on a few people sitting in Hagley Park, but good on you for giving it a go.

This summer a little-known intelligence agency began seeking ideas from academic social scientists and corporations for ways to automatically scan the Internet in 21 Latin American countries for “big data,” according to a research proposal being circulated by the agency. The three-year experiment, to begin in April, is being financed by the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity, or Iarpa (pronounced eye-AR-puh), part of the office of the director of national intelligence.

The automated data collection system is to focus on patterns of communication, consumption and movement of populations. It will use publicly accessible data, including Web search queries, blog entries, Internet traffic flow, financial market indicators, traffic webcams and changes in Wikipedia entries.

It is intended to be an entirely automated system, a “data eye in the sky” without human intervention, according to the program proposal…

…A similar project by their military sister organization, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or Darpa, aims to automatically identify insurgent social networks in Afghanistan.

Me too. Dunno about you but personally I’m a bit rusty on the math behind the Van Den Broeck modification of the Alcubierre geometry. I did it in the 5th form and it was quite easy back then but you forget these things, after awhile.

One of Rupert Murdoch’s most senior European executives has resigned following Guardian inquiries about a circulation scam at News Corporation’s flagship newspaper, the Wall Street Journal.

The Guardian found evidence that the Journal had been channelling money through European companies in order to secretly buy thousands of copies of its own paper at a knock-down rate, misleading readers and advertisers about the Journal’s true circulation.

The bizarre scheme included a formal, written contract in which the Journal persuaded one company to co-operate by agreeing to publish articles that promoted its activities, a move which led some staff to accuse the paper’s management of violating journalistic ethics and jeopardising its treasured reputation for editorial quality.

Internal emails and documents suggest the scam was promoted by Andrew Langhoff, the European managing director of the Journal’s parent company, Dow Jones and Co, which was bought by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation in July 2007. Langhoff resigned on Tuesday.

The highly controversial activities were organised in London and focused on the Journal’s European edition, which circulates in the EU, Russia, and Africa. Senior executives in New York, including Murdoch’s right-hand man, Les Hinton, were alerted to the problems last year by an internal whistleblower and apparently chose to take no action. The whistleblower was then made redundant…

For reasons that don’t matter i just flicked over to the Standard [ I know, I know!] to see what was exercising them today….Incredibly, there are posters (more than one) suggesting that the Rena is on the Astrolabe reef as a result of conspiracy by the government ( or at least condoned by it) to damage the reef so that it is no longer an ecological jewel (follow me here) an therefore blasting it out of existence is justifiable – or at least defendable – all to allow quicker turnaround times at the port of Tauranga!!

At first I thought it was a joke….sorta like a story in The Onion…then I realised it wasn’t…… God help us….

I’m afraid since G-d put the reef there in the first place He probably won’t help us since He probably thinks it’s a bit silly we hit it in the first place since He’d made sure we knew where it was ages ago and it wasn’t moving at the time. Especially since the storm front that He’d had booked in the calendar for everyone to see since January last year, was about to arrive. I mean, really.

When I come onto KB I get a pop up telling me that a script is running that is making my machine slow and would I like to stop it.
Any ideas how I can deal with this? Its a pain in the butt.

The lefties whingeing about the Astrolabe reef being where it is.

They don’t need to worry – about 2 miles south of Astrolabe is another reef, Okaparu reef – which isn’t exposed at low tide, but is roughly the same size as Astrolabe, and just below the surface.

If Astrolabe wasn’t there, the dickhead navigator could well have hit Okaparu. 🙂

That’s just the standard capturing of private records, David.

Don’t worry about it, the SIS/GCSB just made a mistake, normally you don’t even notice it.

It’ll stop happening shortly once they figure out the bug and you’ll be back to normal.

Reading the lamestream media today it appears that the left are now relying on the Rena
hitting the reef to give them an ace in the hole for the election.
When they win they will be able to continue to redistribute the wealth fairly.
MNIJ will be one of the first with his hand out. (he has been hard done by all his life, never had a real chance)

Aren’t alarmists disgusting for their responsibility in (a) promoting by legislation we have to put poison into our houses under the guise of “it’s good for the eviwonment” and (b) never ever giving us any info about this apparently excruciatingly deleterious downside when anyone with any bwains at all must have known about this unfortunate side-effect since way-back and if ya didn’t, then why not?

I think there were warnings issued not long before the last election about the time the shower head fiasco was looming. Unlike the hysterical screaming that accompanies the recalls retail chains issue from time to time the MSM seemed to treat the threat very casually…..probably thought it might impact on their luddite mates in the Green & socialist parties.

Once again those who only want to help by doing our thinking for us would rather a hundred people died from mercury poisoning than risk the ’cause’.

Thank god Mr Key made $5000000 why being our PM and getting NZ a down grade in our credit rating SIGH.As i say a ex money market dealer,who dosnt make a profit why in charge of a countries finances could be called a rorting failure.

Just watched some Kiwis whining on 60 minutes that they don’t have the same rights (to benefits) as Australians.
People who moved over the ditch think that Australia should be as generous with their tax payers money as New Zealand.
Anybody working (or not) in New Zealand and isn’t a New Zealander gets the same benefits as New Zealanders.
The Australians aren’t that stupid.
They are complaining it isn’t fair……..

Not very accurate but I’ll give you credit for trying…I am home watching the telly.
As I have written before , the crowd around the guy from Unite are members of ”Beyond Resistance ” an anarchist group in CHCH linked to other anarchist groups all over the world…this is how they have been able to mobilise so easily; they are almost all anarchists; part of an international movement. I actually find their ideas scary.
