Disgusting personal attack on Katrina Shanks by Metiria Turei tonight on Backbenchers! Shanks handled it with amazing dignity. I would have walked out. Worst sexist attack I’ve seen outside the House.

In a column in DScene Turei talked up Greens as one of two major opposition parties on the basis of a very good election result and a single (Morgan) poll spike. And along similar lines to running tweet exchange with Patrick Gower recently she lambasts National, and laments National not playing ball with Greens.

Greens have figured out how to do some things very well, but how to take an active part in Government isn’t one of them. Maybe Turei could start a covert campaign of putting amendment stickers over National bills.

i viewed tureis’ performance as cheering confirmation of the tearing off of those memorandum-of-understanding bandages over the mouths of green leaders..for so long..

..and the emergence of the green party most of us want…one that will hold the ruling party to close account..

..and turei did not attack shanks personally…she attacked the inhuman/rand-ite policies of this nact-govt…

..citing galloping/widespread poverty..and all the ills that engenders..

..and how nact/key just ‘don’t care’…

..and how fixing these poverty-ills is just a matter of priorities..(i.e..$1.8 billion payout to the elites/1% from sth canterbury finance..)

..and yes..shanks was rocked back on her heels..

..and i am hoping this is just a taste of how the greens will now take it to nact/key..

..(and whatever coddington said/says..?..snigger/snort!!..’coddington’..?..really..?..that’s the best you’ve got..?)

@ Phil; the Morgan poll spike is going to be the peak for the Greens once the public at large gets to see Turei unleashed. Couple that with a Green MP effectively saying yesterday that wilful destruction of private property was OK if the government didn’t pass the laws you wanted them to, and the real, hard-left agenda of the Greens soon becomes apparent. The public will quickly tire of Russel Norman trying hard to ignore his socialist roots to present as a moderate, or of Gareth Hughes travelling up and down the country on their taxes proferring an expert opinion on everything.

The only reason that the Greens are polling so high is because the Labour Party is so inept.

PS: Have you ever been to Ethiopia? Go and spend a few days (and nights) on the streets and in the slums in Addis Ababa, and you’ll quickly change your opinion on what constitutes poverty. On a global scale, there is precious little poverty in New Zealand, where “poverty” is measured on whether you have the latest TV, broadband internet (famously described by Hughes as “a fundamental human right”) or whether your Sky subscription is up to date.

Hockey blasts attitude of ‘entitlement’

SHADOW treasurer Joe Hockey has condemned systems of ”universal entitlement” in Western democracies, contrasting this attitude with the concept of ”filial piety” thriving across Asia where people get what they work for and families look after their own.

Speaking in London, Mr Hockey said that by Western standards the highly constrained public safety net in Hong Kong and other Asian places might seem brutal ”but it works and it is financially sustainable”.

”Contrast this with what we find in Europe, the United Kingdom and the United States. All of them have enormous entitlement systems spanning education, health, income support, retirement benefits, unemployment benefits.”

Government revenues fell far short of meeting the cost and the difference had to be made up by borrowing.

While he was less critical of Australia, saying that over the years there had been some key decisions to reduce spending, Mr Hockey said it still had ”a lot of spending by government which many voters see as their entitlement”.

He said a lower level of entitlement meant countries were free to allow business and individuals to be successful. ”It reduces taxation, meaning individuals spend less of their time working for the state, and more of their time working for themselves and their family.”

Both sides of the Western political spectrum were to blame for the entitlement mentality. Socialist governments had created a huge array of entitlements, and conservative governments had promised to fix the problem but just trimmed round the edges.

”Perhaps the real problem is the exuberant excesses of politicians who do not seem to understand or care about the fact that, like a household, a nation needs to balance its budget over time,” he said.

But now ”the age of unlimited and unfunded entitlement to government services and income support is over”, he said. ”We are now in an era where leaders are much more wary about credit risk.”

I know we’re poorly served by the media in this country and most of the scribes masquerading as journalists are downright thick, but, can anyone tell me when Boeing started building A330’s?

In February Garuda ordered 230 new aircraft from Boeing in a $US22.4 billion deal which includes 11 new A330 wide-body jets.

If you have a huge interest in the motivations of our political leaders, then you must realise just how bereft of morals some of Helen Clark’s decisions were …

… and how the Greens follow their own “morals”, but the problem is that their “morals” are driven by different values and are utterly blind to the impact their decisions and policies have – as long as they follow their particular and very specific moral compass, they (to use your own prase) just don’t care about the human costs.

kowtow I bet you’re wrong. The military does not get forced into those sorts of things by State when something as important as technology security is at stake. It was the military who prevented Bush from striking Iran and forced Bush to implement a no-overflight policy for Israeli jets which is why Israel and US tried to get a base in Georgia which is why Putin invaded it in 2008 and the military did all that because it knew that if Iran was hit then all its Iraq supply lines would be cut and all the marines on the ground in Iraq would be lost. I’m not interested in discussing those incidents they’re ancient history I only raise them as an example to illustrate the US military is not without its own sources when it comes to the power centres in Washington.

Anyway, how could US technology possibly be compromised by such an exercise? I mean duh. What do you think happens in these things anyway? It was an exercise to expose patterns of decision making so both sides could understand how each other thinks under known variables. That’s all it was. How could US technology possibly be exposed, in that?

LATEST: A 95-year old (NZ CITIZEN) and WAR VETERAN was allegedly stabbed in the head by his neighbour in his own house last night.

Albert Chant is recovering in Auckland City Hospital this morning after surgery.

Court documents show his neighbour, Jacob Komene, 20, is due to appear in court this morning on charges relating to the alleged stabbing.

Perhaps Komene should be sent to war in Afghanistan for 6 years as punishment.
I would vote for that.

graham the Gweens are handicapped not just morally but also mentally: i.e. they’re thick.

They constantly pick issues where as time goes by they’re proven wrong, again and again and again. e.g. AGW – wrong. Peak Oil – wrong. Fracking – wrong.

You name it, they’re wrong.

The only reason they survive is there’s a section in the population who’s even dumber than they are. Personally I don’t think it’s any coincidence that as the education system has been dumbed down (by the lefties) the far left vote has been growing and guess what – most of the far left voters are young: i.e. the people recently graduated from the dumbed down system.

Tragic isn’t it. Also evil, but mostly tragic.

Collins ‘not satisfied’ with ACC

ACC minister Judith Collins has told an employers group that ACC needs to rebuild public trust and had fallen short in protecting privacy after a realm of controversies and complaints about it.

MS Collins also implied ACC had gone too far in deciding cases were entitled to compensation, saying while it should not be seen as a “soft touch” it should follow a fair process.

“We would like to see a renewed focus in ACC towards a rebalance of the broader responsibilities it has to all New Zealanders. It must ensure entitlements are delivered transparently and fairly to those who need them.”

Well said Ms Collins and if you deliver on that ACC wil be a much better organization.
You will of course have to fire the top management as they are so entrenched with the adversarial attitude towards their funders and customers that they will never change. They will revert to norm the moment the heat goes off.
Fire them from Chairman down. He, after all has been in charge of this rotten ship and therefore should take responsibility for its bad attitudes.
Put Ms Pullar in charge of the customer function. Get that bit right and the rest will work.

One of Labours main goals at the beginning of their 9 year reign of destruction was to ramp up NZ’s economy and catch up with Aussie by using green technologies.

Given that labour had 9 years to achieve this goal I don’t think Shearer has the right to criticize.

Wait a second V2. Firstly, the privacy aspects having nothing whatsoever to do with the decision making over entitlement or otherwise. The two are totally separate things requiring totally separate solutions.

Secondly, it was National in its first term under Nick Smith who directed ACC to harden up on its entitlement processes in order to save money, so it’s pretty fucking rich for Collins to criticise it on those grounds now.

Thirdly, it’s unclear from the report on what Collins said as to whether Collins is saying ACC are too soft or too hard or even whether she’s saying something else. All that’s clear is she’s saying something needs to change. But what that something is, is not clear.

Fourthly, Pullar is a PR spin specialist who would I guarantee have no fucking idea of operations management at all so why would she be good at improving customer service operations? Her actions throughout this whole episode in stepping outside the process to engage her political mates in order to get herself special treatment above and beyond what any other customer gets, disqualifies her in my view from any special treatment at all. She should be put at the back of the queue and told to wait her turn. The amount of time and effort she has caused ACC to waste on her case is monumental. Fact is the bloody politicians caused this bullshit in the first place by getting involved. I mean, why the fuck did Smith write that letter? What a dumbo. He shot himself in the foot. Then the board chairman or deputy got involved as well. WTF? Pullar was a fucking customer FFS. Nothing more. Does this mean that every customer can write to the Board Chair and request their involvement and if not, why not? That’s what they’ve done. (And Board is a political appointment, so I lump them in with politicians in terms of responsibility for this shit).

The only fuckup ACC is responsible for and it is a massive one admittedly, is the sending of other people’s details to other customers. I mean der. That is a problem. But everything else in this saga has been caused by political (including board) interference and those are the people and those are the only people who need to suffer here. Including Pullar who started it all, by being sent to the back of the queue, where her claim is considered in due course, when ACC can get around to it.

Austrian village F—ing to vote on name change

The Austrian village of F—ing is to vote on a name change in an attempt to escape the constant ridicule and attention the name attracts the hamlet.

The 104 residents of the village will cast their votes later this week on whether to alter the name.

“People are now willing to discuss changes to the spelling of the name,” Franz Meindl, the village’s mayor, said in a television interview. “But first all F—ingers have to agree on whether want to change it or not.”

At least 13 £250 road signs bearing the village’s name have been stolen, and the sight of semi-naked women posing for photographs beside signs has become a common sight. One local business woman, exasperated with people stealing her sign has taken to adding another “g” in the hope it will deter thieves

At a glance David Shearer’s latest speech is very disappointing, even if I’ve only been faintly optimistic.

It’s titled “A country that works for you”, maybe he means something different but if the country does all our work we don’t need to do any?

His penultimate paragraph talks about “which of the 26 toilets they might use tomorrow”.

Then he closes with “But if you think we can do better, let’s get going.”

Really. I’d flush his speech writer down one of those dunnies. More on my Shearer despair.”

You know how the History and Discovery channels shows endless WWII docos? Sometimes I wonder whether they’d still be shown to us in the vast quantity they are, if they all looked as real as these photos, making us subconsciously realise that the 60 million people who died really were flesh and blood people just like us and not just black and white pictures which inure us to the reality of the real and actual horror.

Speaking of which, Shearer’s speech Pete, I quite agree. I tire of the politics of envy of which it simply drips. I wish Key would grow some balls and take on people like Shearer, grab him by the tie and shove him against the wall and ask the fucking little wimp just precisely how the fuck the country is supposed to prosper under his formula which appears to involve nothing productive or new whatsoever. I really, really, really wish that would really happen. Then I wish Key would end it by giving him a hard knee in the crotch and walk away, while Shearer just lay in a foetal position grabbing his balls like the little girl he really is. Hulun would have done that, if she were Key. And apparently, some people reckon she was the best PM NZ ever had, so I don’t know why Key doesn’t do it.

BTW, DPF, I get really sick of WordPress’s attempted corrections based on US spelling. Any chance of setting it for proper English, not the US version? e.g. fetal vs foetal.

I’d hoped Shearer really would make a difference for Labour but so far he doesn’t seem to be any better than Goff, and maybe even more under the control of whoever keeps coming up with their astonishingly bad strategies.

Clare Curran is steaming more than Josephine ever did, about the announcement by Kiwirail to try and sell Hillside Workshops. She’s right, it’s a sort of asset sale, but very diffeent to the government selling a whole SOE and using the proceeds for something else.

Kiwirail want’s to sell one of it’s own business units and use the proceeds for itself.

Curran should ask whoever re-nationalised Kiwirail what conditions it operates under regarding sales of part of it’s operation.

The Christchurch Press lied. Again.

Why is it that whenever the Press reports on the Anglican Church they either get the facts totally wrong, or they lie?

From the AC, Christchurch Diocese:

“No ratepayers’ money is being sought for building the Transitional Cathedral. The Diocese of Christchurch has approved $4 million from insurance monies. Final detailed costings are being undertaken at the moment, and the build budget will be strictly controlled. The Cathedral is not seeking and will not seek any funding from the Christchurch City Council [CCC] to pay for the building of the Transitional Cathedral.”

“Did you know you were making a mistake as you were walking down the aisle?” This was the question Jennifer Gauvain and Anne Milford asked 1000 women as research for their book How Not to Marry the Wrong Man.

A staggering 30 per cent of respondents said yes, they did know. But, they did it anyway.

Gauvain, a licensed clinical social worker, wrote about it in this blog for the Huffington Post. Perhaps unsurprisingly, given divorce rates in the US are around 40 per cent – versus about one third in New Zealand and Australia – it caused an uproar.
