If our educational institutions – from the schools to the universities – were as interested in a diversity of ideas as they are obsessed with racial diversity, students would at least gain experience in seeing the assumptions behind different visions and the role of logic and evidence in debating those differences.

Instead, a student can go all the way from primary school to a Ph.D. without encountering any fundamentally different vision of the world from that of the prevailing political correctness, as schools and universities of all places, and spanning the entirety of NZ, have far less freedom of speech than anywhere else in NZ.

Take homosexuality for example, students are taught ‘acceptance, diversity & equality’ about this matter – always, but dare just question homosexuality, and students are cautioned about ‘hate speech & intolerance’.

And here’s the proof that educational achievment in NZ is only going to get worse:

Bill English is going to give those very same people, those people who run, and who won’t tolerate a diversity of ideas in your schools – more funding tonight! 😎

This is of course quite true, however the seeds of totalitarianism thus sowed are accepted as the norm by the shuffling lemmings posturing as citizens of NZ. It is not questioned. It is not protested against. Nobody queries as to how or why it came about.

Why is that?

I’ll tell you.

We are living in one of the most politically corrupt ages that this country has ever experienced. Our education system is controlled by the left. Our media is controlled by the left. Our culture is controled by the left, and all of this is accepted by a population so meek and mild as to make Lemmings look like Tasmanian Tigers.

We bought this corruption on ourselves by being so accepting of the gradual incremental imposition of left wing cultural mores, and there are still thousands of people on this blog who although they object to the domination of the left, daily give sustenance to the very ideas that have allowed them to so dominate.

Many of them are National Party supporters.

Maybe, but to be consistent, you would need to combine other names on the list that are variations of one another, e.g. Jack and James both appear in the top 10. And there are likely to be Jacobs and Jakes further down the list.

It looks like the Greens are going to put up a mayoral candidate in the Dunedin election this year. If so this is a significant change from parties keeping a distance from local body politics.

Could be an interesting election. Excessive council debt and rate increases are major issues, Green credibility on financial matters could play a part.

Red the biggest single problem is the media. Most people can not be bothered to educate themselves and accept what they are told in the popular media.

That is not to say that everyone will agree. But most people have no exposure to other points of view. The problem is not just the left wing narrative, it is the absence of anything else. Even history is distorted.

A good example is the popular view of Hitler, who was not even remotely close to being the worst despot in recent history, but is held up as the ultimate example of evil.

Dime grabbed himself a Galaxy S4. Dime is more than impressed.

It came down to the HTC One or the Samsung. The HTC is stunning. Best looking phone on the market. It also has the appeal of not being an iphone or a galaxy. I thought id go with that. But after using both, the samsng is the shit 😀

Dime was considering windows phone. Spent some time with the nokia 920. what a piece of shit. its like a brick. I believe its because of the charging system it has. screw that. Dime upgrades every year so maybe next year Nokia will be able to tempt me.

To judge who is furthermost down the pit of ‘most evil’ is complicated and subjective.

Some killed more than Hitler— a lot more, but some might argue Hitler’s motives were worse (genocide) and he simply didn’t have enough opportunity to kill far more.

I think we all agree this category belongs to history’s monsters, amoral sociopaths whom left the world a worse place for their having been born.

Why is no one mentioning Genghis Khan, o.k. he was around a while ago but that shit was very very evil? Wiped out entire civilizations because he thought them inferior. Afghanistan used to be highly advanced country with massive and comprehensive irrigation, along came Genghis the shit head, killed everyone, the irrigation system grumbled to dust and the country never recovered, it’s still a shit heap even today.
The only reason he didn’t wipe out Europe is when he got to Austria his horse bucked him off and killed him. The army returned home and never set out gain.

As for Redbaiter’s outrage about the “lame shuffling directionless Key government”, I actually quite like the idea that English is heading in the direction of a budget surplus in 2014-15. Sure, he hasn’t cancelled welfare benefits with a single stroke of the pen, axed the Student Loan scheme, and instituted 100%pa interest charges on outstanding loans, but other than that he seems to have done a pretty fair job in challenging times.

As an employer of around 50 people, I am largely supportive of what the Government has done economically. To morph into a latter day Roger Douglas would have done New Zealand more harm than good against the background of a global economic downturn. Likewise Australia is now counting the cost of trying to artificially stimulate the economy by throwing out cash to all and sundry whilst taxing the mining sector out of Australia.

Why is it that both the ultra left and right wing fanatics that we see here all too often, feel the need for a Government that provides the country with a “direction”, or, as one of them yesterday put it, “a vision”?

In the 20s and 30s there were at least three nasty fellows (Stalin, Hitler and Mussolini) possessed of “vision and direction”. It was not a nice time,and did not “end” until the last of those was dead.

I try to give credit for honestly held views, even when history tells me that they are wrongly conceived, and thus full of shit.

But some of the drivel spouted here is really sickening, and the sooner those idiots come to that realisation the better they will be….. and their views will then gain at least some respect.

It would be great if this woman could be positively identified and named and shamed. It appears the problem was unforeseen and certainly not the disabled woman’s fault that Air NZ did not have narrow wheelchair available.

So, the ACLU lobby group wants the gay characters in the TV show Modern Family to get married. They have started on online petition in order to pressure the writers of the show into making it happen. They and GLAAD bemoan the fact that many shows that feature gay characters have been cancelled, so the push has to be kept up to show “diversity”.

The ACLU wants to see a Modern Family wedding.

The nonprofit group on Wednesday launched ModernFamilyWedding.com, a petition letting producers of the ABC comedy know that Americans will tune in to see Mitch (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cam (Eric Stonestreet) tie the knot.

“We’re doing this not just because we love Modern Family, but because we are at a watershed moment when the Supreme Court is considering two cases regarding the freedom to marry; when states are passing marriage equality laws with increasing frequency; and a majority of Americans support marriage equality,” the wedding-themed invitation reads. “And the freedom to marry is being advanced in American living rooms as much as in court rooms.”

The ACLU’s move comes after a particularly rough week for LGBT characters on TV. Following a 2012-13 broadcast season that featured a record number of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender characters, this past week’s wave of cancellations — which included The New Normal, Smash, Go On as well as Southland and Happy Endings — will drastically change those results.

“The sheer number of characters who will no longer be on the air means diversity on television is once again at risk,” GLAAD national spokesman Wilson Cruz told The Hollywood Reporter following the cancellations. “Following a season with the highest recorded number of LGBT characters, these cancellations mean networks have to make a concerted effort to ensure the 2013-2014 season truly reflects the diversity of their audience. With inclusive programs like Modern Family and Glee continuing to lead the ratings and collect praise from critics, it’s in a network’s best interest.”
